Slurp slurp slurp that's basically the whole meal bc the crazy person kept drinking th cucumber salad dressing slurp slurp she thought it was so good and hey i thought it was really good too I didn't slurp it though because I am not as crazy as she is she can be one of the craziest ever. I want to go back for a sno cone. I want to go back to get more. I biked here the crazy person did too she is so safe.

Talk about delicious! We love this new neighborhood spot that opened up. Love the laid bar, walk in bar vibe. The servers are all wonderful, helpful, and answered all questions we had about the menu and concept for the restaurant. All the dishes were wonderful. I do feel the Wagyu dumplings were the best of the dumplings in all categories of flavor and texture. They were light but really flavorful. I also really enjoyed the salmon adobo onigiri it was such an interesting combination of flavors that was totally unexpected. We do make a reservation online because we heard it gets super busy, and super glad I did! There is a small pay here parking lot at the end of the block as well because we struggled to find parking at first. We'll be back soon!

Solid experience. Needs bigger nori for the onigiri. The crab one was excellent. Will return for that. My sake pour was 2 sips, disappointing. Hand rolls were good, the veggie one was actually the best I think. Dumplings were fine.

I'd give the this place 6 stars if I could. Relatively new spot in dt Charleston. It's a place where you share a lot of food with the table so just be prepped for that. But the dumplings are so good and I could not recommend that enough

This past Sunday we got to try Bareo for the first time. We sat at the bar and enjoyed watching some of the food being prepared. The restaurant had a great vibe and with their music pumping we were ready for a fun meal. We started with the pork longanisa and shrimp siomai. Very tasty and a perfect way to start our late lunch. The bento box description definitely caught my eye since it had a little bit of everything. We paired it a with a cold, crisp San Miguel beer. The miso sinigang soup had nice citrus tang to it while also being a little spicy. I really liked the miso salmon and pork humba crispy over rice top with a sweet sauce. Lots of different flavors which had us craving another serving. The bento box also had a potato salad, pickled vegetables and a boiled egg. My only regret was not saving room for dessert which you only have to look on their socials to see how fun it looks.

Small little restaurant, with a great feel. Great attentive service, and customer focus. Food was great, not overly stuffing. Great experience in downtown Charleston. Best bet is to reserve, but they do take walk ins for bar counter.

Finally found it!....a dumpling in Charleston that isn't a half moon shape! Way to go Bareo! Taking the time to honor culinary tradition like doing the proper 7 pleats on the dumplings is a real indicator to me that Chef Nikko isn't fooling around! The space (back at Kultura's old location) screams intimate Ramen shop in Japan, but don't look for Ramen here. What you'll get is a fantastic fusion of Japanese and Filipino foods that coexist perfectly side by side. We sat at the counter and watched the Maestro (Chef Nikko) conduct his orchestra. Each set of hands came together in perfect harmony to produce an amazing array of flavors and textures. Order cards and pencils are at each table and diners fill in the little circle like those multiple choice tests we used to take in school. Most categories had 3 choices and with a few having 2 choices. (See Menu photo) We had: Tuna Yuzu Kosho- Onigiri Scallop, Bagoong, Lemon - Handroll Salmon, Miso, Megi - Handroll Wagyu Truffle - Dumplings Pork and Cabbage- Dumplings Bento Box with Miso Salmon, Pork Humba, Potato Salad, Pickles (shiitakes, Cucumbers, Cauliflower), Sinigang Soup, and. Boiled Egg with jammy yolk - Large Plates Ube & Strawberry - Kakigori with Strawberry syrup, Ube Whipped Cream and Lychee Kakigori is the only Charleston snow I can wrap my mind around, lol The general vibe is fun and neighborly. The service is awesome and each dish is explained when it arrives at your table. If you are a fan of Dumplings and Japanese and/or Filipino eats, you will love Bareo! Fantastic ambiance, food and service all around. They truly made the most out of the small space where it feels intimate but not crowded. You must order at least one from each category, or one of everything if you're with friends! The mango curry crab onigiri is the standout of the night and the year so far for me. The perfect balance of sweet and savory. The tuna onigiri is also fantastic with a delicious furikake. All of the hand rolls are a must! If you had to decide on only one set of dumplings I would suggest the shumai. I love that you can get all but one of their drinks on the menu zero or with proof. The Highball is excellent and the Charleston Cobbler was an unexpected delight. You must finish your night with a kakigori, the pandan was a perfect not too sweet ending to the evening! You can tell every one preparing your food and beverage took pride in their work and it truly shows in the quality of the food and experience.

Going that extra step certainly did not go unnoticed and something I value in a dining experience. First of all-- the matcha mocktail was a wonderful opener to our evening. We ordered the truffle edamame (our favorite), the chef's choice nigiri which was incredibly fresh, the salmon & lemon roll (a must order), and the spider roll. My partner said the mochi was the best he's ever had. We highly recommend this dining experience not only for the exceptional service but for the quality in every dish.

The sushi was fresh, and their food and drink menu included a wide…read morerange of standard to premium selections, including fatty tuna, A5 wagyu, and Junmai Daiginjo. I appreciated how they filled their spicy tuna rolls with chunky pieces of fish instead of the usual ground tuna used in other sushi restaurants. Their offerings and methods of preparation, paired with their higher price point, suggests they are a higher end establishment. However, the atmosphere was undoubtedly on the casual side, and their service, although friendly and knowledgeable, exuded a lack of experience and the same attention to detail that they put into their food. This was especially apparent after coming from eating at other restaurants in a similar price bracket, where you can sense the waitstaff had a lot of pride and passion for their craft, and it didn't feel like it was just a job for them. In contrast, our experience at Shiki felt far more transactional, and lacked that "customer obsession" and genuine warmth. That said, it's difficult to judge a restaurant's culture just from a single night, and maybe other customers had a different experience from us. Ultimately, if good sushi is your priority and you are willing to splurge a bit, Shiki meets and even exceeds that bar.

They exist, but some of the best are so unassuming you can walk right past them. Shiki is exactly that kind of place--a small, warm, inviting restaurant tucked into a strip mall that feels like a neighborhood secret. Loc, our waiter, greeted us as soon as we sat down with water, a friendly welcome, and a helpful walk-through of the menu. We started with wine and sake--always a promising beginning. The first course was seaweed salad with baby octopus, and I could have happily sipped that dressing like a cocktail. Light, bright, perfectly balanced, with tender octopus that added just the right bite. From there we decided to sample our way through the menu and ordered a lineup of rolls: Spicy Yellowtail, Spicy Shiromi, Rainbow, Spider, Lemon Salmon, and Eel. Each one seemed better than the last. The Spicy Shiromi was the clear standout--absolutely spectacular. What really sets Shiki apart is that every roll has its own distinct flavor instead of the one-note sameness you find at so many sushi spots. You can tell real care goes into the preparation. If you're searching for fresh, thoughtful, genuinely delicious sushi, don't overlook this little gem. Shiki is the real deal.

The bar is hidden away in a parking lot where it is difficult to turn into from the other side of the road because of a barrier so you have to make a u turn up the road a little bit. The place itself is kind of small. I sat at the bar but I'm not sure why but it felt a little off. It didn't feel like a normal sushi bar where I felt like I was able to see the chef prepare the food I'm not sure if there was some kind of height disproportion or if the glass with food was blocking the way. The staff was friendly but there did seem to be some kind of miscommunication between the server and the chef when they were doing hand offs on top of the bar. It might be better to do food handoffs at the open corner to the side so the waitress didnt have to reach high and over customers although maybe it is different when it is busy since I was the only one at the bar. The food itself was delicious although I must admit I can't tell the difference between normal sushi. I would rate this as normal sushi. To put things in perspective bad sushi would have dried out rice or fish that tastes a bit off in a bad way. Amazing sushi would be something that just tastes so different but in a good way. Could be a cute casual date spot or even a friend group meet up spot. Keep in mind the space is limited but it shares the menu and space with Taste of Thai next door. I havent been into Taste of Thai yet so I can't talk about the spacing in there.

The first thing of note are the prices which are very reasonable. In fact the nigiri was so low I had to confirm it was for 2 pieces and not just one The restaurant is smallish but comfortable. They also share a hallway with their sister restaurants a taste of Thai, and as i understand it, you can order from both restaurants, regardless of which one you are eating at Regarding the Sushi itself there was some good, but there was also some average, and some very bad. I will go from worst to best. We started buy getting two orders of Tobiko. They had an option of Red, Green and Black. We have never had Black Tobiko (infused with squid ink), so we ordered Green and Black. The waitress got it wrong and gave us Red instead of Block . We should have sent it back, but we do like the red so we kept it. BIG MISTAKE. Normally a red Tobiko has a slight smokey flavor, but this was so over the top I wasn't sure if it was unique flavor to this restaurant or bad fish eggs. The wife thought so little of it she spit it out. The Green wasn't bad, but we were already on a downhill slide Next was two Eel handrolls which we normally love. Mine was OK, but The wife's Eel looked, and she said tasted raw and so this was another dish she could not eat. Next on the not so great list was the Ginger. Something else we normally love, but this Ginger was an odd darker shade pink to Red and had an funny taste to it. The Rainbow Roll was not bad, but I personally never had it with Shrimp. I am assuming they use Shrimp to lower the cost, but my preference isn't to have Shrimp as one of my fishes on a Rainbow roll. The spider roll we order was decent, but could have used some Eel Sauce on it. We tried something new for us which was the Salmon Tempura Roll. This consisted of Salmon tempura, crab, cucumber, avocado, masago, teriyaki. Neither of us have had Salmon tempura so it was not only unique but very good. We both loved the light crunch of the tempura fired Salmon. It has been many years since we ordered salmon skin, so we got 2 hand rolls. This was the star of the night. The roll was loaded with wonderful crispy salmon skin with Masago, scallion, spicy mayo. The wife usually does not like spicy mayo, but in this case, it paired really nice with the crunch of the skin. So yea some good, some medium, and some really bad.

We started with the tempura vegetables that had a super light fry on them and a good variety of veggies. Then we both had bento boxes which included veggies, rice, dumplings, sushi and a protein. On one we had teriyaki chicken and the other was scallops plus an add on of chicken katsu. I thought the scallops were going to be normal sea scallops, but they were the tiny bay scallops. Still tasty, but worth knowing before ordering. I'm glad I doubled down on protein with the chicken katsu which came on it's own plate with dipping sauce.
