I'm not really sure where to begin regarding my experience with this location and the front desk…read morereceptionist. I am extremely active and have been working out regularly my entire life. I currently belong to orange theory and in the last I have done CrossFit, yoga, kickboxing, HIIT, TRX classes and more. I used to belong to barre3 in Salmon Creek as well. I'm not new to fitness world and am very familiarized with how it works. I have a 6 month old baby at home and am able to run out the door for a workout class a few times a week when my husband gets home. Today, I was looking forward to trying Pure Barre as the location is close to our house and I anticipated enjoying it enough to exclusively sign up with them. I walked in at 5:25pm, immediately the energy coming from the front desk receptionist (didn't catch her name but she was an Asian woman) was super snarky and pretentious. She was very unprofessional, unwelcoming and rude. She immediately started pressing in to me that I was late. Even though class didn't start for another 5 minutes. Excuse me? What? Apparently if I am not 10 minutes EARLY then I am .... Late. In all of my 32 years on this planet, never have I heard of being late if you aren't 10 minutes EARLY. I'm still scratching my head on that one. She starts going on about a late fee and telling me she knows nothing about me and my history or if I have injuries. Again, what?! I don't have injuries that are current or could be considered problematic and If I did, I would have informed you far in advance before deciding to show up to class. She then told me that I could not join class if I don't have special "sticky" socks. So I am new to Pure Barre but have taken two other types of Barre classes in the past and have never been required to purchase a special kind of sock. Even still, that's fine. All good and fine, that's the issue. The issue was her tone, her attitude, her delivery. I have never felt so unwanted at a place in my entire life. I'm still just sitting her in shock about the way I was treated . I run two very successful business' and not in a million years would I make a client feel the way that this woman has made me feel. I would never speak to someone in such a disrespectful manner and I certainly wouldn't start threatening someone with late fees when they are 5 minutes early versus 10. I was in such utter disbelief that I could hardly explain to this woman that all of this felt very cold and unwelcoming. I had no problem buying the sticky socks but she could have kindly expressed that this type of barre requires them. To whoever owns this franchise, I would HIGHLY encourage you to look in to the staff running your office. You just lost a potential long term member because of your receptionist and her lack of professionalism. Anyone looking to find a new studio or regimen, do yourself a a favor and go anywhere but here! I can vouch personally for orange theory fitness, the TRX Results gym across the street, Barre3, Burntown Fitness on 192nd is fabulous. Seriously, anywhere but here.

I also want to mention that I booked the class through Class Pass. Upon arrival, I was greeted by Emmie who was also my instructor. She was very sweet and so welcoming. She gave me a brief summary of what to expect and answered any questions I had. My first impression of the studio was that it was very clean and cute. The class itself was great. Emmie is an awesome instructor and very motivating which makes all the difference. There is a parking lot but it can get full as the studio is located in a plaza with other businesses. Overall, I had a great experience here and can see myself coming back.

I'm so glad I found them, I honestly prefer them to any barre studio in the area (I've tried them all). The instructors are top notch and incredibly helpful. I also appreciate that they mix things up with new styles of class - I just tried a brand new class the other day which engaged a ton of lateral movement - not common in Barre and really left me feeling like I experienced something new. They recently reopened and I am very excited to see what they have in store for Lake Oswego!

I literally think of writing a review every time I step out of class--but then I get overwhelmed by…read morehow many things I have to say that I just don't? Anyway, here's my attempt at giving a concise overview of all these classes have done for me. When I signed up for class the first day, I was terrified. First off, I had never been to a studio-type class before. Second, I was in a year-long process of recovering from a nasty case of sciatica where I had shooting pain from my low back all the way down the back of my leg to my heal. And when I say nasty, I mean wicked god-awful nasty. At a certain point, age 24, I was using the scooters that they had in Fred Meyer to shop for groceries because I would be in so much pain that I'd literally collapse to the floor if I walked for more than 10 minutes at a time. After about a year of at-home yoga videos from YouTube, I decided to go to my first class. And, look. I had made some pretty okay recovery by then. But I was still in constant pain. I don't know how to say this without being dramatic or cheesy, but that first class changed my life. I came in not even able to hold a plank. Period. Like, not even for two seconds. And now (on good days, of course!) I can hold one for a full 90 seconds. With pretty decent form, too! But I always find myself showing off to my friends: Look what I did in Pure Barre today! It's insane! For that kind of progress--I've gotta say--I would not be able to do it on my own. It took a team of helpful instructors who I know genuinely care about me to get there. Sometimes even going out of their way to give one-on-one instruction. And can I just say, they're all super body positive, too?! I was genuinely worried because, when I started, I definitely was purchasing my clothes from the plus-size section. Never have I ever felt like they were looking at me differently because of my size NOR have I felt like they've ever made weight loss seem like something I SHOULD be doing. I have though. Over 40 pounds. But that was never ever their focus. Their priorities have always been getting stronger--on taking that 45min to 1hr to work on yourself And I love how they leave those intentions, what working on yourself means, to the individual. Oh. Also. You might be thinking, "Wow. That girl with sciatica was okay in this workout. Sounds like it might be boring." Which haha. No. Pure Barre has never gotten easier. I've found that the more my body is capable of, the more I can push it. Now, nearly 300 classes later, I still get sore after class. And, I know that I'm not the only person who thinks this, but I genuinely think it gets harder the more I do it. I'm always finding new muscles to work. New ways to dig deeper. New ways to push harder. Nah. I really believe that this is a workout for a large variety of body types. If you're even thinking of going, at least try it. It may be a bit pricey, but it's the best money I have EVER spent. Plus, idk if I'm supposed to say this..but they'll let you have a free week to try it out. In which case, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!! The first class is always awkward. Let yourself really figure out if it's right for you.

Buyer beware. When…read moremy schedule changed and I attempted to cancel my membership, I was informed that I would be charged for an additional full month regardless of whether I used the classes. What turned a routine cancellation into a negative experience was not the existence of policies, but the way the situation was handled. Communication was delayed, dismissive, and unhelpful, and reasonable questions about options or accommodations were repeatedly met with deflection rather than engagement. The studio owner's public response to this review further illustrates the issue. Instead of addressing concerns about communication and professionalism, it speculates about my motives, references my class bookings, and characterizes me as attempting to "take advantage" of a promotion. That framing is inaccurate and unnecessary. I was willing to adhere to the terms of the agreement and downgraded my membership in good faith when my schedule changed. The issue was never avoiding obligations -- it was the lack of respectful, straightforward communication. Publicly calling out individual customers by name and assigning intent, rather than resolving matters privately and professionally, is concerning. This experience felt far removed from the community-focused, supportive environment the brand promotes and instead reflected rigid enforcement paired with poor customer care. Prospective members should read cancellation and downgrade terms very carefully and consider how issues are handled if circumstances change.

Let me start by saying that I had previously enjoyed going to The Bar Method for their classes --…read morethey're a great way to stay in shape. That was until the new owner, Lauren Wood, decided to make anyone coming in through ClassPass or Wellhub feel as though they're taking advantage of her by not paying her directly. She emailed to say she planned to leave these platforms and asked me to pay for a membership through her instead. I declined, since I already pay quite a bit for my Wellhub membership, which allows me to attend a variety of classes across different studios. I had booked a class for 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, and at 8:20 p.m. tonight, Lauren canceled it -- because she wanted to "save space" for people who pay her directly. So even though I booked an available class in advance, I was bumped to make room for someone who might pay her a few dollars more. I had a small window to work out tomorrow, and her last-minute cancellation made it impossible for me to find an alternative. Could you even top this kind of horrible customer service? What a joke. Lauren wants to have her cake and eat it too - stay on these platforms to keep the revenue flowing but eject low paying customers from their booked spot if she can fill it with "higher value" clients. Don't worry, Lauren -- I won't be "lowering your standards" by coming back to your studio. I'm so sorry you received such a pittance for my attendance. At this point, I'd rather work out anywhere else. Pure Barre, for example, offers more challenging classes -- and guess what? They're always happy to see me.
