Long story short, Benji did GREAT and all thanks to HPM! Firstly, as a commuting worker, the chauffeur service was amazing. They gave me a window for pick up and drop off a week in advance and were perfectly on time. You can tell that they really love their dogs upon their greeting and departure. Second, Benji loved having a huge yard to run and play in. I got a picture the first day (attached) and a video the next of him playing! It really put my nerves at ease. Another person said there dog was so upset it had cage wire stuck its mouth from trying to get out of the small cage it was in. They think they are the best and they suck! My dog was a nervous wreck there and is so calm otherwise. Stay away from there, I feel so bad for the dogs, they look so sad. The police men were kind to their dogs when they came in, but that's it.

I'm kind of annoyed with their trainers however. When I first met Kaitlyn the trainer, she explained that Tops offers different training options for clients: board and train, day training, group classes, private lessons, etc. But after I took her beginning class, she absolutely insisted that Pumpkin has to do the board and train program. No way. I am not dumping my dog there for 3 or 4 weeks. Part of the problem is that some of the training methods there can be pretty harsh, which makes me wonder what might be happening to my dog when I am not there to watch and participate in his training program. Another problem there is the trainers at Tops act like they invented prong collars. They did not. MANY TRAINERS use prong collars. I currently train with Bill Balatsos in Palatine, IL. He recommends prong collars for most dogs. So does Jeff Hackanson, the head trainer at Dog Style Inc in Vernon Hills. The trainers at Lakeshore K9 in Highland Park also recommend prong collars. Tops didn't invent the prong collar. A lot of different trainers use them. If you want to learn how to correct bad behavior with a prong collar, Tops isn't your only option. There are other options, and they won't shove their board and train programs down your throat.

My senior dog can't take epic grooming sessions, and her hair was choppy and uneven after her last groom. Her ears and tail had been weirdly shaved, and I wasn't sure we'd be able to make her look normal again during her lifetime. The staff at Rover's is friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. The groomer we saw today has been grooming for 18 years, and had my sweet pup groomed in 45 minutes--and it's the best cut she's had in years. She did what she could to round out her ears, and to help set her up with a cut she can grow back into and look like herself again. My dog is fluffy, soft, adorable, and HAPPY! As a side note, all of the groomers there today were being so warm and friendly with the dogs in their care. I even saw one groomer sitting on the floor keeping a dog company while it waited for its owner. We will be going to Rover's for our grooming from now on!!

It was remarkable how well this dog responded to his owner and how confident both dog and owner were. We asked Stu if he would work with us while we were in town for a few weeks and he agreed. Stu has been a complete game-changer for our German Shepherd, Nova. We all know taking the time to practice and train each day can be tough- which was honestly what my husband and I struggled with most- but Stu holds you accountable. He consistently follows up to see what's working and what needs improvement. Each session, he challenges both you and your dog in real-life scenarios (trains, sirens, bells, whistles, grooming tools, skateboarders, kids baseball/football games, strollers, men with hats, kids with backpacks- YOU NAME IT!) which has made all the difference. He also brings his own dog to training sessions from day one--something we'd never experienced before. Because Nova was extremely reactive to other dogs, having a calm, well-trained dog present right off the bat was crucial. It allowed her to learn how to stay composed and focused in a controlled environment, and the progress we saw from this alone was incredible. In addition to having his dog present in every session, he also offers group classes most Sundays. This gives us the chance to work in close proximity to multiple dogs and put our training into real practice. This consistent exposure has been essential for Nova's progress--and is truly an opportunity you won't find elsewhere. Stu doesn't rely on treat training like so many others. He focuses on helping you build respect with your dog, which truly is the only way to achieve long-lasting results. The transformation we've seen is unbelievable. Before working with Stu, my confidence walking our high-energy German Shepherd was shaky at best. The second another dog came into sight, panic kicked in. Now, I can walk her calmly (sometimes even with a stroller!) and feel totally at ease, knowing she won't pull me into traffic or react to other dogs. I normally work from home, but I do have to travel a few times a month for work. When I do have to travel, I don't want the dogs to be stuck in the house all day without being let out to relieve themselves or get some fresh air, so I have someone from Candy's (often Candy herself) come to my house a couple of times during the day for nice pet visits. Candy often sends me pictures of the dogs while she is there via text messaging, and I know for a fact that she actually gets on the floor with them to give them love and attention because I can tell from the angle on the pictures. I'm extremely picky about the care of my pets, probably to the point of obsession, but I really trust Candy's team to take great care of my "kids" when I can't.
