Hibachi Grill on Savannah Highway in West Ashley is one of my favorite spots for hibachi in the area. I really like the way that everything is prepared and is fresh and delicious. The steak and shrimp are my favorites to get. They are a good choice for a quick lunch stop or for dinner when you need to feed a lot of people. Affordable hidden hibachi gem. The prices match the decor. It's like walking into the late 80's early 90's. Centrally located in the heart of west Ashley. I ordered the teriyaki shrimp combo that includes rice and veggies. They give a good amount of shrimp and they clean the shrimp. The veggies included are zucchini, broccoli and onions. The shrimp were DELICIOUS, the teriyaki flavor was a little on the sweet side. The broccoli was hard and the zucchini has a really weird taste, my daughter said it taste like tap water. The rice was decent. The major downside to my meal was the amount of teriyaki sauce. I couldn't finish the food because it was doused in teriyaki sauce where it was soupy. This was my first time here and I wasn't disappointed. The Hibachi Steak & Shrimp was delicious. The steak is cooked to your preference (medium in our case). The steak was very tender and wasn't fatty at all. The rice and vegetables were flavorful. We also got the Lemon Pepper Chicken (today's special) and it likewise was awesome. It may not be the most creatively named place, but OMG this place is addictive! I just moved to Charleston from Atlanta, and one thing I hadn't been able to find was decent Japanese food. I had a favorite place back home and nothing in Charleston had been comparable. I decided to do a Yelp search while on James Island and this place came up in the search results. After looking at some of the photos on Yelp, I decided it looked good and ordered over the phone. My order was ready when I arrived, not even 5 minutes later! I was so impressed. I ordered the steak hibachi plate and an onion soup. The portions for everything were huge, and I only paid like $12 total. Definitely enough for two meals for me. The steak and rice were great, the vegetables (zucchini, broccoli, onions and mushrooms) and pink sauce were to die for, and the soup... I could drink about a gallon of it. I am new to the area and was just looking for something good for dinner. I am a US Navy Veteran and I also work at the VA and have been commuting from Columbia for the past two months before finding a place in West Ashley. I walked in at a little after 4 pm and got the worst glare from the woman working at the counter. I gave my order and she rang it up wrong and then I tried to pay and something happened with there machine and she then said ma'am just leave your card in the machine and tossed my receipt at me through a little window. I then asked for a refund and she said why and I told her her attitude with me and throwing a receipt at me and then she proceeded to raise her voice at me cussing and using derogatory racial remarks and threatening me over and over. She approached me and I just stood there she told me over and over about her personal business as if it was an excuse to be rude to people. She threatened me over and over again and was screaming at the top of her voice. She walked out and told the guys cooking you need to come get your customer because I am leaving I 'need this s***. She called me a cracker and said all you white people should just go back to the mountains? She came back in and was speaking something in another language and didn't wash her hands but continued to verbally abuse me for no reason. She told me several times that her husband passed away and she did not need this s***. I told her I was sorry but she didn't know what anyone else is going through and this isn't a racial thing I just wanted to pick up a nice dinner. I was not cussing at her or raising my voice or threatening her at all. This is worst experience I have ever had and I would not visit this place ever again and recommend you do either and after reading the other reviews it like she has been at for quite awhile and still allowed to work there or either all the people they hire are just as rude as her. I called the owner/manager and he apologized very lightly and offered me the refund I asked for but didn't seem very worried about it at all. No other attempts to resolve this issue were made. Is just OK. Includes both Japanese and Chinese. Is geared mostly toward takeout, but have small, not very attractive, section to dine in. Things like spring rolls and dumplings come straight out of frozen bag, which is not surprising for this kind of takeout. Quality maybe slightly better than average Chinese takeout, but service definitely slower. read more

The flavor was bland, the chicken was sparce (about 12 very small chunks), and the rice was overabundant --just added weight to the dish. For $5 and change, it was really worth about $1.75. My daughter and I came to eat here on Sunday the 28th of October around 2:30. It's her favorite restaurant. We walked in, to a cashier with and attitude she said NOTHING to us. The look on her face was hurry up and tell me what you want so I dont have to deal with you anymore. made no effort to make eye contact or even acknowledge I tried to make a joke about the damaged cups. Thought maybe she was in a bad mood (trying to cheer her up) no, it wasnt her, it was US. This restaurant was an extremely pleasant surprise! We stopped on the way home from Florida and spontaneously decided to eat hibachi. The rice was delicious, the white sauce was incredible, the steak was high quality, low in fat, and cooked to perfection. Wonderful vegetables, tasty and perfectly complemented with a conventional hibachi overtone. It was not especially greasy or in any way unhealthy, I would have to say I wish I lived near this place. Compared to similar styled restaurants, in presentation and general regional cuisine, I would choose this restaurant over others without hesitation. The food is always amazing here, this is the only hibachi place I've found in Charleston that is just as good take out as one of those "cook in front of you" places. Everyone is always very pleasant except for one lady that seems to always be having a terrible day (pretty sure her name is Kesha). She was extremely ugly to me when I walked in to pick up my take out order, to which I told her she could be a little nicer. She then proceeded to tell me "I don't have to be nice to you! You can go somewhere else for all I care." Hands down this is my favorite hibachi place in all of South Carolina. I usually do not write reviews for Yelp, but this place is great. Although I have been going here for four years, I always get the chicken teriyaki and don't venture out too much. First of all, their rice is perfect. It has almost a stickier type of consistency but there is the right amount of sauce cooked with it. I swear the rice gets better and better every time I go. For vegetables, you get a great portion of zucchini and onions - two of my favorites! I'm not too keen on mushrooms, but fortunately they usually don't serve it with the entrees. The chicken is amazing. They are perfect bite sized pieces with a sweet crispy glaze. Add some white sauce with it and you will not be disappointed. You won't be disappointed going here. The vegetables were not cooked all the way and the chicken was more on the greasy side than teriyaki side, the rice was fine can't really go wrong with rice.
