Dr Houston was very professional and compassionate when I had to make the heartbreaking decision to put down my fur baby. My husband brought our German Shepherd in because he was very sick, our regular vet was not in office that day. Went in as an emergency was told it was $156 just for walking in the door. My dog was seen right away and given a physical exam & IV fluids, the doctor thought he felt a mass. He did get second opinion from another vet, who agreed with him. Was told the news (tumor)and given an offer to euthanize him then and there. He refused. (Thank God!) Lab work was not offered, no x-rays no blood tests. Again, vet said to make an appointment for our boy to be euthanized. Husband said no, he will take him home. Was given hospice meds and sent home. Gave the meds for 2 days (My fur baby was so lethargic!) Spoke to my regular vet and decided to get 2nd opinion! First thing up was lab work and xrays! No tumor, no cancer. If decisions had been made upon Barlow Trail's diagnosis, our dog would be dead! Ending bill? Almost $700.00! If you value your animals life, Don't take them anywhere near this place! read more

Zero stars here too. the front desk lady was soooo b*t*hy I can't even believe her. No way would I put her in front of my office. I called cause I was going to be late she told me after 10 mins I couldn't be seen. I showed up 11 mins late and said I tried and drove from Gresham to get there on time and even called. She was rude and said "WELL you are after 10 mins. I said it's 5:11 and she looked at me and said "ACTUALLY it's 5:12" with the worst attitude ever. And by the time I walked in and said her name to check in yes it was 5:12. But I would never ever treat even someone I hated the way she used her tone with me. They may be a good vet but time for a more respectful front desk person. We will be taking out dog somewhere else 100%. read more

Everyone is always so helpful and I always receive a reply within an extremely reasonable amount of time. We have been seeing Dr. Houston for something like 12 years, either at Barlow or Village Vet in Damascus. I've always been a huge fan of these people and appreciate everyone's efforts to keep my 4 legged family healthy. Today we had to see Dr. Houston again as things aren't quite back to normal. What vet doesn't take a sick kitty's temperature? The vet was condescending and frankly worthless.

My dog was experiencing a rash which was causing him to be miserable, itching constantly. I called and was able to make an appointment for 1 day later (the first vet I called was 2 weeks out for any appointment). When we arrived, everyone was very kind, all wore masks, the place was clean, and we got in on time. The care and service provided was fantastic. The price was fair Most importantly, their recommendations worked and my dog was feeling relief (not scratching every 3 seconds) almost immediately. Recently my 4 year old Frenchie had his teeth cleaned for the first time. I quit taking my dogs for cleanings a few years ago due to a scary experience I had with Banfield, but the reason I chose to have it done was because I trust Dr. Houston and her staff. This was the second time that I was quoted a price and at the time of service the price had changed to more money. the first time I thought it was just a mistake but the second time? one after the other? I even went to the bank to get the correct amount because they charge extra for using a credit card. this feels like a bate and switch playing on your feelings for your pet to pay more than quoted. sorry, I do not recommend and will be looking for a different clinic for my two pups read more

I love this vet clinic. They're close to us and the staff is amazing. All of their veterinarians are so knowledgeable and kind, same with the techs and the front office staff. They're currently taking wonderful care of my Saint Bernard who developed a nasty abscess under his chin. Less than $300 for visit, shaving, attempting to drain, antibiotics, pain meds and flea treatments for all of my dogs. Also just took our new Irish Wolfhound puppy in yesterday for his first visit. I have 3 Saint Bernards and 2 Irish Wolfhounds, and wouldn't take them anywhere else. The exam fee is a little high IMO at $60, but the superior care and attention they give my babies is worth it. read more

I started bringing my dog here in 2019. The doctors are friendly and caring to both of my pets. The Staff however is rude and unaccommodating. They are outrageously expensive....neutering for my dog would be "free" if I agreed to $830+ in additional services with pain med at an optional cost of $100 and recently requesting a "deposit" to schedule an appointment before I ever step foot in the door...despite the fact that I have paid in full at each visit no questions asked! Scheduling has become inflexible unless I want to pay a higher "emergency" rate. They are not the only vet around. We will chose to move on! read more

We've trusted Barlow Trail Veterinary Clinic with our pet's health for about 20 years. During that time the faces have changed but the standard of care and customer service has remained very good. Our recent visit for a wellness check for our cockapoo and our longhaired housecat went very well. Staff are following appropriate Covid-19 safety procedures while continuing to meet the demands of a busy practice. The online app to schedule appointments is helpful. I'm withholding one star today because of the high turnover of both technicians and veterinarians at Barlow Trail. It takes getting to know someone to fully trust them with your best friends! The staff was very friendly and seemed to be very thorough on looking over my dog that has sever allergies. I was coming in for a nail trim and to get a written prescription for her allergy medication. The vet still looked over all of her records from our old clinic to make sure she wasn't missing anything. There was some problems with her old blood work so she wanted to recheck just to be safe and sure enough it was still off. I am glad they caught the problem so we could have a plan on what to do next. The wait was a little long but how you complain when the vet takes sooo much time with you. My dog is very nervous when she goes to the vet and she did everything to try to make her comfortable. read more

Visited Barlow vet April 4th, 2019 with a cat who'd lost the catnip wars. In other words, had minor but concerning injuries after fighting the neighborhood strong man. His primary vet is near Hillsboro, so this would be our first visit to Barlow. We were in the vet a day after calling, which was amazingly quick.Telling me that they knew we were worried about our cat's health. Dr. Houston and staff did a great job with their treatment of Sammi. He was mad at the world; with the calm, assertive handling he received at the clinic, he complied with the exam and treatment. I would wish that the clinic was closer to our primary residence so we could switch vets but feel comforted by the fact that we have just what we need in Sandy, OR. First the good. The staff is mostly friendly, they are open 7 days a week and will take in your pet in case of an emergency. The bad. Prices seem high, very fixated on money, wait times can be long or at least they have been every time I have been there. Last of all I got a bad taste in my mouth by the receptionist when I called when I was concerned about my dog. I wanted to know if I should bring him in for an emergency and they wouldn't answer that question. Probably the best option in Sandy but I haven't been to the other clinic. read more

We have an elderly pygmy goat who really needed her hooves trimmed. We couldn't get a herd health done because our sheep decided they didn't want their shots and hooves trimmed, so we needed to transport our goat to a vet. I called Barlow Trail and the phone was answered by Courtney, a very friendly young woman, who assured me that Dr Christenson could trim Latté's feet. So today our little goat suffered the indignities of being put into a dog kennel in the back of my van, and off we went. I met Courtney at the front desk, who was just as friendly in person as she was on the phone. She told me Dr Christianson would be with us shortly, so I went back out to the car to wait. He came out in a few minutes, and in just a little while, had Latté's badly overgrown hooves trimmed down to where they should be. He also gave her a tetanus shot and advised us how to care for her hooves for the next couple of weeks and how to trim them ourselves if we wanted to. Using pruning shears, no less! Who woulda thunk it? The fees for the service were reasonable, and Dr Christianson was very friendly and helpful. All in all, a very positive experience all the way 'round. I took a pug puppy in to have a minor hernia checked with my perspective buyers. I was explaining to them that I have had a few of these before and that it probably wouldn't need to be repaired but if it did they would do it when they spayed at a minimal cost. The vet tech came into the room and rudely interupted me to tell them that it would have to be repaired and that i was breeding defects and that i have no business breeding at all. She shows labs and breeds them so shes an expert according to her. She also said my puppy had fleas which was a lie. I went home and washed her. Guess what not one flea. When the vet came in she told us the very same thing i had said that it probably would close on its own that more then likely it was a delayed closure but according to the vet tech there is no such thing. She told them ALL hernias are genetic defects and that i dont know what im doing. Im deeply disturbed by this. How can someone disparange another person like this without at least looking at the parents or my breeding books or talking to my vet? I do know I would never recommend them to anyone. Even though the puppies health checked out and the buyers were ok with the condition of her hernia her rudeness and her so called expertise decided the people againest buying the puppy cause of what the vet tech had to say. Love Dr. Huston. My dog Harry turn into the devil when he goes to any vet. She was so calm about it and saw him anyways. (He was being really bad) We muzzled him. He also pee'd on us 3 times. He is the sweetest dog, but turns into the exorcist at the vet. Dr. H is very thorough and so sweet. Handled him just like the pro she is. Our cat had an injury that needed urgent care services. We called multiple veterinary clinics, including pet hospitals, but were told they were all booked for several weeks or in an emergency, 3+ hours. Barlow Trail Veterinary Clinic was able to get us in an urgent care spot withing 30 minutes, and unlike other clinics, one of us was allowed to attend the visit with our pet (which alleviated much stress and anxiety for both us and our cat) the staff there were kind and very professional. We would highly recommend there services to anyone. We will certainly be using there services for all of our future pet care needs. read more

Dr. Thompson was great! I took my 2 boxers Twyla and Jagger to see her more than once. She has a very calm energy which was very helpful for the pups and ME!! I took my boxer in when she started having symptoms of food allergy and also grew a tumor on her ear. She gave me all of my options and I never felt pushed to do anything. To be honest I want the option of no star but they won't let me post this otherwise. My chihuahua got attacked by a coyote early Thursday morning and the soonest they could get me in was around noon on Saturday (two days later, which throws this buisnesses urgent care card out the window). I live down the road so it's a quick drive getting there, but they scheduled my appointment during a street festival. I had no knowledge of the festival due to the fact that I live in the town next to this one and don't receive the town's local news. The traffic was the worst I have ever seen in my life (Which is uncommon for a weekend). The festival traffic made me late & they called and cancelled my appointment right when I was entering their parking lot. This shows to me that if they really cared about my dog they would of honored my appointment. Especially knowing that not an every day occurence, like a street festival is going on right outside their buisness door which will knowingly delay their clients from showing up on time to begin with. I have been to this vet once before and really considered going back due to their very steep prices, but this incident was the final straw. Time for a new vet. Hopefully one that does actually what their paid to do taking care of your animal and provide good customer service. read more

I went to Barlow Trail to purchase a replacement bag of Royal Canin Urinary SO Feline cat food for my ailing sister's 2 cats & had a hostile encounter with the service desk in the attempt to purchase the cat food. Left feeling humiliated with the smallest possible bag, that the clinic was somehow bending the rules to accommodate the purchase, that the cats hadn't been seen in the last year and an exam of both cats were necessary before another bag of this expensive cat food ($38.89 for 6.6# bag or $5.89/#). Now, if... if each exam were $40.00 each for each healthy cat, then Barlow Trail would sell the next bag for essentially $118.89 or $18.01/#. Barlow Trail seems to think the public aren't aware of this sales tactic, or aware there are other veterinary clinics one can bring their pets to. The long & short of this is Barlow Trail lost 2 4-legged patients, and any future sales of their very expensive cat food to my sister. I write this review to alert other customers of this sales tactic. Very under-impressed and extremely pissed off at the unnecessary humility endured by the service desk. I took my dog in yesterday for a lump that I had just noticed over the weekend to get it checked out and possibly tested depending on what the vet said, Dr. Houston checked him out and recommended testing for cancer which I was kind of expecting but hoping that it wasn't cancer related. I was on limited funds, (Dr. Houston didn't know that), I asked her if I can split the bill to pay off on 2 diff cards.. she made an adjustment that fit what I could pay on one card WHICH I WAS VERY GRATEFUL FOR!
