Unfortunately, our experience at Barista Del Barrio was disappointing, mainly because of how a simple issue with our order was handled. The line was really long, so we used the iPad they provide to place our order. We selected a matcha, but the iPad never gave us the option to choose between hot or iced. We assumed it would come iced, which is our mistake for assuming. When our order came out, the matcha was hot. We went inside and politely asked if there is any chance we could get it iced instead since there was no option on the iPad. The owner herself took the drink and remade it, which we appreciated, but her attitude toward us after was unnecessary. She told us that next time we should order directly with them because we just "wasted their cups" and so on. We apologized again and explained that we would have selected iced if the iPad had actually given us that option, but she didn't really acknowledge what we were saying. What made the experience more disappointing is that I work in coffee myself, so I understand what it's like when things get busy. I chose Barista Del Barrio out of all the coffee shops in the area specifically because I'm Latino and wanted to support a Latino-owned business. I even tipped when I placed the order on the iPad, so I was disappointed with how we were treated over something as simple as an ordering-system issue. read more

Hubby and I both ordered a grilled breakfast burrito that comes with cheese, potato, egg and beans and added meat to them. I also added green chile to mine and he added guacamole. The line was probably 10 or more people long when we showed up, but they did a good job on producing orders quickly so we weren't waiting too long. We also ordered a soft sourdough cinnamon roll with brown sugar frosting, because, why not? Used to come here years ago (2019-2020) when working downtown in an office and fell in love then with this place. Had not been in over 6 years when I went today to this awesome place. The line was the usual long line and with my dog, was much better as people talk and pet dogs in line and it went fairly fast. The line was in shade with the nearby tree so it made it that much better. The ambiance is the misters around that are welcomed by all, the pretty tree and greenery and fencing and signage they have used to decorate this small outdoor place so well. The shaded and covered tables outside had various chairs and enough space for people to rotate in and out- esp with our dogs that love the cool brick to lie on:) Now, the absolute best part is the food- still amazingly worth waiting for and delicious!! I got the burrito( basic has potato, egg, beans , cheese) and the protein I added was bacon and extra was guac. Also got the 16oz Dirty Chai. My friend came for first time and was surprised to open her order and find two burritos- I knew and wanted to see her face- she loved the taste and the fact she had lunch or dinner later as one truly is so full of deliciousness- it fills you up! THE FOOD - I ordered the breakfast burrito and it comes with 2 medium-ish sized burritos -I don't like pinto beans and they have no other options so I got without beans. -I ordered with bacon and did not like the consistency, it was hard and kind of burnt pieces. I would opt for ham or chorizo next time -loved the sauces it came with -my favorite part was the tortilla...I rank these as best tortillas of the trip THE DRINKS -they offer a wide variety of house made flavors, I had a difficult time deciding! -I opted for dulce de leche "less sweet" and found it was still sweet but not too overpowering for my taste. I recommend less sweet if you're not a sugar bomb drink person! THE SERVICE -very kind, they answered all my questions (about beans and sugar mostly) -note that it gets very busy so expect to wait in line! We were there about 20 min after opening and it was a short wait but the line got loonngggg quick! THE ATMOSPHERE -outdoor only seating which is generally fine in AZ, I was here during the very rare occasions it rained so the seats were wet from the night before -cool art/murals I would definitely go back! Located near Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and the Blind, the heart of the Deaf community in Tucson, this area already feels like home to me so finding a spot like this makes it even better. Their breakfast burritos are unreal because you can customize almost everything for the same price unless you add extra meat. I got the chorizo burrito with a red tamale inside and WOW... they served it as two smaller burritos and I honestly think it's one of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. I am going to have to lower my review a star solely due to consistently poor customer service and delivery. My grading team has tried ordering delivery from this location multiple times and have always faced issues. Two out of three times we were missing burritos and each time we received only half the burritos with written labels so we couldn't tell the orders apart. Any attempt to call this location goes straight to voicemail. It is extremely frustrating having to drive somewhere to have your delivery order fixed. We will no longer be ordering barista for delivery. I will continue to come order in person because the burritos are delicious, but I've learned my lesson. read more

The vibe here is so pleasant and mellow. The over-the-top refreshing outdoor misters could put out a fire. All this is important because lines are a consistent thing here. I almost never order flavored coffees or specialty drinks. Here, though, the horchesso hot latte was balanced and not syrupy or artificial. The croissant with egg and cheese was good but sort of smooshed in the foil wrapping. It wasn't a deal breaker because it was good. Since I arrived by bicycle, this was more than enough food. I packed the bean and cheese burrito on my bike to snack on later after more riding. It was fresh and filling. I don't know that I've seen regular lines at any business in Tucson, especially one that has been open for some years. That Barista del Barrio has them obviously says a lot. read more

Bookmarked this place before we came to visit so on our way from the west side of the national park over to the east we decided to stop for coffee and a breakfast burrito. I will say, the line was loooong (which was no surprise having read reviews). It did take quite a while to get through the line and get our order. That said, we really enjoyed our coffee and burrito! My wife got the iced peanut butter latte and I got the iced horchata latte, and we shared a sausage burrito with guacamole. The red salsa was excellent. It felt like coming home! What a sweet spot for authentic Mexican burritos. We ordered the Machaca with everything and the chicken tinga with everything. The tortillas felt like abuela just made them and the ratio of ingredients to tortilla was perfect. The flavor felt like "homemade with love". If you grew up eating machaca burritos, you'd understand. We ordered an Americano coffee and an Horchata latte no sweetener. They were both perfect!! Service was prompt and line moved quickly. This place came up first on my "breakfast burrito Tucson" Google search and had an impressive 4.8 rating. Pulling up, it looks like a little coffee window but there was a line outside, which IMO is a good sign. I ordered the build your own grilled burrito with machaca and a mexican chocolate latte. Both burritos did not survive my hunger and I especially liked the red sauce with it! Normally I am a green sauce gal but their red sauce stood out. Service was also friendly and quick. This near west side spot is home to many long standing restaurants that know the value of delicious reasonably priced food served with love in a historic neighborhood. Breakfast burritos (2) or bowls are hot off the grill, wrapped for takeaway or outdoor covered seating.
