A nice place to eat after snorkeling They have a great outside eating area right on the beach! Tables in the sand with great drinks. The food is good but pair with the scenery it is just very hard to beat. The crab wontons were crispy and delicious, the taro chips were the bomb.com, and as I said the drinks are righteous. You won't go wrong stopping here to enjoy the ocean, a bit of food, and a cocktail. But when you stop... get the taro chips! read more

It's called the barefoot bar because there's actually sand under your feet. I didn't care too much about the sand, but my wife actually loved it, kept digging her feet into the sand while eating. I love that the Barefoot Bar is a reasonably priced option amidst a strip of very high priced options. And I believe it's the same kitchen as the Hula Grill (but without the price tag). We had no trouble getting in with a little bit late reservation. My wife got the thai chicken flatbread. The waiter said it was super unique, it wasn't; but it was actually quite good. It wasn't huge but was still filling and it had a really good spicy kick to it. I had the firecracker fish which was a fillet of a fresh fresh that was pretty well spiced. It also had a good kick but wasn't overpowering by any means. It also came with some rice and salsa. Didn't need to eat too much of the rice. Would come back. My wife also had a really tasty coconut cocktail that even I enjoyed! read more

Came here 8 years ago and had their mai tai which was great! I remember it being perfectly stiff and refreshing. Finally back in Maui and came by with the fam bam and the mai tai was still delish and served in a large mongo cup. Was here for hh and although the prices arent that "happy", it was still good considering you have a great view of the beach, hula huts, and sand at your feet. I like the vibe better than Leilani across from it. I liked the music better too. I was there on a Thurs night and it was 1 musician on his ukulele. Very chill and relaxing. Our server was great too. Hh prices were about $8-$10 for apps and $8 for cocktails, $5 draft beers. I remember liking the flatbread, the kalbi tacos, and the burger. Our bill for 5 ppl was $180 and we did over eat and drink as usual. Took home most of the fish and chips. I didnt get to try any of this unfortunately. They validate for 4 hours inside the whalers village. read more

After being turned away for reporting back in 30" for a 30" wait, we were eventually led to our seats. We did manage a mai tai from our brusque, inattentive waiter; it proved the bartender to be the worst on the island. The fish was chewy, with a thick batter that was somehow soggy. I came here for lunch and the view of the ocean wss amazing! I ordered ceviche and it was different and good. It taste like tarty and sweet. It must have been the coconut milk. I also came during happy hour ans they have live music. The mixed drinks are good (mai tai and plamtation lemonade) but won't give you a buz so stick with wine. I had the chardonnay and it was good. One of the best places on the Kaanapali beachfront to watch sunsets. Food has always been excellent, and it is truly a barefoot bar located right on the sand. Live entertainment [Hawaii infused smooth jazz usually] and enough of a view of the beach, Maui/Lanai channel that you may not even notice a live performer on the sand mound at the edge of the restaurant and beach. Located in the Whaler's village so after a nice meal you can tool around and maybe stop in the ABC store for nick nacks and booze. Another must-go place every time I'm on Maui. read more

Let me start by saying the burger was passable and the live music was nice. Service was atrocious. We were there Friday night and waited 90 minutes for a table for 2. We were told 1 hour, and the hostess seemed angry that we decided to wait. We should've taken the hint and went to Monkeypod (which is excellent). Once we're finally seated, Our waiter comes by and gets our order. We order (2) cocktails and chicken wings for an app. We let him know the concierge at the Westin gave us a coupon for the free wings app and he starts shaming us as if we were there to only eat the free wings with drinks. "I'm sorry but you'll need to order at least 2 entrees to redeem that deal." We knew what we wanted already, due to the fact we had waited an hour and a half, and went ahead and put our order in. He comes back about 10 minutes later with our drinks. My wife ordered the top shelf mai tai and it tasted like they squeezed 3 limes into it. Tasted nothing like a mai tai, it was AWFUL. My wife didn't want to make a big deal about it, so we just slid it to the other side of the table and I shared my lava flow with her. Food comes out and my wife's pulled pork sandwich looks like it had been sitting for a while, lukewarm and super soggy. My burger looked to be fine but there was no condiments. Waited another 5 minutes for our waiter to bring some condiments and now my burger is cold and my wife's pork mush burger is barely edible. To top it off, our waiter tells us he never put our wing order in. So he tried to convince us not to get it (very strange behavior) and we said that we still wanted them. We finish dinner and wait about 10 more minutes for the wings. Wish we hadn't, they tasted like beef jerky (in dryness and flavor). They put the wings over a bed of diced cabbage, so when you pull one out of the bowl, cabbage falls all over the table. When the waiter comes back to take our plates he makes a joke about us being messy and spilling cabbage all over the place. He starts wiping the table off While we're still sitting there and wipes a bunch of bbq sauced cabbage right into my wife's lap. He also brushed some into the table behind us. Our waiter was HORRIBLE. We didn't send any food back, we didn't ask them to take off the bitter lime mai tai that went basically untouched, and because my wife is a saint, we left him a tip. Worst service I've ever had at a restaurant. There are so many great places to go on the island, do yourself a favor and go anywhere but here. We loved all the other places we ate at: Star Noodle, Kimos, Lelanis, Monkeypod, whalers food court, prison street pizza, Hyatt, Westin (Relish), Gazebo, and I'm sure I missed a few. This is a bar that is on the sand. Take your shoes off and walk in the sand to your table. Service was great and ahi poke tacos are outstanding. Live entertainment too. This is a great hang out to enjoy cocktails and watch the surf. The Hula Grill is the sister restaurant next door where there is no sand if that's your preference. Different menu too. They validate parking for the garage you'll need to park in too. Only because we ran out of time did we not return to this restaurant a second time. read more

Barefoot Bar never disappoints. We go every time we visit Maui. Our server was Sanna and she was so sweet and made great recommendations and knew the menu and fish items very well. If there isn't anything that peaks your interest on the BB menu, you can ask to take a look at the Hula Grill menu, which is connected to this establishment. The BB offers a more casual menu and I do wish they would step-up the menu because I had a hard time this time around finding anything I like. We started with the Kailua Pork Flat Bread as an appetizer and it was very good. My husband had the Fish & Chips and he said it was excellent. My Mom had the Grilled Fish Tacos, she gave it an 8 and my Grilled Fresh Fish Plate was like a 7. It needed some kind of sauce on it and it was a little dry. They use to offer Asian Style Ribs, which were really good. Maybe they will switch up the menu in the future. This won't stop me from going because the entertainment is always delightful, interactive and relaxing and the drinks are delicious A great place to take the little ones. This is the more casual part of the adjacent Hula Grill restaurant. It's literally in the sand, so wear flip flops or you'll get a ton of sand in your shoes. The food was good, much better than I expected (I find that most places with good views have mediocre food because they know people will keep coming back for the view). Good service. Live music was nice. The location drives tons of people to it, as we were quoted a 1 hour wait at 6pm and a 45 minute wait at 8pm. I'd say it's pretty equivalent to Beachside Grill at Leilani's next door, which seems like it's the same owner (so I'd just go with the shorter wait, or if there's something in particular you want on that place's menu). read more
