Made another stop into Barrow Bookstore, one of my favorite bookstores of all time today. Whenever I stop by Concord, I drop in. As usual, I found an outstanding selection of amazing books at great prices. Where else can you find beautiful hardcover books on the fall of Constantinople, Napoleon, and Led Zeppelin, accompanied by peaceful music, courteous staff, and a beautiful day? This was one of our favorite places that we visited while at Concord. We were looking for a more antique copy of little women after visiting Louisa May Alcott's Orchard house, and this adorable bookstore tucked away from the Main Street DEFINITELY did NOT disappoint! We visited Barrow on a chilly morning and Jaime offered us a cup of hot tea to sip on while we browsed which immediately gave the experience an authentically quaint feeling! Although the store is not large they carried a variety of books ranging from historical ( American history biographies) to classics like Jane Austen and Elizabeth Brontë, to delightful children's books! Would HIGHLY recommend stopping in here if you love books and are in the area, they were also able to ship the books we'd bought to our home which was SUPER helpful! read more

"Magical" truly is the best word to describe this place. From the charming exterior to the cozy nooks inside, everything feels like a treasure waiting to be discovered. The amazing staff are not only incredibly knowledgeable about the region but also about books! They are passionate readers, fantastic guides, and creative teachers on topics ranging from history and fiction to authors' biographies--whatever you need and even whatever you don't yet know you need, but do. The variety of books is astounding. As you wind your way through the labyrinthine shelves, you'll always stumble upon something unexpected, fresh, and enlightening. Barrow Book Store started an online store and delivery service during COVID19 and I have to say it is excellent. They seem to be adding new titles often and the curated selection is great for gift giving. I found a rare Sylvia Townsend Warner book of short stories for myself, and a lot of options for a belated father's day package. The prices are very affordable and the conditions of the books are accurate--often brand new looking (or close-to) books for half the price or less than the same versions online. Normally I'd go to the store but things have been shut down and I haven't been going out much. I made an order this week and it arrived the NEXT DAY, beautifully packaged in brown paper and ribbon. It was such a nice surprise! I believe the store itself is opened in a limited capacity now, too. I've been there a couple times in person (before the shutdown) and it was always a lovely place to get books on local authors and browse for interesting finds. read more

I love Barrow Book Store. I've found quite a few unusual suprises in there with hard to find or out of print books. My favorite thing to do in town other that walk around and visit Nero, is to pop into here and just see what I can find. Such a great book seller! read more

I love bookstores, doesn't matter if they are used books or new. This store had a friendly staff. Sections were clearly defined. Great selection, I bought 4 books and from a wide variety of genres. Prices are great. Comfortable store. Got there and a set of parents with two girls were there and the oldest child didn't want to leave. It was a nice family oriented place. I'll return. Parking is in the rear of building easy access to the center of town. read more

This is a lovely used book store that has lots of books about Concord & Lexington for history buffs. The staff is friendly & knowledgeable. If they don't carry what you are looking for they are happy to give you suggestions on other places. There is a small parking lot near the shop, otherwise there is lots of street parking in downtown Concord. read more

Both bookshops on Concord's main street are terrific, and together they make a perfect morning for browsing and padding out your personal library. Barrow Book Store especially has a lovely history (the name should give you a clue to one aspect, you can ask for yourself about their Alcott connection) and ongoing story as they strive for stocking books of local interest and choice selections from acquired collections. When I was there, I was treated like a cherished visitor, hailed as I came through the door, left alone to browse but reminded of the "rare" offerings on the counter, given a present for being new in town as I checked out, and offered "insider tips" about living locally. Bookshops like this should be doted upon. I hope you have at least one like it near you. read more

This bookstore is such a gem. I love stopping there when I'm in Concord. It's about 100 yards down a driveway from the Main Street, but that just makes is nice and peaceful. The selection is superb and the prices are great. I really know books and this place is great. read more

Great find in Concord. Hidden away but worth it. I could have spent hours in there if I had been feeling better. The woman running it was not only knowledgeable but very kind, offering me ginger ale to make me feel better. She impressed my husband talking about her personal collection of Loebs. Selection of used books, signed editions, etc for even the fussiest bookworms. Skip the larger stores and visit this one. read more

Full disclosure: I've spent many happy hours in this store and really love it. There aren't many book stores left esp. second hand bookstores so for me it's a real treasure. If you're a fan of Concord, Concord writers or funky second hand bookstores in general, it's a "must see" on the Concord list. Barrow Book store and Brister Hill (google to find a crowd free walking space, even in high season! dogs allowed) are Concord's two best kept secrets. The new owner is young and really sweet and an avid reader and book fan (Freddy The Pig, Louisa May) and she has really brought new life to the place! read more
