I went into Barini's one day and asked to have my leather biker jacket (with the zippers on the arms) altered. Gary was quite the character and was patient with my indecisivness. I eventually agreed on a length and he told me it would take 30 days, for he was packed because of the holidays. I was a bit disappointed and asked if he could do it any sooner since I was heading back to college in about 2 weeks. He said he would try his best. That SAME EVENING... Gary is an incredible business man. The zipper on my leather motorcycle chaps gave out and I needed a replacement asap! He inspected my situation. There were multi layers that needed to be taken out in order to replace the old. I brought my chaps in by 5:30pm. He had my new zipper on by 1:30pm next day. Mine was an emergency situation as I needed them next day. I cannot attest to the turn around always being so prompt... but as some random girl off the street with no network connections to Mr. Gary, needing his services immediately, he DID NOT disappoint. Gary did a wonderful job for me on a vintage Schott Perfecto motorcycle jacket that needed the zipper stitching fixed after it had come loose. I also asked him to match the aged brown leather of the jacket and put a protective layer of that leather around the tin lower buckle of the jacket -- so I don't scratch the gas tank of my bike. He rose to the challenge and totally pulled it off. I'll be taking a new job to Gary soon. I need an out of production Vanson leather jacket tailored from an XL to an L that will fit me. Came here thinking I might have needed a little alteration on my leather jacket. Apparently I didn't. Owner was honest, helpful, and saved me a good amount of money, which btw was not as much as I thought it would cost anyway. Will definately come here again when I need leather work. ONLY downside is that he is really busy. 1 month, maybe slightly less turn around time. My dry cleaner had ruined my favorite black dress with tan leather panels, so I brought it to Gary (not having much hope that it could be salvaged). Have passed by this place so many times, had no idea the kind of work they do till I needed a leather jacket fixed that I thought COULDN'T be fixed. Read YELP reviews and tried it out. So happy! Got amazing leather jacket at thrift store. Some idiot has shortened the sleeves probably by themselves and looked like Munchkin arms. Didn't think I could get it lengthened as the sleeves would have a line mark where the leather had bent. Well, basically I couldn't get lengthened anywhere ELSE except here because they don't just lengthen the sleeves, they actually match the color, dye the leather where the line is so it's NOT THERE. It looked amazing, nearly perfect, like the sleeves had never been shortened. Also they fixed purse handles that I've had glued before that wouldn't stay. They charged me $60 for the lengthening and $15 for the purse. I don't think this was unreasonable. You get what you pay for. If you want it done right, do it right, pay for the expertise and for them not screwing your jacket up. Pay once be forever happy. Instead of paying less getting crappy job back having to take it somewhere else. So happy! read more

It is an honor to be in the presence of an adept at leather who knows and respects their craft with such dignity and decency. They treated me like family although this was our first encounter, betwixt the staff, Gary the owner, and me. Upon dropping off the leather jacket he was upfront with me and explained the labour involved to repair the jacket, greatly in need of Gary's leather virtuoso treatment. There were no guarantees it could be done. A claim ticket was provided, to be presented for the future pickup. They called even before the anticipated completion time. Wow was in order when Gary showed me the jacket. It looked better than new. He cured my leather, nursing it back to health, so much so, I was surprised the jacket was willing to return home with me at all. Especially following all of Gary's pronounced reverence. Had a noticeable rip on the front of my leather blazer and Gary made it disappear. I mean it, it disappeared! You need a magnifying glass to see where the rip was. Gary's store isn't just leather repair and alteration, he also has really great handbags, especially his own designs. I've never seen such excellent workmanship for such reasonable prices. I have several Barini purses that I constantly use. One leather and tapestry bag I bought, 12 years ago, still gets admiring comments. This store is a Los Angeles treasure. I really did my homework before I brought in a very expensive leather jacket and shoes and settled on Barini. Gary actually exceeded my high expectations in every respect. Not only is he incredibly knowledgable, but he is honest and explains everything regarding the process and costs. The end result was gorgeous on both items and quite reasonable cost-wise. I brought a pair of leather jackets here in November, and was THRILLED with how they turned out! I was heading back east for the holidays and wanted to make sure my warmest jackets were ready for the trip. I had lost close to 60 lbs since I bought my two favorite jackets, and they looked comically huge on me. I had no idea what to expect, I didn't even know if you could tailor leather (textiles are not my specialty), but I went in for a quick measurement, talked about the fit I was looking for, and Gary went to work. He let me know ahead of time that the holidays were a very busy time, but he guaranteed they would both be done in 30 days. I told him I didn't need both and that one was my priority, so if he could, to focus on getting that one finished sooner. He called me a full week before the 30 days were up to let me know he had finished BOTH of them. I hauled ass over there and was so impressed with how well they fit and how new they both looked. As I have never had leather tailored before, I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of price. It wasn't cheap, but it was worth every penny. I don't remember what I paid for each jacket originally but they were both definitely in the 250-350 dollar range. All in all, I essentially got two new jackets for the price of one, as the alterations came to about 150 each. I don't have a frame of reference for how costly leather work is, but I still think I got a great deal. I'm sure it was a big job because there was A LOT of material that needed to be trimmed for these to fit as well as perfectly as they do. Would definitely recommend!!! read more

I took a pair of suede western chaps that I needed for an upcoming horse show to Barini Leather to be altered. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. Not only was the work done within a short time window, but the workmanship is absolutely top-notch. In order to take in the chaps, he had to add a seam, which worried me, but it is nearly invisible! I have a crock leather bag that I wanted to add some features to In order to make it more versatile for my life and work and travel etc.such as backpack straps and loops And an extra latch so that I can fit more stuff in it.The craftsmanship that went into adding all the features that I wanted added to my bag is phenomenal! I had a leather vest I needed altered. I went to another place because it was closer to where I lived. After having it for two weeks, they said they didn't have the right sewing machine to make the alteration, or something stupid like that. And I was thinking, why the hell didn't you tell me that when I first came in! So I found Barini Leather on line, and told Gary I only had a week till the event I was going to, since the other place screwed me up. He told me he would do the best he could to get it done on time. Unbelievable!!!!!! I have a Fendi bag that was missing two pieces of leather that go across each strap. I honestly thought I was going to have to go through Fendi to fix the problem. Well then I had the privilege of meeting Gary at Barini Leather!!!!!! Right away Gary told me that the bag was something he could fix for me, explaining exactly what he was going to do and would call me within a week. Only two days later Gary called me and told me my bag was ready. I realize this is just a purse and I am overly excited about it, but a purse I thought was ruined. When He brought the bag out for me I couldn't believe what I saw. My bag looked exactly like it had just came from the store!!! I couldn't even see where the work had been done. A PERFECT JOB!!!!!! Ive had 2 jobs done her. Both non standard jobs. 1 aspect of this shop that i really like is that they care about what the final product looks like, not just about the repair. They trwat the leather work like a true art. The 1st was to refurbish an old belt that was my girlfriends grandfathers. Obviously critical and not replaceable. The shop owner did a wonderful job of installing a backing, sticking cracks and polish/clean. Ended up beautiful :) The 2nd job was repairing my motorcycle jacket and gloves. I would only take them to a trusted shop since my life is on the line. They put in a new zipper (heavy duty) and re stitched places that had torn in a recent fall. Highly recommended! read more

Great work! Gary restored two leather bags, a leather jacket, skirt and pants after they were recovered from a house fire. I had finally found THE (almost) perfect leather jacket last year but unfortunately went unworn a lot of the time because I found the shoulders a tad too large. I decided to finally get it altered and brought it to Gary at Barini. He gave me a time estimate of about two months since he was pretty backed up but actually finished earlier than that. I was initially a bit scared since he mentioned that both sleeves had to be taken off in order to shorten the shoulders and be sewn back in but honestly, you can't even tell -- it looks brand new! Just picked up my leather pants and I am pleased to report they were tailored flawlessly. I took them to two other alteration locations in West LA and Bev Hills and one gave me an astronomical price quote and the other didn't want to touch leather. I didn't want to give up on these pants but they became baggy and they needed to be taken in throughout. Gary did a fine job, as if they now look awesome, like they were sewn onto my body.
