Went on a Thursday with a 9:45 reservation and did not get seated until 10. Do with that what you wish. Regardless the hostess was very nice! Barcelona was okay but has room for improvement. I checked out the menu and other Yelp reviews before visiting. Many of the reviews mentioned the loud music, tightly packed tables, and lukewarm food, which is exactly what I experienced. I don't want to feel like I'm in a club, watch servers barely squeak by my table, or eat room temp food. We visited on Sunday night for a 6 PM reservation. The place was busy but not full, and got a little busier by the time we left around 7:15 PM. There was a small line at the host stand, but people were quickly seated. The host initially took us to a two-top next to a four-top that had a baby in a high chair and some kids books/toys nudging into our table space. We politely asked for a different table, which the host accommodated, but we shouldn't have to ask; they should give guests more space proactively. Our waiter was not particularly friendly or helpful. He asked us about allergies, but did not offer to explain the menu, make recommendations, or anything else. I overheard the waiter at the table next to us telling his table all about the menu and warning them to order any large dishes early, because they can take up to 45 minutes to prepare. We got no such advice; thankfully, we didn't plan to get any large dishes. I do appreciate that the food pacing was pretty good, all the dishes came out quickly and were cleared quickly, and our waiter offered us another piece of bread later (for a dish that only came with one piece and should have come with two...). We got a pitcher of red sangria ($38) which was 4 glasses worth. The sangria tasted fine but was very generic; nothing special, not much fruit, lots of ice. The server who poured it for us did it in a very noisy, distracting way -- shaking it a lot to get the ice to settle, struggling to balance the amount of ice in each glass, spilling some ice on the floor. It was unpleasant and almost comical. We tried eight different tapas dishes: Eggplant Caponata ($7.5), Rainbow Carrots ($8.5), Whipped Sheep's Cheese ($8.5), Cauliflower ($9.5), Grilled Chicken Thigh ($10.5), Bacon-Wrapped Dates ($8.5), Jamon and Manchego Croquetas ($7.5, four pieces), and Lamb Merguez ($10.5). Everything was pretty good. The best dishes were the Sheep's Cheese and Chicken Thigh. The cheese was a nice portion and worked well with the honey. It only came with one piece of bread and should have come with two. Also, although the bread had grill marks on it, it was not warm at all, barely room temperature. The chicken was excellent all around -- tender, salty, spicy, with a very nice green sauce. All the other dishes were ok but had room to improve. The croquetas -- which I love in any form -- had a nice, crunchy exterior and a soft interior that reminded me of mashed potatoes. I wouldn't say they tasted particularly like jamon and manchego, though. The bacon-wrapped dates -- also a favorite dish -- were fine if a bit sweet; the blue cheese on the plate cut this a bit, but I wanted more flavor from the bacon, which was lost against the sweetness of the date. The carrots looked pretty but had different levels of doneness -- some softer or harder than others -- and I wanted more flavor from the sauce. The lamb merguez came with fava hummus and both tasted bland. The eggplant did not have a uniform heat level -- some pieces hot, some room temp -- and I disliked the sauce, which reminded me of sweet BBQ sauce in a negative way. The cauliflower was underwhelming; the sauce needed to be punchier and the dish needed another ingredient, like a few crunchy nuts. I would like to see the restaurant turn down the music, give diners more space, and tweak many of the dishes. It was an okay meal but I wouldn't return. read more

My experience here was so unfortunate it's funny. D.C has some excellent restaurants so it's shocking this wine bar can stay competitive in this environment. First, a friend made a reservation at least a week in advance for a table of three. We all got there on time, if not a few minutes early. The hostess then told us there was not a table ready for us, and worse, was unable to give us a time estimate on when a table would open up because "we do not time our tables." So what is the point of making a reservation? Hilariously he said we can wait for a table outside instead, but they Won't be turning on the heaters. Happy to know they want us cold and hungry. We ended up waiting by the bar area, which was uncomfortably packed, for a drink while a table opened up. The bartender there was nice and respectful! Eventually, after waiting for some time we got a table inside. It was quite loud in the main room. There were three separate birthday parties. We were glad to start ordering. We ordered the oyster mushrooms, patatas bravas, chicken thighs, seafood paella, and the pork belly. The pork belly had to be comped because they forgot about it until I reminded them over an hour into the dinner. To note, all of the food was lukewarm/cold with the exception of the pork belly because they forgot about it and it was prepared late. Even the paella, which is served on a cast iron, so it has the optics of being piping hot, was actually just warm. The rice felt a little hard. The mushrooms had too much breading in each bite. I enjoyed the green sauce in the chicken. A runner asked if we wanted complimentary bread with our green sauce, which we responded positively towards. But soon after another runner picked up the plate with the sauce and swooped it away. Then the first runner came back with the bread right after, noticeably confused by the lack of sauce. Went there last night for my birthday! Although the overall experience was good, there are reasons why I gave it 4 stars: Location: We visited the Logan circle location and parked in the garage. Went spontaneously with my wife for memorial day and were lucky to grab a small barstool table. Obviously it was busy so it was pretty loud in there but that's just the trade off of eating out sometimes! We got a pitcher of the red sangria which was quite freaking yummy. For food, we got the chicken thigh (incredible, tender and smoky meat with a nice aji verde sauce) and broccolini (very good, stalks were a little tough but did not regret trying as it came with a yummy mustard-y dill-y sauce that I can't remember the name of). We also got the cabra romero cheese (best cheese ive ever had probably. creamy and herby with a goat's milk aftertaste.) and duck prosciutto (stupid good, we're both big fans of duck). This place is a lot of fun, but also a lot of chaos. Tread carefully! We arrived at 8:46 for an 8:45 reservation - Knowing that this place is historically known for giving away your table, we called an uber to get here. That's a bit on us. But, we weren't seated until close to 9:30, and we weren't alone there. Not on us... My favorite part of the evening, and the thing that I recommend the most, is the white wine sangria. It's delicious, fruity and refreshing. My second favorite part is the charcuterie board, with a perfect spread to share that satisfies all taste buds. I loved the olives and the eggplant spread the most. The patatas bravas are noteworthy, too. We ordered ~14 tapas for four people, and ended up with only 10 total. As things failed to come out, we asked to simply cancel them. I'd recommend 2-3 per person overall. The place is huge, and the waiters are definitely doing their best, but I'd recommend a few more runners or servers to avoid some of the bumping, the rushing, or forgetfulness. Got the fried oyster mushrooms and the seafood paella with a glass of white wine recommended to us by our server. The fried oyster mushrooms were ok, but nothing special. It was a bit too greasy to enjoy, especially because for a tapas it was quite a large portion for two. The creamy sauce underneath was pretty good with it though. The paella was a bit disappointing, especially for having to wait 30+ mins for it. It was just very salty and honestly kind of a small portion for two. The first dish was too large and this one was too small! We also got the chocolate cake for dessert and my husband really liked that but it was very sweet and a bit too much for my liking. It was fun to check out but i'm not sure i'll be going back as there are many other restaurants in DC with better food. Lastly, they use every last possible freaking space for table and chairs making navigating to go to the bathroom (and without hitting someone with your purse) neigh impossible and you're constantly having to move your chair for staff to walk through. Honestly I think we only had a good experience because we sat outside (in the rain). We could hear the crowd inside whenever the door opened and wouldn't have gone into that nightmare for all the world. Owners - please consider upkeep of your furniture, lowering the volume of the music so it's not a screaming match at a 4 top just to be heard, and making more space to move (especially when staff are just standing and looking around but in your way). We loved the pairing of the cheeses with the ham. - Large plate: paella mariscos (half) (1/5): The rice was so salty is was basically inedible for both of us. Overall (2/5): We visited Barcelona back September 2024. While the food was very good (except for the paella being disappointingly salty) overall we can't give Barcelona a recommendation due to the poor and unwelcoming service. We were seated earlier than other patrons but we were the last to actually place our order because the server never came over or looked our way even after we tried flagging them. The servers also rarely checked up on us and we had to flag the servers down from across the room several times. There was also an issue from our bill where we were charged for an item we didn't order. Thankfully a server we flagged over was nice and helped us get that fixed. This spoiled an otherwise pleasant dinner and atmosphere, and we probably would give this place a second thought in the future because of that. read more

My favorite favorite spot in all of DC! Must try's are the pickled beets, potato tortilla, patatas brava, prawns, bacon wrapped dates, and of course the paellas! Their sangrias are always a hit also! Go first thing if you can to enjoy the outdoor seating, and be sure to make a reservation because they're a popular spot! Pro tip: Mondays are half priced wine bottles! read more

One of the most popular spots in DC for a reason. Barcelona does get busy and crowded but honestly, the food and atmosphere are unlike any in the area. It's great for getting together with friends- whether at their really great happy hour or over their tapas for dinner. Everything on the menu is amazing- standouts include the octopus and large paella for me. The drinks are also really great too, we always enjoyed their espresso martinis! Just be prepared to wait if you don't have a reservation as this place does get packed. Good thing you can wait at the bar or take a nice walk in the happening neighborhood. 100% recommend! read more

Always a good time and good vibes at Barcelona! My friend and I sat at the bar and they've added a charcuterie board! We usually get the pick three with jamon and two cheeses but this was so much better! The board was huge and we couldn't even finish it. Amazing option for happy hour bites. read more

Amazing! I really enjoyed this restaurant. A friend and I came here for an early dinner at 6pm, and it was already packed! We ate in the semi-indoor/outdoor area--definitely on the loud/lively side. I ate the Jamon & Manchego Croquetas, patatas bravas, and Steak Paillard. The patatas bravas were by far my favorite--so flavorful with the most delicious sauce. They made good leftovers too. I also really enjoyed the croquettas--super savory. I was least impressed with the Steak Paillard. It was pretty well done, and I prefer my meat on the rarer side; they never asked me how I wanted it cooked, in all fairness. Service was decent, but you could definitely tell the waiter was busy with the dinner rush. Great spot overall--I would come back! read more

I had the BEST time at Barcelona Wine Bar! The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and every single person we interacted with was incredibly kind. The whole staff made us feel so taken care of, but our waiter Tamari deserves a special shoutout, he was phenomenal. Tamari was so attentive, patient, and genuinely fun to talk to. He gave great recommendations, checked on us at the perfect times, and made the experience feel personal. You can tell he really cares about giving guests a great night. read more

Solid food. Packed on a Friday night. Was able to easily get a reservation and ordered food at 11pm which in itself is amazing. Great for sharing. Would definitely dine here again! Brussels Sprouts: 10/10. Delicious Bacon wrapped dates: 7/10. A little sweet. Bacon could have been cooked longer. Flank Steak: 8/10. Good but nothing special. Albondigas: 9/10. Yummy! read more
