Thank goodness there are still a few bookstores left. Barnes and Noble has always been my happy place and the Fairfield store is warm and welcoming. I usually stop in at the Cafe for a mocha or hot chocolate and then spend an hour or two collecting all of the books that I imagine I should buy (even though I already have a stack at home). Then I take them to a quiet corner, read them and weed them out. The staff always makes me feel so welcome and I do end up buying a big stack of books even though I tell myself that I won't. I love this Barnes and noble. Very organized and clean. They have so many books any book I have ever wanted I found here. Also they have a good movie selection a lot of old classics and TV shows also all of the new DVDs. The staff is great always helpful to lead you to your favorite book because it could be hectic finding it with all of the inventory. Once I had a convo with the cashier for 10 minutes probably about a book I was purchasing, she was great (no one behind us in line lol) Nice coffee and pastry shop inside which is delicious with decent prices. This Barnes & Noble is great!! I live around the corner from this location so I come here often. Employees are friendly and it's easy to waste some time here checking out books & magazines. They could use additional seating in the store for when people want to lounge. But it's okay. I have a kindle so I usually purchase books using that, however I like to come here and see what's new, and no matter what, an e-reader will never replace REAL books :) If you can find one, I recommend printing a coupon from the Internet to save some money on books, store prices are outrageous and you can get better deals from their website or even Amazon. read more

***Review for Cafe Decent cafe. I dropped them down a star for the fact that the one woman cafe employee is insistent on you buying food or a drink if you want to sit in the cafe area. She approaches you as soon as you sit down to offer a menu and states that you must buy something in order to sit down, otherwise she directs you to sit at the chairs elsewhere in Barnes. I understand the business principal here, but before they weren't this strict. Can I sit down and get situated for a bit till I order something? Instead, of being shooed away. That's what her demeanor showed. "You better buy now or else..." If I was alone, I would have left. I no longer felt comfortable. I doubt I will come here again unless I want a cheesecake... I'll be going to Starbucks for a sit down drink and my studies. read more

I now understand why Barnes & Noble is on hard times. It's not because of Amazon, or the economy, it's because of them. When the girls were little I would come here all the time. I'd find the books I wanted and go hang out in the coffee shop until the girls were ready. I plugged in my computer and got a coffee. I was perfectly happy to wait as long as it took, even though the longer we were there the bigger the stack I'd end up buying was. When the girls wanted to go to the mall I'd go hang out at Barnes & Noble with my laptop. I'd get a coffee, and would never leave without at least one book. That Barnes & Noble is dead, killed by it's own policies. Cheryl had an appointment with a client, so I thought I haven't been to Barnes & Noble for a long time, I'll go there to wait. Now I remember why I stopped coming. The electrical sockets have all been covered over. And the nice areas to hang out aren't comfortable anymore. It appears they don't want my business. Their "Starbucks" won't even take a Starbucks card. So I'll go back to hanging out in my own home and waited two days for the books I want to come directly to me. Barnes & Noble, you deserve to go out of business. If I want Starbucks I'll go to a real Starbucks that treats me like they actually want me there. I will never be back. read more

Now that the Walden's/Border's Express has closed this is the only bookstore in town. And I have to say, this location is great. The staff is well trained and friendly and will be happy to recommend you some books if you're unsure. Also if you can't find something there as always, they are more than willing to special order a book and call you as soon as it arrives. read more

Awesome place to bring the kids. Wish there were more book stores, they are a dying breed. So many helpful staff members roaming the aisle. Love the toy and trinket sections. Starbucks coffee and cheesecake/cake/pie always awesome. Sometimes a little expensive, but the clearance section always has wonderful things that you never knew you wanted. Membership program is free and worth it if you shop a lot. I have an e-reader on my ipad, but the tactile sensation of books and magazines cannot be beat. The DVD/CD section is there, but kind of pricey. read more

I go to a lot of book stores and i've been through a lot of Barnes & Nobles, i'd have to say that one of my favorite is the Fairfield location. Of course it's local to where i am so I have to say it's my favorite. im bummed Vallejo doesnt have a freakin book store so i usually try to make it up here and when i do i can always find what im looking for, except my only complaint and im not marking them down for it is that there wedding section is in a CORNER and normally i have to go later in the afternoon when catering/planning people who are working in the wedding industry arent in the way, because its a section where if someone is looking for something then they block EVERYTHING... also if i CANT find what i want customer service is so sweet. They will look up to make sure they have or do not have the product and special order it right away and i will get a nice phone call when the product is in the store. Love it! read more

I like to go in and wander. The checkout is fairly quick, and friendly. They usually have what I need in stock. I don't remember having to special order much. The CD selection is great. I can find what I want and make some new good finds. The clerks in the CD department are friendly and like to see what you buy. They're knowledgeable and you can tell they like their jobs. The Starbucks place is good with good service. This is a nice B&N. What can I say. read more

While the selection of books/magazines are endless, I have to give them 2 stars for customer service. There's like 9 cash registers upfront. The only 1 cashier is located at register 1, way the fuck at the end. When a line forms, the only cashier calls for backup. Another cashier comes and login at register 2. What a disappointing company. My son received several copies of the same boxed book set for his birthday, and I went in trying to exchange for a new book. The manager refused to allow the return, citing the 14 day return policy, which had passed. The book set was still in the original plastic wrap, and clearly had not been opened or read. The store manager also refused, according to the first manager. I had planned to exchange the set, and purchase several other books for myself and my son, but I will now take my business elsewhere. For my 4 year old, this isn't just a bookstore. It's also the location of the stage for her one-kid shows, the train set that could occupy her for hours and all the books her sweet little heart desires. Yes, it's all those things and more. The stage in the children's area gets used for children's story time and you'll often find parents reading to their kids or my kid performing her heart out for the world to see. If you're bringing a kid, expect to spend a good amount of time in here. The children's area is fenced in with bookshelves too and it allows me to shop around a bit while keeping her nearby. The staff I've encountered at this location could best be described as hit or miss. I've called a couple times to have books placed on hold at the register for pickup and service there isn't always great. I've had an employee scoff at me for not being more aware that the book I was requesting was a hot seller. I've also come to pick up my book well within the time frame to retrieve it and only then does the employee go and fetch my selection. What's the point of calling ahead if they're only going to get it when I'm standing there waiting? *sigh* Don't get me wrong, there are great employees here too, seems like fewer and fewer each time I come though. The cashiers seem to be very work oriented and aren't typically very friendly. Just wham, bam, thank you ma'am and you're done. Nice that they aren't goofing around each time a customer comes, but geez, there isn't a line or anything...can I at least get a smile? I love that they have a Starbucks inside the store here too. I don't love that the seats are almost always full each time I come though. There is outdoor seating too, but there's almost always at least one person smoking cigarettes right outside the door and I'm not down with that. As other reviews have noted as well, they sell Cheesecake Factory treats here. That, I can get down with. So here it is Solano county - a smorgasbord of books, magazines, cheesecake and dancing 4 year olds. If you need one of those things, come on down. They'll even order a book for you if they don't have it. read more

Best experience I've had at a Barnes & Noble thus far! I came in looking for two authors whose genre couldn't be more different and the gentleman was able to help me find both! He took me straight to them and we even talked about them a little. Then I went to the checkout area and this wonderful woman with a cute fro was very kind and helpful and we talked about enjoying working for Barnes and noble (on her end) and enjoying being a member (on my end). Where does one go after the mall closes in this town (as we all know things run abundant to do here anyway!)? Simple, Barne's & Noble. You can browse the magazines, books, see a familiar face (since everyone seems to know at least one employee there), sip on that latte, and sit outside and talk with your friends. The college students have a place to highlight those textbooks and notes, and there's a section for everyone. read more

I'm posting on both of their entries. I went here, grabbed a few books I was leafing through. Went back, didn't put those back, grabbed a few more. Ended up with a large pile I was going to buy at least five of. An employee walked by, told me I wasn't allowed to have that many books because they couldn't sell them. Because I shouldn't look through them before buying I guess. My bad. In front of another customer. Humiliated me. I went and bought the books on amazon. Cost less and cost me about 100 dollars. You lost a customer AND a large sale. And when I emailed corporate to complain I got a canned sorry. No wonder book stores are going out of business. Customer service like that you should. don't go here for books. they usually never have anything of importance. i go here for their starbucks. they have the best desserts!!! make sure you buy the caramel brownie or a cheesecake slice. be aware that it is usually busy and the starbucks cafe is understaffed. read more

Every time I have been to Barnes and Noble I always have a good experience. I don't really buy many books here but if i'm in the area i'll buy one or two. They have a great selection on all types of books (trust me I've been to bookstores that just have the bare minimal). All in all good experience but it could be better. Used to love this place....for years. Last friday, my husband and I went in to take our Little Brother (We are mentors for Big Brother Big Sister) to the book store, which is our normal routine. This time, my husband had a book that he purchased 3-4 weeks before, but had to submit his receipt to work, he was bringing it to do additional research and possibly find another book that would not have the same info...so I told him he should let someone know so they can give him a book mark or business card to show that he walked in with the book. To my surprise, we were told by the General Manager, Sophia Garman, that its against policy to allow us in without a receipt. Not only were we surprised, when we asked if their could be an acception and offered that she could write in the book, she was short and curt and then proceeded to question why the book looked so NEW. Of course, our impresssion is that she was now wondering if we stole it. To make a long story short, the shocck and embarassment in front of customers, our LITLLE Brother, and even the security guard was unmeasurable. I even went back 30 minutes later to try and make ammends to clarify what happened and why they are so unacommadating. I was talked over, dismissed, and basically told too bad, too sad, your perception is way off and I wasn't accusing you of stealing. This is corporate policy. I know that others bring books, do research, do homework and I am SURE not every single person has a receipt. I even asked a few because I couldn't belive what was happening. Waiting to see the corporate policy in writing. Emailed coroporate and customer service b/c I was so hurt. All in all...I loved sharing this place with my Little. Now I feel violated, disappointed, and sad. All because I wanted to tell someone I was bringing in a book. Even Walmart will give you a sticker when you come in with a bag. So I am not surprised that there are no plugs for computers, when they have free wifi, that the starbucks won't take SB gift cards, that book stores in general are going out of business. The customer service from staff have never been anything but great but I just don't understand why they would make decisions that would hurt the people that support you. read more

A lady came into this Barnes and Noble location with a mentally handicapped man. She sat and read while he laid his head down on the table and ended up falling asleep. When the lady got up and left the table for a minute to get a new magazine, a woman who works at the store came over to the man, grabbed him, and stated loudly, "Sir, get up! There's no sleeping in the store!" The poor man was startled awake and looked about as though confused. I personally feel this manager/ supervisor looking woman should know better than to grab people and shout at them in such a manner. I believe a simple, more professional approach would have been better in this situation. The lady who was with the man quickly gathered him up and left the store in a hurry. Perhaps employees should be given a class on etiquette in approaching people (especially individuals of disabilities and/or special needs), customer service, harassment, etc. I unfortunately did not get the woman's name otherwise I would have made a formal complaint/report. I have been coming to this bookstore for over 10 years and have bought quite a bit of merchandise over the years, however this event has put a bad taste in my mouth and I do not have the desire to return anytime soon. No crazy lines, found GREAT gifts that weren't books (also bought books) FREE GIFT WRAPPING!!!! Everybody was SUPER UBER helpful and mega friendly, and the 2 women that were gift wrapping really made my day!!!!! Small wonder I love coming here! Everyone here is always really friendly to me, and the coffee shop had some nice snacks (YUM) and great coffee . If I could spend more time here I definitely would! read more
