We've been a customer of Barney Barker Oil for some years now. They've always been there for us. Most recently as last evening our oil furnace stopped running. Called the emergency service, within minute I received a call from Mike. Guided me how to get the furnace running temporarily. Today Mike came out, fixed our furnace. It's a family run company that cares, it shows. This is an excellent company to partner with. We plan to continue our relationship with them. read more

Called one time because my furnace was leaking a little oil, thy could care less, because it was after hours, and he has just took a shower, and eaten his dinner. He was very rode, I could tell this was a family run business. He can treat customs any way he wants, and he will never loose his job. It has been my experience that if you treat your customers all this rode, and nasty, you must treat your employees even worst. He had the nerve to call me the next morning to see if I got it fixed. We recently bought a house last year and as first time homeowners we had no clue what we were doing. We never had oil before and our house uses oil so we called up Barney Barker to service our furnace and HVAC. We decided to go with them because they had very good reviews. My fiancé called them multiple times and spoke to Joanne every time trying to understand what we would need done on our furnace regarding yearly services and etc and asked about the different plans they had to offer, bronze, silver, and gold. We ultimately decided to purchase the gold plan since we have an older furnace and would have a piece of mind knowing that a lot of the parts and labor would be covered if anything broke. We had our furnace serviced back in October and the guy who came out was very friendly and personable. We were really happy with everything. Now comes the problem. Yesterday night I came home and decided to go to the basement to check on our oil. Right when I open the door to the basement I knew something was wrong. The basement was literally steaming and as I went downstairs I saw that all our walls, ceiling and floor was wet. To my horror, I saw that the furnace was releasing hot water through the pressure release pipe and it wouldn't stop! It was a heavy flow too. I immediately called Barney Barker (this was after hours) and someone called me back advising that emergency service would cost $225 for the first hour or hour and a half and $150 for every hour after (my numbers may be off) so we decided to schedule something for the following day since we didn't want to pay the high price and THOUGHT that since we had the gold plan everything would be covered. We shut off our furnace and the next morning I called them right when I woke up. I spoke to Joanne again and she scheduled me for sometime between 10-12 that morning and I said fine. Within 10 mins, Mike (who I believe is the manager) called me and said that he would send someone to me right away because he didn't want me to deal with the water mess. I thought that was amazing customer service and couldn't be more happy. The guy comes and we tell him we have the Gold plan and he asks if we purchase oil through them as well and we said no. He tells us that if we have the Gold plan, we also need to be purchasing oil through them as well otherwise our contract is void. We DID NOT know about this and nor did Joanne tell us after the multiple phone calls my fiancé had made with her. We ARE first time homeowners and to be honest we are really clueless about everything. He said we should've been told and we weren't. We call the office and once again my fiancé talks to Joanne. She said it is clearly written in the contract (yes, we should've read the contract) but she should've also mentioned this to us before we purchased the gold plan. We felt like we were left in the dark and all they wanted was our business. We never got any follow up calls or anything from them asking us to purchase oil or setting up automatic delivery (which would've been nice so we would've known about having to purchase oil through them). We asked if they could make an exception this time and let us keep the contract and going forward we would purchase all our oil through them but she would not even budge. She basically told us that our contract has been void since we never purchased oil from them and there was nothing she could do. She told us that the work that was being performed today would have to be paid out of pocket and nothing would be covered after we paid close to $400 for the gold plan. We really enjoyed the work and responsiveness from Barney Barker and after this ordeal and having to pay another $400 out of pocket for something that should've been covered if she was willing to make a one time exception for us considering we are brand new to this, we would've continued to use them going forward. Mike was awesome the couple of times we spoke to him and sadly to say, we won't be continuing our service from them and will be looking for other companies to service our furnace and HVAC. They were not willing to budge at all or at least even give us some sort of a discount or anything. They just didn't seem to care about keeping or losing loyal customers and this shouldn't be how you do business. I would've given 1 star if not for how wonderful their responsiveness and work was the 2 times they came. read more
