Barron Park Shell. Look at the price of gas!! And, that probably wasn't the least expensive station at the time either. That's a Sable:-)

I was buying a used car and wanted a shop to give it the once over to try to avoid the lemon purchase. Problem was that the seller was very busy, we had a hard time scheduling a meeting and my options for shops was slim. Most shops close at 5pm and I couldn't meet the seller until 4:30pm. I called Barron Park Shell on the recommendation of another Palo Alto Shop after he couldn't meet me at 4:45pm. David agreed and said to bring the car buy. He didn't promise a full car inspection that usually costs $100 and takes 1-2.5+hours. But, we did meet and looked under the hood, checked the basics and then we talked about it. We spent several minutes (me tailing him on every move) looking at the car and then another 15 minutes talking about the car, who owned it, where they serviced it, etc. It was obvious, David pointed out immediately it had Toyota filters (oil and air) and that it was dealer serviced. Just as the seller said. David probably took 30 minutes to look at the car and then talk over the purchase. In the end, he didn't charge me anything and he stayed past 5pm to look at the car. I have never taken my car there before, he didn't know me, but he took time to look at the car, walk through it. I couldn't ask for more in that situation and was very happy with the help given. Recommended.

    Tran's Auto Repair

Tran's Auto Repair made its way onto my radar due to all of its great reviews, which I can attest…read moreare quite true -- I can't imagine finding a better auto repair shop in the area (without sacrificing quality and professionalism). I admittedly ended up only swinging by for a general check-up on my car after driving myself across the state. They were clear about how long it was going to take them to get to my car (that I brought by without an appointment), and they actually got around to completing the task before the estimated time. They were really thorough with identifying issues, and rather than try to sell themselves, they preemptively asserted that I could take my car elsewhere if I felt more comfortable with that; they still wanted to show me exactly what/where the issue was so that I could share that with whomever I would ultimately decide to do business with. I really appreciated how genuine and honest they were without making me feel guilted into having them work on my car. I'm not going to sugarcoat that the quote was a bit steep, but I trust that they were going to be the most diligent and detail-oriented people for the job. Their expertise is impressive, and I'm glad to know that I can always come here if I have car troubles again. Wholly recommend for character alone!

Went in for an oil change at the local Honda dealership and they recommended I change the steering rack on my car. The estimate was $4k+. Called several different shops to get quotes. Saw Tran's Auto Repair and read through some reviews and thought I'd give it a shot. Not only did Sy take his time to check on an estimate for me--which was very reasonable for the work required to replace a steering rack--he also suggested I bring the car in to double check to see whether I actually need the replacement. I was able to take the car in a few days later and after checking, turns out the rack was seeping just a bit of fluid, but not a major leak (what seems common for a car with 150k miles). Recommended we don't change it now and continue to check on it every oil change until it becomes an actual leak (if that ever happens). That recommendation checks out with how the car drives. Before my visit to the dealership I didn't notice any major issues with the steering--the car seemed to still have firm, controlled steering even at highway speeds. Mind you, I understand the business nature of auto shops. It is advantageous to recommend and do work on vehicles. But the fact that Tran's recommended not to get the steering rack replaced right now should speak to how honest they are with their customers (even a new one). I'll be back, and would highly recommend this place to anyone in need of service/repairs.

I originally found the shop randomly on Yelp, and I've been extremely happy with their service ever since. They are honest, knowledgeable, and thorough. I especially appreciate that Arif takes the time to explain everything in detail. They originally estimated about $900 to repair my air conditioning, but after 24 hours and inspecting the car more carefully, they found a much simpler fix and the final cost was only $300. They even returned the unnecessary parts they had purchased so I wouldn't be charged for them. I'm very happy to support this respectable local business.

It's not always easy to find a mechanic you can truly trust, but based on my experience, this is a shop I would feel comfortable coming back to and recommending to my family and friends. Professional, knowledgeable, honest, and respectful. I hope this review helps others who are looking for a trustworthy mechanic.
