Barn B Que is one of those "we go every time we are here" establishments. It is so goid and always makes us want to come back. They have a variety on the menu and they will accomodate. Well, how to describe the disappointment. This place seems like someone from Iowa watched YouTube videos on how to smoke meat, then bought a barn off eBay and set it up in the middle of Missouri. In a state known for barbecue - this was a huge let down. The secret is low and slow - but I don't think these folks got the message. I have had better meat made in an oven. The ribs were under-cooked, and chewy. They didn't come close to "falling off the bone". Their "rub" was thick and sweet - maybe too much brown sugar? The brisket almost tasted microwaved. It was dry on the lean side, and chewy on the fatty side. None of the tell-tale signs of smoking meat really. The sides were OK, although the "fried potato salad" is just home-fries with some sauce on them. They would have been good for breakfast though! The slaw was decent although generic - almost could have been bought from Nobel-Sysco. The green beans were a stand out, they were very good. Decent spot for BBQ. I arrived about an hour before closing and there was only 1 person waiting tables. She promptly seated me and got me a water. The menu is huge. I ordered the 2 meat dinner. Ordered ribs and beef brisket. 2 sides I went with was the Mac and cheese and Fried Potato Salad. Ribs were alright. Not quite fall off the bone good. Brisket was a long cut, two slices. Alright. I wasn't really all that impressed. I prefer the square cut you typically get. The sides however were great. Mac and Cheese was really good. Like they cut a block of cheese and melted it. The fried potato salad was the first time I've had. Basically fried cut chunks of potato's with the salad dressing. Service overall was great. The most confusing part was the setup. Walk in at the register is there to tell you to wait to be sit. The back of the room looks like you would normally walk up and order in a line. But you don't. Then the wait staff table of stuff was sitting there. It didn't make a whole lot of sense. Cost for myself was about $35 before tips. A bit pricey for average BBQ. read more

Driven by here for years, never stopped Ken. It was our first dining experience here. It was very busy, which was good to see. As usual, I always get the same thing when I go to a new barbecue place I haven't been to before. A large brisket sandwich, fries, and beans. They offer four sizes of sandwiches 4 ounces 6 ounce and 8 ounce. The beans were described as grandma's special recipe, containing five different kinds of beans and stewed tomatoes. I will say, those were in the top three beans I've had at a barbecue place, really really good. The brisket was very flavorful, tender and juicy, but I was disappointed in the size of the sandwich. Supposed to be 8 ounces, but I'm sure it was only five or six. They offer six different sauces, which is good. Tried them all and my personal favorite would be the one they referred to as mustard, but I wouldn't say it was real mustardy, just had a good smoky barbecue flavor. Also, I would say a sandwich, especially for the size was not worth the $17 price. Sandwiches come with one side so I add it on the extra side for my meal. I think if it would've been a full 8 ounces I would have not worried about the $17 price. Overall, a good experience. I definitely would come here again and maybe try their ribs. read more

A wonderful barbecue restaurant that you need to check out near the Lake of the Ozarks is Barn-B-Que. We went to another restaurant next door for dinner and we knew we had to come back for Barn-B-Que the next day! We stopped in for brunch and really enjoyed the pulled pork breakfast sandwich. Great price friendly service good barbecue. We brought our family of about 16 people and they were seated right away with a very friendly staff. The food smelled awesome. The portions were very filling and they even had some unique items that we all got a chance to try. Their cocktail lounge was pretty special as we had some very unique drinks, overall this place four stars but probably would give it 4 1/2 if yelp had a half-point rating. I stopped in at Barn-B-Que Smokehouse on a business trip to the lake. It was a miserable day weather wise and I wanted comfort food. It was a late lunch, so the place was empty. I asked my server for her recommendation and she suggested the brisket bowl or brisket tacos. I went with the bowl. My food was ready very quickly. The portion size was appropriate. The bowl had rice, beans, brisket, lettuce , cheese, and guacamole. It had a lot of flavor and helped warm me up on the rainy day. Barn-B-Que is right next to Li'l Rizzo's and is owned by them. Bagnell Dam was blocked off due to some sort of festival and it was a little difficult to get around it. It looks like every modern BBQ restaurant. They do have table service though. I ordered the 2 Meat Dinner with Burnt Ends, 1 sausage link, salad, and tater tots with blue cheese and bacon. I was on vacation and I love BBQ. The best thing on the plate were the tater tots. They were freshly fried, crisp, and the toppings were delicious. The salad was crisp and fresh as well. I found the meats a little lackluster. They weren't very fresh and tasted as if they had been held a while. The burnt ends were a little tough. The sausage link had absolutely no snap or flavor. Very underrated breakfast restaurant! Open for breakfast Friday - Sunday with little wait time and a view! The service was great and quick. My friends at the breakfast while I just drank coffee. My friends enjoyed their breakfast and said they would absolutely return again. Most important: We had driven by to breakfast places that had weights outside for at least 20 to 30 minutes. We walked into this spot and got a seat right away. Breakfast menu was large and had a great variety. Atmosphere was really nice and the view outside was very pretty. Our first stop for lunch during our visit to Lake Ozarks. Great atmosphere to really get you in the spirit of the outdoors. Really looks like an old barn. I got the 6oz brisket which was plenty for me. I've been trying not to overeat as my waistline is paying the price. Anyway brisket was well cooked and the bread was great and did not fall apart. I had such high hopes when my fiance and I walked in and it smelled good! Our waitress was good. But the bbq was so disappointing... We tried 3 of their sauces and weren't impressed by any, they were all watery. The side of corn was definitely canned and tasted like it had gone bad or maybe gas from cooking?? Very funky. The baked beans were a bit weird tasting too. The worst was the burnt ends. They were drenched in not so great bbq sauce. Sausage was not good. The service was excellent, knowledgeable of their offerings, and provided suggestions on sauceless, or, if desired - the horseradish sauce. Man, those tender slices of deliciousness stood on their own, and adding a little sauce was spectacular as well. I am being generous with my two stars only because I was being empathetic to the wait staff. Only two waiters on a Friday night and a hiring sign outside. The waiters tried their very best but at no point was I ever offered a refill on our drinks. The ribs and brisket were the best meats we had but were just okay. The sausage was horrible. It was dry and the texture was not palatable. Sides were fair but nothing to write home about. We had the corn, okra, fries, potato salad and Mac & cheese. The Mac & cheese was the best side. Prices reasonable for BBQ. The ambiance is casual and the building is cute. We also were not provided with the bread that was suppose to be on our plate like the rest of the patrons.
