We had a group of five and only waited a few minutes, but I could easily see how during busier times it might be a longer wait. Be aware that coffee is ok to take "to go" but they want you to enjoy your meal there regardless. (Health condition or not.) The food is delicious and looks like they put time, energy and efforts in creating many yummy offerings. We enjoyed the egg sandwich's without jalapeños. The coffee is incredible! The grilled corn raspberry muffin with butter is worth the calories. Service is top notch indeed, this ground runs like a family. Ambiance is busy and those who stay eat in reasonable times so you won't have to wait long. I would recommend this place. Parking is in back (no paying and plenty). First of all, let me say this is the first negative review I have ever given a rstaurant. Last year we discovered Mama D's and everytime we went, it was wonderful. Today we had breakfast - it was not wonderful. In fact it was incredibly disappointing. Of course the ambience is there, but this morning the service was unbelievably slow and the food was average, at best. The serving staff was terribly understaffed. Our server, bless her soul, was working incredibly hard, but she needed help. Taking our orders took way too long. Getting our food took way too long. Getting our check, even longer. In the past Mama D's was a delight. After this moring, I doubt we'll ever go back. Ownership is too blame. When you cut down on service and quality, you've only got yourselves to blame. We were visiting Boothbay Harbor for Gardens AGLOW. The Tugboat Inn suggested Mama D's Cafe for breakfast so we went. It's a cute little house with plenty of parking in the rear. We were seated at a high top table near the door. I have a gluten allergy and was happy to see GF toast, Gf bagels and GF English muffins on the menu. I had an omelette with bacon. The waitress was knowledgeable about my gluten allergy and told me the potatoes were cooked on the same grill where bread is grilled, so I passed on those. My daughter had a Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries and cream. She added the real maple syrup for an additional $3. The meal was great. We enjoyed it all. We recommend Mama D's Cafe if you're in the area. Bring cash. No credit or debit is accepted. read more

Eggs over easy cooked perfectly. The breakfast sandwich special which involved pesto, provolone, eggs and I'm not sure what else on a croissant was not offered to taste. It was that good! This is one of the few restaurants open year round in the quaint, coastal town on a peninsula, Boothbay Harbor, Maine. This place is down around the other side of "town" slightly heading toward East Boothbay... near the very end of the Harbor...but it's a pleasant walk on a nice day. Mama D's is a wonderful place to provide delicious fuel for the body! The customer service is very kind, helpful, polite, and prompt without being pushy. They offer quite a few gluten free choices, including english muffins ... this makes me sing alleluia when I hear they have them in stock! My two eggs were a bit overcooked (I'd asked for poached easy, and they weren't at all runny), but still acceptable, so I didn't say anything. The environment is cozy and kitschy, kind of like being in your great grandma's kitchen or dining room. At the time, there was Christmas decor, as well as the usual hats, bird houses, license plates, and many other memorabilia type things as decor. Everywhere. Even so, there was no dust that I could see, and the place was tidy and clean (as it always is whenever I've been there, which is at least a half dozen times!) Both of us enjoyed our late breakfast before heading to Camden for the next few days. We'll definitely be back, as this was our third visit in 3 months. Corned beef hash was lukewarm at best, the rest of the food was great as always. However, BIG negative was the 5-6 of us regularly meet here for our book club and end up spending a wasted 15 minutes trying to decipher a tiny piece of paper with our orders illegibly crammed on it because they won't let us order separately and just have separate checks. It's 2025 and it's not asking for much. Super annoying when we'd just like to pay and leave (and open up the table), some of us spend 25 and others spend less than 10, some on fixed incomes. We all commented how the waitress would've gotten far more tips overall if we could've each just paid for our own meals. Second time this has happened this summer and it's sheer laziness on the restaurant's part when we ask at the beginning to give us separate checks. Ridiculous. Visiting from New Jersey... On our last day in Maine we decided to get some breakfast at mama D's café before we head down to Portland. This is a Very small café that holds about 10 to 15 tables, so they sat us on a little bar that they had for breakfast which we didn't mind at all. My husband had a regular coffee and I just had water for drinks for breakfast we ordered one regular waffle, breakfast platter with over easy eggs sausage and toast and we also had Mama D's omelette that came with home fries and toast. We were seated Immediately once we got there but we had to wait a while to be served our food, the breakfast was good, nothing out of the ordinary but the service and the quality of the breakfast was good. We were pretty excited to try this place based upon how cute it was and because we were tourists. We went for breakfast and they were busy but after a reasonable wait and without a reservation we were able to get a table. The staff was friendly to seat us and to take our order. We did wait a while to get our breakfast which wasn't a special order by any means. Everything was just ok. One of our party got the corned beef hash which looked like it had been dumped from a can and everything else was just ok. I am pretty disappointed to have to do this since the physical location is SUPER fantastic... small old-time storefront converted into a quant diner with a cacophony of brick-a-brack smattered all over the walls & shelves. My food, which I assume is why you're entering the store, is a slight step over the middle-school cafeteria. I ordered 2 eggs scrambled with sausage (for 6 dollars) and received s semi-gelatinous heap of eggs with a single ... yes 1 ... sausage patty. I could forgive this if it were homemade, but alas, it was a product pulled from the freezer. My wife got an omelet with the same jiggle eggs, but instead of a single sausage, she was greeted with what was listed on the menu (and most likely on the frozen bag of potato shreds) was, hashbrowns, but arrived quite moist and squishy. So my experience is if you are looking for squishy, bland, and overpriced ... skip on the eggs & hashbrowns and give something else a try. read more

This little hidden gem has grown in popularity, with their amazing specials and usual menu items. The staff is polite and attentive. Even when they are rocking and rolling in the breakfast rush. Here's a few tips for a great experience: During peak season, it is not unusual to have a wait list in the mid morning. Don't worry, it's worth the wait. Grab a cup o coffee from the self serve coffee shelf and be patient. Rock on the porch or peruse the arts and crafts from local artisans and artists. When in doubt, the Mamma D's sandwich has the right amount of heat and eggy goodness to start the day. It's my go-to breakfast. The specials board is always changing, so pay attention. And, substitutions on the specials are not allowed. But, Lori's wonderful concoctions always hit the spot. If you have the opportunity, get a table on the deck or in the rockers on the front porch. On warm days, the cool breeze is wonderful! Last tip: this ain't no fast food, short order, grab and go breakfast drive through. Don't be in a rush. Enjoy a meticulously prepared meal. Mama D's was very basic. There was nothing exceptional, or for that matter even particularly good about the experience. I ordered the special corned beef hash which I was assured was "made in-house". It is remarkable to me that they could replicate the look of a manufactured food product so well in-house. It was nothing that a little salt and a lot of pepper and Tabasco couldn't make palatable (see picture) but I would never go back for seconds. read more

Parking was easy behind the restaurant, and the back deck had un-padded chairs which are OK for short meal. The coffee bar is help yourself inside, and so we got to see the cute location. Was really excited to go- had heard great things... we have a home in the area but just had never been. Wait was long but thought this must be GREAT! Finally time to sit and they didn't have a booster seat for our 12 month old. Only have one for their entire restaurant. So we spent half of our breakfast with the baby on our laps. They finally brought the booster once the first child was done and it does not have a seat belt so obviously not safe. The "coffee bar" didn't exist. It was never offered and never discussed when I ordered my coffee. The food was ok. we had the bealgian waffles, breakfast sandwiches, bacon and eggs. All stuff we could have made at home. Also got the coffee cake and it was dry with a lackluster filling. Maybe it was an off day but not worth going back to find out. Pro: Prices were reasonable for food. read more

Well it's been a number of years since I've been in this place and I wanted to give it another shot. It has many positive reviews the restaurant itself is clean and well organized. Wait staff was adequate For the area there is a tremendous shortage of help in this area so service can be spotty at best. They had hash as a daily special so I thought I would give it a try. I should have asked first but all it was was canned hash and not particularly good breakfast did not come with home fries which are a required side with hash in my opinion. My wife said her omelette was OK again nothing special. We had a large group 4 adults and 4 kids, COVID-19 complications made the wait longer. We sat inside at a smaller room distanced from others. The food took some time and I wanted a blueberry scone they didnt have it so I ended up with a cranberry orange scone. There was a interesting open face sandwich with apples and peanut butter.
