Sashimi and nigiri are pretty fresh! Sushi sashimi fusion had a pretty wide spread, but I don't think crab stick belongs on nigiri. I liked the hot sake, but I had to do a separate transaction for it for some reason and it wasn't cheap. read more

Sushi choices are the best around West Ashley. The sushi chefs kept sending over different sushi dishes to try. Great roll selection with limited cream cheese. Sorry but I've been eating sushi for 40 years, cream cheese does not belong in rolls unless it's a Philadelphia Roll. It was very quiet and I'm not sure why. I can never remember the names of the sushi rolls I get but I usually get one with eel and one with some form of tuna. The guy that greeted me was SO nice and had a great smile. I came here for a quick bite, sushi and miso soup. The place was huge and decor was definitely interesting lol there's a big motorcycle right in the front so I wasn't sure what they were going for but hey do your thing. Miso soup was tasty, and my sushi rolls came out very quick. I wasn't blown away but the taste was good. Rice was nicely packed and rolls were nice. Just had a bowl of steaming hot ramen at this beautiful, clean Japanese hot spot in West Ashley. The large bowl was filled with many slices of pork, slivered mushrooms, 2 egg halves, green onions, tons of noodles and a flavorful broth. Went for an early dinner after a sushi craving hit a member of my group. There weee only three other tables of customers when we showed up and I hope it was only because of the early dinner hour. I stopped in here again mid-day (3:30 pm?) after visiting a few stores in West Ashley...and I think I was maybe 1 of 3 customers while there? I noticed that again, all diners were seated in the left side of the restaurant only...whereas the nicer part of the restaurant was on the right side. Could be that they only serve the right side (as well as the left side) for dinner? Oh Well. Another thing I noticed by now (after visiting 3 chain locations in Charlotte and Charleston) is that although this is a Japanese restaurant, all the staff members seem to be Fillipinos. Could this be a Japanese restaurant owned and run by Fillipinos? No matter, the foods have tasted authentic...and service at all the locations I've been to have been stellar. Anyway, I ordered their House Salad with Ginger Sauce, Shrimp Tempura, and this Kamakaze Specialty Roll...and the foods were served within 5-10 minutes! As expected, everything was delish. The Ginger sauce was unique in that it was a creamy ginger mix...and the Shrimp Tempura was thin, but very crispy. More than anything, I was really impressed with the uniquely decadent taste of the Kamakaze...as in Oh WOW!! The thing I wasn't too amazed with was the chunky tempura flakes on top. Why so chunky?? Also, the presentation was a bit sloppy. Still, it was SO delicious...and such a value! The Kamakaze specialty roll was only 12 bucks...unusually low pricing (in terms of specialty rolls) nowadays. I'm obviously a fan of this chain by now...and am sure to return! read more

This was another huge disappointment on my recent business trip to SC and maybe the worst meal I ate during the trip. I visited late one night since I had eaten a very late lunch. The drive from my hotel was about 12 minutes. I visited about 1 hour before closing...and that is apparently when they have half off hibachi. I decided to skip that deal, and just stuck with sushi. I ordered what I thought was 2 rolls. A yellowtail jalapeño small plate, and another larger roll with a few different fish. The 1st roll turned out to be a hot appetizer that was deep fried, with no indication on the menu it was hot or fried. I could only eat 1 bite and just left it. The roll was OK, but not fresh at all. I was able to eat most of the 2nd roll, which was an actual roll; however, the fish was just not fresh as I am accustomed to eating. Maybe I just went on an off day, and at a bad time, but I obviously won't ever be coming back. read more

Great staff, quick service and yummy eats. They handed our party of close to forty (yes, we called ahead to ensure sufficient wait staff) quite well. They could have been slightly more attentive to the who ordered what as they use the toast app device to come around to the seats to ring in the order -- but as the food came out it became a bit of a bidding match as to who ordered what and if this one had shrimp or beef or who's was what's. However, again, for the crowd they did well at getting the food out quickly. Their Rice Bowls are a deal as you can select chicken, steak and shrimp for under twenty bucks. The chicken is nice and tender. If you like cooked carrots these are a nice addition to (and out of the norm for) a hibachi bowl. The shrimp sashimi is a little bizarre as this is served slightly undercooked (raw shrimp) with the shrimp heads on display with the shrimp over a bump of rice. However, they have my current favorite Sushi Dinner roll wrapped in cucumber without the nori-- The Greenville Roll with smoked salmon, tuna, kani and avocado served with ponzu and sweet chili on top. Pretty presentation here and you don't feel heavy after eating it (as this roll has no rice). read more

Our birthday celebration gathering for John Boy Joyner. They have a Wishing Well at the entrance along with a beauty of a motorcycle. We walked in and were seated right away. I didn't like that the sushi was served on a wooden board - I don't understand why anyone would do that. I felt ignored for 10 minutes and didn't get water until I asked for it. They were out of the first sake' I tried to order but suggested a decent alternative. I needed to ask for chopsticks. There have been far too many changes in management and kitchen staff lately, and it's definitely affected the consistency and quality of this restaurant. I've noticed portions getting smaller while prices keep going up -- clear signs of price gouging. The staff also seem disorganized, with people moving in and out constantly, which doesn't inspire confidence. Operations should be more visible and transparent, not hidden away in the back. On top of that, I have serious concerns about cleanliness and overall standards. The place no longer feels as well-maintained or professionally run as it once did. It's disappointing to see a restaurant with potential fall short due to poor management decisions and a lack of quality control. read more

Every waitstaff on shift was on the ready to pull out a warm smile and a helpful response. The food was not a Michelin-star meal, but after having been submerged in above average fried seafood for several days, the hit of umami was a mirage in the Sahara. I got two of them, one was customized to be deep fried which tasted a lot better. I would probably give 3 starts but our server was really nice and accommodating. Our food took a long time to come out and we were waiting a while for the check too. The place is pretty big inside and I think it would be fun with friends! Sushi isn't very fresh, prices are absurdly high for the cost of sushi. There's crab stick in a roll when in the description it was not detailed there. The spring rolls were absolutely terrible. The inside was complete mushMost restaurants spring rolls have some type of crunchy vegetables on the inside. The seaweed salad was a total rip off for the price, 100% disappointed. The cuts of fish are just cheap, they are tough to chew. Raw fish should not be tough to chew, but it should also not be mush. It should be firm but not tough. Probably the worst sushi I've ever had. Actually I think supermarket sushi is better than this. Guess I'll just have to give it to the dogs. read more
