This is also the best place to find little gifts; small notebooks, novelty items, even children's items. I will frequently pick things up to add to my stash of items when a little thank you or a remembrance is appreciated. The staff is great and eager to help (even when i have them hunting up half a title or something incorrect) so I rarely leave without what I came in for. read more

Always nice to know that there is still a physical bookstore to go to, when you're just trying to find that one special good book, the perfect cookbook and that hard to find magazine that no one else seems to carry. I've also gotten lots of really good little gifts, cards and toys as well, not to mention, a great place to meet a friend for a cup of coffee at the Starbucks. I always like coming here for my relatively frequent book buying sprees. Big store, friendly staff, and there's always some deal going on. The only thing that could make me not like this place is if they stopped selling books. Jill in particular has been very helpful whenever I'm looking for a recommendation! The Barnes & Noble inside Desert Ridge felt quite old and dusty, but it had a great selection of food in larger portions. The Starbucks inside wasn't clean, and the dark atmosphere didn't give off the best vibe. The whole place could really use some innovation, but the customer service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly, and they offered a wide variety of everything. As a Barnes & Noble enthusiast, I appreciated the unique small items they had, in addition to the huge selection of books. It was nice to walk around, get warm, and enjoy the cozy, chill atmosphere. Plus, it gave me a chance to explore and grab some great books for my flight back home. The value of the books was similar to California; not much different. The only real difference was the tax. read more

The B&N Starbucks inside charged me double for an item during a busy time, once I realized and went to notify the counter, they refused to refund the double charge... "do you have proof we only gave you one item?" I had the receipt Wow... they have security camera's, but the insult and damage was done. I will never give them my $ again read more

Good luck finding the fiction books at this location; you really have to hack through all the children's toys and about 8,000 notebooks to get to them. That said, if you were at a bookstore for everything but books, the games and random gifts are fun. But DO NOT use the bathroom at this location - I've been in nicer gas station bathrooms. It was incredibly dirty and there was no toilet paper, so the staff clearly isn't checking in as often as they should. And please have more than one cashier - checking out took forever. read more

I don't see many Barnes and Noble anymore. I used to go to a really nice one(Westside Pavilion, Pico & Westwood) in LA in the 90s that closed down. This store is in a nice, upscale mall in Desert Ridge(far north phoenix). The book selection is great and I also enjoyed a hot cup of Starbucks Java at their cafe. The atmosphere is nice with nice outdoor mallcourt seating as well. I subtract one star for no electric to charge my smart phone. Note: I did find some outlets to plug my phone next to the lit up palm trees in the outside mall court. Recommended bookshop and coffee/tea cafe. read more

Yet, there's something about going into a bookstore and opening a physical book, turning it over, thumbing through the pages, which the digital version just doesn't deliver. That feeling can still be found here. I picked up several titles of interest (checked my Goodreads to verify that I hadn't read any before, checked my library online to see if they could be found there--not everything is perfect in my digital world, and breathed deeply the aroma of ink on paper). For a Barnes and Noble, this location works if you are looking for mainstream/best sellers or some discounted coffee table books. It has variety but at the same time, the selection isn't as wide as I want it to be. I've also come to look for various books that aren't too obscure and they haven't had copies. There is usually only one person at the registers unless it's holiday season. It doesn't bother me, just expect to wait a few minutes to check out. The bathrooms are pretty dated and not so nice. I get most people probably don't care but I have had to use them before. Again, not a total dealbreaker, just an observation. Overall, it's average, but I usually rather try a used book shop first at this point. read more

This has got to be the best kids area I have taken my kiddos to to see the newest books available! They loved getting to play with the train table and read to each other at the mini tables and theater provided. Also had a great experience with the Starbucks in store! I've been in Corp America, Fortune 2+ for all of my life and the last twenty five I've been "in the room" during a number of rebranding, reimagining, prototype updates, wayfinding, retail anthropology presentations, freshening décor and on and on. Basically, Retail needs to stay fresh and stay relevant. And when you're on the retail death watch because your biggest competitor is Amazon and they sell more books than everyone on the planet combined, there is little margin for error. B&N is walking on a razors edge. . .and winning in my opinion. If book were their only category, they would still be winning. Yeah, you can go Amazon and find the exact book you're looking for and maybe be enticed to buy something else by their uber-smart algorithms. But the delight of browsing books in a book store is something I pray we as a society never lose. B&N is escapism at its finest. Clear your mind and just walk up and down the aisles. If your budget isn't a concern, I'd challenge you not to walk out with an arm full of books. There are just so many interesting topics and point of views- fascinating to say the least. So books, check-I expected that. The curated selection of other goods is something you really have to see to appreciate. Games, journals, the most eclectic greeting cards this side of Target, calendars, etc. Even if you're a library user and never buy books, you owe it to yourself to check out Barnes & Noble just for the incredible way they have remained relevant in this challenging retail environment. Yes, books are higher at B&N, I paid approximately 30% more for my new Bobby Flay cookbook (+$10) and don't like it that you have to buy a membership here to save money-and then its only 10%. But gripping aside, this isn't about (just) supporting bookstores (it is) but more about celebrating and recognizing a truly innovative retailer. Next time you're close to a B&N, stop by-I think you'll really enjoy it. read more

This is definitely my favorite B&N in the Phoenix metro area. Be it book releases, store events, or the holiday rush, they are always organized and pleasant. An employee finally talked me into becoming a member, and it has really paid off. The 10% member discount, combined with the email discounts, which range from 20-30% off, for a total of 30-40% off your purchase. You do have to pay attention though. Sometimes, they don't take the right amount; for example, Christmas Eve, the cashier took of 25% instead of 30%. The difference was less than $2 for my purchase, so it's not a big deal, just remember to make sure you get the appropriate discount. The employees are always helpful and they've always been well stocked for the things that I've needed and wanted, which is typically comic/Marvel/DC, classic novels, Harry Potter things, and vinyl. They have a nice vinyl selection. There is a Starbucks inside this location and they have no problem making the secret menu items, like the Pokemon Go drink. read more

What is the deal with the cashier lovejoy and her sunglasses. I have never known of an establishment that let their employees wear sunglasses while interacting with customers. Makes transaction very awkward and just plain rude. Which brings me to her attitude. Not a very good one. read more

Organized and well stocked bookstore! Nice to sit in the cafe although it is a bit dark inside and lighting is not that great. The cafe didn't have all the ingredients to make a Caramel crunch coffee beverage so they should not be charging Starbucks prices. Restrooms can do with an uplift, look very old and do not keep up with the modern bookstore. read more

I have been going to this Barnes & Noble for years. The first time I went I met a friend and we took our young kids there to play at the kids corner. We went yesterday and we did not see anything to play with at the kids corner so they played on the other side and the kids picked out books and stuffed animals and just sat on the stage. They had a blast. Until an employee came up and scolded us and said "you've been here for a long time and if you're not gonna buy the merchandise I kindly ask that you put it back, it's not for playing it's for purchasing." This is the problem. The kids were not damaging anything but simply play acting. They weren't even opening the books. She obviously doesn't have children because she could have made a game out of it and said, "I'm so glad you're having fun! Why don't we see who can put stuff back the fastest?" But she was condescending and rude. I wonder if she would have said the same thing to a the special needs child sitting on the floor in the kids corner pulling out books and reading them while the mother lay next to him reading a book. My friend and I have two children each and purchase all our books for their charter school there. We will never go back. read more

This is by far one of the best stores in the valley! I've been to pretty much all of them, but this one always surprises me with their selection and diversity of books, not to mention vinyls and their kids section is really great too. The most recent trip I was looking for magazines and various items to put in a get-well gift basket. Their magazine selection was amazing! Also, several employees stopped by to check if I needed anything. Barnes & Noble has sure gone downhill, at least at this location. When they first started popping up everywhere, they used to provide plenty of cozy spots to curl up with a book or laptop. Not so much anymore. This location has great hours and offers free wifi. BUT you won't be able to plug in anywhere, so come with batteries fully charged. There are only a handful of outlets scattered throughout the store, nowhere near tables. They got rid of their overstuffed chairs here. Now the big circle is filled with hard wooden chairs. Due to COVID they took kids play train table, which I agree, but they took all seating around kids area and complain when you seat in that area (yes on the floor) with kids to entertain them for a little bit. You can still recommend limited time seating, but not only in adult area. Banes & Noble is known for their great selection of books and their in store cafes. Located in the Desert Ridge shopping plaza , this store is comparable to the rest. It has a large amount of floor space and is well organized. They have a large children's section. Everything is well labeled and organized by topic. It's almost as if you were in a library.
