I had to bring the car back 6-7 times before it was even somewhat fixed. Not long after, the car broke down on the highway and had to be towed to their shop. I was without a vehicle for over a week. When I finally got it back, the very next day the car was hesitating to start and warning lights were coming on again. I returned it once more, and they said they replaced a hose. Two weeks later -- the check engine light came on again. When I told Carla that I would not continue making payments until the car was properly fixed, she became upset instead of trying to help. I asked if we could work something out to get me into a different vehicle, and I was told, "This would happen to any of the cars on our lot." That response alone says everything. Today I went to the dealership just to retrieve some personal belongings from my car and saw "REPO" written on the side. This was shocking, as I personally drove the car there, it was never repossessed, and I was never notified of anything related to a repo. When I started having problems with the car I was told "this never happened," This dealership has been dishonest, unprofessional, and dismissive throughout this entire ordeal. Started out trusting DFW Universal Auto's words. Did they miss or mislead us?  Is this a "typical" used car salesman story? My 17yo daughter saved most of her earnings for almost 2 years to buy her first car... Ash assured this car had no known problems, and was in excellent condition. Advertised upgraded radio, no accidents, new timing belt, water pump, and changed oil.  A/c was supposedly ice cold. Promised new set of car mats. Drove car around the block about 10-15 mph - SEEMED ok, BUT later discovered... A/c wasn't working well (Ash said it was the "Dallas heat"). I'd left a very nice review in the office, before noticing all the deception or oversights above, and below. I am changing my review to reflect concerns... AFTER PURCHASE discovery... no working 12v outlets. Ash told me to keep radio faceplate off, because "it drains the battery."  No floor mats as promised - reminded 3 times. This "fully detailed" car had a pen in the trunk, a spare unfastened, missing jack & Luh wrench, credit card on floor from a previous owner, and a stain in the driver's seat. Had to ask twice for jack. Tolerated these little things as they seemed minor enough to fix later. AFTER Driving on highway. Right rear axle shudders - not noticed going around the block or on bumpy streets. They missed this after how much time? The a/c kept failing, regardless of outside temps - missed this too? The "upgraded" radio was unusable because no antennae and missing CD changer.  They missed that? Upon arriving home, found A/C cabin filter was full of leaves, dirt, pollen; filter cover was missing so, about 1/3 of intake air flooded out before reaching the coils. They missed this? Next day, my daughter noticed tint missing on front passenger window; door also had a chrome ext handle -others are black. Looking more closely, passenger side of the car had been repainted. Later that day, my son's butt was wet from the right rear seat... wonder where the water came from? In a later message, they indicated "replaced door panels" - this was not disclosed prior to sale - why replaced. Hmm, wondering if the noise, water leak, new door panels, repainting, new door is related to an accident that DFW either was oblivious to, or did not disclose? Any after sale customer service? Not that we can tell. We hoped errors would be owned & corrected, but instead our findings (shared with both Ash and Elizabeth) were dismissed; responded to us, we "rely on a lot of public data such as Carfax" for a car's condition and value. So, they diffuse responsibility to what's reported to Carfax - they don't look? Scary thought. Earned our 2 stars instead of one, for the before-sale kindness and cleaning of my daughter's first car, as well as decent execution of completing paperwork.

Buyer Beware -- My Experience with HCC Specialty Cars…read more In December 2024, I agreed to buy a 1986 Porsche 930 from HCC Specialty Cars. I flew down on December 8th to inspect the car. When I arrived, I was told they had just pulled it out -- but the engine was already warm, which seemed odd. We went for a drive, and I was told the car had been serviced and came with a binder showing about $140,000 in documented work over its lifetime. During the test drive, I noticed a few small issues. I asked for them to be fixed before delivery, and they assured me they would take care of everything. None of those things were addressed. Later, Patrick (the owner) told me he was disappointed in his team and said he had personally inspected the car though what that inspection involved is still unclear. One thing that blows me away is him saying that he had the car serviced and the oil filter was 12 years old when we got it serviced. 12 years old! The car was delivered to me on December 23rd. The delivery company had trouble getting it started. A few days later, I let HCC know the car wasn't running right. the battery kept dying, and the idle would fluctuate so badly at night that the car nearly stalled. I brought it to Patrick Motorsports, one of the most respected Porsche shops in the country. They replaced the battery and advised me to drive it briefly, but more issues came up almost immediately. The car felt unreliable, and I was constantly worried it would break down. I contacted Patrick again, and we both agreed it needed a full evaluation and repair. I did end up spending over $70,000 to make this car right. I did not expect Patrick to reimburse me this amount but I did expect him to make it right. He never did nor has he attempted to. As the list of issues grew, Patrick started becoming harder to reach. He told me he was overwhelmed and dealing with a lot of other cars. I encouraged him multiple times to speak directly with Kyle at Patrick Motorsports, who could explain exactly what they found. Patrick made one call to Kyle, but never returned any of the three calls Kyle made back to him. Once I mentioned I was planning to go public with my complaints, Patrick said he might offer some kind of financial concession. Then he told me he should perhaps just save it for legal fees. At the end of the day, this comes down to character. Patrick talks a good game, seems sincere, and has a great story but in my experience, he didn't follow through on anything that mattered. He didn't stand behind the car, didn't communicate honestly, and didn't make things right. If you're thinking about buying from HCC Specialty Cars, don't take anyone's word for it. get the car independently inspected before you commit. I didn't, and it cost me.

Given this goal, finding peak NA Porsches has been a challenge. I have had great luck with purchasing Porsche CPOs but finding my final dream NA bucket list car proved difficult. I therefore decided to expand my search to boutique, exotic dealerships. This is when we came across HCC Specialty Cars in Dallas. Since my better half and I both needed to agree on this final dream car we were looking to share, HCC had one that we were able to compromise on and agree on. The dealer's owner Patrick was highly responsive to all our various questions. Since we weren't prepared to fly out to Texas, we were essentially relying completely on photos, videos, CarFax and the word of Patrick. Since he was a real straight shooter, we felt satisfied with the car and decided to move forward. We put in an offer that was accepted. After that, Patrick assisted with getting some additonal work done on the car before assisting with making arrangements to ship the car out from TX. After the car shipping company delivered the car, there were some unexpected hiccups with the car. Thankfully nothing mechanical...just annoying items that pestered the perfectionist sides of my wife and I. We immediately reached out to Patrick and he did do his best to try to problem solve and work through the issues. In the end, I did have to also enlist the help of my trusty Porsche contact at my local dealership. Long story short, everything all worked out in the end which is what ultimately matters. Overall, given the selection of great NA classics in HCC's inventory and what a professional, standup guy the owner Patrick is, HCC is highly recommended as far as boutique dealerships go!
