We connected quickly & easily, & the video quality was so good it was just like he was sitting here on my sofa!!! He really listened to my issues, asked a lot of questions, & then gave me the solutions I needed... He watched me trying out his instructions & if I needed help to get it right he would demonstrate for me with the help of his own dog - who is also the most perfectly behaved doggy I have ever seen!! I've had 'normal' sessions with local trainers & I can honestly say that the quality of service was not lessened by using skype, in fact when a normal session ends the trainer leaves, where as Jeff let me go way over time & didn't even look at his watch once!!! Jeff made me feel like he was genuinely interested in helping us, & even now still enquires about the progress we're making... I looked up Jeff's website (www.trainmydog.com) and was very impressed by what I saw, so I sent him a note explaining our situation and asking for his pricing information. He immediately arranged a phone call with me, so we could discuss my needs in more detail. With our first conversation I was impressed by how he listened while I explained different situations that pertained to our pup - then asked pertinent questions to help him understand the situation better. We talked for approx 30 minutes about what he could and could not do for us. (Our dog is a 'herder' by nature. I was hoping to break him of this habit but Jeff was very upfront in letting me know that this habit could not be broken and anyone who said they could break it was lying to us. I found it refreshing that he was honest and told me up front. He also told me that while it can't be broken, there are countermeasures that we can take to help control the situation.) I thought his prices were VERY reasonable (especially given that he was going to come to our house!) and LOVED that he has a "no-contract obligation" meaning he could come out once and we would never have to bring him back, if we didn't like what he did in the first session. After discussing everything with him, Jeff estimated that he would need no more than 3-4, 1-hour sessions with us (but again, we were not committed to anything past the first session.) We agreed! On the day of our first session, Jeff showed up on time and began immediately getting to know our dog. We talked through some things, to start, and then the training began. Jeff had recommended a prong collar and a non-retractable leash, when we spoke on the phone - so I had gone out and bought those things in advanced. However, he also came prepared with items would could have bought from him, had we not already purchased them (which was great!) I was nervous about using the prong collar (thought it looked more like a torture collar) so Jeff took time to explain how it works - why it's not inhumane - and also showed us how to size it and put it on properly so we weren't hurting our dog. Have to admit that the difference is like NIGHT and DAY when our dog is using that collar!! I'm a BIG believer, now! Jeff worked with our dog for approx 1.5 hours. He gave us tips and "homework" on things that we would need to continue working on, after he left. It has been only 6 days since Jeff was at our house and we're already seeing several changes in the behavior of our dog! We are THRILLED with the work we did with Jeff and would highly recommend his services!

I boarded my dog here for a long weekend, and unfortunately, he contracted a terrible case of kennel cough. That was bad enough, but the owner's (David Jenner's) response was the real issue--shockingly rude and dismissive. On top of that, the place has a terrible smell and just doesn't seem hygienic at all. I wouldn't risk coming back again.

When arrived they wanted to use ropes to lift him with due to so badly soiled. So we supplied our own blanket and carried him to car. He was in obvious pain, soiled, bleeding from mouth. He was immediately taken to animal hospital and advised had to be put down for fractured back and kidney issues. When asked for an explanation Randa immediately sent a refund saying upon my request, which was just for explanation. When followed up was told I can't sue because I signed a waiver, that it was my fault for boarding an older dog and not boarded before. I never made any accusations or asked for anything but an explanation. I'm so devastated I left my pet/family member in their care.

Five stars all the way!…read more We were babysitting our daughter's rescue dog, Ellie, while daughter and s-i-l went on vacation. They had recently moved to the Chicago area. We wanted Ellie to become comfortable at Bark University so the kids would have a safe, reliable place to leave her occasionally with their busy schedules. This place is filled with people who genuinely care about dogs--from Candy, the owner, to Dahlia and the rest of the wonderful team. Ellie was understandably scared at first. She had been a street dog and had difficult experiences in her past. The staff took their time introducing her to different dogs, carefully figuring out which personalities she was most comfortable with. I was so impressed by the amount of love, patience, care, and attention they gave her. Ellie did incredibly well. What surprised us even more was the difference we began noticing outside of daycare. Even though she was only going once a week for a few hours, she became noticeably calmer when seeing other dogs on our walks. Normally, she would bark at them, but she has been doing so much better. The prices are also extremely reasonable--$30 for a half day and $40 for a full day. I especially love that on longer days they feed the dogs and have the dogs take a one-hour nap/rest break from 12-1. Bark University is truly a gem of a place.

Note: her dog was ferrel for a very long time so he can be a bit difficult to handle at times. That was not a problem with her dog at that location. They treated my daughter and dog very well.

Very disappointing and alarming experience with Phil, the trainer/owner. I brought my 15-month-old Samoyed puppy for his first training session. My puppy is a sweet, friendly, loving dog who gets along with everyone. He is simply young, energetic, and still learning. The most alarming part of the session involved stairs. My puppy has never used stairs because we live in a ranch home, and Phil knew this. Despite my expressing concern, he forced my puppy to the stairs instead of gently leading, took my puppy higher up the stairs and then let go of his leash. My puppy jumped down at least six concrete steps onto a concrete surface and landed awkwardly on his leg. He was clearly frightened and panicking. I also had to tell Phil that he was standing on my puppy's back paw. Phil also knew that my puppy had been dealing with separation anxiety and that we had been actively working on it. When my puppy became excited and barked, Phil placed him alone in a utility/closet area. When my puppy panicked, Phil said, "There is the separation anxiety coming out," and then turned off the light and left him locked in the dark room. I also had concerns about the facility, including the availability and condition of drinking water, slippery flooring, and whether vaccination status was actually being verified for all dogs attending. Based on what I personally witnessed, I was extremely uncomfortable with the handling and training methods and did not feel that my puppy was in the hands of someone I could trust. I will not be returning or continuing training with Phil. MY RESPONSE TO PHIL' S RESPONSE: His response does not address the specific conduct I described or the reason I will never bring my puppy back to this facility. He explains his "general" approach to stairs, but that is not what happened. He knew my puppy had never used stairs. I expressed my concern. He took him higher up the stairs, and then RELEASED HIS LEASH. My puppy subsequently jumped down at least six concrete steps onto a concrete floor and landed awkwardly on his leg while clearly frightened and panicking. I also had to tell him he was standing on his back paw. Saying that he used this procedure with "countless puppies and dogs" does not change what he did to my puppy. Likewise, his description of his training philosophy does not address the most disturbing part of the session. He knew my PUPPY had separation anxiety and that we had been actively working on it. When he became distressed after being isolated IN A UTILITY CLOSET BY PHIL who thought this was a good way to teach him to stop barking when he was excited, he identified it as his separation anxiety and then TURNED OFF THE LIGHT AND LEFT HIM LOCKED IN A DARK UTILITY ROOM WHILE HE WAS PANICKING AND AFRAID. That is exactly what I witnessed and is completely inconsistent with how I expect ANY puppy or dog with known separation anxiety or not to be handled. OUTRAGEOUS AND CRUEL! Regarding water and vaccinations, my review accurately described my personal observations and concerns at the facility and what I was and was not asked to provide. THERE WAS NO FRESH WATER FOR THE DOGS AND NO VACCINATION RECORDS WERE CHECKED OR VERIFIED. This review is not about whether he uses choke collars, e-collars, pinch collars, yelling, or leash corrections. I did not accuse him of using those things. The issue is POOR JUDGEMENT, handling, and how Phil responded to a young, inexperienced dog who was frightened and whose known anxiety had been disclosed to him in advance. He refunded my payment, but a refund DOES NOT CHANGE what occurred during the session or my resulting loss of confidence in his ability to safely handle ANY PUPPY OR DOG. I stand by my review. I witnessed what I described, I made my concerns clear at the time, and based on that experience, I chose not to return.

I have a very special little dog who…read moreneeds a lot of training and attention to help overcome her behavioral challenges and they not only understood what to do immediately, we've been making steady progress since we first met everyone. The convenient Wheaton location of the facility is great for daycare and they also allow for half-day daycare too. Very flexible scheduling. When I pick my dog up, I can tell that she's received personalized attention from the staff and that she has been well cared for. Often she's been able to work one-on-one with a staff member for nearly all of her half-day session. We also attend the group classes which are incredibly unique and let my dog build up practice interacting with other dogs in a way that reinforce new, good behaviors. My neighbors are thrilled with the progress almost as much as I am - my dog no longer automatically barks at everyone outside now and is able to make new friends. The in home training we did originally was incredibly valuable to get us started on the right foot. We need to do that again very soon! Is it the least expensive daycare and/or training in the area? No. But it is ABSOLUTELY worth it. When I leave my dog in the care of The Canine's Voice I know that she's going to be safe, loved, and will learn a few things while she's there. The classes are incredibly valuable too. The results speak for themselves.
