This place has a lot going for it, so I'm giving five stars. There are a couple areas where they could make it better. And they do have one really negative thing tainting their reputation among decent folk, but I'll leave that nightmare for last. First, not all Barnes & Nobles have nice chairs in which you can sit. Most seem to rely too much on the really uncomfortable cafe seating items and fixtures. I spend a lot of time in bookstores, and a place to sit for a few moments that is actually comfortable is a real benefit. Second, all experiences with the staff here have been positive. They seem, from what I've experienced, like pleasant and smart people. I like this place a lot, but here are some suggestions for improvements: 1. It seems like they could fit more books in this place without making it feel cramped. Or add some more lovely chairs. There are areas that seem rather empty or underused. 2. If they did put in a set of bookshelves in the "Poetry, Drama, Literary Criticism" section, they would actually have room for books on literary criticism, of which there seem to be none at the moment. Poetry? Yes. Drama? Yes. Literary criticism? Not really. 3. This nightmare aspect is not unique to this store. It seems that all the Barnes & Noble pay points in the cafes put up a "tip" screen when you go to pay that deliberately makes it almost impossible to push the "no tip" option. This is called a "dark pattern" and is on the point of being illegal in the EU and other decent parts of the world. It should be illegal here, too, and whatever third-rate MBA at Barnes & Noble convinced their superiors this was a good idea should be sent back to the asylum from which they escaped. Scientists call this type of dark pattern "a coercive tipping interface, in which accepting a tip requires one tap, while declining requires a five-second hard press." It's aggressive, tacky and should be condemned by all moral persons. Elsewhere on Yelp I have complained that in no civilized society does anyone ever ASK for a tip; using a machine proxy to do so does not change that fact. And using an aggressive machine proxy just makes good people angry. It's a bad idea all around. read more

We've not been to this store for a long time due to Covid-19! We still buy book but using Internet for most of purchase. However, I still enjoy browsing through Barnes & Noble for books. It is rare I walk out without some book. The smell of new book just reminds us of our visit to the local library roaming around for hours searching for books. They have re-arrange their displays and children's area. There are magazines available as well. Need some caffeine, step into the Starbucks Café area to buy a drink or snack. However, I have not been to the Music section! I love the cookbooks section and the bargain books at Book Annex are fantastic! Yes, just pick up a book on Van Gogh's work at a great price! read more

I found a nice selection of books, the sections were easily definable and everyone was pleasant and helpful. The prices were as expected. Nice to be able to and order a coffee or tea and preview the books before purchase. read more

The new, post Covid, B&N is fantastic. Someone rearranged the shelves, moved them about, and made a logical book haven. I still buy books. I like the feel of them and the smell. I've tried computer style books and there is always one problem: if I'm on a reading binge, the battery life wears out before I do. I'm a physical, gotta hold it, book reader. So I'm McLovin the new set up. read more

My family was into Barnes & Noble today to look for a book for my son and for my daughter as well as I was looking for two cooking books the lady at the customer service counter in the very middle of the store was fantastic to deal with very nice and so we're two other associates in the store and then we got to the front counter to check out and the manager Dawn G made our entire experience at Barnes & Noble miserable my daughter was looking for a book and found one that was ripped and Don said that they have them in the back but we can't get to that at this time because we're too busy which the store was not busy at all then when I went to check out with my two cookbooks I was being happy and nice and said hello and she was miserable like she didn't want to be there at work and when she was ringing up my books she dropped one of my books and as a joke I said oh I guess I get a discount like a dented can at a supermarket and she made the most ridiculous comment back to me and was extremely rude and inconsiderate and actually when I got home I found out that it dented the book. I would rather drive 30 mi in the opposite direction to go to Barnes & Noble then to ever go to the store in Fort Myers as long as Dawn G is the manager or associated with your store. Going to a store for a book is generally a calming experience everybody seems to be very nice but this lady should not be representing your company. Sure, I buy most of my books online, but there's something about a bookstore that still draws me in. It reminds me of when I would visit the local library and roam around for hours browsing through books on a million different topics. When I visit Barnes & Noble off Daniels it's rare that I don't walk out with some new book. I usually come in looking for a book on a particular topic, but leave with something completely different. One of the first sections I enjoy exploring is the "best sellers" shelf by the front of the store. They display best sellers from a wide variety of genres at a discounted price. This section usually only contains paperback selections, which is fine by me. The rest of the store is spacious, bright and well organized. They've even started to develop a hefty selection of board games and puzzles. This particular Barnes & Noble also has a standalone section for movies and music. I don't normally buy anything for this section. But, sometimes they do have "special edition" box sets that I'm tempted to open my wallet for. read more

My last review for B&N was "over 7 years ago" here on Yelp, and sadly, the star rating hasn't changed. Why am I rating two stars? Because the store still remains to be a little in the expensive side. I came to the store just to browse. I had a $3 coupon from somewhere and that is the only reason I was in the store... I honestly haven't been in the place in close to four years, and given the price of the books, it might be another four before I return. I ended up buying an after Christmas present for someone, which was pretty cheap. The only item out of two that I left with, it was worth the trip. Originally priced at $9, it was on sale for $4.50. With my coupon, it cost under $2. However, I also bought a hard cover book. The book retails at $30 and was on sale for $15. Which I thought was reasonable. I was telling someone about the book later that day, and when I happened to find it on Amazon for $10, I was a little upset I bought it in store. This is an October 2019 published book, so it's not like it's a decade old (as of the day of my purchase, it was 3 months old). Yes, I could have returned the book to Barnes and Noble, but I ended up keeping it due to a couple of factors: 1: the time spent driving back to the store (it's close but not that close to where I live), 2: the gas it would take to go back and forth, 3, the time spent trying to return the book... for a $5 difference in price. I'm not saying I am right or wrong in the value of the book, but I'm a little upset with myself for having not looked around online prior to spending the money in one spot. This isn't the first time I found something online for less but it is the first time I didn't return the item to the book store (last item was a $15 difference). This purchase also showed me why I don't have the $25 yearly membership - if I haven't been to the store in years, I would have been throwing away over $100 since my last review.... is my collection of books worth that? Sorry, no.... but don't tell my bookshelf... I'd like to remain positive for them. ;) I think I'll continue to look locally for things but still price shop everywhere. read more

This store has been here for YEARS and has no reviews? Does anyone in SW FL have a computer? Do they use it? The Borders in San Francisco, as an example, presently has 172 reviews. Get with it Florida! Prove that you are not the black hole of cyberspace! Well, I'll be coming here more often now in that the only Borders in Lee County and the only Borders in Collier County are both going out of business, closing doors, kaput, gone forever. This B&N is actually quite a nice store. It's consumer friendly, has a relatively good selection, plus Starbucks. Now all they have to do is issue email discount coupons like Borders did (uh oh, was that the cause of their demise?) to bring me in here instead of ordering from Amazon. read more

I came in the store to look for three books and an associate (Grace) asked me if she could help. When she looked them up and I asked if they were in paperback she seemed extremely agitated. I come here almost weekly to sit and read while killing time. I also frequently buy a drink or snack from The café area and enjoy while reading. I am awarding 3 stars because, while the atmosphere is nice and quiet, every time I choose to sit in the cafe I am almost snapped at to wear a mask. I understand the concern about Covid-19. I say "used to be" because it's been a while since I've been in so I don't know if they ruined it like some other B & N locations have by adding an idiotic childrens' play area to the middle of the store. (???) I spent several rainy afternoons here whilst visiting my father in Cape Coral. I was quite impressed with the selection in all areas. For those who love book stores (and for hours), head directly to the back wall and slightly to the left. There are tables, chairs, and even power outlets to get online. Avoid the cafe, as there is only a single outlet and it's always taken. The cafe is also less comfortable. The store has a great selection of books, and while they've sadly been wasting more and more space on non-books, it's still one of our favorite locations. read more

Love their extensive cookbook selections and their bargain books. I found just what I needed in the bargain books. This is a great store-set up just like all the other B&N's and even has a Starbucks cafe inside. It also seemed like they had plenty of staff available to help which isn't always the case at some establishments these days. read more

This is a really well stocked location for the most part. There have been very few occasions where I haven't been able to find what I am looking for. They have a very nice clearance section that is also pretty well stocked. They have a very nice Starbucks in the location and I have always enjoyed my coffees from them. My biggest complaint would be the staff. I don't know if maybe I just consistently catch them all when they are having terrible days but not once in my three years of living in Fort Myers have I had some cheerfully greet me or ask if I needed any help. I am such a bibliophile that I really go for the books but the customer service at this store is severely lacking. read more
