This review is for the restaurant up the block from the bookstore. First time visiting since Chrissy's closed and I was very pleasantly surprised. Interesting menu, cute decor, friendly staff. Frittata was very good, as was the fried eggs with sautéed greens. But the star of breakfast was the blueberry pancakes. I have honestly never had pancakes as light and fluffy as these...don't know how they make them so good. Will def be returning. read more

Came here on a Tuesday morning at 8:30. The line was not out the door, but there was a long line meaning they must be good. They had a few things they were out of but they had an egg and cheese you could get an a biscuit or English muffin, as well as a sausage sandwich. They also had a pastry case with scones, Maine blueberry muffins, and some cinnamon rolls. We got a cinnamon roll, and a blueberry muffin. Both were fresh and tasty. The egg sandwiches were all good. They came on a toasted, English muffin, and in the sausage and egg biscuit. The sausage and eggs were pre-mixed together. It is attached to a bookstore. Very cute little shop. There were a few places to sit inside, as well as a table and some chairs outside. Overall a nice little place to stop. The menu was a little limited for breakfast but I'm sure you can find something you'll like. read more

Wow! what an unexpected gem of a place we stumbled upon while we were passing by this town and were in need of coffee. It is cute place open space. The cool part is that it's connected to Sherman's Bookstore which is filled with not only books, but stationary and a few children's toys as well. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We had some cappuccino and it was good. They have a nice variety of pastries and cakes as well as sandwiches & toasts. The croissant was phenomenal, it was buttery, flaky, perfect size for sharing and honestly just melted in our mouths. I am salivating just thinking about it! Even the Breakfast biscuits were out of this world delicious! Cannot wait to go back!!! And the prices were reasonable too. read more

Orders took a long time to come out despite 3 people working and my chai was warm at best. Plus I asked for shots to be added and the quality was muddy and not Great tasting. A very fine breakfast experience. We stopped in here based on the good Yelp reviews and I'm glad we did. The entrance was a little hard to find because the main part of the building is a bookstore and door to the bakery is tucked away on the right side. When we arrived, there was a significant line, but they managed it really well. There is a diversity of breakfast choices, including hot breakfast sandwiches; however, sweet bakery is their strong point. We tried the brioche cinnamon rolls, and the blueberry muffins. The blueberry muffins were especially good, they had numerous flavorful blueberries in them... Our breakfast sandwiches were OK. They made scrambled eggs and put a little pieces of sausage in it rather than a fried egg and a sausage patty. On the positive side, the English muffin part was delicious and locally made. The people operating the business were super nice --friendly and positive. It was the type of place do you want to give your business to. read more

This is one of their Grand Marnier cakes with custom decoration. The authentic Cordon Rouge liqueur is used to flavour both the cake and the frosting, and peeled segments of fresh Mandarin oranges are baked in the cake. Stopped in for a treat on our way to Portland after a week in mid coast area. I selected the pecan scone with a delicious maple frosting, not too thick, and a hot chai tea-also tasty and xtra hot (appreciated). Others in our party ordered the quiche (5), blueberry muffin (4), apple crumb muffin (5), and both hot and cold drinks. Quaint bakery with decent seating, connected to a well stocked book store. Small coastal town where keeping staff is likely challenging. Service behind counter great and appears they may have rotating options on some bakery items. I stopped by here this past Sunday with my wife for my morning coffee. Barn Door Baking Co is located right on main st in Damariscotta. Upon walking in the first thing that you notice is the display case with pastries in it like croissants and others. It is also attached to the book store next door and has two exits in both the side and the back directly into it. For my coffee on this day I decided to go with a 20 oz latte. After only a short wait I had my coffee and was on my way. Whenever it had cooled down enough to try it I thought that it was pretty good. There was a good amount of milk in it but you could still taste the coffee. I only wish that the coffee had a deeper and richer flavor to it. The bottom line for me is that I would stop by here again in the future. While all that I got was a latte, it was enjoyable and I would be interested in trying some of their baked goods. read more

I've heard nothing but great things about the baked goods here...this rating isn't about those products. One of my pet peeves, as someone who both: a) loves coffee, and, b) hates getting screwed, is paying for tap water. The difference between a small and large Americano at this cafe is the addition of more water in your drink, period. When I say, "You know what, make it a large", that's my way of verbally communicating that I would like to pay for additional coffee in my cup, not a request that they dilute my drink and charge me to do so. Worst of both worlds. A normal place will add another shot as one's order goes up in size; a great place will add two shots. If you are reading this, and don't love (read: need) your coffee strong, you'll only understand half my complaint. This place got one extra star because adding two additional shots to my watered-down Americano only cost me an extra buck (though they dumped out some of my drink to add it in). If I had known this going in, I might have actually decided to order 4 shots over ice anyway, only with less whining, disappointment and butt-hurt. Every time we visit my wife's family in Damariscotta we visit the book store/ bakery on Main Street. I ordered a Iced latte and pumpkin bread. Both were fantastic and the staff is super friendly. Everything we had was delicious! We had the homemade salmon spread on Danish rye (so good, flavors perfectly balanced), granola bowl with honey (yum!), the croissant (perfect! Flaky and crusty outside with soft and chewy inside and wonderfully buttery throughout! I love a good croissant, and this is a really good one!), and the chocolate zucchini bread (not what we were expecting in a zucchini bread, but delicious! More chocolate and cinnamon than zucchini, but also not too sweet, more sweet spicy!). The sticky buns and cinnamon buns were very popular and looked delicious too. read more

I ordered a custom-made chocolate cake and an assortment of sweets by phone for my wife for Valentine's Day. First, the baked goods: They were all big hits -- delicious and of highest quality. The cake I ordered was gluten free. For a GF cake, it was super moist, which is surprising since most GF baked goods tend to be a little on the stiff side. The assortment of sweets was as great as they looked. Second, the service: I know that in rural Maine, delivery may not be as easy to come by as in the city where you can find plenty of food delivery services like DoorDash, Instacart, etc. However, because I could not personally pick up the cake and sweets, one of the owners was able to deliver the goodies to us. You must try the cinnamon rolls - delicious, not dry or hard (unlike many places), with the right amount of cinnamon and icing. I want to try their rose pistachio buns the next time I see them. Scones are good too, again not dry or hard. I also tried a vegetarian quiche slice that was delicious. Good cold brew coffee. You can't go wrong. We stopped in back in November 2019. Cute little establishment that left quite an impression on us. They had hands down the best grilled cheese I've ever had.
