Inspired by Italian trattorias, French bistros, and the grand cafes of Vienna, Grand Lux Cafe is a more upscale, "global" version of The Cheesecake Factory with a casual flair located at the Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus that fulfills any hunger. We've visited this establishment numerous times. Upon arrival for dinner tonight with no reservations, my partner and I were greeted by the host and got a booth by the window. The table was set exactly to our expectations. The bread plate was correctly placed to the right of the silverware, and the napkin was centered with the menu laid neatly on top. The eclectic menu of around 150 items offers extraordinary variety and selection, with flavor profiles ranging from Thai, Malaysian, and Caribbean to classic American and European specialties. We decided on Mini Cheeseburgers, Fresh Grilled Salmon accompanied by Sweet Potato Fries and Steamed Broccoli. We even saved room for dessert and opted for Chocolate Deep Dark Fudge Cake. Complimentary hot sourdough bread with olive oil and butter started our meal. Our food was absolutely amazing, using the freshest ingredients, the right portion size, and a beautifully done presentation. The price was comparable to the area. We haven't been to Grand Lux in a really long time, maybe 10 yeats or so and decided to go this past weekend for a family dinner. There was a bit of a wait but only about 20 minutes which is nothing on a Saturday night. We were seated in a very nice and spacious booth in the back. Our waitress was very nice, when my daughter wanted to order a salad we asked if it had any nuts in it and she told us there were definitely nuts in the dressing. Thank God she told us, otherwise, we probably would be spending Sat night on the emergency room. She proceeded to ask if anyone else has any allergies and wrote everything down. Our food came out fairly quickly. We had general Tso's cauliflower, potato rolls and fried pickles for appetizers. For our entrees, we had chicken quesadilla, mini cheeseburgers, Salisbury steak, fish and chips and chicken butter pasta. Everything was delicious and we even had some leftovers. I was already in Paramus mall and my friend and I wanted to dine in so we decided to try Grand lux cafe. They were having happy hour from 3-6:30pm so we decided to partake. For happy hour, they sit you in the dining area by the bar instead of the other seating areas. Our server was really nice and gave great recommendations. I got the happy hour burger which had double patties. I added a side of fries for $1.50. The burger was delicious and very filling. I also got the buffalo chicken rolls which were tasty even though it was a little salty. My favorite was the dessert. That butter cake is so good. It very moist and has a crusted sugar coating on top. My friend and I asked for a side of caramel to go with it but honestly you don't need it, the cake does well on its own. The Grand Lux Cafe was a delicious culinary experience. We ordered the Sunday Night Pasta, which featured delicious short ribs, sausage, and ground beef. We also tried the Caramel Chicken, which was sweet, savory, and cooked just right. Ethan was very professional and provided nothing short of legendary service. My dining partner was iffy about eating here before a movie and ended up having regrets. Very slow service and inattentive waiter and his smash burger came out missing pickles and sauce. It looked small for $20. My avocado wontons were just ok. At 6:30 on a Wednesday it wasn't too crowded but the waiter kept going over to other tables and chatting them up instead of refilling our drinks. Will go to the food court next time. read more

Grand Luxe is always a great meal. No matter brunch, lunch, dinner, or just desserts. We came on a Saturday evening for two and it was maybe 10 minutes before we were seated. We fortunately we seated away from the table with a high chair as it was extremely crowded. Our server immediately came over to get our drinks and if we wanted bread. Thankfully our drinks and bread came out quick because we were starving. We ordered entrees right away the chicken royale and garlic chicken and you can never go wrong and always have leftovers. We had a butter cake while there and waiting for our to go orders and cookies to go. The butter cake is always delicious and I was able to get the last one. My only complaint was for pre set tables our table and all the tables surrounding us had food residue or some type of grossness on the plates or silverware. Came here for a quick lunch after running some errands on Saturday afternoon. I sat at the bar, ordered a peach Cosmo, which was so tasty and a chicken but avocado sandwich with sweet potato fries. I have visited here a few times with friends and family, and overall experience has always been pretty good. The food here is absolutely amazing, and they have so many options to choose from. They do run out of some of the more popular options quickly, so be prepared for that if you are visiting towards the end of their service. They have beautiful decor with plenty of seating, so its easy to relax. Staff are usually very friendly, and the service is quick enough even when they are packed. Definitely recommend. read more

When we first walked in no one was at the front but then the person came and took our names down. We asked to be by the bar and were seated quickly. Chill vibe by the bar. We were there to grab a quick lunch. Friendly waiter although service was slow and it wasn't that packed. Brought us bread after our apps had already gotten to the table so didn't get to enjoy it. Came here for a bite after watching a movie at the AMC theater in the mall. Only waited 5 minutes despite it being Saturday peak lunch time. Place has a large capacity and can accommodate big groups. Overall ambience reminded me of a lower class, older Cheesecake Factory. You can tell this place has been around for a while and not updated much. Our dinner napkins were literally disintegrating and left a large amount of lint on any clothing it touched. Server was nice and came by often. The mocktails are were sweet so would either ask it to be diluted or pass on it. Waitress was nice, but it took far too long to get our food. We were only two people and had a very simple order ( not even drinks). By the time my food came, it was room temp cold. And maybe I'm imagining it but the portions seems smaller compared to years ago. I was really looking forward to eating here, but my visit was honestly frustrating. We ended up waiting an extremely long time for our food, way longer than what would be considered normal. When my burger finally arrived, I had specifically asked for cheese -- and it came out completely plain. After such a long wait, it was really disappointing to still not get the order right. For a place with such a good reputation, I expected much better service and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this visit missed the mark. I dined here last weekend after seeing a movie at the AMC next door. Grand Lux Cafe is owned by the same company as the Cheesecake Factory - and it's pretty obvious. Very similar ambiance and a menu that is pages on pages long. It was fairly busy for a Sunday but we were able to get a booth without a reservation. We shared the avocado wontons as an appetizer, which were perfectly crispy and came with a tangy dipping sauce. I wasn't too hungry so I ordered the ahi tuna taco appetizer as my entree. You'd never know it was an appetizer, it came with four tacos that were packed with fresh tuna and avocado. Our waitress was very friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her. The service was quick as well, we didn't wait long for our orders to be ready. Some of the dishes are average and lack flavoring. Some are pretty good. They seem to lack consistency. I've had almost every type of "international" dish on the menu and they are definitely weak with the seasoning... I need that international/ethnic flare, come on!!! My most recent visit here last week was on the disappointing side. I have doubts that chefs make everything fresh... and possibly reheat the food. -Calamari $13 - Marinara sauce was... not saucy? It was lumpy and cold. Portion was small. 3/5 -Pasta carbonara with chicken $26 - I like my pasta saucy and it came out with very little of it... the chicken was dense and on the dry side... 3/5 The one thing I do order all the time.... Is the passion fruit ginger crush drink!!!! It's my favorite mocktail. 5/5 Wait times can be long (even with a reservation) and there's a lot of traffic because it's located inside a mall. Service is okay. They could be more attentive. Would I eat here again? Maybe if it's convenient. Maybe if their portions and quality were better. Got the Salisbury steak and it was amazing. Comes with a beautiful topping of mashed potatoes and a generous amount of broccoli, carrots and string beans. The only thing was the gravy was kind of tart for my taste. I like a gravy that's like the kind you get at KFC, just flavorful but not tart. They might have added too much vinegar. But all in all, a very satisfying meal that is comforting and delicious. They should have a Thanksgiving meal with turkey and stuffing as well. read more

I generally do not submit reviews but I need to take a moment to acknowledge superior service. I had a 7 pm dinner reservation last night at Grand Lux Cafe. When I arrived it was exceptionally busy with many people, including myself, anxious to be seated. I watched as Dionfia and Julie calmly checked people in and found them tables as quickly as possible. In this day and age when service people can take on the angst of their customers, these two hosts smiled and kept everyone loose and relaxed while tracking all the moves needed, like a game of chess, on the computer screen. As someone who owned a service business, I always notice those who really care about their customers. For this, Dionfia and Jule deserve to be singled out. read more

But i think if you get a basic mix (vodka soda, rum and coke) or glasses of wine, you will be fine. Extremely busy here for lunch, though it was Election Day. We had to wait a bit for a table, service was slow, food came out after a long wait, etc. It was plain busy. That said, we were happy with the food we had for lunch. Prices were fair for lunch specials and our server, while very busy, did a good job. The grilled salmon was juicy and Caesar salad with it came out tasty. Nice flavors. Even the soup of the day, Moroccan spice, was quite nice. Of particular note here are the smoothies. I think the prices are very reasonable for what you get. If you have kids or enjoy a smoothie yourself, try one! The bread and olive oil kept us busy while waiting for our lunches. If you enjoy Cheesecake Factory but hate being cramped and eating in the dark, this is where you want to go. After, all this is their sister restaurant. After seeing Circus Vazquez, we decided to come here because it was nearby. For the food, we tried three appetizers and 2 entrees. Chicken Bao Buns 8/10: The aioli on these really made them pop. We enjoyed them a lot. Asian Short Rib Tacos 8/10: We loved these too, the kimchi and chili sauce were delicious. Volcano Shrimp 7/10: Fried Shrimp with a spicy and sweet garlic sauce. Nothing special but the shrimp were fried perfectly. If you have not picked up on the pattern already, everything is covered in sauce. This is not a bad thing for me, as I love sauces. My only complaint is that they seem to use the same sauces for various recipes. Indochine Shrimp and Chicken 6/10: This sounded like a great dish, but it didn't translate that. This was chicken and shrimp with onions, a ginger sauce, apricots, etc. It was a great dish on paper--but it was only good and, not GREAT. Salmon Three Ways 5/10: Ambitious dish that fell a bit short. The flavors were there, but the presentation seemed a bit rushed and the salmon looked like they portioned it by hand and not with a knife. It was still tasty. We also ordered two shots of Grand Marnier, Mango Mule, another cocktail, and who knows what else. We were pretty lit before we got there. When they brought out the Indochine Shrimp and Chicken dish they forgot the shrimp. They brought the shrimp about 10-15 minutes later but by then my dish was lukewarm/cold. Rigo our waiter made it right and Leslie the manager took care of us. The customer service was very well done, but the execution of the food was not great. I've been to Grand Lux plenty of times but today was my first time going for brunch....and I hold a very high bar when it comes to brunch, (and please note that this review is solely a review of my brunch experience). We made a reservation and were promptly seated upon arrival by two very welcoming hosts and our server immediately came over to greet us and to bring us waters. The brunch menu is rather limited and there's really nothing on the brunch menu that jumps out as a WOW I MUST TRY THIS, but it does offer all traditional breakfast items in addition to specialty brunch cocktails (although there aren't any bottomless cocktail options like mimosas or bloody marys which you can typically find on most Sunday brunch menus at other establishments). For our cocktails we went with the espresso martinis which were made with cold brew and were pretty tasty. I went with the garden omelette with hash browns and my friend went with the short rib benedict with browns. We also had the Asian Nachos as an appetizer. The hash browns were presented in a unique way yet literally had no flavor whatsoever. The omelette was extremely tasty and stuffed with just the right amount of fillings. My friend enjoyed her benedict and said the portion was plentiful. The Asian Nachos were unique and while packed with flavor, there was just something about the flavors that wasn't harmonious. From now on I will stick to lunch and dinner at Grand Lux and leave brunch up to the restaurants who know how to do it best . read more
