Slam dunk! Awesome deal, beyond great service and good food! Quite the surprise with Bareburger. I happen to come at an off time so I literally had the entire restaurant to myself. What a cute vibe: tropical with a mix of old school. They have a bar separate from the dining tables and booths giving lots of different seating options. They offer an incredible lunch special for a DOLLAR you can add fries and a soda to your burger. The burger was cooked perfectly and fries hit the spot with just a hint of salt. I opted for a single patty which was plenty, couldn't even finish it. On a side note the guys working Leo and the shift manager were running it as if they owned it. Unfortunately this was not a very standout burger to me. It was super messy and even with the garlic aioli added, it was just alright. I tried ordering online but it was strange because before paying it would send my order and I was trying to edit my order and it would let me. Went here on a Saturday afternoon with no reservation and there was no wait! I couldn't decide what to get, so I went with the server's recommendation for a juicier burger--the Cilantro Black Bean. My friend and I both got combos with fries and a drink. The burger was massive, and the fries were super generous and seasoned perfectly! My burger was messy to eat--juicy and full of flavor, which was awesome! Definitely one of those meals you need to have at the restaurant or at home, though, not in a park or outdoors because of how messy it got. I loved how they didn't skimp on the avocado, the pickled onions weren't overpowering, and the patty was moist! The only downside? The bun felt a little weirdly cold. Ordered pickup online from the Bareburger website. Double Smash burger with sunny egg and bacon extras, along with a vanilla milk shake. Plus tip + $40.00. When I arrive to pickup my food I ask about the Bison Burger which is no longer available. I'm told that Kips Bay is now a "Test" kitchen with a focused menu. I notice there is no milkshake in the bag and they tell me "2 minutes". 10 minutes later the shake finally arrives and by the time I get home the egg has dried, the beef is lukewarm and the bacon is chewy. It doesn't matter how fantastic the burger is, and let's face it, it's just a burger, waiting 10 minutes for a shake that costs $10 (probably the highest margin food item on the menu) it ruins the whole experience. Kips Bay used to be quick, easy and they would always get the order right. Maybe they should "test" that! read more

Bare burger is such an excellent find that I already went twice this week. The food variety and happy hour deals are hard to beat or find anywhere else in town. I appreciate the vegetarian options like Impossible burgers and Impossible chicken nuggets, and they also make a killer beef Burger with whatever toppings your heart desires. The service has always been very kind and efficient, and they go out of their way to help us split the bill when we asked them to, which is sometimes hard to find in the city. The wait was long, the place didn't feel clean, and the food? Just terrible. Honestly, I hope the health department shuts this place down before someone else has to suffer through it. I ordered the Farmstead, which is literally a vegan burrito. It consisted of sweet potato, kale, and wild rice patties, hummus, tomatoes, and basil avocado dressing all wrapped up with collard green leaves. The entire burrito was only 380 calories, but it was definitely packed with flavorful ingredients that kept me full for the rest of the afternoon. I was surprised to like it as much as I did! The decor of the restaurants are funky and are often a depiction of animals in clothing. My server was helpful, friendly and attentive during the visit. The question I have to ask sometimes when I review is, "is it fair to review it this way when this place is obviously not for me?" And the answer I come back to every time is, consider the many factors outside of the food itself, ambiance, the time of day, crowd, so on and so fourth. I am not a fan of thigh meat as is, but this was fatty, I hope you understand what I mean when I say sweaty, just overall not good and utterly disappointing for something that should be more on the simple side. We also had the Macho fries, this wasn't so bad, the latin flavors used weren't exactly authentic, but honestly it was the better part of the meal in entirety. Burgers were very average themselves. I tried the supreme, the rest of my party were non meat eaters so they had the beyond and impossible burgers which they barely finished as is.
