The year was 1994 and Plano was still in its initial stages of exponential growth. Everyone was so excited that B&N was opening one of their huge and well stocked book stores. I spent many hours in this store over the years. Not so many lately as it has declined in a significant way. On a positive note they have recently opened a smaller store in the area. Today is the last day for the Plano location. They are officially closing this wonderful store. How sad. There is one located in Allen. A little more difficult to get to, but it's there. This location has been there as long as I can remember. Visiting recently though made me feel a bit nostalgic but a bit sad at the same time. In this online and e-book culture, bookstores are slowly dying. While as a customer, it's awesome to visit a bookstore like this with little to no foot traffic, I'm also a bit torn because that means there is probably less revenue coming in and that usually means store is on brink of closing down. I sincerely hope this one doesn't. Or at least do not replace it with yet another Home Goods type of store. I've read a bit of the other reviews here and am a bit suspicious on the intent. If the staff here were racist, you think that'd be more clear? I have seen that most of the time it's the customers' sensitivity or at most ill-conceived perception that's usually the culprit. But who knows. The staff in question was not named and therefore couldn't defend him/herself. read more

If you're trying to find the newest titles and classics, you'll be able to find them here! I've been going here every Sunday after church for the last 10 years, and nothing has really changed over the years at this location. The books are a little more expensive than if you looked online (or anywhere else for that matter), but they have almost every book you can think of. Don't be afraid to ask the friendly staff for help, or if you need to look for a certain book! If you're a frequent flyer here, do yourself a favor and sign up for their B&N membership. It's $25, but if you shop here often enough, you'll end up saving a good amount with your membership discounts. The newest editions and releases of books are a bit pricey, so every discount helps! Overall, this is a great place to buy gifts or to buy new books. If you're looking for affordable or cheap, you're in the wrong place. A safer bet are other resale book stores and not B&N. It's a problem when a city is lacking a good bookstore. Barnes & Nobles usually fills the void as a chain. This slightly antiquated location is connected to a separate Starbucks, and in a way works as outsourcing what Barnes & Nobles used to have - a cafe and reading lounge. But if I can't sit down to look through books in a bookstore, Then I don't really consider it a bookstore. And to sit down, you'll have to go to the next door Starbucks. But to get there with books, you have to buy the books first. Defeats the purpose. At least Starbucks lover can rejoice that it is a full fledged Starbucks that accepts rewards and what not. They almost always have the books I am looking for in stock. They usually have more than I need too. The only issue I have is with the coupons sometimes because I have multiple accounts and they sometimes try to argue they can only take the one when I have 2 different memberships. I love books, my husband loves books, my son loves books. I have so many books on my wish list and need to read list. I love this location though. read more

I came in looking for some books by Ann Rice, and Dan Brown. I was able to find what I needed with the assistance of a very helpful staff. They also have a nice music section that includes awesome vinyl albums. My only concern was that some of the cds from popular artist are a bit too expensive. I purchased "The Beatles For Sale" cd for $18.99 which was extreme, but I was already there, and that was the only cd missing from my Beatles collection. Overall, Barnes And Noble has everything that you would want, of course including audio books. read more

I'm a frequent flyer on E-reader services. E-Books are great for casual reading. But for studying something? I need a paper book to read, highlight & make notes. I'm studying for a technical certification and wanted to see if this store would have anything for my specific subject. The staff in this store were SO friendly and helpful even though I came in 20 minutes before closing. I *miss* bookstores!! This one is wonderful. This was the second B&N I stopped in at to get a Nook for my dad for Christmas. There was no one at the Nook counter, and three very unbusy associates behind the check out counters within direct sight of us. After about five minutes we asked if we could get some help. The associate who walked over wasn't knowledgeable or helpful; obviously she was doing me a big favor by showing up to work that day. I ended up buying only the Nook, but walked away without the cover, Nook books, and accessories I wanted to get that day (which I'll buy online later). If I hadn't wanted to pick up the gift in person I would have left because of how unhelpful the associate was. This was a really disappointing experience and next time I'll find a different B&N to buy books from. read more

Got my Dad a nook from here and anytime he has a problem with that he can just go in and somebody that works in the store will answer all his questions. I was running late to a birthday party and remembered that I'd forgotten to get a gift so I called the store. Someone went and picked out the book that I asked for and had it at the register for me in order to save me time. I've never needed a book from here and that they didn't have at the time that I asked for it. I seriously love this place. Every time I walk in, I end up spending an unexpectedly large amount of money, but never end up regretting it. Not sure I feel that way about any other store. Pretty good selection at this location. I normally search for books online and this location seems to always have the book I'm looking for even when others in the metroplex do not. I usually reserve the book online and then go in and pick it up at the register; the entire process is very quick and seamless. The staff aren't the friendliest, but they aren't horrible. There is also a Starbucks connected to this place so you can enjoy a little lingering in that atmosphere if you like. read more

I went here with my girlfriend one time and we were holding hands just browsing the music section for a few minutes minding our own business, when we moved to the kids section 3 managers came up to us and asked us to leave. So I asked "why?" And they said I was "groping" my girlfriend inappropriately. I was shocked, confused, and a bit angry. I asked who reported this false information and they said it was another staff member, an elderly lady who was probably sad, alone, and jealous. I told them if they checked their security cameras I guaranteed they would not see me "groping" my girlfriend, but they wouldn't hear it. I asked if I could at least make my purchase before we left but they refused and forced us to leave immediately. I was furious but I let it go. Except for writing this angry complaint. read more

This is the worst bookstore I've been to. I usually love coming to Barnes and Noble and buy often from them. I came to this store for the first time since something I ordered on b&n site didn't work and the customer service asked me to stop by any b&n to get my books. I stopped by and there was a big difference in store vs online price. I asked them to match it since customer service said I need to pick up in store and the person said I need to place an order again. I was even ready to do it but the cherry on top was they said it'll take two hours to actually match the price. What????!!!! I had the book in hand, I was at counter and I was in the store ready to pay then and there. This is exactly why Barnes and Noble is losing ground to other sellers. They just don't want our business and don't understand customers are also busy. Very very disappointed with this store. Better that they close than to give such poor service. My nook no longer charged so I took it to Barnes & Noble. It turned out the charger didn't fit? They were out of the nook chargers. The manager said he tested the Home brand chargers and they worked with my nook. I bought it without testing. My bad. The charger does not work with the nook. His bad. Although I tried other chargers before, I found one that worked. Now I have to take this Home brand charger back. Not pleased. (3 stars because I didn't have to buy a new nook) read more

If you want great service locating a book these folks are the best. I needed a book on a foreign country and could not locate, however they were quick to point me in the right directions as well as offer serval alternatives they could quickly obtain on line. I had gone into this B&N location recently and had a bit of an irritating experience trying to exchange an item I had purchased less than two weeks from when I was exchanging. I did not have a receipt, and had just closed my BofA account I used to pay for said item so making the exchange wasn't going to be as simple as it normally would and I knew that going in however didn't expect the MOD (manager on duty) to handle the situation so poorly. First she told me that without my receipt or debit card I used to purchase the item with then she could do nothing for me. So I went home that evening and spent a good half hour speaking to the bank to get proof of purchase for the item I needed to swap out. Upon calling the store manager back and explaining to her the hoops I had jumped through to get proof purchase I was interrupted and spoken down to in a condescending tone to be told, "Well I didn't think that you were going to take it to THAT extent to have it swapped out so tell you what sir I'll go ahead and exchange it for you no worries." Julie, the manager who "helped" me, could have been a little more helpful and just exchanged the item in the first place rather than wasting two days time making me go back and forth with the bank to get copies of my statements only to tell me she didn't need any of that information to make the swap in addition to the two separate trips I had to make to their store! Definitely will not be spending my money at this location again. read more
