I left a lengthy review yesterday about how much I love this store, only to realize after I hit submit that I'd left the review for Pensacola instead of Destin. The Destin store is awesome. The employees are wonderful, everything is well organized, they have a great selection of books and gifts. I love checking out the clearance area for great deals to set aside for upcoming birthdays or secret Santa at Christmas time. Girl in the coffee shop, Laken, was so pleasant and informative. She helped me to renew my membership and we had a nice discussion on how great it is to still have such awesome bookstores. Absolutely recommend the Destin Barnes & Noble! read more

They are requiring masks here even though the mayor does not require them in the city. No other business in Destin is requiring customers to wear masks except this particular Barnes and Noble. Well, I guess Ill be ordering my books online now cause I wont be wearing a mask for this one business when no one else is enforcing this in the entire city. read more

Very nice store with friendly and helpful associates, but my experience in trying to find the books I wanted was disappointing. Specifically, I asked for the Amazon #1 best seller "The Real Anthony Fauci" by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The store did not have the book. They had the book listed in their computer system with the note "Do not Order" beside it. Not sure what's with that. I then asked where their section of new paperback books was. I was informed by two employees that they do not have a section for new paperbacks, the books are instead stocked among the hard cover books. I then looked among the new hard cover books and found no paperbacks there. Go figure. I like to see the new paperbacks in the event that one of my favorite author's hardcover books has finally been issued in a cheaper paperback version. Guess I'm better off going to Walmart for that. Makes me wonder why I pay an annual fee to be a Barnes & Noble "member".... read more

Why don't they have a search available for a particular book? I am looking for a particular book but they don't have a way of finding whether they have or not, or if in the event that they don't have it, whether or not they can get it. They should offer a search online without having to call the store. Very disappointing. read more

As giant bookstores go, this is one of my favorites. You can spend a lot of time in here. Despite it's "Walmart of Literature" size, the design, lighting and decorum make you feel like you're actually an intellectual looking for something good to read rather than a shopping sheep being blinded by florescent lighting in a Capitalist pen. But back to simpler language. You know what B&N carries. The staff here are always very helpful and on top of things. They love talking about what's good; whether it's old or new. Most of the staff that I've talked to has been extremely knowledgeable about books. Along with the armchairs, work tables and coffee shop, you get a very warm, welcoming place to be bookish. read more

I would give this place negative stars if I could. I tried calling this store multiple times to see if they had a book in stock. After waiting on hold for 20 min and getting the line cut- I decided to call the Pensacola store to see if the Destin store had the textbook I needed. They confirmed that they had the two books I needed in stock. So driving from Navarre to Destin in the sheet rain, I decided to call this store once more. FINALLY I got through to someone. They had no idea what I was talking about and said that they never have those books in stock. They also noted that the phones weren't an issue and clearly it must be on my end. Oh really? After asking for a manager, they informed me that the books I needed were indeed NOT in stock and generally sell pretty quick. And that their phone issue was something that they were aware of and they were going to get fixed. One would think they'd offer express shipping or be able to get it in stock as soon as possible, but I was bushed off. This honestly isn't the first time I've had horrible customer service here. Most of the time there's no one there to help you and you've got to scan through the whole store to find someone. Or the cashier is some old woman who takes 5 min checking you out. I'm GLAD Amazon is buying these stores out. I'm hoping that can finally bring some good customer service here. read more

As soon as we entered the store an associate and I presume someone in training zoomed right in and followed us around non stop recommending books and Father's Day gifts. Very annoying. I wonder if they work on commission. One of the joys of Barnes & Noble is being able to browse without being bothered. I hope that this is not a new policy, as this is very distressing to me, as well as others. read more

Visited with my daughter who has recently gotten back into reading books. Enjoyed grabbing a coffee from Starbucks where they were very friendly and then made our way over to the books. I then asked the women working behind the round platform in the middle of the store where the rest room was and got the dirtiest look and she lifted her pen in the direction of the bathroom. Not sure what that was all about because it's clearly a public restroom but she seemed very put out. Then she proceeded to follow me to the bathroom area and went into I'm assuming the employee lounge. As I was coming out of the bathroom she was coming in and again gave me the dirtiest look like I was in there to long or up to something. I've never been made to feel so uncomfortable and I've lived in Destin most of my life. There didn't seem to be many people in the store and if she's treating others the way she treated me I can see why. I will definitely be spending my money elsewhere from now on even if they do have Starbucks I'd rather hit the driver thru one across the street and the bookstore at the Commons. read more

The book selection is awesome. However, the bathrooms were gross! Two of the ladies stalls, the toilets were not flushed and there was toilet paper all over the floor. I heard a teenager telling his mom that there was a half eaten pie on the counter in the mens restroom. Do they not clean this place??? read more

I could spend all day in here! The way it's organized makes it very easy to navigate your way through. The staff is friendly/helpful, prices are fair and there is a large Starbucks inside. What else could you want? Oh yea, I want the music department back... read more

This is a great location. Its located across from Destin Commons, so this was a plus for me. Friendly staff and had everything I needed for the nerd in me and things I didn't need. I got a game for a gift for someone that cost $2 it was wonderful. read more

I love the customer service here. We were recently in here to buy books for a baby shower and the help we received was phenomenal. Not only did they help us find exactly what we were looking for they gave us many different suggestions from their own childhood but they also enjoyed doing it and really went out of their way to give us a fantastic customer service experience and help us find what we really wanted to find. Not only that but I was pointed to a series of books that I would have never found on my own. Good Omens is my favorite book of all time but I didn't know Terry Pratchett was such a well-known and amazing author. I am now hooked into the Terry Pratchett universe and I owe the amazing customer service of Barnes & Noble to my new-found favorite series of books to read. Keep it up guys good job! read more

On occasion I'll take a trip to B&N to purchase hard-to-find business magazines. I found a Linux Magazine for my honey with a price of £6.00. The magazine would not scan a price and after several attempts of the cashier trying to manually enter in the UPC code, she called the manager-on-duty. Since there wasn't another scannable copy, he attempted to search his database for a price. I thought, if the price was listed as £6.00, can't they just convert the British pounds to U.S dollars? I had suggested to the cashier converting the amount using an online calculator. She mentioned the manager was handling it. Well, the frustrated manager did and related to the cashier that the price was $16. I perceived that price to be the don't-want-to-deal-with-this-anymore price. $9.23 would have been the correct conversion. Needless to say, we left the over-priced magazine. Our cashier was helpful but the manager-on-duty was a joke. Terrible customer service from the man-in-charge. read more

Barnes and Noble is my favorite place to lose a few hours, but today, an employee at this B&N location ruined it enough that I probably won't go back ever. We were running a quick stop before a birthday party and thought B&N would be where we could purchase neat different gift and there it was - a huge mine craft stop animation video maker. Because of the large size, they did not have bags big enough to wrap it. I did notice that they had gift wrap and asked the (only) cashier (David) if I could get it gift wrapped. He said that since he was the only worker up front, and given the fact he wasn't a very good wrapper, it wasn't a good idea. I asked if he could simply sell me the wrapping & I would be happy to wrap it. He said that he couldn't "allow" that. I said I thought that was ridiculous, but whatever, and gave him my card for payment. He continued to explain how he couldn't do it, and that it wasn't his fault that there was only one worker. I didn't really care at that point because now we needed another stop to get wrapping items. David became extremely flustered and nasty, called his manager, stating he was trying to help me but I was rude and unreasonable. He locked my receipt in the register and couldn't get in until a manager came to open his drawer. At this point, my husband said we don't need a receipt and we walked out with him continuing to fume about how rude I was. Don't worry - that's the last time we will darken those doors. read more
