Came into Bark Avenue after researching online and finding that they carry the brand of dog food our dog likes. They also sell it in the 40lb bags. This store is bright and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a wide variety of dog food, treats, toys and other accessories. The cashier was friendly and engaging, and was rather amused that we were buying a 40lb bag of food for an 8 pound mini dachshund. Well, this way we only have to buy a bag of food every 6-8 months. While we were there we looked for a new leash, but found out they did not have a retractable leash in extra small. Oh well. No big deal. We will definitely be back for our dog needs. read more

Their good reviews have gone to their heads, yes. I used to feel a friendliness with their staff, and now they just walk around you like you dont exist. Good reviews can come, and they can also slip through your fingers! Ther prices are very high, you can find the same brands online for less, but I do appreciate the variety they carry. I only go in now if I am not getting my online shipment quick enough from a new store I order from. Their boarding didn't impress me at all, high prices, uncaring staff, my dog was in a cage for many many hours and came home with kennel cough, thats why I now use my pet sitter! I called Bark Avenue Pet Supply about two weeks ago because I was on the hunt for a specific dog food for my super picky dog. The manufacturer of the dog food had incorrectly listed them as a retailer (I think out of date info). The lady, and I apologize that I cannot remember her name - I think Elizabeth, was so wonderful on the phone. She said they no longer carried the brand but they did have similar foods and I was welcome to come in an browse their selection. I decided to make the jaunt and check it out. When I arrived at the store the shopkeeper remembered our earlier conversation and lead me to the area that had similar foods. She listened to my doggie food problems and recommended a few and had some interesting insights. I walked out of the store that day with several samples and I bought a few small bags of foods as well. After my dog decided which one he liked, I returned to buy a larger bag. Their prices did not seem out of line to me either. This store is nice and I will definitely be back. It was clean, offered a great selection of GOOD food (lots of raw too), and even offered some training classes. I need to stop by when I have more time to just shop as I even saw some fun toys. read more

Best food selection by far. They only carry high end food that is good for your pet. Very knowledgeable staff that care. They also hold pet health seminars and other great services. I love this place and would love to be able to live close enough to purchase all of my dog's food there. My mom and I found Bark Avenue when I was in town earlier this year. One of the things I love most about it is that the staff is so well educated on pet nutrition and particularly, the contents and benefits of the ingredients in the products they sell. My poor little one is a 3 year old Shih Tzu who has had itchy skin all her life. Rick took a significant amount of time out of his day working with me to help me figure out what nutrition would be best for her. We aren't 100% just yet, but I am optimistic we are on the right path because things seem to have improved. I still live on the east coast but I know my mom buys her dogs' food there. It is nice for me that she still speaks to the staff because I am able to learn things from her about the latest and greatest. One of the benefits of shopping at Bark Avenue is that they have quite a few samples so if you have a finicky dog or a dog with sensitivities, you can try out the food before you buy it. This has been very, very helpful for me as it appears my dog probably has allergies and I have been able to narrow down a few items that cause her trouble without spending an arm and a leg. This is by far our favorite pet store. Our furbaby loves his all natural food from here. He could not tolerate the colors and dyes of other foods, just too hard on his GI tract. I am always grateful for the samples they give us and the friendly advice as well. read more

Bark Ave is the best pet store I have been to. I have a male Akita that had parvo as a puppy and because of that he has had some major digestion issues. The staff (especially Rick) is very knowledgeable and has spent a lot of time with me in finding the right fit for my Akita. He now eats every meal and no longer chews hot spots in his fur. You can't put a price on a healthy dog, and even their most expensive food costs less than $3 a day to feed your pet. The staff has experience with their own animals and can use that to find the best items for your pet. Whoever reviewed this and said they don't take time to talk to their customers must be a very lonely person because I have never felt rushed or pushed aside. I have an 18 month old Great Dane who has recently become very finicky during meal times. Sometimes she would eat all or half and other times she would eat nothing (She was on Eagle Pack Large/Giant breed). A few days went by where she wouldn't even touch her food.So off I went to Bark Avenue to hunt down another food that would be good for my giant breed. The women that helped me was SO helpful! She was very knowledgeable about what kind of protein and fat content giant breeds need and gave me some free samples to try out with her to see which she liked best! She even took the time to walk around to the different foods she recommended and fed her Bernese mountain dogs. Im so happy to have this awesome store right around the corner. The staff is so knowledgable and friendly it makes shopping for dog food not feel like a chore. Brady our very allergic cocker spaniel can only eat foods with no grain and no potatoes and without the help of Bark ave who knows how we would have found the ideal food for him. I made my first visit to Bark Avenue Pet Supply today. It was great! All 3 people who were at the store were more than accommodating and spent over an hour with me going over all my options for the best feeding tactics for my special needs kitty. I really appreciate the knowledge and the willingness to help, it's a breath of fresh air considering the pet food store by me is run by young kids who don't seem to care or know anything about the products. Well...I have to say after reading the previous reviews I expected better. After needing to stock up on my dogs food I picked a dog store off yelp and headed out. When we pulled up it looked nice enough nothing fancy but nothing bad either. once in the store it was pretty great, lots of food, exercise equipment for dogs, toys, and even some therapy items. That being said even after talking with the attended I have to say the customer service here needs an overall change. While they were nice enough sometimes that's not enough, as someone who goes to new pet store almost weekly I need something major to really get me interested in a store. Unfortunately while this is one of the limited places in Phoenix that carries by dogs food I probably wont be back, if all your looking for is a place to come and stop in and leave that's fine, I want a place that I can talk to the people and get a feel for different products, while not feeling put off. It may have been an off day and I do love the idea of offering free seminas so I might just go back, if I do I will write an updated review. read more

I love Bark Avenue so much! It is definitely expensive though and a lot of things I would love to get here are out of my price range, so it gets 4 stars instead of 5. They have ever flavor of Primal dog food (best dog food ever! but again, pricey) in all different sizes too. They have meaty bones and a lot of other high quality raw meat dog food options as well (one of the few places around the valley that do). They carry a lot of specialty items you won't find at Petsmart, PetCo, etc and the people who work there are usually very knowledgeable and friendly. They do close pretty early (6pm on M&F, 5pm on Saturday and 7pm Tues-Thurs) usually right around the time I realize I am out of dog food ;) so do be careful of that. Although it may not become a regular stop because of the price of most items I definitely recommend stopping in to check it out & grabbing a special treat or two for your pets! read more

I have an cat named Lucy and have shopped at Bark Avenue Pet Supply for 6 years. The people are all friendly and knowledgeable and take time to help with decisions. We just adopted a wonderful stray dog named Max. I brought him in and they assisted with his dietary and toy needs. Update 5 years later, still trekking to Mesa to shop at the best pet store in the valley. This shop has a more comprehensive variety of pet products, supplements, foods, and toys than anyone else in the Valley. Great selection of raw diets, as well. I drive here from Central Phoenix! Additionally, they regularly offer pet wellness seminars with topics such as food, dental health, physical therapy, massage and training. I recommend Bark Avenue to everyone. read more

Hello... so where to begin without causing a "snoozer". Ok - so I have had parakeets and cockatiels for over 20+ years. They are so happy and enjoyable. I had miltiple bad experiences over the years with Avian vets. I only WISH for my sake and all my birds I had known about Dr. Orr MUCH sooner. I so don't ever want her to retire. Please don't retire! :-) Dr. Orr, her office, staff is the only Avian facility I have taken my cockatiels too that my birds demeanor, and lack of fear was clearly visisble. They were calm when we went in, calm when we were in the exam room, and even clmer when she came in and they met her. You have no idea what that means because my birds were afraid and neurotic and their behavior was clearly uncomfortable, they didn't wnat to be there. I have a cockatiel that either may have had a stroke or (because he is 22+ now) and I witnessed his last flight (a shocker) because he glided but the next time pretty much fell out of the air to the carpet. Heartwrenching. I can't begin to explain, my cockatiels nervousness when I have frequested other (not many around) Avian clinics or offices, not to mention I would get knots driving to many of these others. I didn't go to anyone this time but a refferral to Dr. Orr. What a difference in atmosphere and care. She treated my 23 year old cockatiel like it was her baby.. so gentle. My bird LOVED her. No hesitation like other places. Also, they always require or guilt you into "insisting" they HAVE to do elaborate full expensive before anything. While Dr. Orr most certainly will convey tests if needed, what impressed me most is her experience with the birds and their owners. There is no bullying a patient's owner into MUST do all these elaborate exams.. she sincerely begins with listening and observing and handled my cockatiels so well and gentle, they LOVED her. I brought my old one and his young girlfriend. It was almost like they sensed her true love for them and gnetle spirit, their life and comfort, and was not into guilting me into a particular route of treatment. Sometimes the best treatment is NONE. My cockatiel is happy, doing well, and even though he can't fly, his mate and he explore and play ground bound. Listen, I can't begin to explain that though my birds was examined, what Dr. Orr is unique. She listened and watched my behavior kindly and what was in my heart and my comfort level. She did give the two best possibilities given my birds age, as to what might or probably happened and the likelyhood of possible outcomes and possible time frames what to watch for. A slow recovery, and is exactly what has occured. My bird actually enjoyed the visit. My SKIDDISH female Cocktiel amazed me that she didn't mind being handled too much by Dr. Orr, and I felt so at ease with the Dr. I pray she can and will make an effort if she is ready to leave, to find and groom someone that is like her and not just another Avian scientist viewing my birds as specimens of science forcing me and making me feel bad when I just can't give another medication to my bird because it was making them sicker and not helping at all. It was the most aweful experience. Believe me it happens. views and takes the owner and the bird into consideration, and you can feel comfortable expressing your heart and concern, if not wanting to move forward with any plan at that moment... and doesn't bully you into believing doing is not ok. I can't tell you how many times and no chair side manner just a business to many Avian vets. They say they love them. but they behave like lab scientists. There is something so uniquely warm and genuine that can't be taught. The birds will miss her someday. I am sorry for the long review.. but I have been through 20+ years of discontent at one time or another excpt with Dr. Orr. God Bless you in every way you need... read more
