Popped in for a couple apps and a few drinks at the bae before a show at the Shelburne Museum. The drinks were good and the food was goo, but not great. Our bartender was very nice and let me charge my phone behind the bar when she overheard me realizing my phone was going to die. Nice place and conveniently very close to the music venue. Ambiance was not at all what we expected. Pretty dated and homespun vibe to the place. We had a friendly and attentive server but we were one of only a few tables in the place. The pulled pork sandwich was really tasty with big thick chunks of pork. They smoke the meat themselves. The tomato bisque was boldly flavored and super creamy. The pastrami poutine was interesting. Felt like I had to try it because of the mix of ingredients. The pickle flavor overwhelmed the other elements. The pastrami was awfully dry. At the end of the meal the server brought some dark chocolate pretzel bark that was fantastic. That should be on the dessert menu! read more

Definitely had a "locals love" vibe...we were there for burger night and it seemed several patrons made this a part of their weekly routine. However, the burger wasn't cooked to order, we added mushrooms and Swiss, and there were very few mushrooms, and the accompanying fries were a small portion. I dug through the black pile and removed layers of charcoal to find a few green centers of the brussel sprouts. However, the cooking choice, prevented anything edible to be found. If this type of visually disturbing product that is served, what else do they present? Items from the floor or ones out dated? Do they pick the bugs and hair off or are these served as well. My food was delicious and our server, Eve, was totally on top of her game. The atmosphere is cozy, but spacious enough that you don't feel like you are on top of other diners. One note: they do close at 8 pm, even on Fridays, so don't plan to dine late. We got up from our table at 8:30 and noticed that the place was empty! First time and stopped on our way back from VT to NY. Happened through the town on Rt.#7 and decided to give it a try. Location and parking easy access. Loved the homey decor. Great service provided by Eve. She went out of her way to make sure our selections were recommended and appropriate for one quest that had dietary limitations. Everything was tasty from appetizers of soup of day (curry pumpkin) to fried Brussels (my fave). Dinners for the four of us consisted of pulled pork sandwich, burger, seafood curry and salmon salad. Only feedback received other than delish was pulled pork a bit spicy for pulled pork and Kitchen didn't have any gluten free rolls. While the food is amazing, the people there go above and beyond to ensure that their guests are taken care of. This evening summer local produce was the star of the menu from their gazpacho soup, pork tenderloin with a blueberry hoisin sauce and the most delightful blueberry crisp for dessert. It was our first time eating at BarkEaters, but we would definitely go back! Pros: -As of now they take reservations and do take-out... the in-house seating still abided by the 6-foot distance, so we felt comfortable eating without our masks on -The atmosphere felt clean and well kept -The waitstaff was friendly, respectful and polite -The signature cocktails were great -The appetizers and entrees were delicious (we got the fried cheese curds to start, I got the lobster Mac and cheese, my fiancé got the steak frites) Cons: -The atmosphere was clean, but a little outdated -The temperature in the restaurant was WARM... they even had an indoor fireplace going (in April) -Their online menu was different than the menu offered in-house (not a big deal, but a bummer if you had your heart set on a certain dish and when you get to the restaurant it isn't being offered) -The host began clearing plates before everyone at the table had finished their meals (I personally find this rude and makes the guests still eating feel rushed). I finished my meal first and my plate was cleared very soon after, several minutes later my fiancé had just put the last bite of steak in his mouth (was still chewing and there were still fries and vegetables on his plate) and the host came over and asked if she could clear his plate. As said, I would definitely go back because the food was excellent and our server was friendly and very polite... I would just recommend allowing all guests at the table to finish their meals before clearing plates read more

Great restaurant in Shelburne. The atmosphere is relaxed and decor is like rustic ski lodge / old england Inn. The menu has great options from farm to table fine dining to small plates & appetizers, as well regular pub fare of burgers and sandwiches. Tonight we had Jamaican Jerk Salmon with mango salsa and coconut rice: perfectly prepared and presented and a delight for the taste buds. The space and location are great if you are visiting the farm or museum in Shelburne. The food was eclectic and offered a little bit of everything. Fun twists on classics. Last minute decision to drop in here and we ended up with a good meal. I had he swordfish special. It had a maple ginger (?) glaze and was very good. Topped with a salsa with tomato, mango, onion. Side of stir fry ramen noodles with carrot, onion. My husband had the filet mignon and was happy with it. The calamari app was quite good. The sauces are not on the side but under the calamari. Service was ok. I had to ask for my water to be refilled multiple times. A pet peeve of mine. I don't like to have to ask for this. I am always super impressed when the wait staff are on top of that. Since I was drinking water and everyone. Else at the table was Gavin drinks. It was noisy in there but it is a casual environment, so not surprising and to be expected. Came here on a Saturday evening and got the mussels for my appetizer and the walnut and pear salad with salmon. The two together made a good, filling combination. The place has a nice cozy atmosphere. A decor element I really enjoyed was their use of canoes as shelves near the bar! Since it was Saturday evening, the place was pretty busy so service was ok, but they managed well with the crowd. Overall a good place to visit! read more

Had I been able to give a rating of 4.75 stars I would have. The only reason I did not give this place 5 stars is because we have had a couple dishes there that we found overly salty. But we still have been back a number of times, and everything else that we've had has been delicious. The service is friendly and competent, and their outdoor patio is a hidden gem during COVID-19. It was my first time at any restaurant in Shelburne and my lovely date suggested Barkeaters. It was incredible! Our hostess was Molly and she was fantastic; very attentive. We started with the butternut squash soup, which was probably one of the best butternut squash soups I have ever had, if not the best (sorry mom). It was rich, creamy and smooth. My only suggestion would be to include a couple pieces of crustini to go with it as it was so thick. We split two entrees, the cedar plank salmon and the ravioli of the day (apple, squash, gorgonzola). The salmon was cooked perfectly and was moist. The reduction sauce paired nicely with it and came with a bed of sweet potato, white bean and quinoa hash accompanied with an apple/mango chutney. A little bit of everything in one bite made for a memorable experience! The ravioli was great. Every bite tasted like apple pie! it reminded me of apple pie the day after Thanksgiving when I will take some slices of sharp cheddar cheese and melt it over a slice. The gorgonzola was a nice contrast to the apple and squash filling. I don't know which dish I liked more....they were all so delicious and I couldn't have asked for a better date. My husband and I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally made it in. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. We had a reservation and when we first arrived, the hostess was on the phone literally reading the entire menu off to whoever she was talking to. She completely ignored us, rather than putting the person on hold or directing them to the website, and it was extremely awkward as the waiting space is very small. When we were finally seated, we started off with the calamari. It was extremely greasy, which was a huge turn off. It was also supposed to be served with spicy aioli, but not a hint of spice was detected. I ordered one of the specials for dinner, which was a steak fajita salad. Wow...the steak was shoe leather, completely overcooked and inedible. I honestly cannot believe the chef would send that out. I also realized later that the salad was supposed to have tortilla chips in it, but they were definitely not included. My husband ordered the fish and chips, also extremely greasy and he said it tasted like the oil was rancid. Overall, the only good thing we consumed was beer in a can and the chocolate you are given when your bill comes. Sadly, we will not be returning. read more

Upscale casual with a wonderful menu. I've been many times with family, everyone enjoys the Vermont happy atmosphere.

It was fine, very nice inside, the decor was lovely. The hostess seemed a bit.... frazzled. But then again, it was burger night, apparently. My husband and I didn't know that going in, but we're glad that it was, as the entrees were quite expensive otherwise. We both ordered burgers (and a local beer, as that was part of the special burger night pricing). I asked for Vermont cheddar on mine and either they forgot the cheddar or they gave me the smallest slice of cheese known to man. Tasty burgers, overall. As for the prices on the regular menu, we got out of there for a steal. I'd recommend it I guess. Make a reservation, though. read more

In the middle of a global pandemic, I am so grateful for places like this. I have been nervous to go out, nervous to remove my mask in public, nervous to eat anywhere but my own kitchen. However, when we just couldn't stand the taste of our own cooking anymore, I relented and agreed to go to Barketers. I was not disappointed. The service was covid compliant, friendly and beyond obliging, the atmosphere was fantastic (who doesn't love music with dinner?), and the food was phenomenal. From the Buffalo Chicken appetizer right through the Steak Frites and Lemon Drop dessert, I was impressed. Will be recommending to literally anyone who will listen. read more
