I was doing errands and came in to check out the vinyl sale going on until April 3. I had fun perusing the aisles. This Barnes & Noble's has everything in it - a full café and magazine area near the front, restrooms towards the back for customers, toy and Lego section, manga and anime section, vinyl and DVDs from around the world, a full separate section for children, and the normal large selection of books and book products. I have a Barnes & Noble's premium membership so I like to check out the stores to see if there are any good books or deals. I get an automatic price reduction was a member. Today I bought some paper maps because I realized we had no updated maps in our car or house. I found those in the local interest area that also had a lot of cool books about Arizona. There's a center kiosk with a clerk if you have any questions about books as well as employees, walking the store and at the front register. read more

I bought my sister a $100 gift card, she scratched it off and part of the numbers did not show. With that being said, she went to this store to buy some books. They would not accept the card, she also had the receipt that I received with purchase! What is the point of getting a receipt if they will not accept it?????? This is unacceptable and illegal!!!! Great store location that a very large and includes a TON of options. There are lots of extra categories and sections. I love the game section and the massive Harry Potter themed section. Came in for a browse & to look for a specific box calendar. I did not find it but I found so much else. Barnes & Noble's generally has a good selection in store, but it is always so pricey. I could understand if this were a small mom and pop bookstore or a small business of some iteration. But it is not Barnes & Noble's is a mega conglomerate that has, a large number of stores across the country. So, it baffles my mind a bit as to why everything is so expensive at the store. I know that there is a rewards program you can purchase to be a member of & earn a certain percentage off your purchase price And I think that is helpful. I sometimes feel bad coming in to browse & finding things that I will inevitably purchase elsewhere because the prices are so high. They always have been. Obviously many people don't have an issue with it but it is off putting to me. Nice store. Nice selection of products. Many of the books I'm looking for, often times aren't available at this location, but it does serve its purpose. I'll likely keep coming in to browse but purchases are few & far between. read more

Stopped by this B&N today. It's unfortunate bookstores are a dying breed. Sadly enough, people want everything in digital form and don't care about the physical, tangible ability of holding a book. Super convenient location located on Bell Rd. in Surprise. Plenty of ample parking. Clean entryway. Store is very well laid out. You can browse and peruse and read til your hearts content. I take the girls here quarterly to pick out books. They love to read. Thry are ages 6 and 7 and are now into chapter books. They still like snuggly books with pictures at bedtime, but sitting down quietly to read thry enjoy a nice story. We like to come here for the latest releases, award winning classics, and books we can't find at our local library. A great place to find a gift as they offer a lot more than just books. This location has a Starbuck which runs as a separate entity from the chain. They no longer offer the kids program, but they now offer a rewards programs where you get a stamp for every $10 spent. They have bathrooms here too which is handy when you have kids. Keep an eye out for their deals and coupons on their website. I love bookstores and with Amazon and other electronic book offerings they are few and far between. I have been to a few around the valley and find them all similar in size and offerings. I had a Groupon coupon. Paid $5.00 for a $10.00 gift certificate. Took my teen here because my teen LOVES books. It's pretty easy to navigate around this store. The book shelves have big labels on the top so you can find things easier. Everything is neat and clean. There's a coffee/cafe in the middle of the store which makes the store smell great. We could of browsed a little longer but I had things to do and places to go. Found the book my teen wanted, used the Groupon and off we went. read more

The store itself is very clean and organized. I found a few of the things I was looking for pretty quick. I stopped by the cafe to get a tea stating they service Starbucks, but was so bummed that they literally have none of the drinks I usually get. The lady working couldn't or I should say acted more like wouldn't even give me options of something close to it. I ended up with basic green tea. Service is pretty lacking at this location. There was quite a long line to check out and only one employee in sight. I was grateful I found a book I've been dying to read. Not the worst location. I wish there was more I could say but nothing stands out. read more

This location is very large and very organized. The coffee shop smelt amazing and with a large crowd the store was still quiet. Bathrooms were also clean. I take away a star because a few selections were not available (the primal wound, any adoption book, any book on the Yaqui tribe), however any book they are willing and able to order for you. I was also sad to see the Native American section only be a shelf. Otherwise fun enjoyable trip! read more

I'm a reading specialist and I'm doing a theme of a book and a buddy (stuffed animal) that my students can read in class or take home. She did a fantastic job! Showed me all kinds of great combinations and looked up books to go with each one! Love that all the staff was wearing masks; however, I was not thrilled that it was posted that they'd be open until 8PM. I normally try to avoid Amazon whenever possible, and try to stick to local bookstores, but I was in the market to buy a new book on Tuesday.  After purchasing, I walked around the store to find other things I might be interested in.  If you know about this store, you know they have cover art work from some of the greatest books in modern history on the wall.  Among this collection was the cover art for "Atlas Shrugged" amongst other great books like "Of Mice and Men" and "The Great Gatsby".  I'll never shop at another BandN because in no way, shape or form, should "Atlas Shrugged" be promoted to anyone, except as what not to read as it is utter garbage and propaganda for the new Nazi party. read more

i usually go here quite often and never had a problem, but tonight i went here and felt rushed, untrusted, and just overall very uncomfortable. from the moment i walked in i had a manager follow me around as if i was going to steal something. he literally followed us up to the register and WATCHED me pay as he was almost guarding the door from literally just us as if i shoved 8 books in my SHORTS. the real kicker is how he only did it to me and not anyone else. thank you barnes and noble for making me feel extremely uncomfortable and not want to come back ever! read more

I'm a writer and of course bookstores are heaven to me. I have been attending writers meetings in this particular Barnes and nobles for many years. Each time, having dinner at the cafe, buying books and attending the meetings. Two Wednesdays a month I looked forward to bliss until the past Wednesday when the manager told the organizer that the meetings could no longer happen there! Very disappointing! I was actually disappointed in my recent experience at Barnes & Noble. I recently went into this particular store in search of a certain book trilogy that has been hyped up in the media. Anyhow, I entered here and was not greeted as I am use to back in Iowa. I roamed around looking for what I was after for a bit of time, as the associate at the service counter appeared busy on the phone. Was it a business call or personal?!? The associates I encountered seemed as if they were annoyed and didn't care for their jobs. The young man at the register also left a lot to be desired. It were as if he were a robot. I'll give the place another chance in the future, due to the proximity to home. However, I won't expect good customer service. A firm two stars simply because of location. read more

Plain and simple, I love books. So as you can imagine, Barnes and Noble really satisfies my love for all things written! Although I usually purchase my books online at barnesandnoble.com, I do enjoy browsing the bookstore when I have some free time. And if I am looking for something in particular, I always find the staff to be super helpful and knowledgeable. There is even a B & N Cafe which serves sandwiches, soups, pastries, coffee, tea and water. One of my favorite things to do is to grab a tea at the cafe, then snuggle up in a chair in the back of the store and read. If you buy a lot of books, definitely take advantage of the BN Membership. My husband and I love this store. It is a treat to go there and browse or quickly find a targeted item. My favorite lunch there is a cup of chili and a glass of water. This B&N is fairly new - less than 5 years I think. The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Like most B&N's they allow and encourage browsing of magazines and books alike. I love Barnes & Noble and this location is great. I also have one of their tablets and they've top notch in helping me figure out what I've done and how to fix what I've done. The selection is great and if it's not on the shelf they've always been great about ordering it and having it delivered to the store for you. The cafe area is a great little coffee shop area. I understand that the signs say Starbucks, however, sometimes they have a few extra drinks on the menu that you can't get anywhere else and I think that's fabulous. read more
