Mixed feelings about Barcade. It's in my regular rotation and I missed it dearly during COVID -- but in the same breath, it's over crowded, overpriced, and the bartenders are usually assholes. The best time to come is in the afternoon, early -- maybe right at 5pm. There is no point in coming if you see a sea of heads once you walk down the ramp. (Even if you're looking to just use the restroom, the lines will be crazy long anyway.) This place is also kind of dirty all the time...lmao. Keep in mind, unlike the other Barcade, this one doesn't have it's liquor license. But the beer selection is updated a decent amount. The menus are easy to read and you can always find some high percentage pints. The games are great, of course. They're a decent amount, but in my 4/5 years of going here, there hasn't been any new additions. While the other location has had new games come in here and there. I get that it's small but hmmm... Inside it's a little dark but that the nature of arcades. They have a nice draft menu as well as wine and other drinks. If you run up an appetite they have a great spread of food. I did not have any but it looks legit. There are 3 pinballs in the back. All machine are in good or newer condition. Nothing worse than a pinball machine that isn't maintained well. 3 tokens for each pinball game. Not a bad deal. The rest of the games are 1 or two tokens. I really like this place. It's adult fun with memories of your childhood. I love coming here with friends cause its a fun way to spend a Friday or Saturday night. The games themselves are retro, so definitely not claw machines or anything of that. Got to relive my youth here. They carry many of the arcade games I played with my friends growing up. I came on a Saturday evening when there were dozens others patrons inside so there was a wait to get service. The place is rectangular in shape and fairly narrow so you'll be bumping into people the whole night. I ordered one of their custom cocktails called the St Marks Iced Tea which was nice and strong. They were definitely generous with their pours! Stayed for about an hour playing The Simpson's, Ninja Turtles, and X-Men arcades. I felt like my hands were on the verge of getting arthritis after hammering all the buttons but it was worth it. You can bring your own quarters or exchange your dollar bills for custom tokens. Before my first visit to Barcade, I imagined the games to be like skee-ball, air hockey, and pop-a-shot. To my disappointment, it turned out to be just old-school video games. Obviously, this is not inherently a bad thing; it's just not MY thing. As for the execution of the drink-and-game concept, Barcade does a moderate job. The space itself is long and narrow, with games lined up against the walls, which means most gamers are standing with their backs facing toward the center of the bar where others are walking or standing. As a result, there are a lot of inadvertent collisions and consequent spilling of drinks. Speaking of, the bar serves beer, wine, and sake, as well as standard bar food like cheese fries and mac and cheese. This is not a good place to go if you're looking to chat with friends; there is little to no place to idle and most of the games are not designed for groups. A pleasant exception is the 4-player Pac-Man game, which my friends and I spent a good amount of money on because it was so fun. The game did eat up a few of our quarters, but what arcade game doesn't from time to time? All in all, I think this is a fun place to visit either solo or with 1-2 friends who enjoy games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. read more

I think I've been to ALL of the barcodes including the one in Jersey City. I'm a long time fan of vintage arcade games and this location is a fix for gamers and pin ballers alike. All the locations vary in their options of games and because this one is near NYU it can get packed with Tinder dates and group parties reserving the tables in the back but is still fun to go to. Bar staff is always attentive as much as possible depending on the ebb and flow of the people waiting to be served. Craft brews are readily available and why not have a hop back (their version of a pickle back) while you're at it? TBH I love the JC one the most because it's just bigger and there are more pin ball machines but Barcade is barcade. I'll go to one no matter where I happen to be. I knew Barcade existed as a concept but I actually have never been to one! A friend was back in town for a few weeks and hosted a get-together at Barcade. I wasn't drinking that night, so I stuck with Coke. I know you're not going to a place called BARcade to drink sodas, but man, these sodas were flat. I split an order of the poutine with a friend and it was just OK. I think we regretted it a bit because it was SO oily. It also definitely did not taste like poutine. Bar staff were friendly. I didn't end up playing any games, but other members of the party did. They ID at the entrance, as you cannot enter if you're not over 21. So make sure you bring your photo ID with you! read more

Public Service Announcement: Not all Barcades are created equal! Tough break but that's how it's rolling at this Barcade spot in the city that never sleeps. A quick trip here two weekends ago and three stars later, we have this review. Only a week prior to this Barcade visit I had stumbled upon the Philly location and loved the set up, beer, game selection, and just the overall feel of the place. This spot didn't really play out the same way. It's a smaller Barcade with space coming at a premium. They do the best they can placing arcade games all along the side when you first enter. Game choice was decent, though I've seen better. A few were actually out of order and the Mrs. Pacman joystick couldn't keep up with the moves needed to deter some ghosts. Beyond the gaming, the beer choices were definitely above par with plenty of borough brews being represented. For that aspect I'd go almost with a five star on drink factor. Alas, the "Bar" is only have the name. Overall, this Barcade might not make the high scores, but it can do the trick in a jam if you're looking to fill your arcade addiction. Got some time though? I remember when I was walking around bar hopping I ran into this gem. My fiancé was so excited to see all the video games machines and inside a bar!!! This was a really fun night the concept is very dope. The place is very chill and had fast service. They are well know for having a great beer selection. The lights are very dimmed which I like because it's one of the places you can come in grab a seat or head to the bar games. The amount of beer and bar games they have it's amazing is what really makes this place stands out. The staff also are very sweet and working hard. Barcade has hit all of those points with flying colors. The idea of a pub and an arcade in one might sound childish, but this is anything but that with the age minimum and their game selection (which is both diverse and awesome). I came here after my birthday but the entrance security guard noticed and wished me a happy birthday, something most people in the city ignored, it totally lifted my spirits up for the night :) The place is loaded with many many different craft beers on tap- and they all sound delicious! Barcade represents a guy's man cave heaven, where there's booze and classic old school video games. The concept is awesome and it really brings back a lot of childhood memories like PAC Man, Mortal Combat, Donkey Kong and more. Games are cheap and are mostly 25 cents each. They surprisingly have a great selection of craft beers on tap (roughly around 20 different kinds). This place is nothing fancy, but definitely a place worth to visit at least once. Another thing that I found very interesting about the place is that their main energy source is run by wind power. Way to go Eco-friendly! FYI: there's a sign on the wall that says they'll charge you a 20% gratuity rate if you keep your tab open and leave it at the bar overnight. So remember to close out your tab. read more

We came here after trying out a nearby tea place. Nobody cards and myself, boyfriend, his dad and sister, all came to try out a few games. It's easy enough, snag some tokens, stick in the game and go. There's a wide variety of games to play. Personally I prefer the classic frogger, but bae introduced me to the crazy taxi driving game which was a delight as well. We then all played 4 player PAC Man which was a blast from the past.
