It was good, not great. The burnt ends were a small portion, and were extremely fatty. The kind where you can get a full mouth of squishy fat in some bites. The local lager on got on tap was a little flat and a little oxidized. I bet this is a bangin' summer place based on the location and ambiance but, it was quite dead when I was here. The bartender also seemed very distracted by a horrible thing she was going through outside of work, but I could tell she was still trying to give me the best service possible. read more

Initially I thought it was going to be amazing! But , not so much. I ordered via DoorDash and the food arrived and the cream from my Chef's bread pudding had spilled out onto every container. The macaroni and cheese had a pink tinge and powdery cheese taste. Definitely not southern or your mama's Mac, heck not even Kraft for that matter. The burnt ends arrived cold as if they skipped the oven and went straight to packaging. The deviled eggs were SUPER BASIC! They were topped with unevenly chopped scallions and had crushed barbecue potato chips on them! The Brussels sprouts were greasy and sweet (why). The best thing was the catfish over rice etoufe. It wasn't fishy or over sauced, however, under seasoned . The bread pudding is really the only thing that took more than 4 bites out of. I don't have any pictures because I called myself reviewing on DoorDash and the pictures went straight to them instead of saving. I make it a point to give credit where it's due but unfortunately this place did not hit the spot or the great rating mark! The portions were extremely small and unfortunately not worth the price. This was my second time here. Thsi time, we sat on the patio on a cool Fall night out by the fire. We were very casual and sat around the firepit to eat and drink, but you could have a more formal meal at a table inside or on the patio (I did that the first time with a group). The food is pretty good. Not many vegetarian options, but I chose the side salad and mac and cheese side and both hit the spot! I was surprised at how good the mac and cheese was. My wife and I ordered dinner here. It was good, no complaints. However, we also ordered dessert, what happened is why I'm leaving a 1 star review. I ordered the chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. The cookie's chocolate chunks were burnt, like artist charcoal burnt. However, the outside of the cookie was not. It took me a while to realize that this is because they microwave their food, including cookies and burned the hell out of it. I brought this to the waitress' attention and she said she'd talk to management. Management's response, give us 25% off the one single dessert. Fine, I did eat the ice cream, but if you're going to be that petty on a $8 dessert you burned and did not offer to bring a proper out, it should've been 50% off. Half of the dessert was inedible. You effed up, you made profit, and you lost a customer. I hope the $4 in profit was worth it. read more

Unfortunately, they were out of the ribs that I came for so, I settled for the brisket, seasoned to perfection but, the potion was very small. Right as we arrived, there was a party of nine that was seated before us so it took us 45 minutes to get our meal, therefore we only had 15 minutes to dine before closing. Actually I had a very tuff toile chewing them and they were difficult to cut with knife. You can get better ribs elsewhere in the city. One person had the shrimp & grits and the best part was the grits. On to their advertised menu. It stated that draft beers were $5 &wine was $6.00. What the advertisement sheet doesn't say is this price is on selected offers only---definitely false advertising. Also the final receipt came up with different pricing that was advertised. Hardly any customers on a Saturday at around 3;30. When we entered there was no one at the stand to seat us. We waited quite a long time. When the young woman finally took her time walking up to us we got no greeting or apology for the wait. The 2 of us and a group of 3 sitting at the bar drinking were the only people inside. We were seated inside at a table in the bar area which meant the bartender was our server. She was obviously more interested engaging in conversation with the 3 people at the bar than waiting on us. We were ignored again for quite some time before she stopped talking and came to our table. She asked us what we wanted to drink but we knew we better order our food right away because she was busy talking to the people at the bar and ignoring us. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and he liked it. That's why I give 1 star and not zero if I could. It was on the "snacks" menu and the potion size was decent but not at $18 bucks. I ordered what was described on the menu as a "loaded baked potato." It was $10.95. It was a very small, (just larger than a tennis ball ) very over cooked, dry potato with maybe 5 or 6 small pieces of very dry and flavorless smoked pulled chicken. There was maybe a tablespoon of cheese sauce, less than that of sour cream and no bacon bits. It certainly wasn't worth 11 bucks. With the lack of customer service and expensive lackluster food , we won't be back or recommending Barrel and Boar Creekside to anyone. Plus take a look at the health score. 82/100. The majority of the standards not met are due to the lack of cleanliness- especially when it come to areas involving food. They didn't even meet handwashing expectations. Barrel & Boar in Gahanna is my absolute favorite place to go on a cold day. The rustic feel and warm atmosphere along with the friendliness of the staff always make me feel relaxed, warm and comfortable. My husband and I usually cozy up to the bar and have always been welcomed quickly and warmly by a member of the staff. My go to drink at Barrel & Boar is always the Smoked Old Fashioned. I know it's a more complicated drink and probably a pain to make during a rush but every bartender we've had has always been enthusiastic and mixed it to perfection. I'm not a fan of barbecue so I usually just stick to the appetizers and absolutely none of them miss. I could eat about 700 Jalapeño Cornbread Croutons and still have room for some Carolina Hush Puppies. A seat at the bar allows you access to multiple Keno screens and a close proximity to the bathroom so it's easy to stay longer than you originally planned. It's also a nice spot to observe the effort and teamwork between staff members and management, who are continuously helping each other, which is nice to see as a former server. An added bonus for me is the music that is usually playing at the restaurant which is a lot of throwback Motown. So next time you're looking for comfortable dinner spot, Barrel and Boar in Gahanna delivers on every level. read more

Had high hopes but just didn't live up to the hype. Staff and server were friendly enough and the location is actually a pretty great spot with the creek out back and fountains outside. We tried a couple of apps (deviled eggs and wings) and they were ok. The eggs were interesting with a bbq chip crumble. Unfortunately they feel a bit flat and the chips were actually stale so the crunch element didn't work. The wings actually a great dry rub on them but they were also dry on the inside... just overcooked at the end of the day. My colleagues had the ribs and a Cobb salad. Both commented that it was decent but nothing spectacular although the ribs looked very juicy and pulled super clean off the bone. I tried the sliced brisket with a side salad. Salad was standard run of the mill but I was pumped about the brisket. Unfortunately it was also hammered and super dry as a result. So dry I couldn't even eat all of it. I think it just been sitting in a hot box all day so while it has a great bark, it was just nearly inedible. Reviews are solid overall so we may have just caught them on a bad night. read more

Visited on a cold February Friday night so the restaurant was about 10 precent full from 5:30 to 7:30. Food was average. Apps: Hush puppies overcooked, buffalo chicken dip was obviously made from canned chicken and had an odd sour taste. Burger was below average with way too much salt on it. French fries were average. Brisket was good and the pulled pork was also good. Service was ok as we were the waitress only customer. Location is great and I can see how a night on the patio on a nice day would be great. Met my son for lunch and it was Beautiful out so we sat outside. Service was quick and friendly although she did not know if the Slaw was sweet or sour (It's Sour) since she don't eat slaw. My husband and I showed up to Barrel and Boar for a date night. We made reservations for 5:30 PM on a Friday. We were greeted and served by very friendly staff. My husband started the evening off with an Oktoberfest and I started the evening off with the Ace Perry Cider! The cider was absolutely delish! It was nice and crisp! My husband ordered the Cubano with sweet potato fries! He really enjoyed his meal! I loved the sweet potato fries dipped in their ranch. I ordered the Smokehouse Caesar Salad and some smoked wings! The wings were cooked to perfection! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside! I experimented with the sauces on the table and really enjoyed them all. Now, let's talk about this Smokehouse Caesar Salad. This salad is probably my favorite Caesar salad in Columbus! The jalapeño cornbread croutons are what simply make this salad so great! The salad was perfectly dressed and everything tasted so fresh! I will definitely be back! Lastly, I really love the ambiance of this restaurant. It's dimly lit with some soft music playing indoors. Also it's not fresh wild shrimp and I understand that going in. The dish needs alot of flavor to it. Needs more sausage and bacon flavor. More green onions and seasoning. The juices from the sausage is supposed to flavor the grits . They use kielbasa sausage instead of andouille. The dish missed for me but I have to grade on a curve because I know what they are suppose to taste like. Ribs Very tender but not smoked. You can tell they haven't been smoked. However they are tender and moist. If you want BBQ style ribs these are a miss. They are tender and you can tell they placed them on a grill to Crisp up the skin. Steak fries were good. Slaw was sweet so I added pepper for my taste. 3rd course BOURBON SALTED BREAD PUDDING This was the highlight of the night. Not too sweet not soggy. Needed more whipped cream but doesn't everything. Lol this had some soul to it. The salt hit right on time. Loved this course Service was great. Food came out quick. Server checked on us and took good care of us. To be inThe heart of Ohio, as well as the center, we were met with Southern charm and hospitality. Both the restaurant and the wait staff were very warm and welcoming. Our server was amazing! Everything she recommended, she hit the bull's-eye! The brisket was well seasoned and very nice and tender. The shrimp and grits tasted almost better than actually having it in New Orleans! And I consider myself a world traveler, and definitely a shrimp and grits connoisseur!! Went for restaurant week 2024 - all I can say is what a waste of money! We LOVE restaurant week every week because of the great food for great prices. The restaurant week special was $35 (plus $6 for beer) and the food was worth maybe $10 at best. Food was just not good, too much seasoning and dry, and the ambiance of the restaurant did not match what you would expect for a BBQ place. We were bummed we spent money at this place! We got the catered dinner for Christmas. It came with a ham and some sides that you just heat up in your oven and serve. The food was decent. It didn't really compare to Cameron Mitchell's dinner-in-a-box, but it is about half the cost. The problem is that the instructions for reheating the food was waaaaay off. We followed the instructions to the T (heated the ham for 2 hours at 250 and heated the sides for at the same 250 for 20 minutes) and everything was still super cold. The instructions said the ham should measure a 150 internal temperature I think, but after 2 hrs it was registering 60 degrees still. The sides were similarly cold lumps. We ended up taking out all the sides, adding some water, and heating them up on the stove top for about 20 minutes. We carved the warm portions off the surface of the ham and served that. Christmas wasn't ruined, by far, but it was just a bit annoying that we had a bunch of starving guests and they had to wait an extra hour for dinner. read more

I'd never heard of this place before, so I decided to give it a try and am so glad I did! The menu is decently sized with a good variety for different BBQ lovers. I ordered the pulled chicken with a sweet barbecue sauce, but what was neat was that you get a bottle of the desired sauce. You get to choose how much or little to add. The chicken alone was incredible. So tender! The sauce I chose wasn't too strong nor too sweet. I love vegetables, so I ordered the Brussel sprouts and WOW. I've never tasted them like this before. They were sweet and quite honestly tied for the best part of my meal. The fruit cup was a refreshing way to end the dinner and the blueberries were sweet - not that bitter taste they sometimes have. My waitress was so kind and took the time to really explain the menu since I had never been there before. The outdoor seating is beautiful too since it overlooks the Creekside water fountain and river. If you're looking for a well priced BBQ spot, I most highly recommend! read more

Came in on a Tuesday evening. Sat at the bar, D took care of us. He is very good and worthy of 6 stars alone. Started with a couple of craft beers that were very good. Had 5 smoked wings that were mediocre at best. Asked for sauce on the side, they were sauced on the plate. Supposedly they were smoked, but I tasted nada. They make a smoked old fashioned which is most impressive. Almost as good as I make at home. Ordered the burnt ends and mac and cheese. I'm a bit disappointed the best thing I ate was the noodles, but they were really, really good. Burnt ends varied in quality. Some were tender and yummy, some were chewy and not as yummy. Had the house BBQ sauce which was excellent, but shouldn't need a BBQ sauce to make a good dish great. Finished everything with a glass of Storypoint Cab and lived happily ever after. read more

I have been passing this place ever since I moved to the East side of town and I am glad I was able to finally try it. I actually took 3 coworkers here for restaurant week, but their regular menu was decently priced with A LOT of amazing options that most of us ended up ordering from their regular menu. It's fancy-ish inside, but with a rustic twist. I love the area it's by and the restaurant even has outside seating for warmer days. Will try to come back! They have a little party room that I am sure you could probably reserve out for bigger parties/groups. We were seated right away and towards the back where it was more dim and secluded which we actually loved. It wasn't overcrowded and you could have conversations with everyone. The place smelled AMAZING. It has the smokey BBQ flavor that you just want to lick the air. I ordered the half rib platter with comes with two sides (mac and cheese & fries) and toast for $17. I also ordered a cornbread cake ($3) to split with a friend. I personally do not think that's terribly priced. The four of us also split two bottles of wine and the bottles were $30 each. The food portions are HUGE! You could easily split the food with someone if you do not have a big appetite or do not eat a lot in one sitting. Our waitress checked in on us often to make sure we were doing okay. The food? Absolutely delicious. The toast had garlic and butter on it and was well toasted so you get the crunch, but still the softness in the middle. The fries were seasoned and you can tell the mac and cheese is home made. The ribs came dry, which I honestly appreciated. They had 3 bottles of their house made BBQ sauces (original, sweet, and spicy) on the tables for you to use. This was perfect because I could then use as much or as little of the sauces without it being slathered all over the ribs. I will say the ribs were a little dry, but nothing extreme. During our time there, we got a little visit from the manager and another employee. He never told us his position in the restaurant, but asked us how we heard of them. It was so sweet of both employees to come in and check on us to make sure we were doing alright on top of our own waitress. My friends got banana pudding and the hot chocolate cake (can't remember the name), but they said it was just okay. I guess the desserts were not worth it. I will most definitely be back! Usually liked this place, so much so, I decided to skip the traditional Thanksgiving Day meal and order (2 weeks ahead of time) 75$ worth of food for "pick-up" on TG day. Ordered the food, got e-mail confirmation to pick up 11:45am TG day. -Day before TG day, ANOTHER email confirm to pick up tomorrow at 11:45am -Drive there, doors closed, call the number on the email, Message says, "We are open only at Gahanna location today." Err, drive over to Gahanna location, CLOSED! WHAT? -After 45 minutes of wasted driving went home and can't get food bc all places are closed or pre-ordered meals! -Next day call a different number that was on my credit card transaction receipt. Picks up and it is the owner of B and B. Seems a legit mistake that they didn't make it clear that they were not open in several different ways. Somewhat takes responsibility for it. -Makes clear he will refund my purchase AND give a Gift Certificate for my troubles. COOL! -Refunded the next day...Thanks! -3 days goes by but no gift card in my email so I text again asking if he sent it bc I didn't receive it. He responds, "not yet, will definitely by the end of today. That was Thursday. It is now Sunday and still nothing. -Mistakes happen, sucky timing of the mistake as it pretty much ruined our TG day. But, to clearly be inattentive in the proceeding interactions shows the FIRST mistakes were not 1 off. Won't shop here again and tell everyone I know of this experience. read more

We had visited the Barrel & Boar in Newark but this time we were closer to the Gahanna location so we went there. Very cool location a bit different from the Newark downtown look. Service was excellent and the food was excellent. We ordered the burnt ends as an appetizer which we don't often do but having lived in Kansas City for quite a while we wanted to taste these burnt ends. They were nice, hot, and tasty. For the main course we had the brisket plate. Good but the meat was a bit dry. We also had the ribs and they were excellent. Sides were salad with house (very good), sweet potato fries (awesome) and amazing deep fried okra. All around a great experience. Highly recommend. read more

We had a 6:15 reservation for two. Our table wasn't ready. The table wasn't ready for the couple ahead of us, either. Then we were asked if we wanted a high top. We did not. Then we were asked if we would take a booth. We agreed, but we were then seated in the bar in a huge horseshoe booth. We were celebrating a birthday but ended up in the bar complete with Keeno and tv screens showing sports and old reruns. When making the reservation it was noted that this was a birthday reservation. No mention was made about the birthday. Expected more from this restaurant. read more
