I've had two leather jackets altered by these guys. One of them was a fashion leather jacket that did amazing work with (the leather was very thin, like tissue, and the work they did was nearly invisible). Another jacket was a motorcycle leather jacket where safety was a concern. They were able to dart the arm pit area so that it would be a little easier to maneuver in. They used top quality pieces that actually matched the jacket. They're a lot closer and more convenient than another motorcycle leather repair shop I go to a lot. When I opened my umbrella hastily in a sudden downpour the spokes ripped large splits in the suede sleeves of the vintage Brazilian suede and leather jacket I bought in the late 70's. Searching on line for a leather repair place, the glowing Yelp reviews persuaded me I'd be crazy not to bring my treasured jacket to Gary Barini. Impressed by his serious manner, explicit statement that he wouldn't take on a piece of work unless he felt he could do a good job and by his attentive appraisal of the task at hand, I paid the requested deposit and left the jacket with him. I brought in a sheepskin shearling jacket to be resized. It took a few weeks, but you have to wait for quality. The fit is perfect and the craftsmanship is incredible. The owner is a pro. A bit cocky and self-congratulatory, but he delivers really good work so can't really fault him for that. He'll walk you through what he plans to do and explain how it works, but don't question his ability. Hope he stays open for many years to come because if I need leather work, I really don't know who else is able to deliver the way he does. I have a leather jacket that I bought around 12 years ago. It was starting to look so worn out because it needed to be re-dyed. I took it in to Barini, and Gary Barin, the owner, took a look at it and told me that he could make it look brand new. He was true to his word. When I went to pick up my jacket, it was perfect. You would have thought that it was brand new. He did a beautiful job and was such a pleasure to deal with. Gary has the most beautiful purses, belts, wallets, etc., quite a few that he hand makes, and they are beautiful. One jacket had a zipper along each sleeve while the other one had a button cuff on each sleeves. It took at least 2 months before I can see these jackets again. So I had to get the sleeve lining of my leather jacket fixed since the threading came undone. I did a quick search and found Barini Leather. Did a quick check on yelp and saw that they had 5 stars all around. And after getting my jacket back, it's rightfully deserved. The owner knew what he was doing. He was straight forward & told me what he needed to do...Remove the outer sleeve, fix the lining, then reattach the sleeve. It was a little more involved than I thought. Anyway, the repair looked awesome. You couldn't even tell that the outer sleeve was removed. As if by magic the thread went thru all the original threading holes. Talk about detail oriented. I purchased a beautiful horsehide jacket made in the 1940's. This is an incredible, one of a kind piece, but unfortunately showed every bit of its history. So, I wanted to find a leather specialist to carefully restore it to its former glory. Well, I quickly found that every tailor in LA says they do leather alterations, but very few emphasize leather or restoration. Barini Leather and the owner Gary's reviews for leather garment restoration stood out. They impressed me so much, I suffered the traffic and drove out from Santa Monica. I met with Gary, showed him the jacket and told him that I'd like him to restore it. He carefully explained all of the work that would be necessary and promised that he would do his best but "I am not Superman". He went on to say they were very busy and it would take several weeks. I returned to his shop about six weeks later for my jacket. It looked incredible! They had repaired and reinforced the stitching on almost the entire jacket, replaced the lining, re-stitched original labels and cleaned and re-conditioned the beautiful horsehide. An excellent experience. I recommend Barini Leather without any hesitation! Relying on other Yelp reviews, I visited Barini Leather to have my favorite leather satchel day bag repaired. The bag originally cost about $200 so I wasn't sure if it was worth fixing. Gary was very straight with me, pointing out where there were problems (more than I had realized). Where the strap attached to the bag, the connections were ripping. The color was faded, with many scratches. The inside lining was torn along most of the edges. My favorite bag was a mess. He quoted me a fair price for the repair, cleaning and polish. Less than the cost of the bag, which I could see wasn't going to last much longer. I paid half up front. He asked for two weeks to do the job, noting that the bag needed to dry after the cleaning and the polish. He finished it in about a week, even fixing brilliantly, at no charge, some problems we had not discussed (he reinforced strongly, inside the bag, the connections of the strap to the bag). The new polish made the bag look brand new. Basically, he made the bag the way it should have been made in the first place! If you have anything made of leather that you love but aren't happy with due to wear and tear, or size, or damage, bring it to Barini! read more
