Barrow graciously agreed to hold a gun for me until I could get down there on Saturday, March 8. I called March 5 to confirm. The disgusting lady who answered the phone curtly informed me that I hadn't come to get the gun, they restocked it, and hung up on me. Barrows is actually a hardware and automotive store but they have a huge gun shop nicely spaced in the same location. It is the only place we recommend for firearms. The Southern gentleman that owns the place, he's a super guy, and I believe is in his 90s. They have just about everything you need for hunting game, target shooting or just for protection. You would never know that this little hardware store in Butler Georgia would have such a wonderful gun and ammo supply. We love it and we always stop by going in that direction or just take a little trip to the store. Check it out. read more

What can I say. If you need to pick up parts to do a tune up on your car, or buy Browning Sporting shotgun, this is your best place to get them. They had the best selection of sporting guns I've found and was able to get my 20 gauge there when no one else had one. They are also a NAPA dealer. It's a shame Barrow Guns isn't closer to Atlanta. The selection and pricing would be a welcome and competitive addition to Atlanta area gun shops. 1st star -- shake your head funny location This place cracks me up. Google Maps lists it as an automotive shop. From the front, it's a hardware shop, complete with lawn mowers out front. Inside, it's a NAPA auto parts shop and car repair joint. Off to the side of these things, it's a hunting oriented gun shop whose entrance is surrounded by bagged game (e.g. deer, bear, etc.). 2nd star -- firearm selection. GA Firing Line (previously Nick's Gun Range, in Marietta), from my previous experience, has one of the best and most diverse selection of handguns available in Atlanta. That said, Barrow Gun Shop would give it a run for its money if it were anywhere close to Atlanta. Handguns were organized by caliber, then manufacturer, making it very easy to see the variety available in a particular caliber. Hunting rifles, shotguns and assault rifles are at the back of the shop once you make the L-turn past the 1911 handgun case. While not carrying as many Sig Sauers as I would like, this shop did have the largest selection of 1911 handguns I have ever seen, especially Kimbers. If you're desperate to own a Kimber with the current lack of inventory in Atlanta, Barrow Gun Shop might be a good bet. 3rd star -- firearm pricing. I would have to say that Barrow Gun Shop's prices were in line with the pricing at GA Firing Line. I found all the prices on the handguns to be in line with what I'd be willing to pay if I didn't want to walk in and negotiate on a gun. 4th and 5th stars -- too far from Atlanta. I went down to visit and see their selection after having found several nice auction items on GunBroker.com. The long drive (to Macon and a little more) almost demands that you be ready to make a purchase when you get there. Given their selection and pricing, however, makes the drive a helluva lot easier to sidestep in favor of a good deal. read more

It's exactly 50 miles from my house here and it's worth the ride every time. I've gotten everything from a flashlight, hex wrench set or leather work gloves to a great deal on several guns over the years. Good businesses like this one close their doors every day thanks to "I can get it cheaper on the internet". Well, that computer can't let you pick up two guns and compare them, answer your questions in a friendly, honest manner and remember your face and say "Hello!" like a real person can. Two words: super overpriced. Great selection, but not worth the price. It seems like they have not figured out that they can use the internet to be more competitive with price matching and the like because what they consider is a discount is more expensive than what another FFL sells the same model and same condition firearm. Don't let all the other negative reviews faze you: these people don't seem to understand how pricing mechanisms work. And, well, I do. So, let me break it down for you: Barrow's is the best classic gun shop I've ever seen. Tucked away in the back of a hardware store in the non-descript Butler, Georgia, Barrow's crams more firepower per square foot than any place I've ever seen. The selection is absolutely endless. The staff is knowledgeable, focused, courteous, and helpful. So, why does everyone else give a low review? Price. Sure, Barrow's has the ability to maintain some pricing inelasticity as they are the only game in town--for miles aroused. Macon, the nearest city of about 100,000 souls, has nothing that compares with Barrow. Columbus, aside from the Fort, of course, doesn't have anything for comparison. And Atlanta? Well, I don't shop for guns there as I do not want to REALLY overpay. Getting back to the complaints... Most of the other reviewers here are upset that Barrow won't "match the price" they see on the Internet. What they don't understand is the price they see is the FFL dealer price. The dealer still has to pay shipping, ordering, insurance, inventory, and overhead costs before considering his own profit. It's a wholesale vs. retail price in a regulated market. So... not comparable. It's funny that when people unsucessfully try to play in the deep end without their floaties, they usually blame the deep water rather than their own inability to swim. read more

I had been looking to trade my ruger single action 45 long colt ; non convertible ; for a convertible ;shoots acp as well , with cylinder change ; this would give me a matched set , of convertibles ; they traded me pistol for pistol ; with very small dollar amount to accompany ,my trade in i was very pleased ; the staff were very friendly . southern hospitality and attentive to my questions , I am the worlds greatest skeptic of people and found myself ;buying a 25 dollar yeti coffee mug ;with their logo on it to show my appreciation ; of them treating customers so well . a great store read more

A lot of people swear by Barrow's but I find them to be overpriced. They have a good selection and a friendly staff. They tend to be more hunting focused instead of just firearms focused so it makes us non-hunting shooters feel a bit turned off. read more

I have been buying firearms from Barrow for a couple of years now and have found their service and inventory to be great great. Driving from Fayetteville means confirming ahead of time they have my product selection in stock and the price to be charged. I have found email works well for this as will a phone call. Their pricing has always been with or under most Atlanta area retailers and competitive with internet sources. I think the combination of businesses under one roof is both unique and a bit nostalgic. Having been in the auto parts business for many years (way before computers) I appreciate the completeness of this particular business. Two hour round trip but well worth it. read more

I don't know where these other people shop and say Barrows is high priced. I have looked all over other retail stores in middle GA and no one has better deals on firearms than Barrows. I have bought guns at Barrows because I couldn't find a better price at any local store. These folks are as nice as you can find and they have a super selection of guns. The only drawback from my point of view is the selection of accessories. They have tons of ammo, but the amount of extras is lacking some. Had a very bad experience. My husband and I have bought guns and other items from Barrows in the past and always felt good about the service. But when I went back with a friend, who had also purchased a gun from them in the past. Everything was different. We got there at 5:40, when we were asked if we needed help, I said my friend was there to buy a gun and were told imediately by a guy (I guess he worked there, didn't seem to have much knowledge or maybe he just didn't care) that they would be closing shortly. We said that was okay we knew what we wanted. It was between two guns. She decided on a Colt 45 and a holster for the 38 she already had. She did ask if they could get her a different grip for her 38 and was told she would be better off getting it in Warner Robins and not driving all the way back. We thought we were finishing up the transaction and they started turning out the lights. He put the gun back in the case and walked away. We were in shock, that he just walked away from a sale of about $1,500, gun, holster and ammo. She was also considering another small gun, so it would have been more. I didn't shop, because he let me know there was not enough time to buy something for my husband for Valentine's Day. They must not work on commission. When we went out to her truck, I looked at the time it was 5:58 and everyone came out and locked the door. Guess it's a good thing Academy Sports is coming to Warner Robins. I went to BUY a gun just before Valentines Day, I was ready to buy that day. I was also going to buy a gun for my son some ammo and a holster for my 38. When a friend and I got there it was about 20 mins before closing and I knew what two guns I wanted to look at. The guy who was supposed to help us informed us they were closing soon. He had a bad attitude and guess he was upset he might be late for dinner. Anyway, I literally had the gun in my hand, had holster on the counter and they started turning off the lights, he took the gun from me put it back in the case and said we are closing. It was not even 6 yet, I have a permit to carry and it would not have taken that long to buy the gun. When we got there the first words out of our mouth was we are here to buy a gun, needless to say I did not spend my money there. I was also told to just order what I need in Warner Robins so I wouldn't have to drive back to the store. Guess they are doing so well they didnt need my $2000 that I was doing to spend. Oh, I forgot my friend was also looking for a gun for her husband which would have been another $500 or so. Anyway, I guess I'll just get what I need in Warner Robins.
