David Atwater's The Bakery is a welcome arrival. Offering a variety of scratch muffins, pastries, breads, cakes and pies, our favorites are the fresh blueberry muffins (and blueberry muffin "holes"!) and the Anadama bread. Located just off Main street in the Municipal Parking lot, The Bakery opens at 7am and has a few small tables if you don't have to rush home to feed a crowd. Nevertheless this should not have been sold to us if they care about all customers, locals and tourist alike, like we were. I decided to have a second slice this morning to see if Friday's stomach discomfort was a fluke but again the same thing happened. We just tossed the loaf into the garbage can. I ordered a small carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. The cake had beautiful frosting details and a walnut topping. It was hands down one of the best carrot cakes we've ever had (and that's comparing against bakeries in Boston like Flour!). I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Camden.

There is a much cuter location in Camden where an elderly lady beat me to the last 4 blueberry muffins. I think The Red Barn is a bit of a local secret but it should not be. Delicious baked goods should be known to all. Everything is delicious. We had the sticky buns, nicely caramelized with just enough icing, we had the mini red velvet cake, perfect size. I could go on and on. I will definitely visit every chance I get.

I got there at 8:42 AM and there were two people in front of me. There was only one person making use of the ample seating that was available. After I ordered, I turned around and there was over a dozen people waiting. The bagels were fresh and very tasty! Excellent! One serving me was a bit grumpy and the other was very nice, so service is a coin toss. Get there early!

I briefly kvetched about not being open later, and voila, they seemingly heard my wish and installed a pastry vending machine so that local residents could "grab an eclair at 2am." I was hoping that they would expand into breakfast items, and there they go, creating breakfast burritos and sandwiches. When I was sure I'd never find an amazing lunch spot in the area, boom, grab and go lunch sandos that rival any lunch joint in the state. I can't say enough good things about the charming and friendly counter gal, the warm, welcoming shop, the variety of delicious and gorgeous pastries and the ease of getting in and out of the location.
