We dropped her off around mid-February, and the staff and Andy on arrival couldn't have been more welcoming. They treated our Shepherd as one of their own. Andy was very open about how he would be training her, and what to expect. During her stay, Andy sent many videos and messages about the progress our girl was making. He showed us what he was doing, how our Shepherd was doing, and overall stayed connected and communicative during her stay. Upon her return, we could see the difference that Andy had made for her. She seemed to be so much more confident and more like a dog. My fiancée and I couldn't be happier with the results that Andy and Camp Opie made for our girl. Not only did he pass on what he taught her to us, he also gave us the tools and training techniques to continue her training journey for our baby to keep making improvements. Now with my new puppy, Nico, also a chocolate Lab, choosing Alicia Pet Care Center again was an easy decision. Dr. Matthew is extremely knowledgeable, but more importantly, he is straightforward and trustworthy which is rare and very valuable. Their extended hours, including full-day Saturdays, make scheduling very convenient. They also offer a drop-off service, which is incredibly helpful when things get busy. She recommends unnecessary procedures while using fear tactics, which is a shame. The backup vet was very incompetent. She recommended the wrong solutions and suggested imaging that cannot detect soft tissue issues. She never asked any history questions, examined the wrong area entirely, and jumped straight to worst case scenarios without justification. She spent only 5 minutes on the consultation and pushed for X-rays when in my dog's case, those weren't even necessary. X-rays are not the right protocol for soft tissue issues. I didn't have a choice as they were the only place open that day. A few days later my dog is completely fine because it wasn't actually that hard to fix. He had full anal glands that just needed to be emptied ... and this vet was pushing for X-rays and bloodwork instead One thing worth mentioning, she was very quick to suggest cancer or tumors without proper justification. What she may not know is that intact male dogs actually have hormonal protection that significantly reduces the risk of certain cancers in that area. A more knowledgeable vet would have considered this before jumping to worst case scenarios. This is basic intact male biology that should be understood before making such alarming suggestions to worried pet owners. That's why I usually just bring my dogs to my regular holistic vets in Irvine and Laguna Beach. To be fair, the regular staff are lovely. The vet tech was excellent, agreed with my decisions, and actually helped. So I do believe their regular vets and staff are much better. This one star is specifically for the backup vet. Please be very careful if they assign you to her.

This was my first time ever boarding my dog. I went away for five days for my sister's wedding and spent nearly $1,000 trusting that he'd be well cared for. The next day after picking him up, he began coughing and vomiting foam. I reached out to the facility right away to ask if anything had happened during his stay, but received no response for days--only after multiple follow-ups requesting to speak with a manager. By that night, my dog was crying while vomiting and struggling to breathe, and I knew something was wrong. I had to rush him to the vet for emergency care. Thankfully, he's now being treated and recovering. I asked the business to please cover my dog's vet expenses at the very least and sent them the bill. They have not confirmed or denied they can offer anything which I find very bizarre. In good faith you should offer a discount or cover SOME of these bills to show you care and are sorry this happened to a new customer. What made this even more upsetting was the lack of accountability and communication from the business. They refused to provide answers in writing and insisted I call them instead--after everything that happened, that felt dismissive and unprofessional. The manager even mentioned his own urgent care visit during the conversation, which was completely irrelevant. I also later learned that their contract includes a waiver stating they aren't responsible if your pet becomes ill under their care. That, combined with how my situation was handled, tells me this facility is not safe or accountable. I also have an autoimmune disorder and weakened immune system and felt chest sickness, sore throat and illness after my dog got sick. All of these medical visits and bills were the last thing I wanted when I got home to my normal responsibilities. Constructive feedback-- if you make pet owners sign off on illness they could incur at your business, educate them on what to do should your pet contract it. Half of the problem is being worried, confused and unprepared to handle the issue at hand. Had I known to get an antibiotic at the occurrence of coughing it would have been less scary. Also, refusing to respond by text if you extend that line to your clients, and demanding they call you to receive any kind of answers about what happened at your business is frankly ridiculous. This was an extremely distressing experience for me and my dog, and I hope other owners consider this before trusting their pets here. Bottom line, if I drop my dog off in healthy condition, I want him in good health when I pick him up or I would not choose or recommend your business.
