This is part 1 of the review of Bob's Texas T-Bone. Part 2 is a separate review of Frosty's Lounge. We were camping across the river when it was time to eat. I found this place in the small town of Rufus, OR because the menu looked great and wanted something local. We arrived and it looked pretty busy, which is a good sign. We walked in and I saw a SALAD BAR... now this sold me !!! Not only the menus items looked great, but they had specials as well. I chose the special - spareribs, baked potato and SALAD BAR. All was very good. This is definitely on of those old school, local dining joints with good food. Our waitress was attentive, but down to business.. no chit-chat. For BREAKFAST! I didn't see that they had breakfast and it was so good for dinner that we came back for breakfast. Great place. For dinner ...Amazing steak! Don't skip the seasoning when they ask you if you want the "seasoning". The service was spot on by a super friendly gal who was on top of it, quick to please. The atmosphere is a down home country place where everyone knows each other. Go for the salad not the soup. The baked potato was perfect. Would definitely return with more family in tow. read more

Had a nice dinner here. The prime rib was good and the smoked chicken was perfectly done. The baked beans that came with dinner was the best I've had. The service was just fine, in fact the waitress was great. The country gravy tasted a little sour like it had gone bad, no ill effects yet. The T-bone was one of the worst steaks I have ever had. It might have been cooked from frozen, or just a very poor grade of meat. I really really wanted this to be a great place just because the service was so good. Very disappointed. Hopefully for the community's sake they can turn this around. The me s bathroom needed some serious work. Someone had had a bad time of it, yikes. read more

This place is amazing! Stopped in for a rare T-Bone breakfast with hash-browns, eggs and toast. Super Tasty. very diverse menu for all ages. Atmosphere was old fashioned and friendly and the service was outstanding. Will be back on my next pass through. Take-out is also a great option when time is limited. read more

Who'd of thunk it?? Certainly not me but we just had an excellent meal in Rufus, OR. Bobs Texas T-Bone is a great little restaurant & watering hole. We literally discovered Bobs by accident fueled by the desire to stave our hunger pains & refresh ourselves with a cool beverage. We were not disappointed. My husband had the house made meatloaf served open faced on homemade bread with real mashed potatoes & covered in yummy brown gravy. I tried the small portion of the special of the day, chicken fried steak (which was a generous portion especially when soup or a choice of salad bar was included with our meal) The chicken fried steak was tender & delicious. To make the dining experience even nicer, we had a very friendly & attentive server. If you're near Rufus I can highly recommend Bobs Texas T-Bone. Oh don't forget to try one of their great desserts. I really look forward to trying to time out a trip so we pass the Rufus exit right about meal time. We've stopped many times here at Bob's and while the service usually varies just a bit it's never bad and the food is consistently good or better, depends what you order. This gem on Interstate 84 looks like it's been there for a long time. In fact it was established in 1968 and luckily it has the same look and feel. Some might not think that is a good thing, but for someone nostalgic like me, it's awesome. We've tried a variety of dishes over the past four years from steak to ribs to fried fish and probably every side dish. I have heard them claim they have the best ribs in the Gorge and that could be true, they are very good. The steaks we have ordered have all been cooked to order and very flavorful, The Wife can attest to that, she's tried many. But this dated, unassuming building has more to offer. It has a definite "if these walls could talk" vibe. The bathrooms are always clean. The fact they run a salad bar so you can make what you want is wonderful. The staff is always nice, some nicer than others, but never rude. We have been here when it is busy and when we were the only people there and everything seems to happen in fairly short order. It cannot be easy to staff this place in this part of the state so I give them a little slack in some places. I see a lot of negative reviews here and I guess for some people this may not be the kind of place they are used to in a larger city. I think this is a place to take a break from the road, do a little "time traveling" as it were and enjoy a slower pace than what is whizzing by us outside on the Interstate. Then with a full belly and a smile you can go out and play Daytona 500 with the other drivers in the Gorge. read more

First time here. I have had so many people lately how good it is so we stopped by on Thursday. I had the fried chicken dinner and my husband had the patty melt. Both were very good. Nice salad bar. Heard another table talk about the cinnamon rolls so we got one for the next day. So bummed we only bought one to share. It was plenty big to share though. Our family stopped here on the way to WA from OR. My husband was starving and wanting a hunk of meat and we found Bob's. When we walked into the restaurant I saw the glass case of desserts and saw a cinnamon roll with purple frosting. It was a homemade huckleberry cinnamon roll complements of one of the chefs there and it was sooooo good. It sounds like he only makes it during the summer and since we live near Seattle I should've stocked up! Life's regrets. Anyway, on to the meat. My husband ordered a 16 oz t-bone with sautéed mushrooms and a baked potato with a side salad. While the salad was small the ranch dressing was amazing. The steak was good although I only got a couple bites since my husband was basically tearing large chunks off and eating it like he hadn't eaten in weeks. He clearly enjoyed it. It almost looks deserted from the outside but don't let that fool you. It's a decent place! The staff were all really nice. They don't make restaurant like this no more. I feel like I am in a smoky and bandit movie In small town call Rufus. FYI the restaurant is in the town of Rufus . The old building does not look like much but it packs a punch . Great history in this building . A restaurant that fits its town and area. A truckers heavens and friendly to all. You can still find a place that your dollar goes along way and it's care about. I had the 12 oz Ribeye steak smothered in sautéed mushrooms and onions cook to perfection as order thank you chef. My boy said this about his smoked ribs. " They smoked the shit out of these ribs " meet fell off the bones. Everything was good . I don't give out 5 stars rating much. Price point awesome. I was here on a sturgeon fishing trip with Buddy and Doug and wandered over from my motel. Initial greeting wasn't so enthusiastic but took a spot in the bar and was soon embraced like a local. I wasn't that hungry so ate the chili whilst enviously watching my buddy destroy an amazing steak. It was so good we came back for Breakfast which was even better. Try the Alaskan amber fish and chips, they are incredible! Had a bite of the t-bone chuck off my husbands plate and it was also soooo good! Incredible, personable caring staff here! also enjoy the old school wooden beams, they don't mill lumber like this anymore. Super charming experience!! read more

Meh...got a burger which the server said was homemade...I got the western burger and it was very average imo.. I chose potato salad for my side and while it was decent it was a very small amount....I also got a side salad and it really wasn't fresh....The pie for dessert was pretty good....But this food was over-priced...with tip burger meal with dessert came out to like $26 ! read more

Oh yeah. If you happen to traveling through the neighborhood, definitely try this old school steakhouse. Everything was great!

Service was good just wish food was as good as service. Mediocre at best. Most of our party of 8 got fish and chips it was pretty bad.

Amazing steak when I was last here. Good cold fresh beer on top. A great place to stop in for dinner. Plenty of parking. Even room for semi trucks. But here is their updated hours since the last two times I have been here and they were closed when Google or Apple Maps said they were open... Stopped in for dinner and the food was horrible. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. The smoked ribs were way undercooked and the seafood platter was a bunch of greasy cheap seafood cooked in old oil. Absolutely one of the worst meals I've had in a long time. Then there is the service!!! Also horrible. One glass of water and no return until time to pay up. The bill was $40.29 I gave the server a $50 and she took it upon herself to keep the change. Extremely awkward to ask for the change. I will never go back even if I'm starving. Mcdonalds would have been a better choice. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. read more

Camping across the river for a few days, went to the market for some fresh supplies and looked at the steaks for dinner. $18 for one sorry looking piece of meat in the package snd decided it was time to break out of the box and go out for dinner. After reading the reviews, decided we would give this places try. Not easy to find as it's a little further back than the main spots next to the exit. It was everything and more what folks were mentioning. My wife ordered the T-bone, I, the pan fried oysters. She asked for medium rare with soup s as bf baked potato. Her comments between bites, "this steak is the best I ever have had". My meal, excellent fresh and mouth watering. The potato soup was fantastic snd the whole experience was outstanding. The service impeccable, the place was spotless and exceedingly comfortable. Clearly this is a local/regular place to dine, they have a full menu and from what I saw from other tables, prepare to be well fed. read more

My husband and I stopped to eat dinner here and were stopped at the door saying they do not allow dogs! This is my service dog and I cannot be without her, they said no dogs. This part doesn't matter because oregon law states we are allowed to take service animals in restaurants but my service dog is a tiny 2 lbs and sits inside my shirt, she would hardly be seen, she's trained and doesn't bark or anything else that would bother others. I was shocked and they have been reported. I just wanted others to know that even though it's against the law, they refuse to let disabled people with service animals in their restaurant. For a place that is suppose to seem like a steak place (even says in menu they cut their own steak), these steaks tasted like they came from a Schwanns truck, or Sherries. Real big let down after being on the road Will say the sides were amazing Potatoes and country gravy along with garlic toast, really hit my flavor spot. Steak really let me down. read more

We went expecting prime rib, wrong night so we settled for ribeye and chicken. His ribeye was great perfect and tender ... the smoked chicken was fantastic!!! Had leftovers the next day and it was still delicious. Service was superb... Apple Pie A la mode was over the top. read more

So this place is exactly what you would expect from a truck stop restaurant diner. From pie behind the case, a salad bar, old-fashioned diner Decour, cute country style waitresses and a boatload of truckers... This place is exactly what you expect from a freeway side diner. I really liked it though. The steak was delicious. They serve it on a silver tray in old-fashioned style. The potato was good everything was actually pretty good. The restaurant was closing right after I walked in so I sat in the bar. It was kind of cool. They had a movie on in front of me and there was a bunch of truckers in there that you could tell were calling it a night. While spending a night in Rufus my friend and I had dinner and then breakfast at Bob's. We ate in the lounge and the service was just great both for dinner and at breakfast. The server saw us taking pictures of the dishes and offered to take a portrait of us with our food! I had the traditional bacon and eggs with hash browns and sourdough toast, and it was one of the best renditions that I have ever had. My friend had a half order of buiscuts and gravey with 2 eggs, and it was a filling meal. He prefers a more flaky than cakey buiscut, but was well satisfied nuntheless. The dinner was chicken fried steak with mashed taters and salad bar, and was as good as that combo gets. A night cap of bourbon was a generous pour. One tip the motel owner gave us was to ask the server what was good today, and it was good advice, I think! PS, the house made apple butter was wonderful! read more
