Recently ate here again!! I e moved to Battleground from Arizona and remembered a great meal I had there many years ago! Nice to see things don't change- great friendly service, delicious food and a funky atmosphere outside. I LOVED the fish & Chips- was pleasantly surprised that it was made with Steelhead!! Outstanding!! Will be a new favorite place!

My wife's parents were the first to mention this place to us. They had been in the area a little while back for an event and stopped here, later telling us how much they enjoyed it. Based on their recommendation, we decided to make it one of the stops on our exploration of the area. Parking was easy to find--we were able to grab a spot right on the street close to the front entrance. From the moment we walked inside, the atmosphere pulled us in. The decor immediately stood out with its forest and nature-inspired theme. It has a rustic, almost park-like charm, with accents that give a nod to the outdoors and even a touch of mountain biking or adventure culture woven into the details. It felt cozy yet lively, the kind of space that makes you want to linger for a while. We chose a table near the front window, which gave us a nice view and plenty of natural light. Menus and waters were brought over quickly, and the service throughout our visit was attentive without being rushed. As we looked over the menu, we were impressed by the variety--there seemed to be something for everyone, from hearty comfort food to lighter, creative dishes. My wife decided on the pear and blue cheese salad topped with steak bites, while I went for the bacon burger, opting to skip the garlic aioli and tomato. While we waited, we enjoyed talking about the rest of our day's plans, but it wasn't long before our meals arrived. The presentation was spot-on--everything looked fresh and inviting. My wife's salad was colorful and beautifully put together, with generous pieces of steak that paired perfectly with the sweet pear and tangy blue cheese. My burger was just as good as it looked: juicy, flavorful, and well-balanced with the smoky bacon. Each bite was satisfying, and it was clear that the ingredients were fresh and prepared with care. We left feeling very happy with our choice. It was a great stop, and while the food alone was enough to make the visit worthwhile, we also noticed the large selection of beers on tap that we didn't get a chance to try this time. That just gives us another reason to return. Next time, we'll definitely pair the meal with a beer flight or two. Overall, this place checked all the boxes: welcoming atmosphere, great service, delicious food, and plenty left to explore on the menu. A spot worth coming back to for sure.

Ive been here over a few dozen times and no matter what it's been phenomenal. In the middle of COVID with only one worker working. Currently at full staff. The food is always aolid solid. There's been no point we were dissatisfied. The Inside is freaking adorable. We've had everything on the menu it's been amazing.

Hailey is the best waitress and very sweet as well. $18.00 for the burger and $3.50 for the the fries. So $21.50 total. The burger there on the buns are very thin. I had not been there in about a year. They burgers seemed to be thinner and smaller and the price is higher than when I was there last time. I ordered the burger medium and it came out well done. Oh well. They were really nice to cut the burger in half for us since we said we were splitting it. I guess my question is if the chef knows the burger is supposed to be medium and he/she cut it in half wouldn't you think the chef would notice that it's well done as opposed to way I ordered it as medium. The burger was so sloppy with all the lettuce, onion and the sauce they put on it that I could not eat it as my hands were covered in drippy watery sauce. So I just took the meat off of the bun and ate the meat and left the bun and veggies on the plate. The wings were not as good as I remember either. I was really craving their wings too. But I was disappointed with the mango and kung pao wings. It seems like they have been going with a different supplier for their wings. Just not as great as I was hoping or nearly as good as they used to be. The beers were good tho. Happy hour is 2-4 so we just missed it. The place was packed too. I might give this place another try on another year. The double burger at Wendy's is a better deal for half the price.

The beer was pretty good! The space is casual and comfortable. The service was good if a bit harried. That said, it was super busy. The food took forever and the coating on my fish and chips was burnt tasting. The pub platter was good but the cheese sauce was broken. We might go back for the beer but not the fish and chips.

Barrel Mountain Brewing has an old wooden rustic vibe inside. It feels kind of dark and has vintage decor. There's bar seating, regular and hightop tables, and outdoor patio tables. We went at dinner time and were seated immediately. We ordered the shaved Brussel sprouts, the bacon burger, the kids Mac n cheese, and the luv ya lager. The shaved Brussel sprouts are not something I would order again. They were drenched in oil and lacked flavor. The bacon burger was delicious. The garlic aioli added a nice flavor. I would have liked the burger a little less cooked so that it would be more juicy. The brioche bun was soft and fresh. The Mac n cheese was creamy. The flavor was great and I would get this again too. The luv ya lager was a nice refreshing light beer. Service at Barrel Mountain was great too. I enjoyed my visit here and would return!

Steelhead Tacos and Steelhead Fish & Chips

OMG. One of the best meals we've had in a long time. We split the Steelhead Tacos and Fish & Chips. I honestly can't decide which was more delicious! The Fish & Chips had the most perfect batter ever. It was thin and crispy with amazing flavor from the beer and spices used that elevated the fish without overpowering. The fish itself was juicy and tender easily breaking apart with just a slight push down of the fork. The tartar sauce was sooo unique; it had a hint of heat from the peppers but still hit all the relish notes you'd want and expect. The fries were shoestring style and amazing. Crispy shell with a soft center and super salty and not greasy at all. I've never eaten so many fries from a single dish in my life. We got the garlic aioli on the side for the fries and it was dynamite! Finally, the tacos were so delightful. Again, the fish was cooked perfectly with a nice blackened sear from Cajun seasoning which had just the right amount of heat. It is paired with creamy, sweet, and tangy toppings including a pineapple salsa, slaw, and a crema of some sort that left my mouth watering for more! Oh, and their beer is great. lol But that shouldn't be a surprise. I love the No Bad Days IPA which is widely available in the PNW. Tonight I tried the Unplug IPA which was a West Coast style with big hoppy and fruity flavors. Our waitress was so sweet and very attentive. The inside of the restaurant is very kitschy and cute. They have a dog-friendly patio, but it was raining, so he stayed in the camper tonight and took a nap to recover from hiking. But in sunny weather, the patio looks so relaxing to sit in. Can't wait to come back.

I have been tasting fish and chips around the Pacific Northwest for a few years as part of a project to find the best of the best. Way back in the late 1990's is I had some salmon fish and chips at a place called the Malahat Mountain Inn near Victoria, British Columbia, that knocked my socks off. That place is sadly no longer with us, but I have been trying to find some that rise to that standard. A few notable entries in the best of list: Trillium Cafe in Hood River: They used to have dreamy albacore tuna fish and chips. Their new version is still very good, but the albacore was slightly better. I still recommend them. The Salt Hotel and Pub in Ilwaco, Washington: Tender, flaky, and crispy with killer fries. Gracie's Sea Hag in Depoe Bay, Oregon: A little more pedestrian, but still yummy. My favorite used to be the Rose and Thistle in Portland, but new ownership and a different recipe dethroned them as the kings of the craft. Enter Barrel Mountain Brewing in Battle Ground, Washington, with its woodsmoke tinged dining room, and friendly staff. Barrel Mountain Brewing takes fish and chips to a higher level than I've tasted since Malahat Mountain. They use steelhead trout, which is like salmon, but milder. The batter was crispy, not doughy, and with no oil flavor. It stayed crispy through the meal, which is very important. The fish was perfectly cooked, tender and flaky. While the steelhead is slightly less flavorful than salmon, they were not afraid to let is taste like fish. There is nothing worse than fish and chips that have no fish flavor. The tartar sauce was savory and herbal, not cloying and sweet. I did not have to doctor it with lemon, salt and pepper like at some places. I've had excellent fish ruined by a sugary tartar sauce. The coleslaw was not too sweet. It had an unusual flavor, but not in a bad way. I liked it, but it was the weak part of the meal. The fries were thin and crispy with lots of crunchy bits to savor. They pass the salt test (needing only salt as a flavoring, even as they cool down). Many fries get soggy, need ketchup to mask diminishing flavor. I added nothing that did not come on the plate, not even salt. That's a first. The foundations of my fish and chips edifice have been shaken. A new order has emerged. These were the best I've had. Give them a try. Make a pilgrimage if you have to.

Love the food here. It's amazing. The service is great and the ambiance is fun and rustic.

Honestly I was hesitant to try this place. It's small it's quaint but the food outshined all my thoughts and expectations. We tried the bacon cheese burger and the prairie burger. We also had the chili pineapple wings and a beer flight. It was $67 before tip but honestly the quality made it so worth it. The wings were perfection. Coated in sauce but still crispy. The heat level was great and the pineapple really added to it. Also they were some of the meatiest wings I've had. The burgers were cooked perfectly with actually crispy bacon!? Amazing! Their house kettle chips are great too. My dude got the salad and it was fantastic - I'd eat an entree size in a heartbeat. It's small, it's cute, make sure to get their at a decent time as tables fill up fast. Highly recommend!!!

I've been here twice and both times the service was wonderful, everything I tasted was delicious, prices were as expected or on the lower side for how great their food is. I love the decor it's very homey, quirky artistic and interesting. My first trip around I had a beet salad that I think may not be on the menu currently, it was delicious as a main dish on its own. Kung pow wings were quite good. This last trip I had a delicious cranberry cider, watermelon salad, and a Cajun Alfredo pasta with shrimp and andouille sausage that was big enough to serve two adults. We didn't have room to eat our buffalo wings which we brought home for a snack. My sweetheart enjoyed his IPA. I can't wait to go back, already planning a girlfriend afternoon with a possible hike followed by food and drink at Barrel Mountain read more

Great service, drool inducing food, even good beer (and I don't like beer). Classic lager is about perfect for the beer shy, not too stout and not too bitter. Ordered Brewery Steak Bites, the Steelhead Fish and Chips, the Daybreak burger, the Mayor Dutch burger, and both burgers on sour dough (I have full blown celiac, but I'm a lucky celiac who can eat sour dough. A lot of us can.) Every dish is worth every penny. And the Steelhead was the first pink flesh fish I've ever ENJOYED. Thank you Yelp. I had a great meal at BMB. I had a salad and I had the garlic new potatoes. The food here was delicious. But the best part about this restaurant was the good vibes of the staff and locales. I had some good conversation over some good beer. I'll definitely be back for some more good food and good people. read more

Do not take children to this restaurant. I took my two granddaughters there yesterday and was so ripped off. The girls always want mac and cheese when I take them out. So we didn't look at the kids menu. When we ordered, the waiter said, "do they want fries or chips?" They said fries and then asked for a kid's cup of rootbeer. When I got the bill, I was shocked. The mac and cheese kids meal was $8. The side of fries was $2.50. And the small plastic cup of rootbeer was $4. So it cost $14.50 for each of my granddaughters to eat a few bites of mac and cheese and a few fries and drink a cup of soda. Never in my life have I felt so ripped off. Also, be warned, if you order an adult hamburger, you will pay extra for the fries. read more

Staff were rude from the moment we walked in..... All I can say is if you don't want to be there, please just go home and don't ruin our night out. For $50. plus tip, we received both rude & bad service. 2-over cooked & dry burgers, CRUNCHY french fries (not crisp) 1-cider & 1-coke. Definitely not worth $50 plus! We really were looking forward to trying this place. Such a disappointment. We won't be back. read more

What a great place in Battle Ground. The beers and cider on tap are fantastic, the decor is super cool and the FOOD! Holy Moly! So amaze-balls. Between the four of us we shared everything and it was all super good. The wings are the best ... And award winning. The Stinky fries were the best with frizzled onions, roasted garlic and blue cheese. The greatest combination. The steak bites were succulent. And then there was the roasted beet salad. All I can say is "Order It!" You will love this place. read more

Ugh- service used to be stellar here. Seems like they've hired new help (maybe from the city) that doesn't treat the clients the same as core staff. New hire female (if I'm allowed to say that nowadays) really doesn't give a darn if you're waiting 20 minutes for a beer refresh. And just to get a to-go box, I had to walk inside to get my own. Much better just a few months ago- Covid or no Covid. Hope they fix it as it's one of our favorite spots. Will update after next visit...if improved. read more

Antiquing in Battleground and walked by this place... ohhh the aroma was amazing! Since it was lunch time anyway decided to pop in and give It a try. Who woulda thunk? Damn good food!! The atmosphere is laid back and fun! Service was excellent!! One of those places where you study the walls just to see all the random stuff.. Got the beer sampler.. good beer as well. Prices are a little high but they have a very unique menu selection! Great for a date night or lunch while adventuring. Will definitely go back next time we are in Washington! read more

Not often you come to a place that has a plain entrance and big surprises inside. We had a large group of 16 and they accommodated us outside. It was a beautiful sunny day and the beer selection was awesome and food even better! One person in our group said it was "the best BLT I've every had!" I ordered the Daybreak Burger, pure awesomeness with house smoked bacon, avocado and a Muenster cheese. Lots of amazing comments about the salads and service! Tommy helped us, just a super nice guy and we'll be back!! read more

This place is DELICIOUS! The majority of the menu is made in house from the fries, to the pickles, tomato jam, and smoked blue cheese. The steelhead fish and chips is unbelievably yummy and fresh. The beer didn't disappoint either, No Bad Days IPA lived up to its name. The staff is super friendly, incredibly courteous, and helpful. Can't wait to go back! read more

We made a bit of a detour here on our way home to Portland after doing the Ape Caves. It was worth the drive! Great burgers, great service, perfect back patio area for enjoying a cold beer post-hike! We will definitely be back! read more

This place is terrible. Please avoid it. j/k - this is a WONDERFUL spot, just don't want everyone to know it, and swamp the place! Been here several times in the last year or so. Friendly, helpful staff. The food is great - the crispiest wings I've ever had, delicious, huge salads, and great burgers. Their beer, of course, is also delicious. Very dog friendly, and taking CoViD precautions seriously. Wonderful beer garden (kid friendly) and nice ambience inside. This place is worth going out of your way for, let alone a stop-off on your way to/from the bckcounty. read more

Eat here all the time 4-5 stars normally. Not a good night normally a great place and staff are always great. But burger here tonight was too raw. Server did not ask how we wanted burger cooked so figured it would be medium or somewhat middle of spectrum. The server offered to get me another one but after bitting into this was not too hungry, still charged for it. Too bad it was not up to their normal standard. Mentioned yelp review and saved price of beer, beer was good didn't have an issue with paying for the beer( try the no bad days IPA) Normally better food but the crew were great as always, just one off. read more

From first impressions I expected decent beer but I'll be damned they have a great menu of food here too! We were brought here by family that we were visiting in Vancouver, WA. They told us we couldn't go wrong with any beer or meal we ordered and they were right! Wings, mac and cheese, and roasted beet medley were all winners. They had some great IPA's that definitely hit the spot. There's a nice little patio in the back that I highly recommend if the weather's right. read more

Great find after a lovely hike at Tarbell Trail. My hiking mates and I (boy and his dog) wanted to miss rush hour traffic en route back to Portland. The decision to stop for a beer and food was not a difficult one to come by, the challenge was finding a good spot in an area we are not familiar and finding one that allows dogs. After a search for dog friendly restaurants a nice list came up. I did the honors of researching the food menu -- Barrel Mountain was the winner. We were very impressed with the food, beer selection, environment and service. It was all around a very welcoming and memorable experience. We got a session and a lager and sampled the Imperial IPA. All three were fantastic! I liked the session the best, but the other two were delicious. Our wonder dog companion was offered a big bowl of water, which she gave 5 gold paws to. Food: fish tacos for my companion. I was offered a bite, but declined, not because they did not look amazing, but rather, because he did not have much left and I would have felt bad finishing off his dinner. I settled on a fresh salad that consisted of a medley of greens, sliced strawberries, blue berries, just the right amount of thinly sliced red onion and my favorite, marcona almonds! I ordered it with chicken, which was cooked to perfection. Overall Barrel Mountain offers a fun, laid back patio with a comfortable and relaxed environment to enjoy good company, excellent food and drink. Don't forget to include your four legged friend! We will be back. We did walk through the restaurant, it felt equally as inviting as the patio. A definite for cooler/wet days. read more

Been vegetarian my entire life and I think in 50 years thats only happened one other time. The mistake was not only nasty but embarrassing. The waiter felt bad but really just respecting & understanding that not everyone wants to eat dairy much less dead animals is something that you as a biz need to work on. Really sucks you guys got to this point, we would be regulars if things were different.

Off the charts!, FULL REVIEW of all Services: If anyone who enjoys hiking, river fishing, or just a general outdoor-focused vacation wants a good, simple getaway with their spouse/loved one, check out the Backwoods brand in Carson, Washington (just north-northeast of Bridge of the Gods/Cascades Locks). Backwoods Cabins offers a really great overnight stay option. The 8 cabins there are all basic "two-room" designs (bedroom and attached bathroom, and a living room / mini-kitchen room). The cabins sport king-sized beds, a gas fireplace and outdoor fire, a mini kitchen with refrigerator/freezer and microwave (no stove/range). I think 3 of the 8 cabins welcome dogs. The Backwoods brand also owns Backwoods Brewery, which is just across the road from the cabin property. They have great microbrew beers (from light lagers to GREAT stouts!). The brewery also has a smokehouse, with fantastic smoked brisket, pulled pork, and house-made sausage/brats. But even better, the Backwoods Brewery offers the BEST PIZZA I've had in decades. The pizza dough is a perfect balance of flavor and texture. It's not too thin and not too thick. The crust is chewy in the middle, with a great crusty edge and base. The red sauce (they also have a white sauce we didn't try) is thick and rich, with a few tomato chunks. It's got a slight spicy bite with a sweet finish. They also have some unique house pizzas. We tried the Whistle Punk - Red sauce, bacon, smoked brisket, peppadew peppers, sweet onions, fresh mozzarella rounds - and the Pepperoni Express - Red sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, tomatoes, banana peppers, smoked mozzarella. Both were outstanding. I'd go so far as to say both Donna and I deemed these the best pizzas we've had in 35+ years (noting that our first date was at a pizza joint in Fife we both thought was the best-ever pizza). If you stay in the Backwoods Cabins, you get two coupons for free drinks at the brewery (beer/wine/cider/cocktails) as well as an assortment of snacks for your hiking adventures, and a full S'mores kit to use over the gas fire pit. Tried the Tree Hugger 10" GF pizza and it was genuinely tasty. The crust? So good. The staff? Kind. The price? About $20, which felt a little "ouch," but the pizza did not, and that's what matters. My one issue, which is no big deal really, is their up-charge for ordering a kid's burger for someone other than a kid... My mother is 89 years old, she can't put away a large burger, she wants something small. So, if we're pricing the burger based on its size, why does it matter who's eating it? ‍ To charge extra seems dishonest... I've been visiting here a dozen times a year for four decades. There are a few eateries here. Many seem to come and go although there are a couple that have survived the test of time. RM38 is a newcomer... used to be in a small building with VERY limited hours. I gather their main biz was brewing craft beer for a very small clientele of businesses and the "saloon" was mostly a side hustle to help pay the rent. So I see they moved into new digs down at the marina. I won't take off any stars for the following since this seems to be their new business model: Offering uber-expensive, skimpy portions of not especially tasty food targeted to yuppies who have more money than brains. Suffice to say that you won't see many Bikers hanging out here. The good: Their patio has a nice river view and a pleasant breeze. Sitting out there enjoying a cold one on a hot Summer day is very pleasant. And during the Fall too so long as it's not raining. People complain about the lack of parking which is not an issue when you show up on a motorcycle. But there are LOTS of places to park although you may have to walk a few yards... you poor darlings. Staff is less than amazing but they are always courteous towards me. I suppose I am no more their dream customer than they are my dream hangout. But Bikers tend to be very generous tippers so they might want to keep that in mind. There's one long-established watering hole in Cathlamet but it's a dark, indoor venue. I like it there and it's more of a dive bar with very good food. The thing about Cathlamet is that if you are just an occasional visitor you have many options of where to stop for a meal and/or drink and never get bored. There's also a few good places at the other end of the ferry ride in Westport, Oregon. Hard to say how long RM38 will stay in business. I'm actually surprised that they lasted in their original location for so long considering that they were only open for a few hours during the weekend. It would be great if they quit pretending to be an upscale eatery and instead focused on providing a good value, tasty, filling meal for the money. Again, no minus stars for that but until new management comes along and makes some changes it will just be a pint or two for me and i'm on my way. Of course as always YMMV.

Met my sisters in BG at Barrell Mountain Brewing. There were app steak bites with roasted garlic & mushrooms...yum. i had the Beet Salad with Candied Hazelnuts & Balsamic Reduction w/Micro Greens & Crumbles of Bleu Cheese. I also had 2 Full Size AMAZING Blackened Steelhead Salmon Tacos from Happy Hour menu. Sisters had Steelhead Fish & Chips, home shoestring fries, a Daybreak Burger about 6 inches high, homemade pickle spears, and Stinky Rose Frites (Homemade Shoestring Fries, w/garlic, Bleu Cheese crumbles, and Rosemary. Service was OUTSTANDING!! Such a funky interior theme with multiple kinds of retro seating options. Servers worked well as a team & individuals. Ice Cold beverages,quick service & a scoop of salted-caramel or expresso hard ice cream to boot. I absolutely love Barrel Mountain Brewing! The vibe is super relaxed, and every time I go, I feel like I'm hanging out with friends. Their beers are amazing--I've tried a few different ones and they never disappoint. My favorite has to be their IPA, but honestly, everything I've had there has been top-notch. This fun pub significantly upped the "cool factor" of Old Town with its decor, vibe, and food. They brew their own beer right on site, the staff are fun and friendly, and they have a rustic outdoor patio great for a nice summer evening. I love that recycled materials were used and how the rural/farm/forest furnishings provide a barn or lodge feel. There are not a whole lot of vegetarian or options for veggie-lovers, but the menu is creative, fresh, and a great addition to the town. read more

I have been out here several times now. Its a fun relaxed atmosphere and the staff seem to enjoy working here. The beer is always great and they have enough variety to please everyone. The food is the big surprise for a brewery. The steelhead fish and chips is a must try. Also plenty of other great options and keep an eye out cause the menu changes a few times a year. This place is such a fabulous addition to Battle Ground! We lacked a bohemian, artsy, funky, comfy hang out until now. The pub food suits the vibe, although personally I would like to see a few more veggie dishes, but none the less, I enjoy the place. They brew their own beer, have kombucha on tap, offer an outdoor patio, and the staff is friendly. I am delighted to have this place in the neighborhood. read more

I am giving 5 stars, even though I ususally reseve that super special food that is organic and my idea of perfection. Was IS perfectionn for me is the comfortable rustic atmosphere that I really enjoy. They get pretty busy around the dinner hour, so we typically go early, or hold off for a late dinner to avoid having to wait for a table. read more

Took the wife to BMB last Friday to celebrate a job promotion. Super busy Friday night which is never a prob. Order our favorite IPA's and waited for a table to open. I love the rustic bohemian decor, and while I would prefer a few more vegetable-rich healthy options on the menu, I always find something satisfying and unique. The staff are very friendly and obviously hard working, and I would recommend this place highly, whether for a quick bite and a beer, or to linger with friends. read more

Love this restaurant. We get is once a month and the food is always nice. The to go process is a bit off, nobody ever knows if the food is ready or where it's at, but if you keep asking, they will bring it to you lol. Otherwise, it is truly delicious and it's worth the wait. read more

Menu offers some non standard pub fare. Food is usually very good. Seating is uncomfortable. Right in town, so parking may be a little bit of a walk. We do recommend it for its slightly more adventurous pub fare. read more
