I've been coming to Barleycorn's for years and grew up eating here with my family, so it's disappointing to say that my recent visits have gone downhill. My mom and I dined here today and the experience was frustrating from the start. We were seated and initially greeted by one waitress who took our order, but we were quickly handed off to another server who was already clearly overwhelmed with multiple tables. This quick handoff likely contributed to the miscommunication surrounding our incorrect order, which could have been avoided if the original server had not switched us off so abruptly. She seemed far more focused on guests she knew who were seated nearby, while our new server was left juggling several tables on her own. I felt bad for her--she was clearly doing her best without much support. I didn't see a manager on the floor to help address the situation. On top of that, our food came out incorrect and had to be sent back to be fixed. We were also told my child would receive a kids' drink with her meal, which never came. Unfortunately, this has become a pattern--each visit seems to bring poorer service and lower food quality, especially considering the prices. I do enjoy the atmosphere, particularly during the warmer months, but between the inconsistent service and disappointing food, I don't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

My sister-in-law and I went to Barleycorns today. We had an appetizer of potatoes skins. I then had the all American burger with the onion rings very good along with two glasses of beer. My family and I dined here for lunch after touring Northern Kentucky University. I ordered the Chicken Salad Sandwich on a Pretzel Roll with Onion Straws and a salad with Honey Dijon dressing. My husband and son both had a burger. My sandwich was really good, though the bun was a little tough in places. The onion straws were just OK, as some were a little overcooked and others were a little undercooked. The salad and dressing were great! My main complaint was that service was really slow, and we were on a little bit of a time crunch. Our server, however, was extremely courteous and friendly, and she kept the refills coming. Overall, I really enjoyed our visit to Barleycorn's. I hope to have an opportunity to return when we're not in so much of a rush. read more

Ate here for lunch at noon yesterday. Outside was pretty crowded, but we were seated almost immediately. I used to live not far from here, but I can honestly say that I had not eaten here in about 20 years. Wow--what have I been missing? I had several draft beers from a very generous selection, including one that the server suggested. We shared an appetizer of queso with soft pretzels and chips. Wife had chicken tenders for an entree and I had the fish street tacos which I really liked (with a generous serving of fries) Our server was Savannah, and even though she was a new server, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Everything seemed to click here, and even though it's a 35 minute drive for us, we intend to return and try some other menu items. Great place to meet friends. read more

Wife and I visiting Cincy for a ballgame and see some sights. Arrived this evening and decided to go back across the river to Barleycorn's for dinner. It was a great choice. Burk was an excellent server as well as concierge since we don't have one at our hotel. We ordered the grouper fingers, chicken bacon wrap with fries, and some doc wing with hot Buffalo sauce ( it was actually quite hot!). I asked for a flight of their house beers and they were all very good but the Crazy Norse IPA was simply delish, one of the best I've ever had. Overall an excellent experience, highly recommend. We wanted to buy a Tshirt but they did not have any so directed us to the Barleycorn's Brewhouse a few miles away where we bought a T-shirt and a sixer of Crazy Norse. I love going to barleycorns! The food and service is always great. They have plenty of tvs to watch sports games! I would recommend doc style wings if you get a chance to go eat there. The food here is so bland. My husband got the tacos today and he said this tastes like chicken that was just boiled in water and tossed into some rice and I agree. It took a while to receive our food, everything was cold like it had been sitting for a while and my husband received his beer at the end of our meal. We definitely won't be returning. read more

Great patio atmosphere. Traditional Americana food and bar offerings. Barleycorn is a local favorite for lunch and/or dinner. Each time my husband and I have visited we have not had a significant wait time. I would expect that to be different during peak weekend hours. We tend to lean toward the fish dishes (Salmon and Grouper) which have all been delicious. My husband also likes the meatloaf. But, is fish isn't your choice there are lots of other offerings, as well as a kid's menu. It is a perfect low key option for anything from a "first date" to a pre-post game bite with the kids. read more

My favorite location to visit for some great grub! My friend and I eat out every other week at Barleycorn's and decided to switch locations. We do not regret our choice! This location has a fantastic patio area, tables/booths were kept clean, and unique floor lay out. Shout out to our waiter Brandon! He was super accommodating, shared a lot about the history of Barleycorn's with us, and genuinely showed that he loves his job. I ordered the doc style wings with bourbon bbq sauce and Saratoga chips with ranch. They also have one of my favorite beers on draft Kentucky Bourbon Barrel! The wings are double deep fried, they were tender enough that the meat fell off the bone, and are well complemented with the bourbon sauce. The chips were not over greasy and tasted fantastic. We love Barleycorn's especially when the weather is nice. Their outside seating has plenty of seats and a bar. Their menu has so many options that you can go there many times and eat something different every time. Appetizers include eggplant fries queso with chips or pretzel bites and stuffed mushrooms. I've been going here for years, and I'm usually way too occupied to take time to leave reviews, but I've reserved time for this one. This review is dedicated to Brandon, a Class A bartender at Barley's. Brandon is the epitome of a master at his craft. It's much more than being able to sling signature cocktails in seconds. It's much more than having the ability to pour four tall drafts simultaneously by only using fingers; not hands, folks; fingers. It's also about the ability to see your guests as friends first, whether it's their first time (how adorable), or whether they practically live there. Brandon hooks you in, and makes you fit in as if you were a lifelong neighbor. When he's there, I go from simple patron to comfortably reclining in my bar stool. Worry-free, you might describe. Not to mention, this man supports every bar that Barleycorn's operates. He goes where duty calls, and he wears his passion on his sleeve. A good number of bartenders that I've observed in my career that have been in this gig as long as Brandon has tends to take their position for granted after such a tenure, but not Brandon. He raises the bar every shift, and he represents this industry as a true professional without having to put on a face to do so. As the president/director of a vocational program that specializes in mixology training/certification/post-education job resources, I visit bars all over the region my institution covers almost on a daily basis just to observe and study the range of diverse environments the industry offers today. Then, there are places that I like to go, because of the bartenders that I've come to know and appreciate. There are a very small number of such places I frequent, and Barleycorn's is one of them. So, without further adieu, let us raise a glass to the veteran bartenders who proudly represent the bar industry with passion. They are so good at what they do that sometimes we tend to forget how good they actually are, and after so long of being accustomed to good company, we tend to forget to recognize these masters for their outstanding performance. One would assume it not be necessary, as they probably already know how great they are. But I say a pat on the back should always be expressed to those who make our days a little better in their presence. If you are ever visiting Barleycorn's; whether in Lakeside, Florence, or Cold Spring, and if you see Brandon, drop a hello and order a drink at his bar. I'm starting this at three stars knowing it will only get better. For years at this BC, the slave-driver management drove the morale of its employees into the ground. Presentation, quality, and service suffered because of this. Now that One Holland took over, that will only improve. The food was already good (if not much to look at) and this location should continue to be a destination for the long term. Holland could stand to hire a temporary consultant for the improvements and quality control they do not have time to oversee. Whatever they are charging for the wings... just pay it. It's worth it. Drinks could be stronger and servers could stand to quiet the personal convos on the floor and in the kitchen. No one cares how long you've worked today. read more

Old School Tavern-Sports-bar. The atmosphere is dated but fun. Outside is relaxing and nice with fire pits. Inside is rustic but pleasant. The food isn't expensive at all. I tried the Grouper fingers. They were very good. I tried the meatloaf. It was very bad. The potato skins are good. It seems like every time I eat this place, I get one good thing and one bad. I'd call it a 50/50 chance that your food will be good. They get busy on weekends and service gets more challenging. Go for drinks and hope your food is ok... Fun place though... read more

The food, food portions have gone down hill and the prices have gone up. Just not what it was 5 years ago. The only thing I'd recommend is their doc style wings and wildcat sandwich, bun is a little too much bread and not toasted. Their ranch and blue cheese if phenomenal. Best part about this place is 100% the outdoor patio. Lots of room for big parties, couches with fire pits, flat screen TVs, etc. Barleycorns is known for their bar food (burgers and doc style wings) but they've slowly gotten better at some more specialty dishes. I ordered the sweet Thai salmon and my dad ordered the Grouper through the garden with side salads. Both exceeded expectations and would definitely order again. The salmon did come out cold, however, and it was sent back to be reheated. The side salads were very basic with iceberg lettuce, so I may skip that next time. One suggestions I have for management is to get some new toilet seats in the bathroom. They are beat up & look dirty even though it's just permanent knicks and damage. Overall, good spot for beers, quick(ish) eats, and enjoying a night outside. read more

My brother's girlfriend gave us a gift card for Christmas to come here so here we are. I've previously reviewed this location and all of good things that I wrote still hold true (feel free to check that one out.) I've got some different things to review here so let's have a look... Small Jumbo Chicken Wings With Hot Buffalo Sauce And Bleu Cheese Dip Onion Straws Cheese Curds What Is It: The small order of wings ended up being a 9 piece. There's a choice of several different sauces you could get on here and I chose hot Buffalo. Bleu cheese dip was also given. The onion straws had no dipping sauce and the cheese curds came with ranch. Presentation: Everything was served on white plates and looked fine. Basic but fine. 7 out of 10 Taste/ Final Analysis: A 9 piece is plenty for a "small" order and the hot Buffalo flavour on their wings wasn't overpowering but tasted really good and had an okay kick. The bleu cheese was nice and chunky also. The cheese curds were good amd they did offer ranch with it while not as good as a specially made sauce for them was appreciated to dip the curds in. The onion straws were okayish but were desperately in need of a dipping sauce. The batter had good crispness but not a lot of flavour and a ranch or southwest sauce would have greatly helped.
