This place has a casual, classic, and rustic vibe. We visited on a Thursday night, and it wasn't busy at all. The layout features a dedicated bar section and a separate dining area, plus they offer outdoor seating for warmer weather. Since it was quiet when we arrived, we were told we could sit anywhere. We chose a booth, though I did notice the seats were a little dirty and the side of the table was sticky. However, our server was very sweet and friendly. Our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, and the portion sizes were very generous. We were a party of 3 and ended up ordering the Cheeseburger, which came with fries and coleslaw (I definitely recommend this), Cajun Melt, which comes with fries but I substituted it with sweet potato fries (note: there is an extra cost for substitutions). Also, we ordered the Cheese Steak, which also came with fries and coleslaw. Everything tasted great. I really can't complain about the food. The food was decent for a small restaurant. My daughters really enjoyed the beer battered type fries. I got the chicken Philly and would not get it again because it is grilled chicken slices on a sub. I felt like I was eating very dry sliced chicken for the most part. My husband got the bacon cheese burger and thought it was juicy and flavorful. My daughter got the Italian flatbread and it was a super thin piece of pita. She did not particularly enjoy it. My other daughter got the kids grilled cheese and gave 2 thumbs up! Ticket time is excellent as we were here for maybe 10 minutes and everyone had their food even with a super crowded restaurant! TL;DR - This place is amazing. For the long version, wife and I went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was at like half capacity. Server was quick to seat us and take our order. Appetizers were out in like 7 minutes and food about 6 after that. Wife got pretzels (good. Not the greatest but good) and I got onion rings (tasted weirdly like tacos but in a good way. Very tasty!). Meals were a club w/ steak fries and a patty melt with regular fries. Steak fries were soft and fluffy, regular fries were perfectly crispy. Super cute place with a last minute decision to stop, thankfully they were able to get us in quickly. The place has a warming rustic fell, with plently of good times to be had. Used to come all the time when I worked at the airport and lived on this side of town. Always got the Beanie burger, it seems like. Different and good. Today I found myself nearby with just enough time, and stopped in. Didn't feel like a Beanie. But they have several other intriguing burgers, plus other sandwiches, wings, etc. I got a bowl of the cabbage hamburger soup to start. Warm, hearty, kinda like vegetable soup or deconstructed cabbage rolls. Tasty but subtle. I went with a bleu burger. Perfect, thick burger, good bun, just enough bleu cheese to add flavor and creaminess but not overwhelming- perfect balance. Just, yum. And, excellent fries, battered I think. Plus cole slaw- finely chopped and creamy, same as the Beanie burger. Good on its own too. Great service. Reasonable prices. Cramped lot in back, outdoor seating out front, dark and cozy inside. Lets start with the service, this was probably the best part of the visit. She was cool and relatable. When we arrived they put a wrapped napkin with utensils on the table. The napkin the utensils were wrapped in was sooooo dirty it was embarrassing. I cant believe someone set that on our table. Great place that's been in Gahanna forever it seems. I came on for a burger- and chose one that was recommended by a friend. You need friends like this! Loved the Academy Burger! Swiss cheese, bacon, grilled onions and bacon!!! Cooked perfectly for me and paired nicely with an ice cold beer. They had other options of burgers, but I'm glad I tried this one because it will make me a return customer. Great service by the team there, friendly and genuinely helpful. Sometimes you go to a place and the staff seem like they are just baiting you for a better tip- but not here. My father took my wife and I here after our arrival to Columbus last month. The restaurant had a good crowd but there were empty tables. My wife and I shared a Hamburger and Cabbage Soup, a Cajun Melt, and Fish and Chips that were all very yummy along with very tall drafts of both Columbus Brewing Company and BrewDog which were also amazing. My father had both the Hamburger and Cabbage Soup and Chicken Tenders which he also enjoyed. He particularly recommended the Hamburger and Cabbage Soup which is a great way to start a meal here. This was our first time in... The service was awesome - their wait staff interacted well with all the customers. The food not only came out quickly it was delicious. I had their famous burger - hamburger with cheese, Bacon, Cole slaw, lettuce, tomato, and onions which was delicious. I also had the onion rings as one of my sides which were good but there were only 5 of them. The other side was the Cole slaw was I loved. This well reviewed instition in the heart of Gahanna has its rating correct-- Mrs hammer square on Mr. nail. Three-and-a-half stars is right and is what I'd give it if I could. Meaning it is a place I would visit again, hell maybe hang out there if I lived in that part of town, to unwind on a friday night, watch a game, or shoot the shit with the regs. A Okay is okay after all. No shame. But I find their fare not world beater by any stretch. A comfortable, classic bar inside, and a breezy, streetside coolness outside meets any guess who comes. A staff of welcoming, warm people helps with everything you need. Standard drafts, full bar, and pub food will fill out your experience. Most of my party choosed burgers. I chomped on their Bleu Cheese rendition featuring crumbled Bleu. It was good but being spoiled by burgers in this town it did not blow me away. The fry side was not generous in proportion--a long term problem with pubs made worse lately with the increase inflation. My girlfriend chose the burger named after her alma matar, the Academy Burger. The backstory is that students from the Cherry Bottom alt high, Columbus Academy, would gather here for post-game feast and festivities, often ordering the burger featuring swiss, bacon, and grilled onions--eventually giving it the new name. Her report was equal to mind--it was Ok but not as good as she remembered from her teenager days. Her kids order a burger with ketchup and chicken fingers which were reported as Ok as well. All in all, it is a lovely spot, an institution worth visiting, but not a must go spot. Perhaps, once the weirdness of our post covid economics and political craziness subsides and things feel back to normal they can up their culinary production. Really they are not far off. I did like it. The sweet potato fries.... Disappointing. Their oil must of been too hot as the sweet potatoes were scorched, some more than others, and most were very dry in the inside. Did not like at all. However- They get props for the sweet potatos fries actually being freshly cut... you could tell they were and its easy to scorch that type of fry. They nicely switched them out at no cost and they said the russet potato fries were hand cut there.... Not sure about that...I bet they were once fresh cut, but Im almost certain these were frozen after being cut as there were no skin on them and they had almost a batter/seasoning on them like gordon fries.... The kids really liked their burgers, my son prefers your burgers. The Shrimp were ok, but the fish all around was terrible it was soggy and had no flavor. This is a pretty good hole in the wall place! I'm staying in Gahanna for a bit, and thought I would try something new for lunch and after looking through a list of some local places, I decided on Gahanna Grill! I came here on a Monday at noon, and it was already crowded! So that was a good sign! (The did follow Covid rules and had plexus-glass between booths as well.) The place itself is in a small run down looking building which gives it a vintage feel. The inside had pictures dating from years pasts of the restaurant which was neat and they had some pretty cool Christmas decorations. I ordered a chicken sandwich, with fries and homemade coleslaw (which is apparently a specialty of theirs.) Now I know chicken sandwiches are pretty basic, but this one one great! For a great price, the sandwich had two chicken breasts on it which you don't see too often when getting one. Overall, it wasn't anything amazing, but it was good and filled me up. (Which can be hard to do). The fires were amazing! They appeared to be the flash fried ones and boy, did they suffice. I'm not usually a fry person but I ate every single one and could have gone for more. The slaw I honestly wasn't a fan of. I was hoping for something great since that was something they were known for. The cabbage is chopped up into super super tiny pieces which was different. It honestly almost had the consistency of cream of wheat which was just a little odd to me and the flavor wasn't anything out of the ordinary. But...it came free with the meal so there really isn't much to complain about. The service was decent. The waitress looked like she was swamped but was still attentive. She wore a mask the whole time which was nice as well. Overall, this place was pretty good and you get a lot of food for the price. We used to eat here all the time when we lived in Columbus. Monday we took our daughter and 3 grandsons for lunch. They still have great burgers and onion rings. Yesterday I had an unusual experience at the Gahanna Grill. We arrived around 7pm and wanted sit outside as I'm not really up for going into restaurant just yet since COVID. We waited about 30 minutes which was fine as we got some waters and enjoyed talking before getting a table. After we were seated, we had two waitresses greet us as neither of them communicated on whose table we were. When one waitress that the other one had received our order, she did not come back and check on us which is fine but the other waitress did not come check on us either. We ordered the Jalapeño poppers for an appetizer and was surprised that they were not very spicy. If you like jalapeños but not the spice, this is for you as the cream cheese part is strong. For my main meal I ordered a Reuben which was great but they put the Thousand Island dressing on the side. At first, this bothered me but it also allowed me to take the leftovers home without it getting soggy. I did talk to the manager about my experience as when my food arrived without any silverware or napkins and she really helped out. There was one waitress the was not waiting on us who stepped up and got us water, napkins silverware, and more sauce. I understand that there are good waitresses and bad but the manager and I believe the owners daughter really made up for my negative experience with my original waitress. The reason I gave four stars instead of lower is because of the positive experiences I've had for years. read more

So this time visiting the Gahanna Grill I went for dinner and was with my Sweetie. We ALWAYS love it here and he ALWAYS gets the same thing. I always get a salad - just a matter of picking between 2 of them. It was COLD out the night we went and while I tried to pick a booth where it wouldn't be too cold (away from windows/exterior walls) - we were directly across from the door and got nailed by a cold breeze everytime it was opened. Bad choice. My bad. BUT that was the only thing I could not like there. The service was excellent (except we had to wait a little too long for the bill) - granted we were there before 5 PM, but still very attentive and kept my Diet Pepsi filled. Sweetie got the Beenie Burger - as always. It comes with fries and cole slaw and he gobbed all the slaw on top of the burger, even though it comes with slaw on it. He said there were more fries than in the past - which makes him HAPPY! I got the SW salad with grilled chicken. There was a generous amount of sliced chicken - along with shredded cheddar, jalapenos, sliced black olives and tomatoes. You choose the dressing and I'm an oil and vinegar girl. The salad was decent sized but iceberg lettuce only. Not too bad given the big size and low price. When it came time to check out, I had a "coupon" from my phone provider - Straight Talk - which I had never used before. You have to show it on your phone and you can only access the "coupon" once - as it's a one-use discount. Showing the waitress went smoothly although it clicked to another screen too soon while the waitress was holding it. Regardless, she gave us the $6 coupon. Another great visit. I was dining here with my family a few days ago and the food was good, but it was very unsettling to here a shouting match from the male server on staff that day who addressed us as artie. He was yelling at a young lady on staff and was causing an extremely uncomfortable situations for his tables and set a horrible tone for the rest of our dining experience. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. I had an Italian sub and the meats/toppings weren't sliced for the sandwich, so they were falling off the sides and had to be cut (or just taken off to eat separately. Shredding a giant piece of lettuce shouldn't be hard.) It was odd that nobody had cleaned off the bar or most of the tables, so there were dirty dishes everywhere. We wiped off a table that didn't have used plates and drinks on it so we could sit down. Someone finally cleared off the bar when another couple came in, looked confused at the general mess and finally asked a server "is anyone sitting here?" The staff was complaining to each other/some locals about how crowded the 4th of July had been in the restaurant, but you would think 24 hours later everything would be back under control. I wish we could give zero stars. That is exactly what this restaurant deserves. We were here on Friday evening, September 24, 2021. They have a, "Seat yourselves." No problem, we found a table out on the patio. We were almost immediately brought menu's. After that, we NEVER seen a wait staff member for a minimum of 20 minutes. When the waiter came to his table behind him, we asked who was the waiter/waitress for our table. First, he acted super annoyed that we had stopped him and asked him a question. He reluctantly said he would get our waitress. A short time later the same waitress that brought us our menu's came back, and again like the other waiter, she acted as if we were being an inconvenience. She took our drink order, and appetizers and we NEVER seen her again. The bar staff brought our drinks, and another waiter brought our appetizers. After eating our appetizers and drinking our drinks no one once bothered to come back and check on us, nor take our meal orders. So, after almost an hour of very pathetic, poor service [if you can call it that] we left a $20.00 bill and a note on the table and walked out and left. Not one employee that worked at this restaurant appeared to even remotely care about customer service. I understand a lot of businesses are short staffed, and the employees they have are a bit overwhelmed. However, this was beyond that. We were more than patient, and was never once rude to anyone. They were also not even that busy for a Friday evening. Other patrons were getting some kind of service except our table and the other one behind ours from what we could tell. Will never return, nor recommend this business. Side note, the appetizer was mediocre at best. The potato skins tasted like microwaved skins, and the chicken fingers were most definitely frozen. So, maybe it was for the best we didn't get entrées from here. We ended up around the corner at Barrel & Boar where we ended up having fantastic service, and food. Celebrated my birthday with a dine-in lunch at the Gahanna Grill today. I had to go with the Beanie Burger! This half-pound burger comes topped with cheese of choice (cheddar for me), house made coleslaw, sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and mayo. I'm not a fan of slaw, so I got it on the side for my wife, she likes slaw and says theirs is just a bit sweet but good. This amazing burger comes with a generous serving of seasoned fries and a serving of slaw. My wife got the half-pound bacon cheeseburger and chose pepper jack cheese and substituted fries for onion rings and also got a serving of slaw on the side. I really want to give Gahanna Grill 4-stars, but I just can't do it! They have a great $5.99 burger happy hour special and their burgers are GOOD. You would be hard-pressed to find a better burger (and fries) for that price. That's $2-3 off their regular price ($8-9). The burgers are cooked to order and juicy. They come with french fries and coleslaw. Despite making a solid burger, the fries and coleslaw were average at best. The coleslaw had an odd texture. Very finely cut, seemingly more mushy than crunchy. It was a little off-putting to me and to other people in my party. The atmosphere is also a bit "dated." I understand it's the neighborhood restaurant and there's really no need to be fancy, but a few renovations would definitely make the dining experience more enjoyable. For these reasons, I am going to deduct half a star. I kind of feel like a jerk, because the service was excellent. We had a party of 14 and the lady taking our orders was extremely patient. Most of us wanted to pay separately at the end and she painstakingly split the bill 14 ways without any attitude. She was kind of my hero after that. Anyways, Gahanna Grill is a great place to grab a burger. It's a pretty no frills restaurant and atmosphere, but I don't mind.
