2/20/26 Why venture into a place with so many poor reviews?…read moreWhy take that risk? A taste for Adventure I would say. The need to confirm, or to set the record straight. So, here goes: Abbie, the waitress , was sweet, all smiles, welcoming, anxious to please. The place is on a main street with easy parking, is clean, sparkling, inviting. But I was the only patron... One has a choice of salsas- I had the corn- mild, a mix of flavors, very good. I had a small wings- Buffalo sauce- with blue cheese dip- I have honestly never tasted better. Astounding. The enchiladas were beef with chili con queso- Too rich. Couldn't finish them. In sum- a pleasant surprise considering the preceding negative reviews- I will stop again next time through.

We decided to check it out for weekend brunch. We were the only ones there, which surprised us, because the space itself is adorable and beautifully done. I ordered the breakfast tacos, and my husband had the breakfast burrito--both were incredibly fresh and absolutely delicious. We left thinking... okay, maybe that was just a fluke. Fast forward a few days later, and we went back for lunch--still puzzled by all the terrible reviews after such a great brunch experience. We started with the nachos, and once again--amazing. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and thoughtfully prepared. We had planned on ordering more, but the nachos were more than enough for two (honestly, probably three). We're already excited to go back and keep trying more items on the menu. Our server, Katie, was exceptional. She was warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful when explaining the menu and drink options. Her service really elevated the experience. All in all, we're genuinely confused by the negative reviews. Maybe things were different early on and they had to work out the kinks, or maybe expectations of Mexican food vary (you know what I'm talking about, those "chain" restaurants where everything tastes like it just came out of a can from Sysco) more than we realize. What we can say is that every visit we've had has been excellent, and we'll definitely continue supporting this spot.

I love the fact we could make and change our reservation via Open Table, which removes the uncertainty. I saw that it was recommended as well. I'm glad we did, because while it may not look busy, the restaurant fills quickly once all of the reservation parties arrive. The good news, is they have a decent sized bar, so if you are by yourself, you can find a seat typically around dinner during the week. We were politely greeted when we arrive and brought to your table, once side was wooden bench seating and the other was a chair option. It was comfortable. There wasn't a TON of space in between tables, especially if they are moving tables around to accommodate larger parties. Squeezing in between can get kind of awkard, especially in the winter with jackets. My recommendation make sure your plates and glasses are as far from the edge of the table as you can make them. one of our plates, was bumped/nudged by a butt as a person at the next table got up to leave. Luckily, the food wasn't touched. Food and drink were delicious! I love the fact they have creative non-alcohol options - so spritzy and delicious. I look forward to returning when I'm not driving to try their drinks with spirits. They are very creative with their concoctions. I had the scotch egg to start - so good, I made my friend try a bite, since she had never had one. Savory, i loved the mustard they served with it as well. Yolk was perfectly how I like it. My friend got the fried jumbo shrimp! HOLY JUMBO !!! She enjoyed them and had plenty of leftovers to bring home. I had the fish and chips...They should also use Jumbo in the description. I don't think i have ever had a piece of fish so large in a fish and chips dish. I ate about 1/3 of it and half of my fries and had to take the rest home. It was crispy and delicious and the leftovers will tasted great. The environment was cozy and because of that, it can get VERY LOUD - small space with a lot of conversations. My apple watch went off a few times with a decibel warning. Our server was prompt, helpful and accurate. Parking is parallel street parking if you don't want to pay. We were able to easily find parking on a Wed night for a 6pm reservation. I look forward to returning to try other dishes...Next time, I will be sure to save room for dessert!

We had the Bistro Burger and the Steak and Ale Pie. Best burger I ever ate. Never had a burger melt in my mouth that way-so juicy and flavorful and whatever's in that Bistro sauce was delicious. The smashburgers and fries were a hit as well. The vegetable Wellington was delicious- really didn't know what to expect but it was a cool take on a tired classic. We visited midday, and the staff was all so friendly. They let us pick our seat outside (it wasn't busy yet) so we could be in the shade but still enjoy the heat and flowers and birds; and, they were so patient with us when we were definitely not (on multiple occasions) ready to order. When we offhandedly remarked how parched we were, our server hooked us up with BIG water glasses - and really, it's the little things like that that set a place apart. The drinks were good! I got a mocktail that tasted like a jazzed up Shirley Temple. Appreciate that they have mocktails for, as of writing this, under $10. For me, however, the food was a let down. While there's plenty of gluten-free options, the vegan options are almost non-existent. It seems like it's $20 for a plate of cold vegetables, $20 for a plate of grilled vegetables, or $20 for a pizza with red sauce and more grilled vegetables. The pizzas themselves are kind of small, I think. It says 12", but when ours arrived... it looked like the same size that I might slide out of a frozen pizza from the store. If you've got no dietary restrictions, you'll probably feel differently than me, but I wouldn't come here to eat. Actually, my recommendation is this: come an hour before they open, park your car, and go wander their genuinely lovely trail system. It's mostly flat (there are some rooty areas), and there's SO. MUCH. COOL. ART. to look at. At least one piece will make you smile and become something you talk about later... when you're sitting at the restaurant outside (the Adirondack chairs overlooking the woods is very Maine) enjoying a cocktail.

The bread and butter was divine, the burrata... superb. We were hesitant on what to get for dinner and decided on the Caesar salad with steak (cop out entree choice, which I can acknowledge). We got four little pieces of steak, were not asked about the temp of our steak, and the salad was something you could buy at a store. I am aware that a Caesar salad is by no means a complex choice, but you would figure with the local and better than chain style vibes, the Caesar would give at least those large chunks of Parmesan. The menu said "anchovies, sourdough croutons, Parmesan". There were no anchovies, the dressing tasted watered down or barely there (the dressing is everything in an "upscale" Caesar salad imo) and the Parmesan was small, and gave no flavor. I would 100% go here again, although I was not satisfied with my entree. Every other meal that went past us was divine looking, and I think unfortunately the flaw in this restaurant is their Caesar salad, but everything else made it so worth it!

From musty dive hotel bar, and not one of the fun ones (well there was this one older lady that would serve you the strongest drink of your life whether you told her you were driving or not but other than that), to fine dining. Beyond impressed! This place is BEAUTIFUL and I don't know how they did it, but it doesn't have that smell anymore. And anyone that has been there in the past knows exactly what I'm talking about. Kinda like your grandmother's basement after a flood from 15 years ago that no one probably cleaned up. Yeah you know the smell. The short ribs were gorgeous, the reduction was perfect and the wild mushroom au gratin was heavenly. NY strip was perfectly tender, seasoned well and cooked to perfection. I'm never surprised anymore when a restaurant forgets what "medium" actually is. Sadly, I'm at the point where I'm surprised when they get it right. Pleasantly, but still surprised. This place, definitely gets my vote when I go to Freeport to spoil myself. If you haven't gone here yet, you're doing it wrong.

It took a few minutes to be seated, since no one was manning the reception station. Apparently that's waitstaff's job - when they're not doing 100 other things. This is an oversight on the restaurant's part and something I pointed out to the manager. Once we were seated though, our experience blossomed into something really wonderful. Neither my mother nor I ordered appetizers.... Since we figured that lunch would be enough (it was). They don't serve bread or crackers or anything as a gratuity - which is probably a cost-saving as well as time-saving measure. It also forces you into buying one of their "small plates" (appetizers), which looked wonderful but were also quite pricey. We also didn't order alcohol- which probably saved us between $30 and $50, since their cocktails were $15 and upwards. Same is true with their wines. Appealing but pricey. I ordered the beef short rib entree ($38) (see attached photo) with a small Caesar salad and their wild mushroom ragout. The beef was some of the best I've ever had. It was fork-tender, juicy, and flavorful in ways that are hard to describe. As for the wild mushroom ragout.... It was cheesy and delicious, but lacked any visible mushroom. I told our waitress so and I hope she passed it on to the chef. My mother ordered their Grilled salmon, served on a bed of cranberry quinoa and topped with an avocado sauce that was amazing (see photo). ($41). The food was so good that there was no hope of taking any home. We wiped out everything! (See photo) We hard coffee with our meal and with taxes and tip, the bill came to $118. Well worth it for such a fabulous meal. We'll go back, but with my father and eldest daughter in tow next time!!

The bun was not good at all, and I know it is probably mainly because it is GF, but it's just a shame we can't get better GF bread easier nowadays, and we pay more to have it. The amount of lobster was also super disappointing, which was frustrating because I thought I saw someone else with a lobster roll that looked pretty substantial. My mom got the fried shrimp basket and the shrimp were so tiny, similar to what you'd get at a fast food place when you order shrimp. Terrible! My bill was over $200 for 7 of us, and I left feeling disappointed about how they executed GF and the quality of their seafood.
