I would leave zero stars if I could. Never going here again. Staff is very unprofessional. Food and drink are subpar at best. They are discriminatory to the LGBT community. A few LGBT friends were being harassed by bigots and stood up for themselves and staff sided with the bigots. After that it seemed like they were looking for a reason to kick them out while the harasser got to carry on with their evening even though they caused the whole problem. Ended up kicking them out for absolutely no reason and cussing them out as they left, using disgusting slurs among other words. Owners should be embarrassed. read more

BE WARNED this location is incredibly strict on having a non-expired drivers license. My drivers license expired in December 2021 (it's June 2022). Despite showing a valid health insurance, dental insurance, multiple valid credit cards, and Global Entry card, the manager refused to let me in to a team event I was leading - he cited I needed a valid drivers license as the reason but failed to elaborate on why the other options didn't work. The funniest part is they did not check the IDs of my team members, only mine (I'm in my 30s). Is this some strange form of discrimination? Never have I seen such a staunch supporter of the DMV's longevity. I recommend being prepared or bringing your business to another establishment. read more

Barcade has a nice concept, for sure a cool twist on the average bar. This a good place to go in groups. I didn't drink so I cant speak on the drinks but they seem to serve the average beers, wines and cocktails. The place itself looks a little too dirty and run down. Also its very dark inside. I liked it surprisingly more than I thought I would. I didn't grow up hanging out at arcades. Bowling alleys and karaokes were more my jam. Even being a '90s kid, old school video games are lost on me. So when it was suggested as a spot for date night in Astor Place, I thought "Okay, man-child." I am a pinball enthusiast, with cool themed ones here. Pacman is also awesome. Mortal Kombat, X-Men, and Street Fighter all turned out to be pretty straightforward. Chun-Li for the win, but I still found myself biting my tongue whilst a sore loser most of the night. Terminator is especially hard after a long workweek. And the graphics on some of these are soo pixelated, it's almost comical and cute. Large beer selection and a menu of bar foods. They were out of Abita Purple Haze, but I got the Tropic Cool and it was mighty tasty in a goblet. Crowd was chill and everyone was enjoying themselves, with many hanging at the bar and more at the communal tables. Be ready to make friends with plenty of random NYU kids. While you go off to play, you'll need total strangers to watch your stuff. read more

I really wanted to leave this an awesome review, but I just can't due to the bartender. She is such a jerk and arcade dictator. Honestly they are lucky I don't force them to give me my money back. Pre covid this happened before, but I thought it was an off night, now I just know this is how it is. Let's start with the good and why I wish I could leave a five star. The games are an absolute blast and they have so many awesome classics you can play. The prices are so fair it's great! I couldn't wait for them to reopen so I could take my gf to show her! Everyone there is just having a great time. So why am I so salty? Because dictator girl, that's why. So I pay money to get tokens. No one told me they were closing in 45 minutes. Guess that's on me, but would have been nice. So we are playing our game and dictator girl comes up behind us rudely and is like "I'm shutting them down in 10 minutes." It's 1149 at the time by the way. So that's annoying but okay, we can finish the stage and be done. I kid you not, 3 minutes later she walks up, rips the plug out and says "sorry guys, times up". That is ridiculous as it was not "times up" it hadn't been 10 minutes and it was only 11:52. So now you can't use up your tokens and you have to leave. Why is that so annoying? Because the principal of it. What really happened was she wasn't able to sell anymore alcohol, wasn't getting tips, so she wanted to start closing early since the money dried up. That just makes me so mad. I'll stick with the other bar style arcade that doesn't have horrible service. I love st marks so much, but we need a better place. read more

I was excited to finally go to Barcade, but this location left me disappointed. It was packed (it was Saturday, so I understand), the bathrooms were gross, the bartender looked miserable and wasn't friendly at all, and it was just not my scene. However, I did enjoy the Super Mario machine they had! It brought back fond memories. I'll try the brooklyn location next time. I've heard good reviews there. read more

Dark, dingy, and loud. That's what you get at Barcade. Went with a group of fifteen after a holiday party on a Monday at 9pm. Barcade is an arcade with a bar - on tap is a wide selection of beers and wines, with standard NYC pricing ($9 bucks for beer, ~$12-15 for wines). Barcade is filled with retro games such as crazy taxi, pacman, street fighter etc. Only quarters are accepted here, and each game costs about 25 cents to 50 cents depending on the game itself. Pretty pricey imo. 5 stars if you're into that sort of vibe, personally, I'd find better spots to hang out as its also very loud and hard to have a decent conversation inside. read more

I love all of the Barcades. I'm not very good at playing arcade games so for all of you that were in the establishment while I was there I am sorry if I bursted your ear drums while I exclaimed every time I died. Going to barcade is a great time I actually have gone on some first dates here. I personally recommend going to Barcade for a first date because you can easily break the ice by playing some games and being goofy. Better they know what type of person you are now rather than later. This location though, is narrow so it feels very packed. Just as a warning ! But besides hat barcade is good times and good drinks. Also note to everyone Sheeva is an amazing character on mortal combat. I kicked some serious butt using her. Not feeling this location. St Marks Place version of hipsterama. Smaller selection of games, most I didn't like, and only $1 off happy hour beers. When are bars going to understand that just taking off a buck on $7-$10 beers is not really too happy. Seems like there is a better selection of games at the other locations, at least it does to me. Small menu of food and bar snacks. Sliders, wings, tots. Cheap. Definitely the worst of the Barcade locations I have been to. Meh. Great craft beer selection though with 24 on tap. read more

I had came in one time on a random day with a guy friend just to tour the city. It was the start of discovering that I loved to walk around and explore. (Even more after I moved to California) I've never been to a barcade so he told me that I had to at least check it out as we were in the neighborhood and there was one right down the street from where we were wandering. He was right. It was a lot of fun, though we walked in on a rather random time of the day, the afternoon when it was more of a place to drink and have fun. So many old school games! I was banned from them when I was younger so this was very exciting experience for me! We had fun playing Donkey Kong - him better than I and also had a rather amusing time trying to figure out the Michael Jackson game. Super cool place to visit for Happy Hour. It's a change from the typical bar scene of standing and sitting around doing nothing. There are a bunch of classic arcade games to play to make you feel like a kid again, compete with friends, and enjoy your time while drinking. There are games for everyone's taste: racing, fighting, Pacman, pinball, shooting, and dancing. The Happy Hour specials are $2 off drafts, which is nice and the arcade games are typically only 1 or 2 tokens to play. All the game machines are taken care of so they're not covered in drinks or broken. Definitely need to check this place out! read more

The newest Barcade is open in New York City and the official first day was October 9, 2014. I got the chance to check out the place last night and it is really official. The other Barcades have good games, but to me there are some Great games here. A fighting game paradise if you ask me. I played a lot of these games on emulator over the years but this is what I missed: The REAL FEELING OF PLAYING IN THE ARCADE again. The stronger focus on this location is the 90's. They have game like Donkey Kong, Die Hard Arcade, KOF (KING OF FIGHTERS 95), Metal Slug, Mortal Kombat 2, Rampage World Edition, Street Fighter 1 (original), Art of Fighting, Tekken 3, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, Killer Instinct, and Marvel Super Heroes. Strong roster of games if you really like the fight scene. I will be heading here often, I would think I didn't have that much of a reason to go to St. Marks area anymore. So Manhattan gets a second Barcade location, how about that. Drinking Beer and playing video games seem to go together. This location has bar food, did not try any though. It does not offer hard liquor though, but food is probably just like the location on 24th street in variety. A couple of friends and I came here after dinner because we didn't want to go home so early and wanted to kill time. This was my 3rd or 4th time going to the Barcade and each time we go, we never really leave disappointed. What makes the Barcade unique is that the price to play the classic arcade games don't rise with the rate of inflation. It's still only one quarter to play these 1980s-1990s classic arcade games. There are a variety of games to choose from; ranging from Mortal Combat to Pacman. A majority of these are fighting games and there are a handful of sports and racing games included as well. I tried the draft beers here twice (don't remember which ones) and being a person who catches the Asian flush and being a weak drinker, I thought that these beers were a bit stronger than your average beer. Not bad though. I've tried the potato skins with bacon over at the 24th street location and it wasn't bad. The 24th street location is also bigger. Overall, vibe, ambience and service are all on point. Would I return? Sure. read more

I'm not much of a gamer, it makes me too anxious and I hate losing. But I do enjoy a trip to Barcade once in awhile. However, I do enjoy it more with people who like gaming and nothing can give me the same satisfaction that beating my beau at Mortal Kombat can. But revenge is a dish best served cold. And revenge is what he sought (and found). As I wallowed my sore loser sorrows in my beer. Beer is Barcade's "thing" here (and at other locations I've been) so they offer you an extensive craftbeer menu which I appreciate because I don't know much about beer besides my favorite line: "that tastes too hoppy!" $7-8 for a beer. They now use token instead of quarters... like, why? My favorite game? Terminator. I'm good at shooting games... correction: I like shooting games. Overall this place is A-OK. Nice place to kill some time while, in my case, getting killed at these games. Or it can serve as the first stop on a date (if it's a good one). Came here late at night after dinner with some friends. Honestly, really love this place. Playing crazy taxi is so much fun. Also the bartender Carla, is a gem. She's so nice and treats everyone so well. I would literally come back just for her. On top of that, they had a drink special - pastrami beer and a shot of sake for $8. What a steal. The pastrami beer is very interesting though. Tastes like pickles if that's your cup of tea. They also had a regular beer and a shot for $10. That was way more up my alley and def still reasonable. Other beers (no shots) were going for $7 to $10. Not bad for not happy hour prices. Only bad thing about this place is that to play the games you need tokens. Didn't have any beers, but just went in for the games. I expected it to be bigger I guess? I've been to the one in Jersey City, and that place is about two and a half times bigger than this one. I went here for the beer. I stayed for the games. Barcade in beer circles has a reputation for having excellent beers on tap and I found that to be true at this St. Mark's location. There were many a good beer on tap here and they ranged in styles, which is key for a beer-obsessed individual like myself that thrives off of variety. Central Waters Bourbon Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout and Newburgh Brewing's Hoptron smoked gose were two of the highlights/standouts on the list during my visit that, if representative of what the beer list is like all the time, would give me cause to dip in anytime I'm in the neighborhood. As for the crowd and vibe, it was far less of a shitshow than I'd expect from a place that surely attracts its share of youngsters from NYU looking to get wasted and play video games. Everyone was well-behaved and in more of a chill mode than a let's-drink-till-we-yak mode. As one who is mostly indifferent to video games, I'll say that you'll still find yourself playing the games here. First off, they're cheaper now than they were 20 years ago (Barcade has somehow made inflation its bitch) and there are plenty of games here that will make you nostalgic for your carefree youth. Many of my favorite childhood games like Ms. Pac Man, Street Fighters, Donkey Kong, Mortal Combat, and Super Mario Brothers are all here! I could not be more happy to play these games again and be able to drink beer at the same time, now that I am able to! They are old school arcade machines, so bring quarters or bring singles for the change machine! Beer selections here are pretty good, there are about 24 different beers on tap. I was fortunate to be able to try seasonal brews all at once. I had a summer ale then an autumn pumpkin ale right after. It seems like the beers were geared toward hoppy ales like single and double IPAs. The big draw of barcade is all of the arcade games. Always hear about this and my ex used to come here all the time without me. Went on my 21st birthday with some friends and it was pretty fun. Not the best arcade games I've seen or played but some were pretty nice. There are about 20+ games and a few tables and chairs since they offer simple food and drinks. Alright prices and starts getting busier after 7pm. Restrooms and the coin machine are at the back of barcade. They talk $1, $5, $10, and $20. 25cent per barcade coin. All machines are 1 or 2 tokens for each game and some machines have 1 token to continue the game. You could spend a good hour in there but I don't think I'd spend more than an hour playing. So years ago (at least close to like 5-7 years ago) I went to a friend's birthday party at Barcade in Williamsburg - this is also known as being the "original" one. It was all sorts of awesomeness - it's in a warehouse/parking garage type of building and was full of fantastic, nostalgia-inducing arcade video games, a pool table, cool people and even cooler beers. Fast forward to 2016, now there are plenty of Barcades and lots of people who aren't into video games are learning about what they've been missing out on. I've been into video games my whole life - but even more do now that my fiance is a (cool) nerd who's really into the old-school games of yore. I'm insanely into craft beers so Barcade is really the marriage of our passions into one awesome place. The problem lies in the fact that it always feels very crowded in here unless it's early or pre-happy hour. But still, Barcade is generally a really fun way to begin your night. The food here is even pretty damn awesome. There is a certain, "if you've been to one Barcade, you've seen em' all" vibe - but my personal faves are their Chelsea location and the original one in Williamsburg. The clientele here is completely different from other locations - it feels like people come in here just to stand around and be seen in St. Mark's place. I wouldn't personally go to a Barcade if it's not my thing just so that I can stand around and seem cool. But I came here last with some friends on Saturday night and that's pretty much what was up. If we were here for more than 15 minutes I'd be surprised. But right after this we hopped over to Video Games New York (open until midnight, yowza!) and all was right with the world :). read more

This is exactly what the name says it is, a bar with a load of classic arcades. Mario brothers, tekken 3, bust a move, virtua fighter, metal slug, street fighter, pac man , and many more including a michael jackson game where you go running around saving little children (not even kidding) At $.25 a game, you can sure play a lot with 20 dollars in change. I have to say I wish they had more recent arcade games because I sure suck at the classics. But that's more of a personal problem.
