Buyer beware of Hyannis Marina & Ira Marcus In August 2025,…read moreI purchased a 2021 Tiara 43LE with approximately 120 hours on the engines through Hyannis Marina. After the boat was launched, we completed the sea trial and inspections. During that process, it was discovered that three of the four Shadow-Caster underwater lights were not functioning. As part of the negotiated terms of the sale, it was agreed that the correct replacement underwater lights would be provided, and I would cover the labor to have them installed during the boat's winter storage. When spring arrived and my marina removed the original lights, they determined that the replacement lights supplied were the wrong size. My boat requires 4-inch Shadow-Caster lights, but 3-inch lights had been ordered. I immediately contacted Ira Marcus and explained the situation. I also informed him that, once the old lights were removed, it made sense to replace all four lights rather than only the original three that had failed. We ultimately agreed to proceed with replacing the three lights that were part of our original agreement. Ira told me to go ahead and purchase the correct lights and have my marina complete the installation, and that they would get everything worked out afterward. I followed those instructions. I purchased the correct 4-inch Shadow-Caster lights out of pocket, and my marina completed the installation. Since then, I have spent months trying to resolve the reimbursement. Despite numerous conversations, I have continued to receive delays. Most recently, I was told that there was nothing Hyannis Marina could do because the boat was a brokerage sale. That explanation is extremely disappointing because the agreement regarding the underwater lights was made as part of the purchase transaction. Whether the boat was a brokerage listing or not was never presented as an issue when the commitment was made or when I was instructed to purchase the correct replacement lights. Unfortunately, because this matter has not been honored despite repeated attempts to resolve it amicably, I will be pursuing legal action to enforce the terms of our agreement. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend doing business with this brokerage. I expected a dealership of this reputation to stand behind the commitments made during the sale, and unfortunately that has not been my experience.

Those looking to race will sail two-up in 420's or singly in Lasers. Many of the racing instructors have experience racing for their high school or college sailing teams. Friendly, safe, warm, inclusive atmosphere. Good equipment, usually decent wind, and clean water on Lewis Bay.

We were 100% beginners at the start, but were sailing by the end of our first day! All the students received an opportunity to learn at their own pace and some became very proficient. One of the pleasures of this program is that the learning is done on Cape Cod Knockabouts - a classical boat with terrific sailing characteristics. Depending on the skill level the sailing will take place closer or farther from the Lewis Bay mooring field and on several occasions some boats went as far as the Hyannis Harbor. The best feature of the program has to be the Instructors who by their teens have more sailing experience than most adults. They typically started sailing when they were 5 or 6 years old and by the time they are instructing they are seasoned veterans, experienced in all sorts of sailing and racing. They are like all the kind of kids you wish to raise - responsible, smart, kind, intelligent, dedicated and professional. An important feature of the program is its flexibility. The students who progressed to more advanced stages were challenged with more advanced topics. The parent aged students were given an opportunity to study with more experienced instructors when appropriate. There were no idle moments and the mentoring atmosphere was very reassuring to every student. Yarmouth Recreational Sailing organizers and administrators deserve high praise for offering such a wonderful program to the community. A program with this many moving parts that runs this well is a testament to the skill and dedication of the entire staff. Very well done! Many Thanks!!!

The boat crew were also very friendly and helpful. It wasn't overly crowded, but it was crowded enough that our lines got tangled with other patrons' frequently. We caught a good amount of fish and some other guests caught a LOT of fish. You're allowed to bring coolers and food and drinks, which is great. You can have the crew clean and fillet the fish for $2/fish on the way back to the harbor, but it's cash only, so be prepared. Their skills were pretty impressive. The only reason I'm not giving a 4-star review was because of one incident while fishing. Someone hooked a smooth dogfish (shark) that was approximately 5 years old. A young crew member brought the shark around the boat to show everyone, and I was allowed to hold it. When I asked if he was going to release it, he took it and moved on with no response. A few minutes later, I saw this same crew member slam the shark on the boat floor. He then drop kicked it. Then he juggled it on his foot like a hackey sack. I understand we're all on this boat to catch fish, but I believe we were all going to be eating what we caught. I wouldn't expect anyone to treat even a fish like a hackey sack, and to see a crew member treating a shark in such a way was both upsetting, disappointing, and inappropriate. Aside from that, the crew was very professional and honestly pretty awesome, and the fishing trip was a good experience. But because of the lack of respect for the shark and unprofessionalism in its handling, I don't think I would book another trip with the Helen H. and I would find it really hard to recommend them to anyone else.
