Yesterday, I heard the voice of angels... and it was coming straight from Station 8 BBQ in Wichita,…read moreKansas, my heaven on Earth. From the moment I walked in, I knew I was about to experience something special. My taste buds didn't just wake up -- they rejoiced! This wasn't just a meal; it was a full-blown experience wrapped in smoke and perfection. Let's talk about the legends first. Their smoked sausage gravy and biscuits, and Texas Twinkies have wowed me before, and I'm here to testify: they absolutely did not let me down this time. The biscuits and gravy were flawless -- perfectly tender biscuits smothered in rich, savory smoked sausage gravy that tasted like it was crafted with love and a little bit of magic. Every bite was comfort food at its highest level. And the Texas Twinkies - Amazingly indescribable. Smoky, cheesy, savory masterpieces with just the right kick -- the kind of bite that makes you pause mid-conversation just to appreciate what's happening. But now... the revelation. The new pork belly cinnamon rolls with frosting. Let me just say this: talk about melting in your mouth. Sweet, smoky pork belly wrapped in a delicious blend of warm cinnamon and brown sugar. Slowly melted into a sweet and Rich caramel-like sweetness and topped with luscious frosting. It was the kind of creation that makes you question why all cinnamon rolls aren't made this way. The balance of savory and sweet was nothing short of genius. Station 8 BBQ doesn't just serve food -- they serve moments. They serve joy. They serve flavors that linger in your memory long after the plate is clean. If you haven't made the pilgrimage yet, go. Your soul (and your stomach) will thank you.

When I tell yall that this was the best brisket I've ever had in my LIFE. I live in Southern California and I can't wait to have an excuse to fly back and eat some. The pulled pork was good, the pork belly was bomb, but that melt in your mouth, juicy, splashing with flavor brisket, is, "I'll take an unnecessary trip to middle of nowhere Kansas" LIFE-CHANGING. Waited about an hour in line while it was hard sprinkling and it was worth every second. Guys working the front are hilarious and welcoming. I can't wait to go back!

Another year, another restaurant pops up to occupy the doomed little building near 47th and Seneca…read more Everything about Sweet Willy's is heavy-handed, from the menu's cartoon cowboy claiming this to be the best barbecue he's had, to the amount of hickory used in the meat that ensures you're going to smell like the woods before you make it back to the car. Going so over the top doesn't help my old barbecue standbys: the pork was on the way to becoming jerky, the brisket was dry and the fat unrendered, and even the sausage had a casing that was too thick for my liking. The ribs, on the other hand, stood up to the smoke well, producing a caramelized crust that gave way to tender meat that came off the bone cleanly. I'm not normally a ribs guy, but it was one of the saving graces of the meal. What Sweet Willy's lacks in panache it makes up for in gusto. The menu is peppered with all sorts of non-traditional applications of barbecue, from poutine to chicken lollipops to tacos, though the most surprisingly enjoyable thing may be the burnt ends, which are tossed in a honey and garlic sauce that is not only more subtle than the KC-style sauces served with everything else, but surprisingly works well with the sugars in the meat in a way that doesn't overwhelm. There's clearly a lot of effort put into Sweet Willy's, but not a lot of confidence, no matter how many "yums" are on the menu. There's some good to be found in places you wouldn't expect, but the brisket and pork are serve as the foundation upon which the rest of the menu is built, so improving them should be the first priority.

The garlic slaw isn't too sweet, the sweet potato salad is a surprisingly delicious change from traditional, and the baked beans are the perfect mix of sweet smoky and a kick. Pork, brisket, and turkey are all moist and top notch! The mild sauce is very sweet and the hot sauce has a nice vinegar flavored kick. You need to try this place out for some good Kansas BBQ.
