I love and have used Barlean's flavored emulsions (i.e., both fish and flax/borage) for several years now. I'm especially fond of the blackberry-flavored flax oil emulsion, but also the peach and mango-flavored fish oil emulsion. Great, cost effective way to get high quality Omega 3 fatty acids into one's diet sans the strong smell and taste of fish. (Flax and borage oil? Both can be equally unpleasant minus any attempt at flavoring agents, natural or otherwise.) I know that a longtime friend who lives in Washington routinely buys all her littleneck and Manila clams fresh from Barlean's, but I (a humble Okie) can only find Barlean's Omega 3 emulsions at Sprouts. On a recent visit I was able to find beautiful frozen Ahi tuna steaks and fresh salmon. Prices are reasonable. Look for the signs when you're driving as the store is easy to miss. read more

This place is solid to snag your fish and crab from. Lots of fresh and frozen options. Been here a few times and I have walked away happy each time except once. The employees were moving some crabs around and it prevented how far I could walk into the store. I just wanted to grab some oyster at the time but I couldn't walk over there. Waited probably 10 min so I peaced without getting anything. I came back a few days later cause I do like the spot. Just felt like I should mention the crab shield. At first I thought we had spent a lot of money on some smoked salmon. Holy Delicousness Batman! When we finally dove into it at our annual Oscar party with the fam (we did buy it for my brother after all) all thoughts of how much we spent flew out the window. The intense flavor captured in the smoke was spot on. And the salmon - as it flaked away from the skin - still had a nice tenderness to it. We will most certainly be looking into getting this down the road. I'm digging through my travel stuff to see if I can locate the brochure I know we brought home. Drove down from Blaine on many recommendations. A little background - I am a private, professional chef. I know product that is good, bad or anywhere in between. As a chef I seek the best quality I can find. On to my visit and experience with this market. When I walked in, there was an odor of fish. Ok, that probably should have warned me, but I attributed the smell to processing. This is not unusual in places like this. When I Enquired as to the provenance of the products I was informed most of what was there at the time was not local, what was local was minimal, and not of the best quality. Neither was the "imported" product. Very definitely overpriced for what one gets. When I asked for sushi grade fish most of what I was shown was fish that at best would be good for fish and chips. Not something I would serve as sushi or sashimi. I generally purchase sushi grade if it's available for the simple reason I want the best for myself and my clients. Even if I cook it, I still want sushi grade. While I did purchase some fish the day before intended use (I changed the menu I was considering in my head at that moment), the next day over half of what I purchased had gone over. I had to throw it out. I dropped a couple of hundred dollars here, only to have the get rid of a large portion ONE day later. Here is what happened, lest anyone think I drove around for a day without minding my product: I did ask for and was provided with ice (in addition to the "blue" ice I brought with me). I placed the fish immediately in an ice chest and drove straight home (about 20-25 Minutes), where the fish was put in the refrigerator and kept there until I was ready. It was not a hot day out. General comments: A lot of frozen fish. Not what I want to see when I walk in to a "fresh" market. If you advertise fresh fish, your fish should be just that: fresh. The above goes for any product advertised as fresh. The persons I dealt with did not seem all that knowledgable in regards to the product and had to keep asking questions of a superior (new employee, maybe?). They were however, very friendly and pleasant. In their favour, they do a decent job with smoked fish, not sure of provenance (aka I don't know if it was done onsite or brought in). A small market section of local canned/packaged goods at inflated prices was also present. Though I usually give any market, restaurant or other food purveyor three (3) chances, I'm not sure I will return here. I understand there is another market by the Lummi Nation. Going to check that out, before I return here. I'd rather not have to run to Whole Paycheck at the last minute again. read more

Great little local fresh fish store. They always have fresh crab, clams and oysters. The fresh fish selection is seasonal but that's the way it should be. They have a great selection of frozen seafood too. We buy all our seafood here. The staff is friendly and helpful. They will clean and fillet your seafood if you ask. Discovered this place while talking to locals. A great hidden gem where one can find Salmons, Dungeness Crab, King Crab, Shrimp, Oysters, Mussels, and more for a decent price. We bought all our ingredients for our seafood bake here and spent less than expected (less than $100 got us a couple of crabs, shrimp, mussels, oysters, and 2 salmon - jack and coho). A little out of the way but well worth the drive. They have fresh shellfish that is checked for freshness and then conveniently packed in ice for the drive home in order to maintain that freshness. I buy all my shellfish from them. read more

We stayed at a timeshare in Birch Bay but visited here a couple of times. First we came to see the fishery. This is not a fish market-- it is a FISHERY!!! They have what ever fresh fish is being processed and a huge selection of fish in the frozen standup cases and a big assortment of fish related items, fish oils, and canned items in a little "store" room.. We checked on prices and asked the employees 1000 questions. They were delightful. My husband asked a distance question and one guy got a map and helped my husband solve his question. All of this goes on while all the employees are VERY busy processing fish. The next time we visited was because our fishing trip fell through due to weather and we wanted to take home fish. Again, the plant was chock full of big industrial tubs full of fish to process but every employee made sure all our questions were answered. We bought a whole salmon-14 lbs. They made filets, vacuum packaged each filet according to the size we wanted - a serving for 2- and packed them all in a airline safe box. We added 10 packages of different smoked and marinaded salmon pieces, and a big 2 lb package of halibut. They packaged it all up with gel packs for travel the next day. Cost $149. We were delighted. By the way, we did send the fish through as checked luggage on Alaska Air. One can not carry on the fish because the gel packs can not go through TSA. The box arrived safe and sound. read more

Fish availability varies on season but their prices are often much less than Haggen and a lot of the seafood is locally-sourced. It's also locally owned and operated by the Barlean family. Stinky! I came to get some fresh seafood and came to the smelly, dirty place with a freezer of seafood! How can you advertise fresh and be all frozen seafood? I was shocked and prices are high! Since we drove all that way I tryed and they claimed the seafood was so good even frozen I bought some but bad idea! The halibut had no flavor, the crab was mostly shell little meat and the tuna was freezer burnt so I was not happy to waste over $70 on unfresh seafood! read more
