Inside eating area by the bar
    Martin F.

This is a food truck that sells barbecue situated next to a historic tavern. You buy your food at the food truck and if you want to eat inside you can do that and they'll text you when your food is ready to pick up at the truck. I went for the sandwich and I thought it was tasty and for my appetite it was plenty. He has a larger serving available if you're really hungry. His estimate was it's about a third a pound of meat on the smaller sandwich. The meat was tender and not overly dry. He has one barbecue sauce that'll put on it if you request. With pickles and onions. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done. Sitting inside the bar was okay as far as I can tell the contrary to the county rule see allow smoking inside. Fortunately there wasn't anyone there that was smoking while we were there. It would have made it unpleasant for us as we're both very sensitive to cigarette smoke. I got a soda from the bar and it was less than two bucks. That's amazing. Outside of the smoking thing, I think the bar would be a fun place to go to listen to music at times. They have a couple of venues, one inside the bar and a larger performance space outside the bar. May I have a calendar performance they bring in on a regular basis but this is an review about the bars it's a review about the barbecue. He also sells meat to go. I think he's asking $30 a pound which is probably beyond my taste. Definitely worth going by and giving him a try.

Very kind and polite service, very mindful. Food was absolutely delicious! Loved the pulled pork, the brisket was not as moist AS I PREFER. I know everyone has their preference on brisket, but it was still very tender and delicious. Bbq sauce was amazing! Ultimately, HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Thank you! It is a food truck outside of a local bar, not exactly kid friendly but we ate in the car and enjoyed it just as much. Also not a lot of drink options so b.y.o.b unless you want to drink at the bar.

Great food, served quickly, tons of seating in the bar or outside. Brisket sandwich and seasoned tots were damn good.

We arrived just as they opened. There was no one to greet us for the first few minutes. Finally, someone came out from the back to let us know that they were busy, which sounded strange since they had just opened, but when they explained about the air show it made sense. The music is loud but that's expected. It is a bar after all...that serves barbecue. We ordered at the bar and sat down. BWE and I shared the Chuckwagon Classic Plate, and we added 1/3 lb of brisket. My son had the same Classic Plate. We got the beans and fries as our sides. When our food was brought to us, the server didn't give us utensils. We had to ask her for them. The portions seemed small. The brisket was not hot. It was room temperature. The fries and beans were just okay. We were underwhelmed. This is Texas. Our expectations were high but we were disappointed. It could be that the order from the air show overwhelmed them and left them little strength to give attention to our order so I'll give them a little grace and give them two stars instead of one. We won't be back.

Noticed upon entrance, a humongous outdoor space connected to both restaurants which included plenty of outdoor seating tables and a stage. Excellent service! Our server was friendly and checked on us frequently. Complimentary tortilla chips with a special seasoning and queso were brought to the table . I liked the seasoning. There's also a small complimentary condiment and BBQ sauce bar- which included onions, pickles, jalapeños, regular and spicy BBQ sauce. Pickles were nice and appeared home made. I dipped my meats in combos of both sauces, I enjoyed them both. We all ordered the two meat combos $18 with your choice of two sides and served with Texas toast. I ordered the brisket and pulled pork. Both were excellent! The brisket had a nice tiny fatty edge and was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The pulled pork was deelish. Good portion size too. I enjoyed the beans, but the coleslaw not so much. The slaw was bland and had no flavor. Others at my table ordered the tater tots, which were highly seasoned and had a nice crunch. We were so full, had some leftovers for the next day. Great BBQ, great service!

My favorites: tritip with pico, sausage by itself, brisket in the thin and tangy BBQ sauce, elote corn, nopales, beans. But, it was all good and you won't be sorry ordering anything on the menu. Even the complimentary onions and pickles are house made. The sausage was almost like the filling in a dim sum dumpling. The pico was some of the best I've ever tasted, which sounds ridiculous but there it is. The tritip is to die for. The brisket melts. Excellent turkey. Bring a group, order everything, and take home leftovers. Highly recommended. Best of Texas and probably beyond.

This review I dug up is from a while ago, things may have changed…read more January 2020 was my first time at Loro in South Austin. My companion and I went at 5 PM on a Thursday. There is a parking lot that was pretty full but not completely. Once inside, we took seats at the back bar where a buddy suggested we sit for faster service. We had menus and water within minutes, and our bartender was attentive the whole time. We ordered a mix of dishes that had been recommended and a couple more: Oak grilled Snap peas, Coconut scented Rice, Chicken Karaage, Tomato and Cucumber salad, Smoked Prime Bavette Plate, Smoked Beef brisket plate, and Chocolate mousse. For drinks we got Thai Berry smash and Mandarin Margarita. Overall, there was good flavor in all the dishes, with well-paired flavor combos, which is the standard Hai Hospitality sets. However, some dishes didn't have as bold flavor as I was hoping. The Chicken karaage could have been bolder. Surprisingly, the Tomato and Cucumber salad had more flavor than expected. The Prime Bavette and Smoked Brisket were great, though a bit pricy. Both of the drinks were excellent, but only got one each as we're not big on spending on alcohol with dinner. Normally I'd go to this type of place with high-end satiation expectations, such as at Uchiko, where actually filling up would cost a lot so I don't fill up and plan to eat a couple hours later. However, we were both full after eating the above, and even had a piece of brisket and some rice to take home. For the quality, the value is there. The service was great, the bartender checked on us multiple times, and gave us updates on what dishes were left to come out once we were about two-thirds through our order. Each time a dish came we got a refresher on what it was from the server, which I like. The place was about 1/3 full at 5 PM and 2/3 full when we left at 5:45 PM, with the volume-level rising. The speed and quality of the meal taken together is excellent-- we were in and out quickly and enjoyed our fine dining. The restaurant was a bit dark; I could read the menu fine, but one older gentleman had to use his phone to see the menu text. At the end of the meal, a small gift card helped lower the price so it was under 100 out the door. We ended up being very happy with the food and experience-- it was great, but it wasn't amazing solely because a couple dishes needed their good flavor to be bolder. No single item wasn't good, and a couple were exceptional, so I'd easily recommend this restaurant and would like to go back.

Fried okra and mac&cheese on one. The classic potato salad and hot pinto beans on the other. Brisket was tender and flavorful. Not dry. A good 8-8.5 points on the 10 point scale! The beans were a 8.5-9! Flavor, spice, texture were quite good. One would be surprised as how some place mess up beans. Potato salad was as good as any and exactly what one should expect. Fried okra was made to order! No soft heat lamp mush here. Flavor wise, it was also as one would expect of traditional fried okra. Mac&cheese was average flavor but good portion. Was ok. Nothing to rave on, yet no complaint. Simple/basis type so a little more pop to the recipe could be a good future tweak. The place itself is adorable and just what you'd expect from a CENTX BBQ joint, cute and plenty of country. Husband and I got 2 meat and 3 meat plates with all different meats and sides so we could try all they had to offer or at least a good majority of it. I will start by saying everything had great flavor, great bark, cooked well. We both thought if they could come up with a way to keep or serve fresher meat products they'd be much better. Luckily hubby asked for moist brisket when he caught a glimpse of the dried out looking lean brisket. The moist brisket gets a 3.0, tender juicy good flavor, good bark, more smoke outside than in. Turkey was good that wasn't too dry and good smoke flavor throughout but could have a bit more flavor on the outside, it gets a 3.0/5. Sausage was good, liked the course texture, smoked well, crisp outside a little dry 3.5/5. Ribs great bark good flavor, tender with a bite like it should have, too much smoke and dried out 3.0/5, pulled pork 2.5/5 dried out, decent smoke and flavor and good bark, just very dry. The sides: potato salad was good 3.5/5 very traditional for CenTX nothing above and beyond but a good standard. Beans could have been a little more tender and could have used a touch more salt but otherwise good flavors appreciated the smoky meaty quality and pepper, 3/5. Mac and cheese 2.5/5 it's basic think blue box with added cheese and cream, could definitely be better but not bad by any means. Fried okra, STOLE THE SHOW! 5/5 We seriously have never had better and that is truly saying something! We make, have eaten at MANY different places, and had grandmas that made cast iron fried okra...and still have not had better! Sorry Grandma! Do NOT skip the okra! I'd go back through the drive thru just for Okra, in fact I might just do that on the way back! Overall, this adorable small town gem is putting out decent CenTX BBQ. If you can manage to get it all fresher, it could truly be something worth driving for and writing about.
