We've been ordering from Vital Choice for years and it used to be so good! The last 3 orders of canned Mackerel have tasted so 'off' we couldn't eat them. While they were replaced, one of the replacements was also 'off' tasting to the point of not being able to/wanting to eat them. One order of Salmon was bad as well in a previous order. We never had problems like this prior to VC being sold to a large corporation. What a shame! Searching for a new high quality, ethically sourced business to buy from. read more

After trying to communicate my issues directly to the company (no email available, Feedback link inoperable, no info on contact us other than Live chat with a bot) I will place my review here. I have been a customer of Vital Choice for over 15 years. Ordering online has never been an issue. Recently I have been trying to place an online order & get caught in loop of Review Order, Place Order but it doesn't go thru. The items I usually order were not available. I called customer service. They attempted to verify my personal info- address old, phone number wrong (was correct on website). Then wanted to charge me $20 on a $100 order of 12 small cans of tuna. I am disappointed that a once reliable company appears to have been eaten by the Big Fish & quality on every level has suffered. read more

My experience with orders in Aug and Oct 2024 has been consistently unacceptable customer service. Promises made = promises not kept. Orders made were not delivered and problems not resolved. Multiple calls to customer service (reps and supervisors) resulted in new promises of a new delivery date, approx 5-7 days in the future, that would in turn, not be fulfilled. The Vital Choice brand and buying experience used to be exceptional. Since the sale of the company, their customer experience has dropped to a level of unacceptable. But they use regular milk and cream, pesticide-laden tomatoes, and factory farm gelatin. Used to be great but they sold out to a large corporation. Think customer service is outsourced to another country and it is so awful if not comical. I used to receive product that had 2 year dating on it. Last order had 3 months!! Took me about 6 emails to get customer service to understand what my issue was with that. The exchange was clearly was comical in language and maybe culture. I was told that I could use the product 3 years after the expiration date. The date was 'just a best by date'. I think grocery stores can not sell products past the due date, so not sure how they get away with this. Maybe non US companies sell product and use product 3 years after it expires?? I know we tend to be more wasteful, but at the prices you would think we would not have to use past expiration dates!! Will not be ordering again. read more

I ordered $900 worth of salmon that never arrived, and when I repeatedly called about my order over three months, the call was answered by boiler room employees who gave me lies for three months. Ran into my first serious problem and desperately needed to speak with customer service about sending products to a different address since it did not look like they were going to make the original date. I spent almost two hours on hold before I was disconnected. During the entire hold period I had to listen to endless advertisements for other companies. In the meanwhile I was trying to use the chat function asking for help as well. The customer service person did not seem to speak or understand English very well and after quite some time she told me she had to transfer me to a specialist. I waited for a very long time for someone to come on before giving up on the chat option. This used to be great but the customer service is abysmal!! My delivery was missing most of the order, even though the order was closed as delivered on the website. After 30 min on the phone trying to explain the situation to someone whose english is clearly a second language, i was assured my replacement was on the way. I never had any issues before Harry & David purchased Vital Choice. Now, it's Horrible Customer Service! I placed an order on July 15, 2024 and paid $402.97 with the understanding that my Cases of 7.5 oz cans would arrive approximately 10/17/2024. It's now 11/17/2024 and Vital Choice has not communicated with me at all, even though they have my Phone Number and Email. If I owed them money, I guarantee they would be communicating but I guess it is not important when they already have the money. So, I called them today and the representative says " it's still on Back Order and they do not expect it until October of 2025! Yes, October 2025! When was I going to find out? Had I not called, they would have drug it on forever. How many other people are waiting like me? I got my Refund and kindly asked to be "Removed from any and everything to do with Harry & David". If this is how they do business, I want nothing to do with anything they have. There are other brands that do not take 1 year and 3 months (may be more - they were not sure as to when they would have it, that was a guesstimate. We live with all the talk of AI and Cars that drive themselves but not one can pick up a phone or email a customer to inform them of further delay? I am taking my business elsewhere. read more

It is disappointing to give this low rating. I've ordered several times in years past and the service and quality of product has been excellent. Until now. My product of choice is the box of 4 --1 lb packs of salmon pieces. Order arrived. every one on the 4 packs had a nick in the plastic, exposing the fish to air and dry ice--rendering them useless. Vital Choice sent out a replacement right away--I ate two of the packs, now 3 weeks later I see the last 2 packs have air in the packaging and ice crystals on the fish because they too have cuts in the packaging exposing the fish to air. I'm getting a different fish as a replacement this time but come on . What a horrible waste of salmon. Do better. 2 stars is for customer service and the fish (that I could eat) actually tasted really really good. read more

I called and they said it depends on where it is sourced and they will replace the order with salmon from a different source. Seriously? It never showed, so I called again. I was again assured I would be sent the correct product. That was three weeks ago and I still have not received what I ordered. The customer service is sub standard, they deliver late so you food is thawed and they tell you they cannot refund your order and you have to call another department despite the support number printed on your packing slip. In spite of the super high prices, I have used Vital Choice several times because I swallowed the hype about "wild caught / best quality". They work the snob appeal like experts. I care about my family's health so I don't mind paying more for really quality food but whenever I've used Vital Choice, I end up feeling ripped off. After several orders, I have been disappointed more times than I can count because the quality is not all it is cracked up to be and the prices are way too high. The shipping is a nightmare, the customer service it terrible and the food it not better than you can buy at Costco for a fraction of the cost. The final straw came when I ordered some fish eggs to give as Christmas gifts. The products came late and when they arrived, the fish eggs were still frozen but they were rancid. We had given our gifts before we opened ours and so we didn't actually know until we tried to eat the fish eggs. When we realized that we had given our friends and family EXPENSIVE spoiled fish eggs, we were mortified! It was so downright nasty, that gift recipients told us straight out that they couldn't eat it. I am not a roe novice and I do know what fish eggs are supposed to taste like. I usually love them but these were just plain awful. Since the fish were frozen when they arrived, I have to assume that they were rancid before they were shipped out. When we tried to resolve the situation, we got a great big yawn from Vital Choice. They never made it right but they lost me as a customer. In the summer 2024 I ordered fish and salmon oil. It took a long time to arrive and the fish came eventually but without warning and no updated tracking. The salmon oil came a month late. Aug 2024 I reordered the salmon oil thinking it would take a month to arrive. January 2025 it still hasn't arrived and they changed my estimated arrival at the date for the fourth time. The most recent ETA was February 1, 2025. I just found out that they canceled my order January 1st but did not refund me. They claimed they already did refund me via PayPal. They are trying to keep $125 and that just stinks. I'm getting the runaround from the company. They can't prove have they refunded me. PayPal has no record of any refund from vital choice (or their parent company Harry and David or 1800Flowers) but only the initial charge from 5 months ago. PayPal is now getting the runaround from them. I would not do business with them again. Very shady business dealings. The only reason I am writing this review is because my mother just asked about this company after close to a year back, and I had already forgotten about them, so I had to look up and see the damage and of course I am not surprised by the reviews.  Last year when Vital Choice mentioned that 1 800 Flowers was taking over, I sent them a message and asked WHYYYY? Why ruin your business like that? I already had so many issues with 1 800 Flowers and across their other brands in general, I knew this would be a bad decision and ruin my fish supplier. Why not sell to another fish supplier or give to a COOP? Oh right, because of the money offered and selling themselves out to 1800Flowers. I quickly placed my orders and stocked up on fish from VC before the takeover date, then told them to delete my account and data and that I would never order from them again because of them giving up to 1800 Flowers. I guess my message was received well but nothing came of my warning, regardless it was too late.  They should have done their research on this company which would have taken one 4 second google search or BBB search on how horrible it is. I feel sorry for those who did not know that VC would lose its integrity in this takeover and have experienced poor service since. My wife has been a fan for years, but I think even she is done with this company now. We got a shipment of sea bass the other day and I took two pieces out of the freezer today for dinner. Both were about the size of a deck of cards--while frozen. When defrosted one was fine, but the other turned out to be 1/4" thick, but folded in thirds to make it look thick. Nonetheless I cooked it up, but it turned out to be so tough and rubbery neither of us would eat it. This stuff is expensive, so being gamed by this company doesn't go down well. I ordered Cooper River Salmon which is expensive but delicious. I don't know where the company is getting there salmon now but I venture to say it is not Cooper River. We used to love Vital Choice! We got supplements, fish broths and the frozen foods from them. Since we had done it before, recently tried to order the omega 3 test online (which was a great service that they provided) and realized it didn't exist anymore just like many other products. So we called the customer service to figure out what is going on. They wouldn't tell us that the company was bought out. Instead, they kept saying "I don't know which product you're talking about". When I insisted for them to look up my orders on my customer account, they finally told me that those no longer exist because the company was bought over. Our entire family was using the supplements and food products of the original Vital Choice company for over 20 years and that is why it is very sad to say that we no longer will be buying anything from them as the quality and the vision is completely diminished. I have been a customer of Vital Choice for several years. I ordered $250.00 worth of Salmon and Chilean Sea bass as you all know is very expensive any where you buy it from. I received this order today it was supposed to arrive 2 days ago and when I opened the box it wasn't even cold. The 15lbs of dry ice was gone. I called them because according to their web site they will make it right, they offered to refund the shipping cost which I told them I had already paid for the passport option which gives you free shipping. Then they came up with 20% back. So, I get back $48.50 back from an order of $250.00 which is laughable. I won't be making anymore purchases from this company unless I receive a comparable refund. I have been a customer of Vital Choice in Washington State for many years. I stopped buying online over the pandemic for myriad reasons. I placed an order over the weekend, today I received a notification from FedEx indicating my package is in transit, origin point is HEBRON, OH. I trusted Vital Choice and didn't mind paying more because I knew I was receiving quality FRESH salmon. Shirley over the phone just told me that they have frozen salmon at her facility and they ship it from there, I mentioned it could be sitting there for six months and who would know, her response was "not that long", so five months, one imagines is acceptable to the new Vital Choice. - The new automated chat is awful, robotic responses are never helpful - The new outside sourcing of reps is not helpful, people are unable to understand or respond adequately as they are probably elsewhere without the foggiest idea of what is being discussed. We have tried numerous types of fish at Vital Choice: Salmon, Salmon Burgers, Sole, Haddock, Scallops and Rockfish. And, after enough orders finally realized that none of the fish is fresh, as its caught and then stored in a warehouse - either on the west coast or east coast until it is sold. This could be 6 months, which is why the fish is rarely consistent in taste and quality and on many occasions has that "fishy" smell or arrives with freezer burn because the packaging is not shrink wrapped. Good, fresh fish should NOT smell fishy. Although their refund and replacement policy is stellar, Vital Choice just does not live up to the price point they are charging. The plus I will give them is that at least the fish is not farm raised and their salmon burgers have minimal, organic ingredients and make it a more economical choice for getting some healthy salmon in your diet. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! I have purchased from Vital Choice for years. Loved their products and they had great customer service. And then they joined up with 1-800-Flowers. And it all went to hell! And it did so quickly. I always bought enough to qualify for free shipping. Now if I don't join the Passport program I have to pay for shipping. While scrolling through salmon options I don't need to see the cheap junk from the other vendors. I am looking for salmon, not a cheap wooden box with my name on it. The new site is c**p. I had reward points with Vital Choice. Those are gone. I assume 1-800-Flowers did away with them. Vital Choice had a good thing going. And then they blew it. I am done. Im all done after so many years of being a loyal customer. I was hoping that the last 2 shipments were just a fluke but I now see for sure the deterioration in the company since they were taken over by a corporation. This is my last order. I placed a large shipment for the 20% off sale which arrived completely defrosted. Fedex partly to blame as it took them 5 days to deliver. Customer service is outsourced to a foreign country where the agents dont understand the English language which causes them to put me on hold while they find someone who can understand what I am saying. The replacement order invoice was wrong and the delivery date was wrong. Tried to get that fixed - useless efforts. The replacement order arrived with no dry ice left. Fortunately the fish seemed to still be frozen but 6 salmon pieces were missing. So had to call AGAIN and be put on hold AGAIN. The fish used to be nice uniform pieces; now they are the oddest and weird shapes which I cant serve to guests. read more

Was a long time Customer of Vital Choice until today. Received my order of 12 Salmon filets yesterday. They were not frozen and they were discolored actually looked like they were bruised. The packaging was terrible. First the box was beat to hell because the box was a very low quality cardboard. Then the fish was not frozen. There was one ice pack in the box. The fish touching the pack was cold but the others were completely thawed. Then upon looking at the filets they were terribly discolored. This is actually the second time this has happened since 1-800 Flowers bought this business. VC used to be of the highest quality and I never received fish that was not frozen. Not anymore. Am so disappointed that this once wonderful fish supplier has gone so terribly bad. read more
