This location has a pretty awesome selection of manga and magazines. I come in probably once a week for both of those things. This B&N is a mixed bag for me. While the associates are friendly and seem to have general knowledge of what they sell, and the store is clean...It has its downsides. For starters, how do you offer a cafe and free wifi, and only have one place with outlets? Seriously, the only place you can sit and study and charge your laptop is with three tables...with a big power strip. But, for the other tables, there are no outlets. Seems a bit off. Why offer the service, if you don't provide places to charge adequately? My last issue is the bathroom. I can't speak for the women's bathroom, but the men's bathroom is always a mess. Now, I know a lot of that has to do with customers who don't care and will make a mess...but, this place is clearly not doing hourly checks. I have seen the bathroom a complete mess...paper towels all over the mess, excrement all over the stalls, and urine everywhere. So, why aren't the bathrooms being checked every hour or two? Other than those two negatives, I really have no major gripes with this place. I rarely buy books here, mostly because they are overpriced (you can find most things $5-$10 cheaper on Amazon or Target) but I do enjoy coming here to read on my iPad or hang out on my laptop. i have mixed feelings with this b&n. the staff are so friendly and helpful, but for a place that has a café, there aren't many places for individuals to charge their electronics. the book selection has expanded since the rise of booktok/bookstagram, so that's another positive. i wish there was a little more seating arrangements and study spaces with charging stations or outlets. read more

I agree with several of the previous comments regarding this store only having one place to charge electronics. I've come here many times to study and have been frustrated about having to leave when my laptop dies because there's only one place to plug it in and it's taken. As well as only having two comfortable chairs available that also always seem to be taken. The staff is typically very friendly and the selection has definitely gotten better over the years. I've never really had an issue with this Barnes and noble until today when I went to make a purchase with a gift card thinking it had more money on it than it did (I grabbed the wrong one) and when I responded to the remaining balance with "oh shoot" before I started going through my wallet for cash the cashier responded with "sorry to give you bad news, guess it's ramen for you tonight" and laughed. Maybe I'm being too sensitive but it genuinely was hurtful that she made a joke about my financial situation being that the only reason I went ahead and paid the remaining balance was do not hold up the line behind me. I genuinely was planning on using a gift card for my entire purchase and that was the only reason I went there today in the first place. read more

The "starbucks" does not accept starbucks gift cards. I bought drinks anyway. After sitting in the cafe much less than an hour, they rudely announced over the speaker that everyone who had been sitting there over 30 minutes needed to leave the store. I felt ripped off and annoyed after paying over $11 for drinks. Huge advertisements for Obamas new book, but the store contained 0 Trump books. Politically bias much? B&N will not be receiving anymore business from me, or from the friends who were with me! read more

Barnes and Noble is a nice place to sit and relax when you have some free time are in the Wards Rd area. However, I am a little frustrated with them. I love the fact that the wireless is free there now, but mad that they decided to cover all of their power outlets! I understand that they don't want people there freeloading all day... but come on. Almost every time we go there we purchase a book, magazine or at least coffee. Now though, we will be finding another place to meet. I would recommend hanging out at Little Givens Bookstore if you don't mind driving over there. Free wi-fi, great coffee from Drowsy Poet, and a more unique book selection. I am sure we will still stop by B&N for something every now and then... but definitely not as often. I like to support the locally owned stores anyway. read more

I love Barnes and Noble in general and love that they have Starbucks coffee. However, this specific location is not the best. In the entire store, they have two (yes two) outlets. At a place that boasts free wifi, they should be able to accommodate their customers who would like to sip on their coffee and browse the internet on a laptop. A suggestion is that they could offer wifi with purchase: change their password everyday, and have the password printed on receipts. Seems complicated, but it isn't Travonna Coffee Shop in Columbus, OH does that, and they are not a huge company with many locations. Parking is great, and you can hang out here and then walk down to shop at any of the businesses in the strip. I will still come here and hope that someone isn't using one of the outlets :) read more

Was happy to learn about Starbucks buy one get one free holiday drinks offer. Turns out this Starbucks is a "Barnes & Noble Starbucks" and didn't honor that offer. Not bait and switch, but it felt like it. Also does not accept Starbucks gift certificates. Very disappointed, we ordered our drinks anyway. But then had to wait 3 minutes or 4 minutes just to get change from a $10 bill! The line of other customers grew 10 deep. Service was very slow for everyone that night. read more

The other reviews seem to be voting based on Starbucks and electrical outlets. I disagree with them because for Lynchburg this is one of the premier places to hangout and study. It's nice. Technically it's across the street from "the world largest Christian University " so I can understand covering outlets because their electric bill must be high, but then again why have a cafe Starbucks and not expect people to take advantage. So I agree they need to figure out who they are, books only or bookstore with a cafe Starbucks. read more

This Barnes and Noble is a nice bookstore with a Starbucks. Loads of books and employees are friendly and helpful. The only problem I have with Barnes and Noble are their prices. They won't match their online price unless you are a member. If you can't wait for a book then it's a good store to go to. I can usually wait and get it much cheaper online. read more

I love my local B&N. There is always available seating in the cafe where I can sit, have a great cup of coffee, and read to my heart's content. The staff is always ready to help but are enough "hands off" to let me browse in peace. Their magazine selection is second to none in the area and because I am a member of their rewards program (for a measly $25 a year fee) I get coupons in the mail and by email galore to use. I also get free 3 day shipping with my membership as well. And to those people who complained about no outlets to plug there computer into, they actually bought a power bar and placed it at the far end of the cafe just for y'all. read more
