I'm surprised that there isn't more BBQ in Wichita but this place didn't disappoint. They aren't kidding about the huge baked potatoes and they are cooked just right and loaded with toppings. I wasn't too excited about the sides (I'm all about fries and rings with my BBQ) so I got 1/2 lb of lean brisket. The meat was very lean and tender with a nice smokey flavor. It got only 4 stars because I suspect they use the Texas crutch which prevents a nice crisp bark. I was not able to get my go-to as they only have burnt ends as a special. Service was great. Friendly people and the food was prepared fresh for us. It's a cute little place with lots of seating inside and everything was clean and tidy. read more

Everything I ordered was so delicious. I ordered the 2 meat plate. The pulled pork was there and delicious with the hot sauce but the star was the ribs! Amazingly tender and smoky. This is the best BBQ Wichita has to offer. Brisket is juicy and tender, ribs are "fall off the bone", turkey is fantastic, pulled pork is awesome, hot links are fantastic. I have never had a meat/meal at When Pigs Fly that wasn't delicious and made you want to come back for more. All of the side dishes are fantastic as well, I personally love the beans and coleslaw. Both hot and mild bbq sauce is available at the table. The restaurant is nice and roomy with booths and regular seating. It's what you'd find in a typical BBQ joint and exceptionally clean. The employees are top notch, always walking around making sure guests are doing ok, tidying up the place etc. If I had to recommend a BBQ joint in Wichita, this is my go to!! I stopped in for lunch after seeing the great reviews. I'm from out of town and am always on the hunt for good BBQ. I had ribs, turkey, baked beans and Cole slaw. The baked beans had a nice kick to them and were very good as was the slaw. The ribs, in my opinion, were over cooked, but maybe the folks around here prefer them that way. They weren't bad by any means, just not how I like ribs. The turkey was spot on and perfect! It was the best turkey I've had in a while. The atmosphere is great. The service was very friendly and helpful. They also have great iced tea. If I lived here I would definitely return to try the other meats and sides. read more

I have stalked this place on social media for over a year watching their creations. Today I had the day off and decided to try the place. I called up a buddy and we met over that the location. I decided to order The Bulldozer since I could try brisket, turkey and hot links. Also got a side of their baked beans. The sandwich was huge. Turkey and links good. I was disappointed with how much fat was in my brisket to the point of unenjoyable. The beans were pretty good. My buddy got a two meat tray with brisket, hot links, and a side of macaroni. I loved that they weren't covered in sauce but still had great flavor. The green beans were delicious. The baked beans were a little spicy to me, but still tasted good. Saw online that they had a burnt ends mac and cheese special which made today's lunch decision easy cause burnt ends. So we stopped by late afternoon for lunch to go and ordered the special as well as a smoked turkey sandwich. After a short wait we had our food. Always appreciate a short wait time. I did try a bite of the special which was really, really good. The burnt ends are perfectly seasoned, the mac and cheese was creamy and it had onion crisps as well as green onions. All of this came together in the best BBQ mac and cheese I've ever had to date. Hubby also enjoyed it very much! As for the turkey sandwich, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Due to reflux issues I have to opt out of having BBQ sauce on anything which can be a bummer. But not with this sandwich. Again, this turkey is perfectly seasoned and it's not dry. The gentleman who gave me info was kind and courteous. 3. Brisket or ribs is usually what I try at any BBQ spot. So here I went with the ribs. WOW! The barbecue here is SPOT ON. I have tried their combo platter with cheddar sausage, brisket, and ribs. The meat is flavorful, juicy, and smoky. The only small flaw would be that out of the two times I've ordered here, my second order's ribs were on the dryer side. Nonetheless, the delicious sides (ESPECIALLY THE CREAMED CORN) totally made up for it. Their beans and green beans are also very tasty. You cannot beat the prices either, for such quality barbecue I was surprised at how reasonable their prices are here! I'm an east sider for the most part. But I started eating here early this year because my partner works on the west side. And now I'm happy as can be to drive across town for this BBQ. I absolutely love their weekly specials. (Follow them on social media for the weekly specials). Any of the bbq on their Mac is my go to. I'm also not a huge Mac n cheese fan, but that's changed after eating their homemade Mac n cheese! So creamy and delicious. And it stays creamy and delicious the entire meal. The staff is wonderful. When Pigs Fly has amazing BBQ! It's been well over a year since I've eaten at this restaurant, even with the pandemic going on they did not sacrifice great service or flavor. I ordered the ribs, brisket, and jalapeño cheddar sausage, for the sides I ordered the big beans and cream corn. The ribs and sausage were incredible, and the brisket was very good. All meats had perfect texture and flavor. The baked beans are the best I've had at a restaurant and the cream corn was delicious. I didn't think I could experience BBQ that tastes quite this bad. The brisket was dryyyy... pulled pork was dry and bland. I paid so much for it that I continued to try and choke it down. The baked beans were ok at best and the potato salad tasted like it was bought from the Walmart deli. I truly expected more. Nobody in my family wanted to finish it off. We arrived around closing on Tuesday nite. Asked if they were still serving. Was told yes. Since they take about an hour to clean up. So glad we stayed. They only had 4 ribs left, but they were delicious. Not died out at all. Sister had the Links. She says they were spicy, but tried one and not too spicy for me. Brother in law had the brisket. He says it too was delicious. We had sides, creamed corn- very tasty, macaroni salad- very good but the kicker was the BBQ beans- deliciousoso!! Be sure and get the beans!! Cashier very sweet! I was disappointed in the BBQ pork ribs at When Pigs Fly BBQ. I grew up in Wichita KS and the pork ribs from Rudy's Ribs were a regular Friday/Saturday treat for me and my best buddy -- who would become my husband. Unfortunately, Rudy's is long gone and the only ribs I could find were overly spicy and a mixture of several types of beans as a side. Won't be eating here again. I was surprised by all the positive reviews because hot and spicy is not generally not standard fare in this Midwest town. Sigh.... Guess I got spoiled. read more
