It's a problem when a city is lacking a good bookstore. Barnes & Nobles usually fills the void as a chain. And the concept of this location is a little different from the others I have seen. This slightly antiquated location is connected to a separate Starbucks and a GameStop, and in a way works as outsourcing what Barnes & Nobles used to have - a cafe and reading lounge. GameStop is something new. But if I can't sit down to look through books in a bookstore, Then I don't really consider it a bookstore. And to sit down, you'll have to go to the next door Starbucks. But to get there with books, you have to buy the books first. Defeats the purpose. At least Starbucks lover can rejoice that it is a full fledged Starbucks that accepts rewards and what not. But they can save that review for Starbucks. Not this smallish, 1-story Barnes & Nobles. Also, the one by downtown Plano is slightly bigger. Sure. I actually had a really good time in the store today looking for gifts. I spent about 200 and was sold on the membership of an extra 20 bucks. I was pretty clear that I don't really ever go to the physical location but was interested in the membership for ebooks on the nook. I agreed, paid, came home and found out that there is no discount for ebooks. The lady that checked me out was super nice, but I think it's pretty important that your staff knows the details on what they are pushing on you. Now I have to decide if I have the energy to go search for what I'm sure is an over complicated way to cancel. And I just realized that it auto renews (which wasn't explained). I feel like every store has this scam - counting on us to not remember in a year that we bought this membership (that we never use!) so they get another 20 bucks from me. Didn't get the name of the employee who went out of his way to find a couple of books for me last weekend, but I appreciated the customer service. He seemed to know exactly where the two books were that I was searching for. The store was clean and bookshelves organized. My one gripe is that the cashiers seem a little too quick to ring the books up at the in-store price and get you out the door, when the books may be discounted on the B&N website. They will still honor the website price however. read more

I'm writing about my experience at the Starbucks at this particular B&N at Stonebriar Mall(aka Frisco Mall). I like going to B&N(since they are the only book stores left standing and they have Starbucks inside), because I load up my Starbucks card and use it there. But I found out this particular Starbucks is owned by B&N and doesn't accept Starbucks gift card and no Apple Pay either. I immediately noticed the difference in the barista's attitude! I frequent at Starbucks where I can use my Starbucks gift card and they are always happy and nice, but this one wasn't too much, because she works for B&N and not Starbucks? Anyways, next time when I go to B&N that I've never been to before, I will make sure to ask if they are owned by B&N or Starbucks. I learned something new today. Btw, there is a Starbucks right next to Teavana right across from B&N at the mall! I give this Starbucks 2 stars, because there weren't people lined up to get coffee here(for an obvious reason)and the barista lady didn't look enthused and nothing there worked, no Starbucks card or Apple Pay. This location has a well stocked children's section ! I Jane a 7ur old daughter so we go through a lot of books . You can come a sit and read with the little one and they do have events and story time as well! They carry mostly the newer titles which is great . The books tend to be inclusive and relevant to what kids today are doing . If you have a list or a title in mind you can also ask the sales people to locate the book and they will notify you when the book arrives ! I love that ! The book selection is inclusive so we can find books with stories from different cultures , authors from different parts of the world too and what is happening in life right now ( politics , religion , etc ) . The store is clean, neat and well organized . Starbucks is next door so you can grab a beverage next door . We come here almost weekly and honestly I have no complains . Well stocked and friendly staff . A win win for a book lover . They do have programs and discounts that you can sign up for so you can save on your purchases , books do get expensive so check out your emails for coupons . It helps read more

I (Amy) walked into Barnes & Noble today to get the book pictured. The list price was $16.00. I showed the employee this picture. When she would not match the price I asked for a manager. I was told by the manager that it is company directive (she used that word) to not match the website prices due to profitability, store overhead, etc. I told her I would go across the street to half price books to get it, and she shrugged her shoulders, so I left. I probably won't be back. I will give my business to Amazon or better yet, the half price book store. Update: I was able to find the book at the Half Priced Book store for $5.99. Their employee even walked over to the section of the store to help find it. read more

I enjoy this book store and love the service! People there are friendly, very helpful and are doing a great job! I was there at least 30 minutes and 3 employs were offering to help me find what I was looking for. I was only there to browse through some books I was interested in but if I really needed help, I know they would be very helpful to me! One of the things I don't like about it is the size. I've been to other Barns And Noble and this one seems pretty small compared to the others. Also as I was browsing through books, I usually want to have a seat to look through some books, but they didn't really have many chairs or places to sit. And the few chairs they have are always taken. So I just sit on the floor looking through books and I would have to move to another spot if I was in someones way. It was nice to have a Starbucks right next to it but I couldn't go in and look through a book unless I have purchased it. It's a great location which is not too far from were I live and it's not always busy...at least the times i went in. =) This store is great if you already know what you want or trying to find help for what you are looking for. Over and all I would say the best thing about this location is the service. That's the one thing I noticed when I first walked in. =) read more

Bookstores are one of my happy places. I could spend hours in them and find myself leaving with more books than I have time to read! This Barnes & Noble is one of my favorites of the chain. It's located in a great area with lots of places to shop but it also has a good size Starbucks inside it. There's a great selection for all genres and they always have a few areas full of sale items. Unlike the other locations I feel like the recommended tables do actually have good reads on them. The musical section in the back is pretty large and the children's section as well. If you like GameStop this one surprisingly has one connected to it also. The staff is very polite and seem to share a passion of literature. Overall this is a great spot to stop by. read more

Brick-and-mortar book retailers like Barnes & Noble face ever increasing challenges in their battle to remain relevant to their customers. B&N's advantage over online retailers and discounters used to be their employees who would happily assist when you had questions and made you feel welcomed and appreciated. A few hours ago, for me and my family, they lost that battle. Kim, the Manager of this store, in an uncontrollable rage, humiliated me and slandered my wife while our 8 year old son and other shoppers witnessed. As it so happens, one of the customers is one of my son's teachers. My son loves Calvin and Hobbes books and I let him sit and read one while I stepped a few aisles away to look for a book I needed for a job, always aware of his location and that he would stay in the same spot. Kim approached him as he quietly read and asked who he came with. She called my name and I immediately appeared. Despite having never met before, Kim accused me and my wife, who wasn't even present at the time, of all sorts of untruthful, heinous things related to child abandonment, loudly and with a bitter, scornful tone. I didn't leave him unaccompanied, he was always within an earshot of me and our separation was so short that I didn't have time to find my book. It took everything I had to just take my son and walk away. Her actions were frightening, unwarranted and likely a violation of B&N's corporate policy. I will be contacting the District Manager and the Corporate Headquarters next in an effort to make sure she doesn't unload her pent up anger on other unsuspecting customers. I love book stores and don't want to see them become extinct. All of my previous experiences here have been quite pleasant with the employees very knowledgeable and accommodating. Many books in my collection were purchased from this same store. It's ironic that the person degrading me in front of my son and onlookers was that store's Manager. read more

Perfect place to browse for books! The staff is really friendly and attentive. They do not hesitate to help you find anything and everything! There's not that many seating areas like some other B&Ns, but there's a Starbucks attached. You can purchase your book/magazines read them there while sipping on your coffee! read more

This B&N is pretty good. They don't have a very big area to sit down and look at things before you purchase. The biggest seating area is in the kids department but I don't want to go there and seem like a perv. So I just make the purchase and get out. read more

I typically enjoy Barnes and Noble stores. This was a very different experience. A few of my lesbian friends and I were sitting in the kids section about 45 minutes to close. All of the seating was taken in Starbucks and in the store. The manager decided our game wasn't "appropriate" for the store and told us we had to leave. She didn't ask us to relocate or to put the game away. When my partner went back to ask for her managers number we found out she, Kim Springer, was the manager. She proceeded to tell her she needed to leave while letting others into the store. When she found out that the conversation was being recorded she turned around and flipped her off in the middle of the store. She topped it off by telling my partner, sarcastically, she was a "real pleasure" to work with. I, personally, won't be coming back to this store. I don't know if she has something against the gay community or not. But it was not a friendly environment. I will be calling her boss tomorrow and sending him the video. read more

I used to enjoy coming to this book store, until I found out that they don't contribute even small amounts to area charities. I was very rudely treated for even asking for a small contribution for our church. I was told that they handled that in their corporate office, so no investment in the local community, it didn't seem. I haven't stepped back in the bookstore since, and neither have many people in my church who live in the area and are heavy readers. So disappointing. read more
