What's not to love? This is a PHYSICAL bookstore. Please support it as one of the now few bookstores (due to amazon). I've been visiting this business for years. Over that 10+ year time span, I cannot think of one complaint about this store. It's located in White Plains' City Center, on the first floor, next to Nordstrom Rack. Thus, they have a very large parking lot but like most garages, you do pay a small fee for your parking. If on foot, they also have a second entrance - A door on Main Street. I've often jumped out of the car while a friend parks, because of that door. They have a fantastic variety and stock of books. They have tons of magazines. There is a section that is well organized and full of discounted books. They also have quite a large area for children's books. The store is very well organized and maintained so their books are where they belong and the appearance is a tidy one. They also have a sectioned off area dedicated to all things music, although I have not shopped there. I also have only positive things to say about the staff and their helpfulness. They have a particularly nice cafe area. They serve all of Starbucks' drinks and coffee (i.e. lattes, frappuccinos, etc.). Yet, they don't sell Starbucks snacks and it isn't an actual Starbucks. They sell slices from The Cheesecake Factory and also an array of other baked goods. I love their lemon bars and rustic apple tarts. Because the cafe is part of Barnes and Noble, you can get your order discounted if you are a member of the store. I often meet a friend here, for coffee. It is rare to find the tables all in use. It's a way more laid back, and easily accessible, cafe, than is Starbucks. The barista/workers are always friendly and aren't doing things a mile a minute like at Starbucks. The cafe also sell ground bags of coffee, nice teas, Godiva chocolate, current and nice looking water bottles, such as those by Swell. There is a section of the store, next to the cafe, that is full of, for lack of a better word, accessories. It has a good amount of gift items (and items for yourself). It has journals and phone decorative pieces. They also have unique and pretty pens, pencase holders, laptop related items, just to name a few. First time in this Location very spacious. Great Barnes & Noble Jr for kids. A lot of great toys for those collecting. Anime and Harry Potter and even Lego collections. Cashier was very helpful even added as a new Barnes and Noble Member. If your ever looking for sports cards and you're in the area stop by. The service is always great the staff are extremely nice people. I never had a bad experience. At around 8:10 p.m. Monday December 4th The Starbucks within the Barnes & nobles of the 2:30 main Street White plains location My friend and I were treated very rudely when we asked the representative for a spoon... He said that we cannot have a spoon unless we purchase something, which I understand and is fine. However when I said can I purchase a coffee he still continue to say that I can still cannot get a spoon because his manager supposedly told them that he has to be very selective with how many spoons he gives out... He continues to not have any hospitality and treated us with a very cold expression even though we were kind and said thank you for being treated rudely... I hope this serves as a lesson that the cost that they saved by sparing a spoon versus getting this negative review with far outweigh the attempts to save overhead... I'm not sure if this is the manager's fault as Michael said regarding not giving out a spoon... I'm a fan of B&N; while I only occasionally buy something, I find them relaxing and enjoy simply browsing the aisles looking for something to catch my eye. I actually never knew this B&N existed before I started exploring White Plains. Technically it's located in City Center, but there's also a street entrance on Main St which is nice if you don't want to go all the way inside the mall. I really like the layout of this B&N. It kind of goes against tradition by having the magazine section immediately upon entry if you're coming from the mall, and if you're coming from the street you actually go right into the music department. It can be a little confusing but I think that's what makes it interesting. Their cafe is a nice size as well. Customer service is also good - everyone I've encountered has been pleasant. It's pretty much the only place to get a book on the spot if you're in White Plains, so they have that going for them. On the other hand, they're super expensive compared to Amazon.com so I rarely get anything here if I don't have to. I cross checked some books online while I was passing through, and Amazon was 6-7 bucks cheaper on each one. Also, while I don't know this for sure, I have seen some things which make me think they suppress authors who don't mesh well with the overtly Democratic vibe in the area. I was looking for a book by a conservative author, a NY Times bestseller in fact, which I was going to give someone as a birthday gift. And after searching around like a horses ass for 20 minutes I gave up and asked a salesperson to help me. Ultimately, we found it. But the thing was literally buried on a bottom shelf in the back of the store, and, I kid you not, behind a piece of clear plastic Lucite. Weird coincidence...or Commie suppression? What a horrible experience to have in a neighborhood bookstore. Unfortunately I left my phone in the car and asked the store manager (I think, she has red hair) if I could leave my bags and run to my car, behind the counter. She refused to lifer her head/make eye contact and spoke in a scripted monotoned voice how "I may, but they are not responding for my belongings" as I responded "so it's no, and walked away" she responded , with a tone of satisfaction to her colleague "see I'm not as nice as you." One would think in a profession that is allegedly dwindling (book stores ) the associates would apply themselves more to be members of the community and a fixture, instead of rude and obnoxious to the Parton's and members of the community. read more

Well. Amazon's customer service has gone to complete shit. So after dealing with a condescending asshole and then a guy in India who was reading his responses off a piece of paper, I decided to cancel my book order and just drive to B&N to buy the book I wanted. I paid $10 more, but considering the book is by my #1 favorite author, I don't really care. Much. So what happened with Amazon? Every year before this one, standard shipping = Tori gets her pre-ordered books on the release day. In 2013, standard shipping = Tori gets her pre-ordered books (ORDERED BACK IN FREAKING FEBRUARY) two weeks after the book release. So Tori decided to go contact Amazon and see what was up with that, and condescending ass at Amazon told her that other paying customers get their shit first because they paid more for shipping. To which Tori said yeah, well I'm a paying customer too, and you guys should get your act together because this new system of yours is complete garbage. Moral of the story? I'm pissed at Amazon, I'm no longer pre-ordering my favorite authors from their site, and I'm going to B&N to get these books from now on. Or I'll just order them off B&N's website, since it's $10 cheaper. Amazon, I was like your bitch before today because your customer service was so amazing. Now? I don't like you very much anymore. Now, as for the store itself, it's very large and spacious, and has rows upon rows of beautiful books that a book nerd like me wishes she could own and roll around in and sniff. Because yes, I admit that I love the smell of a brand new book. Staff here are always helpful, and I love seeing a few girls helping teenagers get YA book recs. Part of me wanted to jump into the conversation, but I refrained the blogger in me. Prices are way higher than what you would pay online. I worked at this Barnes & Noble for a few months last summer. It was the worst. The management was terrible and they fire you if you can't sell enough memberships. They pay minimum wage and expect you to give up on all of your commitments and work there till close. I don't know how to say this, but B& N is dirty. Sometimes we even found books in bathroom stalls, near toilets. They allow the customers to eat and drink with the books and then when you buy it, they charge you as though the book isn't used. If shopping here, buy the book if it is wrapped. Also, make sure you check the book. At the White Plains location, the managers told us to fix the book if it was damaged. Hence, we were forced to sell you a damaged book. Make sure you are getting your money's worth. read more

A large store with pretty helpful staff. Prices are way too high for electronics, but hey, it 's a bookstore, amirite? But yeah, this place is okay, except for the bathrooms. It seems like the mentally ill gather from across the time and space to come here and decimate the toilets. You'll see poo stains that defy the color wheel. Don't stare too long or you may lose your mind. Cafe is quite good. Good drink makers and the desserts are quite tasty. The savory food is ass though, but that's not really the staff's fault, cause those are def brought in and just reheated upon ordering. read more

This is one of the best Barnes & Noble locations around. I certainly prefer it to the newer Scarsdale location, and the Yonkers Central Ave. store. It is in a good location in downtown White Plains, with entrances from Main St. and inside the City Center Mall. From inside the mall, it is on the ground floor on the right hand side. There is a great selection of books here, including new releases and best sellers. There is also a large Barnes & Noble Jr. area for children's books, and a great selection of music and videos. I have heard complaints about the customer service and employees at the store, but I have had no problem. They do a good job of helping me find what I need. This location also has a large Barnes & Noble Starbucks café. They have a full selection of Starbucks beverages and bakery items, plus plenty of seating. This Barnes & Noble is certainly worth your time to visit, or buy books or media. It's also fun to come down and browse before a movie upstairs! read more

Nice, large Barnes and Nobles with ample parking. The best part is their coffeeshop. They have the best tasting chocolate cupcakes ever. If I were to die tomorrow, I would go get one of those chocolate cupcakes from Cheesecake factory. They also have cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory as well. read more

The Barnes & Noble at the City Center is a nice, bright, clean place. I wish it was an independent bookstore/cafe instead, but they don't have many of those around here, so I must love it for what it is. ;) They have a good selection of books and CDs. Their magazine selection is pretty good, too. It's a spacious place with a pleasant atmosphere. Their cafe is nice--just your average B&N Starbucks, but I've found that the Barristas are nice people, and again, it's clean and pleasant. The Barnes & Noble in white plains NY is the best I've been in. If you're lucky enough to snag a seat by the cafe or manga's /comic books you'll find your stay most enjoyable. What makes this Barnes & Noble stand out from the others I've been in? That's easy, just the over all experience. Having a friend who works there (shout out, Toe!) i socialize. The employees are nice and all approachable. You'll find that they will help you find anything without giving you a bit of attitude or leave you with the feeling that they hate their job. They actually find the book with ease which is nice. The movie/music section is also nice although some DVD's are clearly over priced, but then again you take what you can get. Having a nice section to choose from whats a few more bucks, but if your looking for a regular movie try walmart or something if not barnes and noble should have it. The nice thing is if you ask them if they have a movie and they don't, they will actually order the movie off of the site for you, i mean come on what else do you want? Next up is the anime/comic section, which is located right next to the romance section where middle aged and elderly women dive in like vultures after food. If you can get past that you'll find a pretty decent section for all your manga/comic needs. The comic book section has a nice verity to chose from as the does the manga section. I personally go to the mangas read a little while children run around and mothers drink their feelings through Starbucks. The only negative thing i have to say about this Barnes and nobles is sometimes you wont find a seat, so you'll have to stand while reading or even eating. But if you can get past that its a great place to just spend time and relax where no one will bother you. read more

My fave Barnes & Nobles in the area! It's big, clean, organized and the Starbucks actually has a decent amount of seating! It's conveniently located at the City Center and has an Applebees, Buffalo Wild Wings and Legal Sea Foods right next door. There's plenty of shopping stores nearby, a Walmart across the street and a nice movie theater on the top floor. It's open pretty late (11pm) which is great for us students and bookworms. read more

One of the bigger and probably a central BN in Westchester. Everytime I'm in another BN and I ask for a search on my book, the WP BN would have it so i might as well just start here. It's centrally located in WP. Great parking garage and in same vicinity as Target, Filene's Bsmt (great shopping), Circuit City, etc. This place is big and bright and the people here are very friendly and helpful. Lines are always fast. I love being a BN member where I can take advantage of my 10% everytime I come here (good for school textbooks) for books and even the Starbucks coffee which I totally take advantage of. I just wish they had more couches to chill on when killing time at BN. read more

I asked what it consisted of and a girl said salt and caramel drizzled on top. Then a male worker chimmed in and said its a full bodied experience. I agreed to try it. When I tasted it, I said oh I don't like it at all and it's cold. The workers both said "oh well, that's what you got". I went in for a hot chocolate, spent money and left w nothing!!! My problem with B&N in White Plains is the cafe. I don't know why a lot of the B&N cafes are like this. They never have enough coffee and so give you the very end of the pot and if you don't want it, you have to wait for them to brew it and they totally forget about you. Also, the decaf coffee is never hot. The cafe employees just don't seem to care. The salaries of their customers may not be any better than theirs but they act like the customers are just a stupid annoyance when it could be a treat for people who can't afford to do much more than sit in a Barnes & Noble cafe for while. read more

love b&n. so important that they are around, reading is key in expanding. our mind to learn. part of the city center and big and books,books books and more.two entrances one near escalators and one on main st. very clean and staff are knowledgeable and ready to help you find what you need.parking is not a problem, i just walk a couple blocks.but parking lot with multi levels steps away. great place to waste time ( not me). all sections clearly marked and shelves of books all over the place in neat rows. books for kids and toys for the brats too.place is clean and well managed, if you cant find a book go to customer service for help, if not in stock they can order it for you.prices are a little high ,but many discounted books available on many tables thruout the place. get a b&n member card for discounts on books and other goodies.i notice a lot of people just reading books and not buying any thing,which is a common thing at b& n. also starbucks inside to get your coffee and scones fix. good coffee and snacks to be had here. i am aware you can get your books cheaper online, however its so much better to come in person to check out books personally .p.s people use those nook tablets at nook stand for hours, damn dont be cheap just buy one and buy at least one book . read more

Love this B & N! Granted it's not the biggest location but it gets the job done! If they don't have it, they'll get it! It has all the different departments and always a helpful staff! Definitely worth a visit! One thing to watch out for though. There is a young female security guard who tries to act tough if the thing beeps on your way out. I've seen her hassle people but since she's hardly their its not worth taking off a star for them. read more

The worst customer service ever! I tried returning an item 2 weeks after purchasing it but did not have a receipt. I was told I could not get a refund, I could not get a store credit and that I was out of luck. The store clerk recited the store policy to me twice. I went home and started an online chat and was told the same thing and read the store policy again. I then went back and forth with e-mail for weeks. After weeks of struggle I went to upper management and was told I could get a store credit. I went in and the clerk told me the store policy again and said I couldn't return the item. The manager then comes out and processes my store credit but not before telling me the store policy AGAIN and telling me how she is making an exception for me! Did anyone listen to my story? I tried returning this well within the return period and was denied. After weeks of bad experience, I was numb to this an just sat there and listened and took my store credit. Returning a book was a painful experience that took 1 month and a lot of time and several trips to the store. I will not be returning to this or any B&N. Amazon provides a much better experience. This is by far, my favorite BN location; everything is laid out nicely and it is always clean and organized, and it is spacious. My only issue is that there no seating area in the store for those browsing books other than by the magazine racks, which are for those browsing magazines, and the Starbucks area is only for those ordering drinks. The Starbucks area is always VERY loud and noisy and I could never concentrate on reading there. I'm not saying it should be as quiet as a library but it should be kept at a fairly conversational level, not loud like mall cafeteria. However, my main concern is that there is no seating in the store for book browsers, so I usually have to haul all my selections around the store and find a spot on the floor somewhere to sit and go through them; which is very disrespectful and humiliating for a customer who potentially wants to pay money for their products. They should at least have some benches in between shelves. read more
