I really enjoyed the food here. We had several appetizers. We had the pretzels, we had cheese, we had the homemade fried pork skins, we had several more but I cannot remember them all. They were all really good and packed a ton of flavor. I got the ribs and they were absolutely amazing. I got the half rack but really I should've gotten the full rack. They were that good. They were so tender and full of flavor. They have definitely perfected the ribs here. If I were ever to come back I will definitely get the ribs again but it will be a full rack. Really cool laid-back spot to catch a few games and eat some good food. The service was really good. The bartenders made sure we were taken care of. The wait staff was exceptional. They did a great job. We ordered so much food they actually gave us free desserts at the end. I will definitely go back, great job guys. read more

I know my rating and comments may seem disconnected, but it's an issue of Covid safety and overall dining experience. Sadly, we won't be going back until either Covid isn't an issue or Barleys has less tables set so closely together. Bartley's is our neighborhood restaurant and pre-Covid we were regulars with another couple who came even more than us. We have sat outside enough to know that it would have been safe sitting outside during a Covid. I asked the hostess about table spacing and unfortunately, Barley's decided to put more tables outside. Customers are too close together!!! We were so close to another table that were loud and laughing and having fun (no issue), but it made me uncomfortable due to Covid being airborne, I initially wish we had left. Because two tables departed on our other side, I got up and moved those tables and we moved our table away from the other table next to us to gain some level of comfort in staying. Menu has had some changes and everyone enjoyed their drinks and entrees. They do ask you to use your cellphone to bring up the menu. I didn't have great luck with the cocktail menu, but the navigating the food menu was just fine. Andrew M did a great job taking care of us and he was busy. Staff do wear masks, but you see the occasional nose exposed. Tables are wiped down between customers. Sad to learn about Barley's table spacing so, we and friends won't be back until there is more space between tables or until Covid isn't an issue. I know we all don't think the same so this review will resonate with those still trying to dine out and being safe. read more

We visited for restaurant week. Ordered the burnd end pastrami. Pure fat. 2 of the 4 at the table had to send back. The manager did visit and offer to refund a portion after she "informed" us that pastrami has fat. We have had many meals consisting of pastrami in our lives. Never has there been a large piece of fat with a little meat called pastrami served. The 1st course of the meal was a small salad. When we received the bill, we were charged $12 for that. Not one refill on our drinks. Overall, a totally unfortunate and avoidable experience. There is too much competition to have to settle for that. Will never return. read more

Was in for lunch with 3 others. Two of us ordered burgers and discovered that they didn't include any sides so I ordered a "Platter of Fries" for $9, when the food came out the burgers were good but a bit cold, the platter of fries was about equal to a small fry from a fast food joint. I expressed my surprise to our waitress who was pleasant and she expressed that was a standard serving of fries, I asked about the no fry with burger deal and she said all the servers didn't like it but it was management decision. So I will not be returning any time soon, I can get a better deal and better food at Hardee's. read more

Pros: AMAZING bartenders who are expert in what's on tap and super hospitable. Con: Do NOT be fooled by the "Giant Bavarian Pretzel" on the menu. It's actually just 2 regular-sized (and sadly mediocre) pretzels reminiscent of what I used to get at the skating rink growing up....with a cup of mustard and a cup of cheese. It's been 4 years since I've been here, each time great service, why I haven't been here more often! I can because of the tap takeovers and the two beers were good, other places have this on sale but this is the first time here, I understand the mug club is going away, sorry to hear that, always great service and the bartender is awesome and I like outgoing bartender, parking is small but the service makes it up, this place has been here for awhile and they have special plus nite happy hour too, a must to go to, it's just down the street from Johnson county college so it's each to get to, when you check in on untapped your name appears on the screen and for 10 sec your famous, the food is good and they have a patio which is nice too, many more beers than other places, must check it out read more

They daytime bar tender struggles to stay organized and tend to customers in a timely manner. During the day they seem to struggle with filling a growler all the way to the line. So I end up getting shorted a few ounces. I know it sounds a little petty for a few ounces. But it adds up after awhile. The night bar tenders tend to be a lot better. But during a busy night it is chaotic and disorganized. But my growler does get filled correctly. The food is good. But my only real complaint is that the one in Shawnee Mission let me fill the growler I had and no problems. But the this one made me pay a few bucks for one. I was told they would replace it with a new one every time, but they have not, just refill it. Not sure why I couldn't just use the same one I had...... it's the same material. I can't remember why I've passed up this place everytime I'm in need of a nice sit down dinner but I'm glad I visited yesterday! Went for lunch and had a delicious chicken Hawaiian bowl. It was absolutely delicious!! The restaurant was clean and they were bussing tables very quickly. It was pretty expensive for a lunch option, I'd consider the prices more dinner prices so I wish they had a lunch menu. I've always loved Barleys, they have great food, great ambiance, love their live music. However, the last time I was there I was charged things I didn't order, as well as over charged me on the item I did order. We had made reservations prior, our service was slow. We got there at 5, it took 20 min for our server to come to us. We told her we wanted to put in orders for Happy Hour where she specifically said "well you have another 40 min to still order." She left and didn't come back until we had to hunt her down 5 minutes before happy hour was over to order our food and drinks. She was in such a hurry when paying we felt rushed. When I got home to look at my receipt I noticed I was over charged on my happy hour item and charged for items I did not order. I called and spoke to the manager who said their new machine sometimes messes up on item prices and would reimburse me, I would see the charge within a few days. I had not seen it back so I called back. They said it would be a few days later. It has now been a month and I have not seen my money back. At this point, I will not be returning. I normally try to catch errors in the moment, but as we were stuck waiting for most of our time there, and rushed when it came to pay I just wanted to get out there. Check your receipts! read more

The waiter kept coming to our table with his mask below his nose. That was the first offense. We then ordered the wings as an appetizer and for $13 they were small and cold in the middle. My husband ordered the burger they offer and it was supposed to be medium but it was well done. And I got their stroud's hot chicken sandwich and fries. Other than the sauce there were no condiments on it at all. It was bland and overpriced. I typically leave good reviews and give the restaurants the benefit of the doubt, but this was 3 strikes. The waitress took our drink order then came back and had totally forgot and asked us for our orders again like she'd never seen us before! Then as first timers, she didn't proactively offer any help and we had to pull it out of her. Then, she literally didn't do anything. The food and drinks were dropped off by others. Never checked on us, never asked for refills. We even had to flag her down for a ticket. She dropped it off, checked out the table next to us and then walked off for another 10+minutes! The other table next to us had to stop the greeter to take the plates piling up at their table. IT WAS NOT BUSY! it was early afternoon. When she did come back she never said a word, just ran my card and handed me the machine to give her a tip. SMH. Even though the food was great I don't think we will ever come back. I went here with my best friend for Galentine's Day and enjoyed it. We had a reservation but didn't end up needing it. The restaurant is large and their were plenty of open tables. Our waitress was great! She was very knowledgeable about both the food menu and the drink menu and willing to offer suggestions. The drink menu was extensive. Although I'm no expert on beer, I do like to try different kinds and know some of the basics. Barley's has a large selection of beer on tap as well as options in bottles and cans. The waitress offered great suggestions based on what I liked. My meal was delicious and the portion size was perfect. I chose from the 600 and under menu (not for calories, but to save room for beer!). I had a chicken pesto dish that was filling but didn't leave me stuffed. After ordering cucumber kettle one n tonic the server scrolled up and down her device and finally found it. She than asked did I want lime and rocks? I said yes. (Of course I said yes who would want a vodka tonic without ice? ) Who ever heard of an industry standard for an extra large pour called rocks? That doesn't even make sense. I've been to both locations recently and just have to say that the quality has really dropped off since I used to go here a lot about 10 years ago. I used to come here sometimes just for fried pickles and great Draft Hard Cider. The pickles aren't on the menu anymore and all the ciders now are really tart and one I tried had a strange smell. Fish and chips here is good but they don't serve tartar sauce, irs some lemony aioli that sort of ruins the meal for me. Prob won't come back again for food unless menu changes again. read more

The food for the new Sunday brunch was sub par! Terrible! The waffle was cold , hard, overcooked, and tasteless. The chicken pieces were hard as bricks and way overcooked! On top of that, it wasn't even what I ordered. A salad was to come with and it came alone and after a long wait and when the correct order showed up, one look announced that it was not edible (cold, hard, overcooked with cold scrambled eggs which looked sickly). The ice tea was colored water, no taste. My husband's food and drink were little better (without going in to detail) and he stated he would never order that again! Definitely not coming back for the Sunday debacle! They were also short staffed and it was obvious by the long wait times for everyone there! Perhaps they need a new cook! Decided to give this place a try and regretted the decision. Food wasn't that good and neither was the service. Short rib Poutine tasted...off. We love a good poutine but this wasn't it. The chicken gravy they added in addition to the brown gravy was gelatinous and the cheese had a moldy aftertaste. Fish and chips were better but not great (tarter sauce was actually decent though). Fries were good. And the kids chicken tenders were bland and dry. Also the serving sizes were on the small side for the prices charged. Service was lacking as well with the server forgetting to bring items and not checking in with us to be reminded of them. We won't be going back. read more

I have been going to this bar/restaurant for 20 years. I love the food, atmosphere and they used to have the best service in the area, and incredible food. They recently have turned over all of their staff, and it is now a place i will never go to again. I've been there 3 times since this new change in service and will not return. I get it that it's hard to find employees right now, however you have to have good service to get people to come back, and this is just awful. I have honestly never experienced worse service from any bar/restaurant , ever!! I won't say I will never be back, but until they can fix their service issue, I will never be back. read more
