Had a nice dinner here. The prime rib was good and the smoked chicken was perfectly done. The baked beans that came with dinner was the best I've had. The beef and cabbage soup that came with the dinner was very good. Service was friendly and attentive. Bob's Texas T-Bone is a great diner.

I really look forward to trying to time out a trip so we pass the Rufus exit right about meal time. We've stopped many times here at Bob's and while the service usually varies just a bit it's never bad and the food is consistently good or better, depends what you order. This gem on Interstate 84 looks like it's been there for a long time. In fact it was established in 1968 and luckily it has the same look and feel. Some might not think that is a good thing, but for someone nostalgic like me, it's awesome. We've tried a variety of dishes over the past four years from steak to ribs to fried fish and probably every side dish. I have heard them claim they have the best ribs in the Gorge and that could be true, they are very good. The steaks we have ordered have all been cooked to order and very flavorful, The Wife can attest to that, she's tried many. But this dated, unassuming building has more to offer. It has a definite "if these walls could talk" vibe. The bathrooms are always clean. The fact they run a salad bar so you can make what you want is wonderful. The staff is always nice, some nicer than others, but never rude. We have been here when it is busy and when we were the only people there and everything seems to happen in fairly short order. It cannot be easy to staff this place in this part of the state so I give them a little slack in some places. I see a lot of negative reviews here and I guess for some people this may not be the kind of place they are used to in a larger city. I think this is a place to take a break from the road, do a little "time traveling" as it were and enjoy a slower pace than what is whizzing by us outside on the Interstate. Then with a full belly and a smile you can go out and play Daytona 500 with the other drivers in the Gorge.

Huckleberry cinnamon roll - so delicious!

Our family stopped here on the way to WA from OR. My husband was starving and wanting a hunk of meat and we found Bob's. When we walked into the restaurant I saw the glass case of desserts and saw a cinnamon roll with purple frosting. It was a homemade huckleberry cinnamon roll complements of one of the chefs there and it was sooooo good. It sounds like he only makes it during the summer and since we live near Seattle I should've stocked up! Life's regrets. Anyway, on to the meat. My husband ordered a 16 oz t-bone with sautéed mushrooms and a baked potato with a side salad. While the salad was small the ranch dressing was amazing. The steak was good although I only got a couple bites since my husband was basically tearing large chunks off and eating it like he hadn't eaten in weeks. He clearly enjoyed it. It almost looks deserted from the outside but don't let that fool you. It's a decent place! The staff were all really nice. If anyone reads this and stops by on the way to Seattle please pick up some huckleberry rolls and message me. I will Venmo you! Foreal though.

Try the Alaskan amber fish and chips, they are incredible! Had a bite of the t-bone chuck off my husbands plate and it was also soooo good! Incredible, personable caring staff here! also enjoy the old school wooden beams, they don't mill lumber like this anymore. Super charming experience!!

Meh...got a burger which the server said was homemade...I got the western burger and it was very average imo.. I chose potato salad for my side and while it was decent it was a very small amount....I also got a side salad and it really wasn't fresh....The pie for dessert was pretty good....But this food was over-priced...with tip burger meal with dessert came out to like $26 !

Service was prompt, and the restaurant atmosphere is very pleasant. It's kind of funny because you'll have people in suits having a business meeting over dinner, and other regular hotel guests just dining casually in t-shirts and jeans. On both occasions, I was dining with another family member. When we were there for dinner, we were having a really hard time deciding what to order, and our server let us know that there was a 2-for deal going on for some of the pastas. Each of us had been considering a pasta, so that solved that problem! Both were delicious, and we had leftovers to take home. When we were there for breakfast, I was feeling adventurous and ordered the lox and bagel, which I've only had a very basic version of one other time. It was soooo good, and very filling. Several other options on the breakfast menu also sounded really good, but I'm glad I went with this for the experience. I'd definitely eat here again if/when I stay in the hotel again. Since there's no free breakfast offered by the hotel, they give you vouchers for the restaurant, so you can get a pretty good deal on a meal.

Definitely the standout of the table for me. Service was friendly and expedient, which I always appreciate in the morning when everyone is trying to get caffeinated and out the door. My companions ordered the protein bowl, which was a hearty mix of grains and grilled vegetables with your choice of tofu or egg. It leaned a little bland flavor-wise, but it did exactly what it needed to do: provided a filling, healthy base for a full day of activity in Hood River. Not every dish was a knockout, but overall it was a very solid breakfast spot with fair pricing at about $18 per dish.

The coffee was also so light, it seemed as if they had no idea how to make good coffee. My son ordered their "French Dip," which looked like overcooked and burnt roast beef on a "sub" roll that he dipped into a small bowl of au jus to make it edible. At least his french fries were decent. This to me is more of a bar than a restaurant. Its most obvious strong point was atmosphere. We ate outside on a beautiful sunny seventies day. A stained glass window was behind us with hanging potted flowers on both sides. There were trees and grass. Our two servers were nice and attentive. The food was inedible. Ordered a fried chicken sandwich with a 2.00 upgrade for onion rings. What I received was undercooked onion rings with NO seasoning at ALL (not even salt). On the flip side the fried chicken sandwich was overcooked, hard to eat, and NO seasoning whatsoever! (again, not even salt). My spouse got the French dip with fries. Guess where all the salt from my meal wound up? yep... her Au Jus was super salty!!! The beef was so chewy we wound up spitting it out (embarrassing, but discreetly). We could not eat any of it, so we left, 60.00 poorer and unhappy. Hope it was an off day, because the location was lovely.

This is one of our go-to spots on Hood River. We've been here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and…read moresomehow they manage to nail it every single time. Today's mission? Split the St. Helens Burger, an order of fries, and a side salad with the recommended goat cheese (trust them--it was the right call). The burger was everything you want it to be. A fresh poppy seed bun, a perfectly cooked patty, sweet caramelized onions... and then came the poblano pepper. That little bit of smoky heat tied the whole thing together. Now let's talk about the fries because they deserve their own paragraph. These are, without question, my favorite fries. They arrived hot, crispy, perfectly golden, and had that satisfying crunch that makes it impossible to stop at just one. If you're a fry person, these alone are worth the visit. The side salad was fresh and flavorful, and the creamy goat cheese took it from "just a side salad" to something I'd happily order again. It was the perfect balance to all those delicious fries. If you're looking for a place that consistently delivers great food in a welcoming atmosphere, Kickstand Coffee should absolutely be on your list. We've yet to have a bad meal here, and it's one of those places we recommend without hesitation to friends, family, and anyone who asks where to eat. I now wish I didn't let my husband eat more of the fries. Gotta head back up there soon! Service was great and love that the girl at the counter asked me if I was doing anything fun today - extra friendliness goes a long way!

Everyone else is already finishing up their drinks and meals. Wanting just one drink after a long day, I head to the bar! My wife asks me to get her one too. Here's where it gets bizarre. Kickstand has a bar...well, it looks like a bar. But what I found out is that it's just for looks because it doesn't act like a bar. I thought ordering two cocktails and paying for my drinks would be easy, like it is at every bar in town. But the bartender, I mean employee standing behind a bar, asked if I was with the large group. I stated, "yes, I was." Then she proceeded to tell me that the drinks would be on someone's tab. But I showed up late...I don't know what's happening. I don't know who's paying for the "tab". I just wanted to buy two drinks and walk away. But that wasn't allowed at Kickstand. Then another employee walks up and attempts to take my drink order. Super confused, I tell her the employee standing behind the bar just took my drink order. And then we proceeded down the tab conversation again. The second employee said because "we" were a party of 8 or more, I couldn't pay for my own drinks and I they would have to put it on the party's tab. But again, I don't know who owns the tab. If it was the woman having the birthday, I didn't want to add to her bill...on her birthday. Then they suggested I "could just Venmo" the party girl. No! I want to just order two drinks and have Kickstand take my money. Why wouldn't they just take my money?! The place was dead tonight, other than the 5 or so small daycarel families, sitting at their own tables, that made up the "party". I canceled my drink order and walked away out of protest and principal. When asked if I was with the big party, I should have said no I guess. Lesson leaned for next time, if there is a next time. Kickstand, you're so difficult and frustrating!!
